    City 2010

So good news then: a really interesting set with piglets to come soon. If the rest are (boring) Fire Department, this means there is plenty of space left for a variety of intresting sets to be released throughout the year....

    City 2010

This list is not the end of the world for the AFOL, I think these three sets sound really promising. I also think that the Airport sets might be OK as well... The emphasis on the Fire Department is obviously targetted at the 'age 5-12', and this is the bread and butter of Lego business strategy, we are under no obligation to buy these emergency vehicle sets. Last year Lego released Medieval Market Village, which is a huge success with AFOL, and perhaps we might see another of these exclusive sets again (i hope!).
  3. Maybe this is the reason that the Lego City Fire Department needs to be redesigned and released every year?
  4. I asked this question in this topic, because I did not want to waste money on either an unsuitable camera, or one that had features I was not going to use, and had some really good advice. The camera recommended is superb for the price.
  5. I think the photography in this is excellent, I totally agree it's almost 'film noir'. The MOC is very good aswell, but maybe the 'bank' is a better discription - but the bleak colours have made this a really intresting image.
  6. This is an excellent idea, (i wish i had more time at the moment to learn to build this). The first two posts are detailed and I can see this topic being a well used resource in the future. I wish you all the best of luck!
  7. I have bought and sold Lego on eBay.co.uk recently and I have not had this mail. I do not think it would be possible that this could be enforced, if this is a real mail, then it will spell the end for eBay, because where does it end? It is not realistic, beacause as already pointed out, when we buy something we are entitled to dispose of the asset in any way we see fit. That could include selling it/ giving it away / keeping it. That is my understanding of British Law, and I presume that it is applicable for most European countries. The literate style of the original quote does not seem in keeping with the way the eBay communicates with its members, and legislation of this nature on a European scale would be 'common news', as it would not just effect eBay, but also many small and independent retailers.
  8. I think this is an excellent idea. The 'community build' concept is excellent, and I don not think that you will have any problems implementing that strategy with this project. Although I have never made any Apocalyptic yet (and I have zero time at the moment!), I would like to get involved. If you are after Positive in a few weeks, you have one vote!
  9. Great photography here, excellent MOC. Ronny Blunder!
  10. A very good point, and you are right that Lego have produced good original themes recently (city, castle, pirates), whilst producing good Licensed sets aswell. And I hope that they are able to continue to deliver good original themes, whilst developing the new licences. What has made me think about this period (well into my Dark Age, so i can not comment on 'Lego'), but I was a fan of the remastered Star Wars films, (and i am sure it was the revival of the original pictures that created the market for terrible prequels/ sequels), so it would not surprise me that funds were diverted by Lego R&D towards the 'Milch Cow' of star wars?
  11. I of course voted for 'original themes', and it was City that took my out of the Dark Age aswell, and now I buy City/ Pirates / Castle, and soon some Space Police... What made me reply to the thread is the quoted comment, I really think this is on target thinking, it would not surprise me that a R&D budget was allocated in this way. I would hate to see this happen again, that original themes are sidelined to create more time and resources for the development of new licensed themes.
  12. You have made some great characters here, I hope your storey goes well. If you need a graphics program (and use Windows) look for 'Gimp', its a free and sort of a watered down photoshop. You will be able to do all you need with it, and very simple to use as well.
  13. BrickLink and EuroBricks, the two best Lego sites, and occasionally use Peeron. BrickLink is brilliant because you can find out what is in sets, and then start to buy the pieces, I have not noticed any errors in the listings, but I do not really 'collect' classic sets. And to see what you are buying/ wanting the reviews on this site are excellent (allthough as a downside you tend to 'want' to many boxes....)
  14. To 'set the cat amongst the pigeons' a little, I think your FireStation MOC is better than the Lego release... Maybe you should MOD the Lego release into something else?
  15. I think this might be jumping to conclusions, not quite as bad as 'the scotsman' farce recently, but getting pretty close...
  16. I would buy Elves, but they are not a theme I would be over excited about to see. I hope they do release them because I think the more veriety we get in MiniFig's the better, and they will include good accersories and parts in green and brown.
  17. I've just wasted an hour on his page, the ideas are excellent. My favourate:
  18. I think this is a great pack, but I totally agree with Even if there were a few small brick built accesories, like the City MiniFig Pack, these would be much better. But on the other hand, maybe we should be glad just to get the Orc + Dwarf figures?
  19. I think mine is 50/50 with Sets and BrickLink, but recently I have spent more on BrickLink, and I can see that trend continuing. I have most of the City sets I have bought on display, whilst Castle and Pirates are sorted and I mainly MOC with these. I am a great fan of BrickLink, I do not know any other way that you could build up a decent amount of Usefull pieces to MOC with, other than spending unrealistic money on multiple sets. In hindsight I wish I had understood BrickLink when I started to get back into Lego, as I have bought some sets for pieces (and ended up with things I didn't really want or need). In the future I can see my spending on sets being far less than my spending on BrickLink. I think if you still really want to keep your sets built on display, you should invest some money on Usefull pieces from BrickLink. If you buy new you are paying a little extra, but you do end up with the pieces that you want and need, so in my opinion it is worth it.
  20. A great MOC, the bowed out sides are excellent, the only thing I do not like is the front windscreen, but you probably did not have much choice to get that size. To be honest Amsterdam trams have always been a sore subject for me, to many near death expierences!
  21. I tend to go for Small and Medium sets, the only large set I have bought is the Construction Site because I liked the Crane and Excavator. I intend to buy Medieval Village soon, and maybe the Pirate ship, but apart from them the larger sets do not interest me. The smaller sets are great to get MiniFig's and parts, and are cheap enough to buy without thinking, whilst the large sets (over £50) to me require more thought and justification. I vote for Medium because if Lego never produced another Large set (unlikely!) I would not be bothered!
  22. This is a great MOC, and post! The smoke is excellent, and the whole concept very original. Next you should do process the honey, and make a centrifuge! excellent
  23. Space Police all the way for me! Why? Squidman, but all of the alien minifigs are excellent characters. Also with Space Police being an original theme the aliens are unique, and not the emulation of a film. This will probably divide along those who like Licensed, and those who favour the Lego themes.
  24. This is a great review, but of a medicore set (in my opinion). What puts me off is the colour, I think if this set was an unusual colour (lime!), I would buy for the parts, the tree being a big attraction, but not in (boring) red. The MiniFig is great, and I like the emergency phone (even if it is so last century!), but to me this is not worth the price.
  25. This is open to debate, the origin is attributed by Classical authors, to either the Etruscans or the Campanians. Modern interpretations would favour a southern origin on the basis of earliest known Gladiator schools in this area.
