LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Davey replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
These look sweet! I soooo need the Emo kid with the skull shirt to become my new Sig-Fig. -Dave -
Yay!!!! Hooray for Fabuland Housewives!!! Great work Hinckley...I love how the season is starting off. It's always nice to have scandal in Fabuland. I don't know what we would do without it. Great work! -Dave

I've recently become enamored with Miniland scale building and I just realized I had not posted this for my fellow Eurobricks users to see. This was my entry for the final round of the 2009 MOCOlympics over on MOCPages. The category was 'Cartoon Express' which basically meant you had to build something related to a 'retro cartoon' from pre-1995. As a kid (well...even now), I was a fan of Rainbow Brite. I don't know if it's the songs, the colors, or the cute and cuddly look of those little Sprites, but I just loved the show. As such, I decided to build the main characters from the show in Miniland scale. The MOC features the main protagonist, Rainbow Brite, along with her colorful friends, the Sprites. Behind them you can see the villains Lurky, The Dark Princess, and Murky. You can check out more photos of this MOC over on my Flickr Photostream. Comments and criticisms are appreciated. -Dave

Stacy and I go out and do this on occasion, but not as much as we used to (spending more time building with LEGO). It's a lot of fun and a great way to get out and get some exercise. A lot of the caches in our area require some pretty good hikes to find them. There is also a town 15 miles away that has about 30 caches right in town, so you can park and just walk all over to get them. It's a very popular activity here in WI/MN. -Dave

Great work and welcome to Eurobricks. I also saw these on Flickr a couple days ago and they really caught my eye. I love the color schemes for each of them and the detail work is really nice. I particularly like the green Victorian house. The use of the green flower/leaf pieces up near the roof is pure win. Great job and keep building. -Dave

Nice work! This is great for your first attempt at a Cafe Corner styled building. As others have mentioned, additional details and definition on the front would help this MOC to really stand out. But overall a great start and I the trash shed out back. Great work on the roof of the shed! -Dave

What do people say about you being a AFOL
Davey replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The hardest part is when we have to 'compete' for the rarer pieces in our collection. -Dave -
Yay! I got invited to the Eurobricks X-mas party. You made my day WhiteFang!!! -Dave

What do people say about you being a AFOL
Davey replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My wife and I are 29 and are both AFOL's. Stacy is even a LEGO Ambassador for this cycle and having her as a building buddy makes being a LEGO geek all the more fun! If co-workers or friends ask about our hobbies or what we're into, LEGO is always the first thing that gets brought up. I don't think anyone has ever said anything negative about us being into LEGO...at least not that I know of. When I tell people at work, they are always intrigued and I have a number of MOC's displayed on my file cabinets in my office. People often stop by to see 'what's new' as I rotate them often. I also get a lot of LEGO related links from co-workers whenever a LEGO story is in the news. My family loves that we are into LEGO and they always get us LEGO sets for birthday, Christmas, and any other time they can think of. They even help us setup and tear-down at the local Model Train Show we exhibit at each March. In summary, pretty much everyone that knows me knows I am a huge LEGO fan and I have had no issues with it. The people I know are generally pretty open and accepting people. Plus, I think the LEGO hobby is starting to go a little more mainstream and is being looked at as a legitimate adult hobby. -Dave -
MOC Magic "Deck-box" and Magic "Play-box"
Davey replied to Captain'Spaulding's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Great design work and a really neat idea I had never thought of. My wife and I both play a few different TCG's and this would be a great way to combine LEGO with TCG's. I really like the functionality of the card box and how the dice fit in there. Really nice work! -Dave -
This is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the color scheme and the design captures the look from the movie perfectly. Really great work here. -Dave

This looks great! You have a nice space up there and your town is looking really awesome. It also looks like you have some pretty good storage solutions going on there. -Dave

Good luck. Does K-Mart even carry that set? I don't think I have ever seen that one at my local K-Mart. -
What Ever Happened to the Train Engine Shed?
Davey replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Great article Brickster! A nice little reminder of one of the great LEGO sets of the past. I was lucky and bought two when they were out and they have been a staple on the ToT-LUG layout ever since. It never fails that at a show I will have at least a few people come up and ask where I got it and if LEGO is still producing it. On the side of new trackside structure sets, I would love to see a Roundhouse with Turntable. I think that would be a stellar set to have although I am sure it would be more AFoL oriented (good for me...bad for the younger collectors). A Mill would be cool as well especially if it came with a couple of pieces of rolling stock as well. I could see a set like that doing really well. A lot of the other structures mentioned are either things that LEGO has already made in the past or things that are very easy to MOC (such as the level crossing) and so they are of little interest to me. Plus I could see the Round house and Mill both being great 'parts packs' kinda like the modular buildings have become. -Dave -
Geez Svelte...this is a stunner!!! I love the color scheme and the plethora of details rocks my socks. Great work using SNOT to get the dark brown slopes inverted. Very original. The revolving door is a nice touch as is the pool/pond on the top floor. I think my favorite part though is the flowers that flank the main entrance. Not sure what elements those are or how you did it, but they look sharp! Great work here. You continue to amaze me. -Dave

The toughest part was managing to get to proportions correct. Since I wanted to be accurate on dimensions and proportions I had to use a few odd techniques. The hardest parts were the power and reset buttons and the front loading slot door. Aside from that it wasn't too bad of a build. :-) -Dave

Nice work Tony! It really looks great and conveys the wooden trestle vibe nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing a larger version with one of your gorgeous trains traversing it. -Dave

Hey all! I just completed a MOC that was part of Round #6 of the MOCOlympics over on MOCPages.com. The category I had to build in was called 'Atari' and the goal was to build something from classic video games (think pre-1995). I started this round about the same as I have started all the other rounds…with no idea what to build. In fact, after the categories were posted, I decided to take a few days and just think about what to build. Unfortunately, business travel came up meaning I had more days than I had originally thought to think about my idea…and subsequently less days to build. That said, I came home from my trip and put in many, many hours building what you see here…a replica Nintendo Entertainment System complete with two controllers, Tetris game cartridge, and TV. So why did I decide to build an NES? I think mainly just to see if I could. I’ve never done something I would consider ‘art’ or ‘scuplture’ in LEGO and I really wanted to give it a try and see if I could recreate something directly to scale. I must say that it was a real challenge to get the dimensions and proportions correct, but I think I managed. The console, controllers, and cartridge are all within about a 1/16 of an inch of the actual dimensions. The TV was not really based on anything and was just my own little 13” TV creation. You can check out the rest of the series over on my Flickr photostream. Hope you all enjoy it! -Dave

Stacy and I have become big boardgame fans over the past year or two. Our current collection includes the following. Arkham Horror Fury of Dracula Bohnanza Carcasonne Muchkin (various versions) Railroad Tycoon Shadows Over Camelot Ghost Stories Race for the Galaxy Pandemic Last Night on Earth Descent: Journeys Into The Dark Runebound and some others I can't think of right now... Anyway, needless to say www.boardgamegeek.com is our friend and we order a lot from www.fairplaygames.com. :-) Glad to see there are other LEGO fans who are also boardgamers. -Dave

Well Ralph, for not building a train MOC in 20 years...I think you should have considered entering the Train Tech Contest back in September. This is a fantastic MOC and I the color scheme. You have really taken your amazing grasp of the SNOT concept and applied it in ways that make me go "Huh...how did he do that?" This is a great representation of the Class 158 and would look great on a larger layout. Great work Ralph!! -Dave

I'm just swamped this month with work and I have to travel for work the next couple weeks so I probably won't be jumping on the forums much. -Dave

Congratulations on the new arrival and excellent MOC commemorating it! -Dave

Thanks for the feedback and support so far everyone! I must apologize for being somewhat absent lately in terms of posting. Work has been incredibly busy lately and I am doing a lot of traveling for work which is not leaving me as much time for other stuff as I would like. In addition, I'm doing a little contest on MOCPages which has been eating up a lot of my time as well. However, I expect to be back in the swing and blogging a lot more by mid-November! Thanks for the support everyone. I'm really enjoying being a contributor and I am glad a lot of you have liked my postings thus far. I promise I will try to be more diligent about it! Much love Eurobrickers! -Dave

Very nice work on those! I especially like the refrigeration unit details and the way you formed the roof of each car. The stickers/decals are a nice touch as well to add a bit of realism. Again, wonderful work! -Dave

Welcome to Eurobricks (although it sounds like you've been here awhile)! I see you have a lot of the same interests as my wife and I. I love the My Little Pony collection. Way cool. Glad to have you here. -Dave
