  1. Hello fellow EB'rs. Stacy and I have a small display case show going on at our local library (Trempealeau Public Library) and thought we should post a few pictures for all of you to see. The show runs the entire month of February 2010 and consists of both MOC's built by Stacy and me as well as official LEGO sets (Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, etc.). If you are in the area, be sure to stop by and check it out. We are also looking at doing a 'LEGO Community 101' program sometime this summer. More details to follow! In the meantime, check out the pictures from the display. You can also find more pictures on our Flickr Photostream. A number of these MOC's are ones we have featured before here on EB such as the LEGO NES, Eames House, Ice Palace, etc. However, a few of them are also new MOC's that have been built in the past month and we haven't actually taken pictures of them yet. Once the show is over, we will get some better pictures of the new trains and buildings up. Enjoy! -Davey
  2. I'd have to guess I spend about 1-2 hours a night (7-15 hrs/week) down in 'The Lair' on average. Some weeks it will be more (like when we are leading up to a show) and some will be less. Creations usually take me anywhere from a couple hours to many months depending on what I am building. A lot of times if I get 'builders block' I will go back and 'tweak' old MOC's to make them better. It just depends on my mood. -Davey
  3. Well done! I'm sure Gene Simmons is just itching to collect royalties on these. -Davey
  4. Welcome to the forums! Always good to see another FFOL hanging out here. -Davey
  5. Lee!!! Glad to see you could join us over here. Eurobricks is a great community with a lot of fun and open-minded members. I think you will enjoy your stay here. -Davey
  6. Looking good there Brickster! I love the design and I see the influence the illustrious Mr. Sava has had on you. You took it your own direction though and I like the boiler design and the color scheme. It goes quite well with the piece of rolling stock you built. The cow-catcher design is different, but I'm not sure I am totally sold on it. I've seen some other designs using the LEGO tubing with Minifig hands to achieve a nice wire-frame look. Well done though. I'm looking forward to seeing more. -Davey
  7. Looks great and, like the others, I didn't notice the third wheel wasn't an actual train wheel so it fits perfectly! This is a neat little shunter and looks great in 8-wide. Excellent work again and welcome to the community. -Davey
  8. Fantastic work here! I love the color scheme and the shape of the locomotive is just really eye-catching. Lots of nice SNOT work on this and I especially like the buffer design. Great work and look for this on Classic-Town.net soon. -Davey
  9. What the cat dragged in? Wasn't that a song by Poison? -Davey
  10. Glad to see you could make it. Now be a good boy and play nice. Seriously though, I think you will love it here. We have a great community that grows each day. Have fun and don't feed the walrus. (Just trust me on this one.) -Davey
  11. Glad you could finally join us Mr. Kelso. I'm sure you will find the accommodations here suitable for a man of your status. We've got a nice group here that likes to have fun and create a little mischief every now and then. I think you'll fit right in. -Davey
  12. You might want to consider adding a siding where you can have one loop, but also switch other trains on and off the mainline. This is more how a real railway works and I have found that you can run two trains on a single line for a short period of time without them crashing. I did this on my layout for Brickworld 2009 and had lots of success. I would wait for the main train to get past the siding and then release the train that was in the siding. It would take a little bit to get up to speed so the main train would accelerate away from it. Once they were both up to speed, I would let the secondary train perform one or two 'laps' around the circuit and then bring it back into the siding. Another option would be to have one train running on 9V and the other on PF on the same layout. This would allow you to individually control their speeds. This is what I have been doing on my home layout and is the approach I am taking for Brickworld 2010. There really is no 'correct' answer to your question. It all comes down to how much track you have and what you would like to achieve with your layout. Do a search on the forums and check out the Digitally Designed Track Plans thread for more ideas. Good luck! -Davey
  13. I have to respectfully disagree with Big Cam on this one. I love that you left the studs showing on the brick-built mixing drum. That drum design is pure genius! The color scheme is fantastic as well. I think my only wish would be for a little more splash of color in the cab. I'd love to see the drum color scheme lightly spill over onto the cab. Maybe just a yellow and black stripe using a couple of plates? Just my thoughts though. Again, very well done here capturing proportions and just coming up with an eye-catching design. -Dave
  14. Great little 'impulse set' there! So, the parts trolleys are carrying hands, huh? What would this factory be assembling? Cyborg Minifigs to conquer the world? Seriously though, the design of the trolleys is very innovative and the final scene where the gal has pushed the trolley over on the unsuspecting gent gave me a chuckle. I'd love to see people start 'captioning' that one. -Davey
  15. Great work on the color scheme. The yellow stripe amongst the gray and dark red really gives this MOC a striking look. Nice piece use with the wheel rims as vents. I also love that you stayed with the six-wide scale. It's tough to capture shape and detail in six-wide, but it can be done and this MOC is a great example of good six-wide design. Well played! -Davey
  16. Yeah...you and me both. Thanks a lot buddy. -Davey
  17. Hey Chris! Saw this on MOCPages and it's great to see it here as well. Aside from the fantastic humor here, the build is really well done as well. I love the fascia of the house. I know you don't fancy yourself a Town builder, but you certainly have the talent for it. I hope to see you building more Town creations and contributing to the Town forum here on EB. Great work and again, welcome to EB. -Davey
  18. I'll admit that I probably was a little harsh in my last post. Let's step back a minute... I agree that the general user-base needs to express it's concerns and needs to be heard by the powers that be. That is certainly how a community grows and evolves. Censorship is never a good thing and I am by no means advocating any kind of censorship. In fact...just the opposite. What I am getting at is that when the general community is split on an issue such as what we are discussing here, how do the Mods/Admins handle that? Do we just go around and around rehashing the same information as a community? At some point, someone has to make a decision and hopefully that decision will reflect what is best for the majority of the community. My point was that whatever decision is made, it will not please everyone. At that point, those who do not agree with the decision will have to live with the decision that has been made based on input from the community. Again, I am totally in agreement that the community needs to be heard. But at some point a decision will be made based on that input and at that time we all need to live by that decision. Sorry if I sounded a little fascist there. Not my intention at all. -Davey
  19. It's about time you got yourself over here Mr. Phipson! Glad to see you joining up with the Eurobricks community. I think you will find that this is a great community to be a part of and there are a lot of great people over here. Just watch out for the walrus...I'm still recovering. Again, glad to see you here...and feel free to eat the children. They're tasty and tender...and go well with red wine. -Davey
  20. I really think that pretty much everything that can be said has been in this thread. In the end, this Eurobricks is not a democracy. It's owned and operated by a certain group of people and they alone make the rules. If the rest of us don't like those rules, we don't have to be a part of the community. I know that's harsh, but it's the truth. Whether the Mods delete a MOC is up to their interpretation of the 'rules and terms' and we as community members need to deal with it. If that doesn't work for you, you always have the option of starting your own site. Mods/Admins make the rules. Case closed. -Davey
  21. I've highlighted this thread over on Classic-Town.net, so hopefully we'll get a few more people stopping in here to add their thoughts on Classic Town versus the newer City sets. It might be a good idea to add a poll to this thread to capture some of the opinions as well. -Davey
  22. Hey Killerrabbit and Cossierolle! Welcome to Eurobricks. It looks like we had a a lot of the same sets when we were kids. You've both got a nice collection there and the table-town is coming together nicely. I look forward to seeing how your town evolves in the coming months. Welcome to the hobby!!! -Davey
  23. I used the 1x1 round bricks with a small string threaded through them. -Davey
  24. Thanks for the bump guys! I've received a lot of positive feedback on this one over the past few months. I've done a couple of interviews for various publications regarding this MOC...though I'm not completely sure when the published articles are coming out. Maybe in the next couple of months. I'll update the thread once the articles are out. -Davey
  25. Thanks for clearing up the reason for the deletion Brickster. I would have to agree that I don't think this particular MOC was a good 'fit' for the Town forum. I think a move to the 'Other LEGO Themes' forum would have made sense. Or perhaps the time has come to create another forum for sculptures, vignettes, etc. Call it perhaps an 'Artistic LEGO MOC's' forum? I think the MOC in question could certainly fit there as it was merely artistic expression. An interesting point that I had not thought of before. I agree wholeheartedly. So true. It seems like the rash of censorship-related discussions as of late focuses on 'protecting children'. If parents really want to protect their children, they should try actually parenting...rather than letting TV and the internet raise their children. The internet is NOT a babysitter. In general, a child should be supervised using the internet until they are deemed mature enough to make their own choices regarding content. That being said, I also feel that children should not necessarily be sheltered from 'the big bad world'. Kids need to learn to make choices and understand consequences. It's a learning process that the parents should be actively involved with. Sheltering them is depriving them of the opportunity to learn and become a more capable human being. But that's a whole other discussion. -Davey
