But it's not without good reason, if you think about it all media related to HF is advertising the building sets as they are the only things that you pay money for. If there is a DVD (or theater) movie of Hero Factory, then it would be a lot more serious and not so slapstick

Oh I didn't know that...I thought either the retailers were afraid, or that the posters of the pictures were customers getting a sneak peek.
-
Why are the pictures so blurry? I thought that if you're a retailer you have every right to share the sets? This happened at a store in India, they had the 2h2012 retailer catalog out for people to look at. If only they did that in the US (maybe they do in small toy shops but where I live there's not a single toy store)

The faces scared the hell out of me - for some reason it doesn't match the voice (which is quite bad itself). It seems more like a 22-minute advertisement of the heroes rather than an episode. There's also almost no suspense. The invaders arrive, the beasts arrive, and the omnipotent heroes fight them.

that's true... although I never really got into the story of bionicle, the whole story kind of got into your head if you had any interest in the sets. The very different thing about bionicle was that they had a small storyline for every single toy that was released. I remember the mini comics that came in the 2004 matoran, and now that I think about it, it was quite a lot of effort put into something that came with a 4 dollar set. on the other hand HF has a basic story which is not restrictive, allowing you to build any hero with any name you want (whereas there was only a set number of toa). bionicle had a great collection of rahi that were much more than generic "bad guys". so I'd say either theme has its own storyline strengths.

What happened to nex? I really want nex to be in a titan size set in 2014 because he's always been in a tiny size, and it would be cool to see a big orange-and-green mech.

How do you pronounce Ninjago? :-)
Bob C replied to Luke_likes_Lego's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Astronomy and Astronaut both use the same root "Astro". It's not like astronomy is only performed by astronauts. -
I hope Lego displays the 2nd wave HF there.

Bulk deserves to be in a bigger set.

Well I'm not trying to argue here. Where I live, I don't see much buzz in the Lego aisle about Chima or Ninjago. The only people I see interested in it are parents pushing their kids along in a cart, and the kid wants it without knowing it's Lego. With bionicle, however, I saw adults going through the sections, buying the sets for themselves, and people getting much more excited about them. And by blind-bags...I meant things like figures that did not interlock with anything else, like the trash pack, star wars fighter pods, and other stuff like that. I always thought of bionicle collectibles as "fuel" for the stand-alone sets.

You're right that Bionicle was declining in sales constantly. But what I was trying to say waS that it was really well known and had some kind of passionate reaction from everybody (negative or positive). On the other hand, ninjaGo and Chima are like fads. A lot of people like it, but most people above age 12 or so don't care much about it. Unfortunately though, a bionicle-like theme or a rebooted bionicle wouldn't be profitable for LEGO anymore, after the blind bag/Grumpy Sparrows craze has swept the world. What would be horrible is LEGO making cheap, useless toys to compete with blind bags.

bionicle was only around for 9 years (2001-2010) 10 if you count inclusively. Although I don't know the numbers, I'm pretty sure bionicle was more popular, because EVERYTHING in 2005 and 06 had some kind of bionicle versions- napkins, cups, towels, water guns, everything!!

I thinm it's hard to really predict what will happen to Lego's constraction themes. What happened in the past is not a very accurate indicator, as toys were the main play thing those days (other than expensive game console s). Now we have 99 cent apps that take very little attention to play, and I think Lego will try to compete with that kind of thing- kind of like chima. It's not the Best thing, but it will be a source of income for Lego

I don't know about others, but Bionicle was a big part of my childhood. I got a couple bohrok in 2002, kraata, and all 6 matoran in 04, and Tower of Toa and 8(?) glatorian in '09. Not a lot, but i got them since I was 4.

LEGO doesn't include HF in their catalogs from time to time, but chima always seems to make it.

What happened to Racers? There was no announcement of it ending, and no one even seemed to notice. Was it the lack of sales, or ideas?

I'll miss hero factory if it ends, but if the new constraction theme is better, it won't matter too much. I just hope they don't rush the ending like they did with bionicle (the stars sets were horrible). i remember seeing this too, do you remember where that announcement was? I wouldn't really expect bionicle to return, especially since TLG has recently gone in a completely different direction with ninjago and chima etc. The only lines that are still like they used to be are Technic, Creator, and CITY.

I really hope the summer wave has a large set, along with the single hero/villain mech sets. But it's too early to speculate about summer releases.

hopefully this enables american retailers to reduce the price of DB and rocka jet.

What's your favorite Hero Factory XL set ?
Bob C replied to Legofan225's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Definitely stormer xl. pretty small build (only 89 pieces) but it's substantial and well-designed. I guess furno xl is not bad, but i'm not a big fan of the furno sets. EDIT if B&V qualifies as an xl set, then that's my favorite -
Bionicle was so deep compared to Galidor. I'm not one of those hardcore "no comparison" fans, but I think comparing Galidor with Bionicle is like comparing a blueberry to a watermelon(size wise). galidor is better than what most people think though; I don't own any of the sets, but they look kind of interesting and different.

Wait a minute ...I found some on a thai website. Search "lego 44022" in the past 24 hours (as of 17:57 EST)

The 44022 review is missing!

Where did brickshelf user JohnLennon find the evo xl set?
