Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
xenologer replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Jee, and I thought ExoForce and Creator sets were doing extremely well, I was always impressed anyway. I for one like the Crystal King, those new rock textured triple slopes look great and I'm sure will be fun to use. I also like the use of the new rubber tipped spikes on him, and they did a good job of using varied slopes on the legs to make things look very rock-like. Well, OK he needs knee joints, that's something to mod later... -
Very Clever Now that chassis has some potential as a more normal car base with some unique wheels. How thick is it?(get more of a side view perhaps) There is precedent in the distant past for 4-wide cars with similar 1piece chassis: P.S. What supermarket did you find these in?
-
Ohwell, makes me miss the old days when cereal box promos were made of actual lego bricks indistinguishable from those in stores. At least these 'bricks' are compatible. Be interesting if someone figures out a clever way to use them...

I'd imagine that this kind of thing can be found in hobby shops for use in model displays.

I can understand how the hinge plates are working at the front. But what about the join at the back end? What geomerty allows that to fit perfectly? Or was it just trial and error.
-
I bought one, purely for the flower shirt minifig torso. Is this your cup of tea? Thats probably the only consideration you need... The red shirted delivery guy is pretty nice, since its rare to have such casual type clothing lately. The park bench is very cool, though you can probably already make one yourself. I'm sure I'll use the casette tape printed tile on the radio for building some kind of UNIVAC type computer MOC someday.

If you don't want someone to copy a design, then don't put it on the internet. If your friend posted instructions to build the model publicly then what did he expect would happen? someone was bound to make one and then do who knows what with it. If your friend didn't post instructions, then the copycat must be an imitation but not an Exact copy; in which case he isn't Really selling your friends MOC now is he? People copy ideas all the time, just live with it.

As a US Citizen I consider it arrogant of my fellow US Citizens to co-opt the the name 'American' for themselves when as you just showed there are so many other groups who live in region. I call them 'US Citizens' not 'Americans'; as this term is more descriptive of what we really are: US-United States, and not just the region.
-
Hey now, keep an eye on yourself as well. He said 'American' so don't go assuming that you in the USA are the only Americans, there's hundreds of other countries in Central and South America.

On sale at Target?? Wish it was my local store doing that... but Target is sporadic about sales specific to location... Well, of all the sets I only truly love the Claw Digger. I did end up buying all but the largest anyway though. Their action features are all very well done, but... somehow I get bored with that after a while. If the opposing Rock Monsters had more of a backstory or perhaps vehicles or bases(that can be knocked over by the miners) then playability might go a lot farther. I'm thinking a set with tons of mdstone and dkstone bricks made up as a rock cave with fall away walls for the Driller to run into and whatnot. You can kinda see them going this direction a little with the Crystal King giant rock monster in the summer sets; I hope that catches on... Story organization is definatly a minus on this theme, near as I can tell there are no webcomics or anything fun like that to inspire play. Even the character's have problems with being not well defined - depending on where you look their names are mixed up! So yeah, I'd say thats why the stuff isn't so popular (lack of MOCs and whatnot), while the vehicles have some cool design there hasn't been much effort into developing a solid 'world' for them to fit into... p.s. it does seem that ther will be a PM mini movie on Nickelodeon, so the situation on story may change in the future...a shame I don't have that channel...

When a topic grows by 4-5 pages per day of mostly useless comments; yes Honestly it is Very Hard to look backwards and find the useful posts.

He has a horizontal tailplane, its a 'T' tail, hard to see since the wing blocks it at these angles. I think the attempt at going totally studless actually hurts this model, namely the main wing. Using the bricks sideways there makes it too thick, and the cheese slopes on the leading edge don't help because their steep slope makes it look even stubbier. A thinner wing made using traditional plates would probably look nicer here, and I wouldnt worry about studs showing on a military airplane anyhow.

Dead potato bug.

This Piece: Every time I buy one of those Tiny Turbos for their parts, I end up with 4 of these ugly ugly wheels sitting around being useless. They're ugly and look like 'hot wheels' car wheels, and just don't fit in with a lego Town. I also hate that you can see the axle pin in their center.
-
Oh dear that price is definetly a dealbreaker for me. Its nice, but I can simply take parts I already have and make one just about the same. Especially with the Front End Loader being only $12.99

It balances out Mars Mission, where the humans were evil and the aliens were natives.
-
Neat set.... but I could just build one right now... Whats the yellow lightsaber blade doing?
-
Noticed Look closely at the box art photo of the Galactic Enforcer, The engines on its wingtips have minifigs sitting in them, would appear that they separate and act as mini fighters or perhaps the whole thing reconfigures in some way.

Well if you dont let yourself get into a position of being unable to pay, ie you have the money before you spend it anyway. Then whats the point of having the card? Less cards the better is how I see them.
-
I just don't see it happening. Have to keep in mind that TLC needs to make a profit from their products, one of the main points of LDD is that people buy bricks from it. Something for 'on the go' like on an iphone is much less likely to have people produce large models that they then purchase; plus TLC would need to go through the development work of the new software and all the infrastructure to let the iphone upload and purhcase orders.

Just the mouths eh?

Ever worry about tires going bad? I'd guess the rubbery parts are closer to tires than to the rubber bands.
-
Neat I think that the grey tiling pattern on the outside of the wings looks a little random though.

Photo & Video Review - LEGO Racers 8183 Track Turbo RC
xenologer replied to dieselboy m's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the great info. Now that I think about it, having a 1-piece RC chassis isn't that bad, consider Spybotics; theirs was much less reusable. I do have one more question before I decide if I want one myself though: How strong is the steering? If you push the front wheels with your finger will it fight back with decent force, or is it weak and loose? I'm just thinking that perhaps if the steering is pretty strong it may be able to handle larger diameter wheels. Or even if that steering mechanism could be used to drive more complicated technic models, perhaps attached to a lever and used in an articulated body steering. p.s. looking closely at the review link, the 'steering adjustment' on the bottom of the chassis makes me suddenly fear it is using magnetic steering, not a strong motor with rack and pinion... -
Anyone have these photos from before the folder vanished?
