Wow! This looks like a must-have for all Pirates fans! As it's been pointed out, there aren't any new minifigs. The new castaway with the Dumbledore hair is technically new, but it's only a piece different. Too bad we already know the 8 minifigs, otherwise I'd have my fingers crossed for Islanders, Conquistadors, or Blue Coats I never seen the white oyster before, but if it was new, I'm sure it would have been pointed out already. I'm still praying for a sawfish! I will probably pick this up if it becomes available in the US.

Great MOC! Nice details as well. Congrats on the 1000th post! Look at those poor Tuskens! *Spyder clears throat* Excuse me. I meant look at those sly Tuskens that have infiltrated the base and will surely destroy it.

Hi everyone! Welcome to my second Pirate review. I selected another of my favorite sets: 6236 King Kahuka. This tiny set cowered in the shadows while its larger brothers took the spotlight. I now give it the spotlight in my review of this "Islander Impulse" BASIC INFORMATION: Set Name: King Kahuka Set Number: 6236 Number of Pieces: 42 Minifigs: 1 Price: $4 Theme: Pirates Year Released: 1994 RESOURCES: Brickset Peeron Bricklink Brickshelf (Now Public) THE REVIEW: BOX: Front: The image on the front displays a lovely scene in which King Kahuka is walking from his treasure to his throne. The background appears to be sculpted and not computer generated. Back: The back of the box shows two alternate models on a map background. They really should include these alternate models in current sets. Box:: Thoughts: Nicely designed with good pictures. However, I'm surprised they didn't show anything about the only "play feature": The treasure storage under the throne. INSTRUCTIONS: Front: This is just a cropped version of the box art. Notice that no treasure chest is pictured. Front Unfolded: The instructions are just one sheet. The first 9 steps and the minifig are on the front..... Back Unfolded: And the last 7 steps are on the back. Instructions:: Thoughts: I personally don't care for one-sheet instructions, but they are fine I guess. PIECES: Pieces (unsorted): Just look at that lovely green plate Quite a bit of red and gray as well. Pieces (sorted): A very nice selection of colors in this set. Quite a variety of pieces. Pieces of interest: A decent amount of accessories as well. In fact, too many for Kahuka alone! Pieces:: Thoughts: Great selection and colors. Very satisfactory for a small set. MINIFIG: King Kahuka: Here is the minifig that comes with the set. No back printing, but a fantastic grass skirt and shell necklace. The mask is excellent as well. Everything about this minifig is superb. The Man Behind the Mask: Extraordinary face painting on the head! Might be good for a mime MOC. Minifig:: Thoughts: A great minifig with great printing. Absolutely stunning! THE BUILD: Build 1: At Step 4, the foundation is started. Build 2: At Step 8, the chest and cover are added Build 3: The spear clips and back of the chair are started in Step 12. Completed: And in 16 short steps the product is done. Build:: Thoughts: Done faster than you can say "Kahuka". Fine for a small set. COMPLETED PRODUCT: On Throne: The gray slopes on the back of the chair are an excellent detail. The Whole Set: The staff is yet another accessory for Kahuka. Throne Folded: The only "play feature" of this set is the unfolding chair and the storage space. They did a pretty good job a making a throne "playable". _______________________________________________ Now for those Totals! Design: 10/10 Excellent details and colors, everything blends well. Parts: 10/10 Good colors and selection, plenty of accessories. Nothing left out. Build: 8/10 Nice and fast, but one-sheet instructions are a bit annoying. Minifigs: 10/10 One excellent, detailed minifig here. Perfect for such a small set. Playability: 6/10 Here's the major downside: on its own, it does nothing. However, it is in a way an impulse set, and adding it to other sets makes them much more fun. Price: 10/10 $4 for 42 pieces is just superb. Throw in a splendid minifig, and this is a must have. They average at around $4.50 on Bricklink, which is still fantastic Total: 54/60 For a tiny set, this is just amazing. If you are a Pirate or Islander fan, buy this now! If not, you'll probably still enjoy it anyways. Thanks for reading! -Inconspicuous

Hi everyone! Welcome to my review of 6248 Volcano Island, straight from the Academy! I picked this as my first review in the Academy because it's one of my personal favorites. Good luck facing the perils of Volcano Island :pir-skull: _____________________________________ Dear Diary, I have been floating at sea for 10 days now. There is very little space on my raft, and my food supply is running low. I am seeking the legendary Volcano Island and the treasure hidden inside. It is a perilous journey with an even more dangerous destination. The island has menacing skull rock patterns, boiling-hot lava, and treacherous footing. I am the 14th person to attempt to retrieve the treasure. All 13 before me died trying. I am placing these diary clippings into a bottle and casting them to sea, in the event that I do not return. I think I see the island in the horizon. Farewell, -H.R. BASIC INFORMATION: Set Name: Volcano Island Set Number: 6248 Number of Pieces: 119 Minifigs: 2 Price: $12 Theme: Pirates Year Released: 1996 RESOURCES: Brickset Peeron Bricklink Brickshelf (Now Public) THE REVIEW: INSTRUCTIONS: Front: A very nice little scene pictured here. I love the background. I appears to be an actual hand-made model, not just computer generated. Front Pages: Notice that the pictures are horizontal. This makes following the instructions a little tricky, but you can always take the easy way out and flip them around Random Page: I like the "parchment" background. It has a nice contrast to the colors used in this set. Back: Shown here are 3 alternate models. It’s a shame they don’t put them on sets anymore. Folded: The instruction booklet folds neatly in half. This is the reason why mine are so crisp despite their age. Instructions:: Thoughts: Great backgrounds and colors, alternate models, and clear instructions. What more could you want? THE PIECES: Pieces (unsorted): Out come the pieces. They look pretty promising already! Pieces (sorted): Quite a few colors for a small set! Good selection too! Pieces of interest: Those black spring pieces are very nice and only appear in 7 sets! I believe this is the smallest set they come in. Pieces:: Thoughts: Nice selection and colors. The printed flag is great as well. THE MINIFIGS: Group Photo: Shown here are the two great minifigs that come with this set: The blue-coated pirate and the "classic" skeleton. Skeleton: Nothing extraordinary, but “regular” skeletons aren’t as common these days. The ball-jointed arms are a relief and the helmet is just great! Pirate: Great torso print and peg-leg but nothing uncommon from that era. You have to love that hat. Minifigs:: Thoughts: Two nice minifigs with great headgear and torso printing. Pretty decent for a small set. THE BUILD: Raft Build 1: The first part of the build is the small raft. Raft Build 2: In a few short steps the raft is completed! Raft Side: There are smooth pieces underneath so it glides on the “water”. They are positioned so the raft glides, but the barrels will turn occasionally. Raft Sword View: The other clip can hold the Pirate’s sword. He must get tired of holding that thing some time! Pirate with Raft: It must get lonely on that tiny raft at sea. A parrot or a monkey would make a nice touch to this set. Volcano Build 1: After the raft is done, the main feature of this set is started. First the foundations are set. Volcano Build 2: Then the BURP is added. In some sets it feels out of place, but in this case it blends in very naturally. You barely notice it in the finished product. Volcano Build 3: Then the launching mechanism added. Nothing too fancy but it gets the job done. Launching Mechansim: Here’s how it works. The pin hold the spring platform in place. When it’s pulled, the platform launches anything on it upwards. Volcano Build 4: The main volcano is built, and it’s time to add the skull! Skull Build: And the finished face! Isn’t it beautiful? Finished: And the main model is done! The skull on the front complements the volcano very well. Build:: Thoughts: Nice, easy build. No interesting techniques used, otherwise satisfactory. THE COMPLETED PRODUCT: With Skull Open: Huh? What’s that ugly black piece? Close-up: The one thing I don’t like about the set is the random black piece and the exposed mechanism. However, the black piece can be modded, but I see no point in having it there in the first place. Fire: Another minor problem is that the edges of the volcano aren’t attached. This shouldn't be a problem when playing, and does add a "rocky" texture to the island. Back View: Another random black piece and the pin. Having the pin off-center allows the skeleton to stand up in the middle on the smooth tile. Mechanism: Here is how the instructions picture it. Will it work? Looks like it does! Positioning the skeleton certain ways changes the direction it flies, but it mostly goes backwards. It's quite fun to make it do somersaults in the air. _______________________________________ Now for those Totals! Design: 8/10 Pretty well designed, but random colors make it less attractive. The BURP, skull, and rocks all go well together and blend perfectly. Parts: 9/10 Good selection. No stickers and good colors. The black spring pieces are rare and add a certain level of "specialness" to this set. Minifigs: 8/10 Standard figures at the time but still excellent. No battle-droid-arms on the skeleton, and great headgear. Build: 8/10 Quick and easy. No special techniques used. Playability: 7/10 Not much to do besides launch the skeleton, open the skull, and take the treasure. However, adding Soldiers wouldn't make sense. Price: 10/10 Perfectly priced! 119 pieces for $12 is good, and with 2 great minifigs is awesome. On Bricklink they get around $17 average which is still excellent. Total: 50/60 A great little set with nice functions and good minifigs. It is much better with a few mods but still stands at a solid 83%. BONUS: CUSTOM ALTERNATE MODEL. For fun I designed a custom alternate model using all the pieces. Front: My favorite part is the “ghost” face. The "Ghost Face: A close-up of the face. Notice the black eyes. Back: In the back is a cave with the skeleton and treasure. Cave: Another close-up. A little detail I added is including stalagmites. But wait! There’s more! The mouth is actually a working barrel launcher! Function revealed: I’ll be releasing picture instructions soon, so keep your eyes peeled! “Nice hat. Wanna trade?” Thanks for reading! -Inconspicuous

Welcome to my review of 7195 Ambush in Cairo, still warm from the Academy Oven! Svelte already did an excellent review, but I wanted to share my opinion as well. In fact, I dedicate this review to him because his early Indy reviews were what attracted me to Eurobricks! _________________________________________________ Crashing through the streets of Cairo, our hero Indiana Jones searches for Marion who has been captured by thugs. Dodging carts and market stalls, he finally catches sight of the abductors. But will an ominous swordsman bring his quest to an end? Decide for yourself! BASIC INFORMATION: Set Name: Ambush in Cairo Set Number: 7195 Number of Pieces: 79 Minifigs: 4 Price: 10.99 USD, 12.99 CAD, 19.99 AUD, 13.99 EUR, 9.79 GBP Theme: Indiana Jones Subtheme: Raiders of the Lost Ark Year Released: 2009 RESOURCES: Brickset Peeron Bricklink Brickshelf THE REVIEW: BOX: Front: The box art displays a scene where Indy is dueling the Swordsman and Marion is hiding from the thug. The picture shows all the pieces of the set clearly. Top Edge: The top edge shows the four minifigures that come with this set. The pictures are smaller than actual size, because of the small box. Side: The side shows a real-size Indy because it wouldn't fit on the top. Back: The back shows another scene. This one isn't too different from the front, but shows everything from a slightly different angle. Box:: Thoughts: Fine box art, plenty of details on the sides, and a decent box size. It serves its function well. Contents: Out come the contents! Only about half the box was filled. Sorted: Just instructions and two bags. No DSS or Lego Club Ads. INSTRUCTIONS: Front: Exactly the same as the box art. The fold is not necessary and makes keeping them open a pain. Front Pages: The minifig page and the start of the instructions. Yes, the first step is to put the Tommy gun in the barrel. Random Page: A random page where the cart is being built. A nice "burnt parchment" background is used throughout the booklet. Parts Inventory: The parts inventory. I was under the impression they sorted it by color though. Ad: An ad for the rest of the 2009 Indy sets. A review of one will be heading your way soon. Back: And the back. They changed one of the sets that you can enter win to the AAT. I've filled out the survey for every set ever since. Instructions:: Thoughts: Fine backgrounds and no unclear steps. Folded manuals still bug me, though PIECES: The Two Bags: Only two bags with no sub-bags. Nothing too fancy. Pieces (unsorted): And they're open! Lots of nice yellow, tan, and purple. Pieces (sorted): The pieces in all of their Cairo goodness. I just love the colors. Un-assembled Minifigs: The components of the minifigs. They make up a good chunk of this set. Color Comparison: The skin color for the Swordsman and the Thug is not quite Ugha and not quite Jones. I have personally never seen this color before, although it has appeared in other sets. Pieces:: Thoughts: Excellent variety and colors. Who can resist a tan barrel? MINIFIGS: Cairo Swordsman: Great printing and details. The Fantasy Era sword kind of kills it for me though. The turban piece isn't new but hasn't seen the light for a while. Cairo Thug: Finally, the Ninja headpiece is back! Great printing as well. Do I sense a theme remake? Unmasked: Underneath is the same head from Venice Canal Chase. Marion: Now featuring a silver frying pan. More new printing, and the expected double-sided head. Indy: This right here is my favorite part of the set. I just love the Cairo Indy torso. I'm just plain tired of getting the same torso over and over again. It definitely gives the impression of sweat which adds to the set because it is a chase scene in the hot Cairo sun. It's just one piece but it makes all the difference. Group Photo: And a group photo. Lovely printing on all of them! Minifigs:: Thoughts: This is one of the high-points of the set. 4 superb minifigs with great printing is just fantastic for a small set. THE BUILD: Stall Build: The market stall is built in 9 steps, pictured at 3 step intervals. No interesting techniques are used. You could practically build it using the box art. Cart Build: The cart also takes 9 steps, and uses a slightly interesting technique for the sides of the cart. Extra Pieces: Just two pieces leftover. Extra guns are always useful. Build:: Thoughts: Quick and easy. No revolutionary techniques used. For a set mainly focused on minifigs, this is expected. COMPLETED PRODUCT: The whole set: And the finished product! Lovely minifigs, nice cart, nice stall, lots of accessories, and a tan barrel. A match made in heaven. Random Scene: The set also offers great playability with plenty of hiding spots and Indy can even take Marion on a hay-cart ride. _______________________________________________ Now for those Totals! Design: 9/10 The top of the stall looks odd, but everything else is fine. Parts: 10/10 Nice colors and selection, and a tan barrel! I cannot emphasize that enough! TAN BARREL!! Build: 8/10 Stall is slightly repetitive, but the cart is fun to build. A very quick build for a $10 set though. Minifigs: 10/10 Exclusive figures with new prints. This gets a 10 without hesitation. Playability: 10/10 Two good guys and two bad guys makes playing fun. Throw in a barrel to hide in, a cart, and a stall to crash through, and your score is perfect! Price: 9/10 Good money value but in my opinion should be $9.99. I still feel it was worth it for the minifigs! Total: 56/60 A great little parts and minifigs pack that stands strong as a playset as well. Great pieces and colors will delight MOCers everywhere. It's a bit overpriced, but $1 isn't that much. This set is simply a must-have for anyone. Thanks for reading! -Inconspicuous

Excellent MOC cole! This is a very original adaptation. I guess the UFO at the end would be a Venator!

It looks like a pretty decent review. I'm not an expert on reviews, but a few basic things need improvement. Here are a few of my humble suggestions: -Take clearer pictures. Most cameras have a close-up setting (often a magnifying glass symbol) that is perfect for Legos. -Avoid glare on the box. Angling the box slightly will help eliminate the glare. Try to avoid taking a head-on shot with flash. -If possible, use white construction paper backgrounds. Lamps, desks, and other sets in the background can be very distracting to the reader. The comments are all thoughtful, but I think the pictures need a little work. Otherwise, this review is looking ok.

Jungle Adventure in Brazil
Inconspicuous replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks Brickster! I may have to pick this up! Zebra ..... doors...... so..... irresistible. -
Excellent review there! I didn't think I would buy any SPIII sets, but I might have to break that. Curses Lego, you make too many good sets. Oh well, I probably couldn't resist just a sample of the line anyways. Funny, though. I thought it was originally going to be called Container Heist I don't like the new name as much. Anyways, thanks again for the great review!

Congrats Erdbeereis! Have fun sailing and pillaging the (MO) "C's"! I may end up writing a few extra pirate reviews just to keep you busy. Good luck and once again congratulations!

Jungle Adventure in Brazil

Excellent photos Brickster! I especially like the Pontoon Plane's reflection in the water. Where is that zebra door on the car from? Is that an actual set? It's not one I'm familiar with. -
Amazing MOC there! I'd love to build one for my counter (If you don't mind me using your design) but..... what is that purple flowerpot piece? Thanks for sharing this! I look forward to more in the series! -Inconspicuous

I stopped by today at my local Big Lots. I got a $5 Mini Train Creator set for $3. Thanks for the heads up! -
I would love to see Senate Commando and Commando Droid battlepacks. It's bit of a stretch but they would be sooooooooo amazing.

Thanks for the great review def! I was unsure about getting this set, but now I can't live without it. I loved the feature video and the image at the end. Any more reviews headed our way?

Hi everyone! Welcome to my second review here. On my recent trip to New York, I picked up this set in the gift shop of the actual museum itself. I bought it as a souvenir, so I wasn't concerned about the $40 price tag. I enjoyed it quite a bit but I'll let you decide for yourself: Ridiculously Overpriced "Inverted Cupcake" or Appealing, Accurate Model of a Well-designed Monument? Set Name: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum® Set Number: 21004 Theme: Architecture Subtheme: Architects Year: 2009 Price: $39.99 USD Pieces: 208 Minfigs: None Lego Shop Description: A landmark of organic architectural design! 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of one of New York City’s best-known museums, the Solomon R. Guggenheim®. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the greatest architects of the 20th century, the museum opened just six months after he passed away. This intricately built LEGO® model, co-developed and designed by architect Adam Reed Tucker, celebrates Frank Lloyd Wright’s innovative vision and organic architectural style. The assembled Solomon R. Guggenheim museum model stands 4 inches (102 mm) tall on a gray and black base with printed name label and includes a booklet with facts about the building, its construction and its history. Perfect for any New Yorker, world tourist or architecture fan! * Replica of real-world architectural landmark Solomon R. Guggenheim museum! * Booklet included with details on design and history! (English language only) * Measures 4 inches (102 mm) tall! Resources: Peeron Brickset Bricklink Brickshelf Gallery Drum roll please! And now, the feature presentation! THE REVIEW: BOX: Front: Back: Side: Other Side: Top: Opened: Contents: Inside Edge: Enjoy your "building" experience. Get the pun? Box::Thoughts: Nice, sleek design. Very professional and appealing. You have to love the detail on the edges and back. It also opens very nicely. It's designed to be kept. Not too much empty space inside like some sets *cough*EchoBase*cough* I love the pun. INSTRUCTIONS: Front: First two pages: Random Page: Parts inventory: Back: Instructions:: Thoughts: Very sleek and lovely. Great facts and information about the building. The addition of the Piece Inventory for each step is very nice. They could have stayed open more easily though. THE PIECES: All 4 bags: Small bricks bag: Opened and sorted: Small plates and tiles bag: Opened and sorted: Large pieces bag: Opened and sorted: Medium pieces bag: Opened and sorted: Group photo: Pieces:: Thoughts: Fairly good selection. Only 3 colors though. I was surprised that the main part of the museum was white. I kept staring at the box before I built it wondering, "why, did they make it gray, when the building is white?" Well, they did make it white. The printed tiles are such a relief However, a few stickers to add more detail wouldn't hurt. For example, a sticker glass ceiling would be very nice. Glass ceiling (Inside view): THE BUILD: At Step 7, the base is done: At Step 14, the base of the museum is done: At Step 21, the first floor is done and the second begun: In Step 26, a few floors are built for the tan building: Then added: At Step 29, right before the main spiral is added: The main spiral: When added: The last two floors of the tan building: And the completed product!: Build:: Thoughts: Very enjoyable when done slowly. Nothing revolutionary, but a few nice techniques used. COMPLETED PRODUCT: No explanation necessary: I like the little walkway (If that's what it is): There's actually a little tan plate through the gap. Minor but interesting detail: Completed Product:: Thoughts: Excellent model. Very sleek, great counter-top display. Excellent, but subtle details. EVERYTHINGELSE: Extra Parts: The set fits back in the box mostly assembled: One thing that annoyed me was the fact that the tan building is not attached to the main building. They could have easily fixed that. Looks like Captain Rex isn't much of a Frank Lloyd Wright fan! The Whole Set: _____________________________________________________ Now for the stats: Design: 9/10 Very nicely designed. The building's "organic architecture" is well captured. Several very subtle optical illusions used. This would get a 10 if the tan building was attached to the main building. Parts: 8/10 Fairly good selection, but not enough colors. Minifigs: N/A Build: 9/10 Very relaxing and enjoyable. The repetitive tan building is broken up nicely. Playability: 7/10 Unless you're making a Lego horror film in which a monster destroys New York City, it's useless for playing. It's intended for display and gets its job done. Price: 4/10 $40 is very steep for the part count. Even with a sleek box and great instructions, it should be at least $10 cheaper. Total: 37/50 Considering all the bashing it's been getting, it's a very nice set. The only major downside is the price. Since I bought mine as a souvenir, and price is not a factor, my personal rating would be a 33/40, which is quite high. If you don't like the building, don't buy it. It's a display. Who would want an ugly display? If you like the building, it's probably worth getting. And if you've been to the museum, this is a must have! (All pictures of the actual museum were taken by me on my trip) Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read my review. Since this is only my second review here, I'm just getting the hang of things. I would love your comments, feedback, and questions. -Inconspicuous

Hi everyone! For my first review here, I present the latest and possibly greatest Brickmaster Exclusive Mini-model- The AT-TE! I know a few reviews are already out, but I thought I'd share my own opinion. Set Name: AT-TE Walker Set #: 20009 Theme: Star Wars-Clone Wars Pieces: 94 Minifigures: 0 Original Price: N/A, Brickmaster Exclusive (est. value, $6 USD) And now, the moment you've all been waiting for..... the review! POLYBAG: Back: Polybag with Clone Trooper (To show scale) Polybag with 8031 Mini V-19 Torrent Polybag:: Thoughts: The bag was MUCH bigger than I expected- I thought it would be about the size of the V-19 Torrent bag. And out come the contents! INSTRUCTIONS: Random Page Inventory Back Instructions:: Thoughts: Nice Instructions but the fold in half makes the booklet hard to keep open/photograph. They didn't have to fold it- it would fit in anyways as pictured below. PIECES: The bag contains only one mini-bag. Loose pieces Mini-Bag Contents of Mini-Bag All Pieces Pieces:: Thoughts: Nice selection, but nothing too uncommon. The battle droid torsos are nice, as well as the various clips and red pieces. THE BUILD: Very quick, fun build. At Step 5, the base is built. At Step 10, more details are added to the body. At Step 15, most of the body is done. The places where the legs attach are done as well. And after 21 steps, the product is done! Build:: Thoughts: Quick, easy, nice build. What else would you get from a mini-model? FINISHED PRODUCT: Front Back Top Side The middle leg can't move forward! Finished Product:: Thoughts: Nice model with nice colors. Printed pieces would be a great way to add more detail, but it's pretty nice already. EVERYTHING ELSE: Time for those little odds and ends! Spare Pieces With Clone for Scale: With its "Big Brother" With its counterparts, the other Clone Wars minis _____________________________________ Time for all the stats! Price: 9/10 Brickmaster Exclusive but apparently each set has an "estimated value of $6 USD". I would buy this for $6 USD if it weren't exclusive, and the Brickmaster package is a good deal. Parts: 7/10 Good selection, but a lot of gray. Minifigs- N/A Build- 10/10 Quick and easy, just like a mini-model should be. Playability 5/10 The legs can't realistically move, but the gun swivels. It's intended for display. Overall: 31/40 Not a bad set. Pretty good pieces, nice model. What more could you ask for? The instructions would have been nicer flat, but once it's built, that problem is gone! Hope you enjoyed my first review! I would love your feedback and comments! (EDIT: Folder now public: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=392619 )

Yes, exactly. They are claiming that Squidman is Ackbar and the other guy from Space Police III (can't remember his name) is Plo Koon.

Hi everyone, As an avid fan of Lego, I search anywhere and everywhere for new sources to get those irresistible bricks. I was browsing around a city-wide garage sale, hoping to find anything Lego at all. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything However, one person recommended that I check Craig's List. I've been checking it daily ever since. I just barely missed a Red Beard Runner (missing a few pieces) for $45 But today, I noticed a new item that made me want to throw my UCS Y-Wing at the computer screen. Image deleted. Contained real life contact information. Isn't that horrible? They even spelled Plo Koon's name "Plo Klon"

I would like to join as well. I love writing reviews and would like to improve! My photography skills are probably sufficient, and my camera definitely is! Thanks for your consideration!
