Master eBay Auctions thread - post noteworthy auctions here
Wes replied to interstellar's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'm bidding on the "LEGO 6267 PIRATES GUARDS LAGOON LOCKUP MINIFIGURINES" and the other 6267 currently on ebay. -

All Lego literature (including the set names themselves) from the 2009 series refers to the new redcoats as Imperial Soldiers, and never as Imperial Guards. From the flag thing, it's obvious that the (blue) soldiers, guards, and new red soldiers are all the same faction, just evolving over time.

First Pirate set I ever encountered was a totally disassembled 6274 Caribbean Clipper. I remember liking the bluecoat fig designs very much. My first Pirate set I ever owned was an 80% complete Eldorado Fortress my mom got me at a yard sale. For years, I only had 4 bluecoats and 1 or 2 redcoats and no ship parts -- I built some pretty impressive ships out of 2x4 bricks. It wasn't until my Lego renaissance that I started my collection - I gave away my giant Lego bin and all my previous sets to my younger brother and built up a new collection that was almost all Pirates.
-
Technically, the new red coats are actually Imperial Soldiers (like the original blue coats), not Imperial Guards. Just wanted to put that out there.

What non-pirate items/mini-figs are your fav to use for MOC?
Wes replied to martinsuper's topic in LEGO Pirates
I use some HP heads, or any cool looking head that fits the Pirates theme. Bricklink is great for finding the perfect faces. -
I love the new sets. They're like the older ones, but with improvements in color palette and minifig detail. The Bounty is no BSB, but it's pretty sweet.
-
The poll question doesn't say anything about battle. Besides, going by physical endurance, the BSB still wins--it is built more study than the SES. I've learned the hard way that the SES is rather fragile compared to the BES when you need to transport it. The sterncastle is delicate and the ship has a tendency to break in two at its midsection.
-
What about setting up a wiki page where MOCers can add themselves?
-
I recommend consuming more fiber and possibly consulting a physician.

Will there ever be a newer better ship than the BSB or SES?
Wes replied to Antsa Antero's topic in LEGO Pirates
The BBB looks better when you consider this: It's not in the same size class as the BSB and SES...it's a section shorter, so it's actually on the scale of the RBR...and it blows the RBR away in design terms. -
What do we think of the MOC ships from Evil Stevie's Pirate Game
Wes replied to Mister Phes's topic in Pirate MOCs
My collection is pretty massive and I feel like I need to do more with it than just let it sit around, so I have been playing Evil Stevie's Pirate Game with my fleet for several years now. I even asked Steve Jackson if he wanted to played with me at DragonCon, but he didn't want to commit to anything. -

I'd really like to see Lego make a blue parrot with a yellow belly someday.

Remember Imperial Soldiers aren't going to be happy unless they have someplace to sleep, a ship to move around on, and a dangerous island to explore. The same for Pirates!
-
Please consider moving 15D and 56C (currently under Sloop: Bermuda Rigged) to a separate category for non-seafaring vessels. They\'re very out-of-place amongst all the \"normal,\" pirate-era ships and craft. Also, almost all of the ships in the Polacca section are actually galleons. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galleon http://images.google.com/images?q=galleon The 6286 SES is a good example of a Galleon.

Financially, it's a lot better to start collecting when items are available by retail, than having to buy them at auctions and such. LegoKing: "Should have" is correct; "should of" is a common mistake that does not make sense.
-
Er, why is there one enlisted guy leading all the officers? Or did you "reassign" the epaulets to save money, since the red ones are more expensive?
-
As for the Mermaid, it's a figurehead, and the "Kraken" is just another sea animal, not anything fantasy. I am 100% against adding fantasy elements. One of the things that makes the Pirate line great is that both "sides" are minifig people.

I suggested "Keep making new Pirates sets! I love Pirates!"

http://davidwhiteillustration.blogspot.com...omics-ahoy.html Found the artist that did those nifty comics in the new pirate set instruction books.

One thing that I think needs to be pointed out is that the SES fall apart a lot more easily. Its increased fragility is caused by its unsteady stern castle and the "gun bathtub" midsection that lacks a deck. Even the SES cargo hatches (in the forecastle) are built far more weakly than the BSB's cargo hatches.

Just bought 2 Soldier Forts yesterday, taking advantage of TRU's buy 1 get 1 @ 50% off Lego sale. They were hard to get! I had to sign up for the "email me when in stock" thing like ten times before I caught it in stock.
