  6. wow your parts collection must round 60k?
  7. it did cross my mind to set up a wanted list of the parts on bricklink. In the end it was easier for me to just buy a complete model. Saved a lot of time and maybe it cost a little more than buying just the parts i needed
  8. hahaha! sounds to me like one of two things, either your house is too big or you have nearly as much lego as blackbird
  9. Thought i should add this there is another review for this model and can be found here (http://www.techlug.f...ew-lego-technic) Anio has done some fantastic reviews of official set as well as mocs from well known designers. his skill with a camera out ranks my cell phone any day of the week. I have spent many hours reading his reviews, and always go back and just brows the pics. enjoy Dougstar
  10. haha youll have to fight me for it
  11. That was the very reason why i decided to do the review, so for the people just starting out in our world. I would get one again if i was starting over
  12. Hello Eurobricks I had so much fun doing my last basic set review (http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=104943) I have decided to do another one 8416. For the readers that do not know this set, it was released in 2005 and it comes with 729 parts/pieces. After reading here on eurobricks and other sources on the net, it widely regarded as the best official techinc forklift to date. It lives up to this high recommendation in my humble opinion, so here goes. In the first pic we have all the parts ready to go. I bought my copy secondhand so unfortunately i have no box, lets build After 10 +- pages it looks like this at the moment dose not look like much. The build starts with the back and all thats on is the beginning of the mechanism that will operate the fork Steering rack added and the rear axles are connected to it, because it is a forklift it steers from behind for better control when collecting the next load After a few more pages 10 +- i have now added the crank that will operate the fork drive train, with a 20 tooth double bevel gear and 12 tooth double bevel gear and two 16 tooth gears. The H.O.G. steering is also coming together two 8 tooth gears and a single bevel 12 tooth and a single bevel 20 tooth gear. Now most of the back end of the chassis is complete, i have added the tail lights as well Okay the front end of the chassis is now on. The front axles have been added as well as a 16 white axle and single bevel 12 tooth gear that will mesh later on with business end of 8416 We can now see some of the body work taking shape. we can see front mudguard and part of the rear mudguard. Some substantial body work has been going on. The top of a 12 axle sticking out the top of the model, this is the H.O.G. steering. The front of the cab has been added as well as the roof. We have now got a place to sit and control panel and the steering wheel. Id like at this point to point out that this set has no stickers. The control panel is a printed part. The 8 x 4 dark bluish grey plate makes floor board. I thought that the seat was finished nicely with the blue bionicle teeth Wow! So both front mudguards are now on. A pair of fairings have have been added to the back end. The light that completes the H.O.G. steering has been added. Wheels and hubcaps Here is a shot of that pair of technic fairings, it has finished off the back very well The workings of the set is next and the last part of the build. Each side has five gear racks per side they are held on by a technic brick with 16 holes on each side Here are the forks with string with stud ends they are 41 studs long overall. The string (Bricklink ID 127c41) has appeared in 26 set. the most recent set was the sopwith camel 10226 released in 2012 We have built the carriage that the forks connect to. This carriage will be pulled up and down via the gear racks we added earlier This is the central part of the frame were the fork will do all its lift/travel. The double bevel 20 tooth gear will mesh with the 12 tooth single bevel gear located between the front wheels. i have also added a 4L universal joint and a12 tooth single bevel With the long gear racks the carriage and fork joined together it realy starts to resemble a forklift mechanisim. I have adde four dark red 11 x 8 wheels to the top wher later the string will be fed over. Here you can see the bottom of the technic bricks with 16 holes that hold the ten gear racks on the revers side. Here are the the ten racks. The lift is now the right way up and almost complete. With the central frame fork carriage and racks all connected together the "forklift" is now completed. Iv added another 4L universal joint and a worm gear. the worm gear is meshed with a 24 tooth crown gear. through the crown gear is a 10 axle on either end the of it is a pair 16 tooth gears. The 16`s use the gear racks to move the fork carriage up and down. In the middle you`ll notice a pair of red wishbone suspention arms. They will attach to the roof of the truck. this will hold the fork in place and control the tilt of the froks. The other side Here is the completed model along with a pallet and all the extras parts With the crank on the back of 8416 you can get some good hight. It is very easy to get the "lift" to go up. Mr technic is a little small but that did not stop him from get in and having a joy ride :-) I like the asymetrical of the body work it give the set a futuristic look. You will notic the the wishbone suspention arms on the top of the roof. In this picture the "lift" is tilted back to keep the load on. In this picture the "lift' is tilted forward to drop or collect the load The wishbone suspention arms are conectted to the truck with thin technic beam 1 x 3. By pulling them back the "lift" tilts back In this picture the "lift' is tilted back. Here is a good look at the wishbone mechenisim Here is the crank and the backend bottom of the "lift" 12 singel bevel and 20 double bevel gears meshed and the two 4L universal joints A quick size comparecen with 8284 My final words. This was a very easy bulid, i built it over about 3.5/4 hours at a very relxing pace. it it is a very well designed set and has good playability. My only gripes with the set are 1 no motor 2 seat and steering are out of propotion On the plus side 1 no stickers 2 builds a fairly large set 3 no stress or strain to get it to do what it suposed to do 4 not very inexpensive on bricklink Thanx for taking the time to read my review. If i have left any thing out please comment DOUGSTAR
