  1. This is a great idea, and if Lego ever does do this type of theme, I think this concept would be the likely form. Castle Lego was always a generic theme, not set in one place or era, and the modern theme is even more so. A mix and match approach would give Lego plenty of scope for sets, good play appeal for kids, and what all of us really want!
  2. One of the things the Roman writers commented on during the conquest of Britain was the fact that the native British wore trousers, I assume this was also the case in Gaul.
  3. thats excellent! I hope so to, the woad on the face would be perfect for the warriors of Gaul as well... But i'm not so sure this will be reality though.
  4. I don't think an extra couple of pounds on a £70 set is really anything to worry about. The prices of the smaller sets do seem to have gone up a little (under a quid), but these are not serious price rises, and none are as serious as this: If you are spending £70 on a set, does it really make that much difference to pay £75?
  5. Any classical civilization would do for me to be honest, both would have merit. But to pick one I would choose Rome, because this might have less of a mythical edge to it. I think if Lego did make a theme like this, they might go for Greece because this would allow Human vs. Monster, and it seems like this storyline is preferred by thier marketing departments. Astrix is great, but not accurate! But the 'horned helmet', for Late Iron Age 'barbarians' has more of semblance of accuracy than for 'Vikings'. At the end of the day 300 is a film, a good one, but had to tick the right boxes to ensure success. Neither side was protrayed in a positive way. All classical civilizations were built upon slave ownership and cruelty. No mention is made of the role of Athens in antagonising Darius which led to the first war, nor of the Persians general belief that they were fighting against 'the Lie', and upholding 'the Truth'. Both sides were cruel, with Sparta oppressing the indigenous population as Helot slaves, who were often hunted for pleasure by an aristocratic elite with paedophiliac tendencies, whilst the barbarity of Xerxes is emphasised.
  6. I've been thinking about this as well, to make a real concertina may well be beyond what is possible with Lego. But if a 'pretend concertina' would be acceptable, as in the .pdf linked by theOtters, using these technic pieces might look good:., for the sides and top, but the top corners would loose the effect a little.
  7. these were really great entries, congratulations, and enjoy your MiniFig's!
  8. The band in the Otters post, though i've just realised the connection to your name... you might have been a fan back in the eighties?
  9. whitesnake? now i am gonna be sick!
  10. eventully in a clearing I found fresh water... it was a relief to know I would finally quench my thirst... as I rested I tried to clear my mind, to rid myself of the paronoia that had been building up... I did not like this island, I felt uneasy, like I was being watched... but worse than that, I was starting to feel like I was being hunted... to be continued...
  11. Yeah, I think people should, I have done in the past (not Lego, but general shoplifters), but it depends on how much of a rush i'm in. We all have to pay more for essentials and luxuries because of retail theft, so i'm all in favour in grassing them up (but only if i've got time to waste).
  12. I think this tanker looks really nice as it is, I think the proportions are just right, although I do agree about the printed Octan signs. They should not be rusty! I think the large quarter circle parts could be really usefull for all sorts of MOC's. The concept of selling seperate sets of rolling stock is a excellent idea, you could build an interesting cargo train with a few multiple purchases, so it would be a good idea for Lego to relaunch the concept now. I think a great review of a great set.
  13. I really like this set, a great collection of figures. I would have liked printed road signs (like in the 80's!), and in an ideal world it would not contain a Police Man, but to be fair I do like his head, so it was still usefull. A set of four civilians would be the ultimate, but having three (one a girl), is more than acceptable. The accesories are excellent, and I think the bench is really clever, and has been an inspiration to me. So all in all an excellent set I think, and I hope we get a new one soon!
  14. In the UK, I think that is an essential modification!
  15. Some might have read this already, I found it on the BrickLink forum. It's an article detailing the business misfortunes of MegaBlocks Mega Blocks in trouble
  16. this review is great, the bored sarcasm that you keep up is top notch! I don't blame you in the least, it does look very weak.
  17. I am divided upon this, the first sets that I bought when I rediscovered Lego -the city construction line, I have not touched. To me they look perfect, whether it is through rose tinted eyes because they were my introduction to Lego again, or maybe they are actually nice models to look at I don't know. But now having brought the whole line I have diversified out from them, and I buy sets just to get pieces which I do not have. I build the instructed model just for the calming effect that following instructions gives, but my intention is to destroy, sort, and then MOC. I have more sets which I brought for this purpose, than sets which I built to display, so I think I am an 'improver', but often my 'improvements' are MOC so they bare no resemblance to the original set, so maybe I do not even fit into that!
  18. This does look like a nice set, and much better than the advent calender... but $100 is very over priced.
  19. I don't think it matters to much, e-Bay tends to be full of people trying to rip of buyers (mainly star wars characters) anyway, so it all comes down to 'buyer beware', some of these instances could be genuine mistakes, others are as pointed out deliberate. As we know what we are looking for in our purchases we can take advantage of genuine mistakes to get good bargains, whilst ignoring the lots which are deliberately mislabeled. As for the moral character of those who try to rip of the buyers, maybe questionable, but we would all jump at the chance to win a lot which is mislabeled in our favour?
  20. Thanks for all the positive comments from you all. I deffo had fun thinking this one up and building it! As AFOL we should understand our MiniFigs are a complex blend of both good and evil, and it might be that sometimes even a Troll would like to make someone smile... I'm glad you approve of your foot soldiers helping instead of destroying!

    City '09?

Very true, I think they could have used the Hawaiian Shirt Torso in this, would be a good incentive to buy!

    City '09?

I think that might be a helmet, like the kid skateboarder had in CityCorner.
  23. our story begins when this cat gets stuck up a tree... the cat belongs to this young lady, she was so upset... luckily she knows who to call for help... the rescue wagon is manouvered into place... the rescue begins... the Orc captain comforts her as his boys get to work... one cat rescued, a much happier young lady... off to do more good deeds...
  24. Will we be voting untill we get the answer right?
  25. That's just crazy, absolutly on logic at all. Looks like it's finding a European shop with reasonable markup and postage then... They are been released in Europe I hope?
