  1. A quick search brought up 2 existing topics on cleaning old brics. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...amp;hl=cleaning and http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...amp;hl=cleaning As for me, hand washing with a wet rag and drying with a dry one, is all I've ever done. If you don't have the time to do it right, you don't have the time to do it twice. That's what I say.
  2. If you read the frontpage news, you'll find out that Bonapart has informed us that pirates is not going away, it is just on a break since it is not a regular theme.
  3. Today we are looking at Star Wars set 6205 V-Wing Fighter. This was the second set I bought after coming out of my dark ages of LEGO. BASIC INFORMATION: Set Name: V-Wing Fighter Set Number: 6205 Number of Pieces: 118 LEGO box, 118 Peeron, 118 Brickset, 114 Bricklink Minifigs: 1 Price: $10 USD Theme: Star Wars Year Released: 2006 RESOURCES: Peeron Bricklink Brickset Flickr (high res pics available here) THE REVIEW: The Box: This box is a refreshing site compared to my last two reviews. Since I bought this in a retail store, it is still in great condition. Front: All the basic info is there and I like the shot, it clearly shows the ship in action. I like the small vader mask in the top right corner as well as the silver for the Star Wars lettering. Side: This is what we are now used to. A full body shot of the minifig included and since there are so few figs, you then get a close up shot of him in his cockpit. Back: The back has a nice variety of images. Two shots showing features of the V-Wing, as well as two alternate models. I found it weird that they advertise the very set you purchased on the back of the box. Instructions Front: Same image as the box, and again in great condition since it was purchased new. Back: Advertising as usual. This makes me miss the back of the older sets with Yoda looking at the LEGO site. Random Page: Mid build with the V-wing, I specifically choose this page since it shows the R2 unit being hidden by some flaps. The R2 unit, although only the dome is in fact a standard Q7-series astromech droid from Industrial Automaton. Although "astromech droid" is the technically correct term, characters in the Star Wars movies tend to use the colloquial "astro-droid" for short. Contents: 118 pieces of LEGO Star Wars glory, that clone is yelling, put me together. Printed Pieces: I love printed pieces and I think most other do too, so I always try to highlight them. Sadly this is the only part of the R2 unit that we get. Hey at least there are no stickers! Minifigs: Front: The V-Wing clone pilot in all his glory. Alot of printing detail on this helmet makes it worthwhile. Back: Good back printing, all good torsos have back printing Helmet off One of the black faceless clones. Looks great with the helmet on, but not so much as an individual. The V-Wing Front: For not having any smooth/rounded pieces at the front, this set is still good looking in my opinion. It's a bit blocky at the front, but then again it is still LEGO. Back: Two little thrusters power this agile fighter. Your R2 unit is protected by secure durasteel flaps. Excellent. Left Side: A fairly sleek fighter if I do say so. Dual blasters on either wing provide ample fire power for those nasty dogfights. Right Side: What, am I looking through a mirror? No this is the right side, same as the left. Usually this is a given, but not in the world of Star Wars, plus who doesn't like alternate pictures. Bottom: LEGO dropped the ball here in my opinion. Then again it is a Ten dollar set. No landing gear, just a few studs, this doesn't cut it in my eyes. Alternate Bottom: As you can see the studs almost look like I added them. I really do not like this landing gear. Open Wings Front: I added a few bricks to the landing gear to prop it up for the open wings shots. I purposely left the wings askew a bit to emphasize that they are completely movable on their axis and are not on click hinges. Open Wings Back: The flaps over R2 are hinged so they do click into place but the actual wings can go until they hit bricks. Open Wings left side: Similar to by beginning shots, but it does show a different angle with the wings open. Open Wings right rear: One last parting shot, R2 beeps goodbye. The extra pieces are usually quite small in these cheaper sets, but worth noting. Totals: Design: 8/10 If the landing gear was different this would have scored higher with me. I do like the wings alot so I can't rate it too low. Parts: 8/10 The R2 head is always a plus and I am partial to the Red pieces. Good parts for the set, but I don't know if it would be worth buying only for the parts. Build: 7/10 This was about 5-10 mintues, I didn't really keep track, but like all LEGO it's fun. I have to complain that the canopy is not on a hinge and has to be completely removed to get your fighting clone out. Minifig's: 6/10 I honestly don't really like these clones so I might be scoring a bit low, but I also went lower since you only get one. Playability: 9/10 This would easily be a ten if their was functioning landing gear. Ships always score high in my book since they can be swooshed and you could run around your whole house with just one ship, if your imagination fuels you to do so. Price: 10/10 The piece to dollar ratio is much better than some other sets. I think the higher piece count is due to the sole minifig you receive. Great deal though. Totals: 48/60 A great set that I just had to buy since it was cheap. It does have some downfalls as noted about. The cockpit, the lack of landing gear, and only one minifig. The pieces are nice, and you do get an R2 head. If you didn't buy this new, I personally would not pay over retail for it.
  4. I sought out this set on Ebay because it was and still is the only way to get Tusken Raiders. BASIC INFORMATION: Set Name: Tusken Raider Encounter Set Number: 7113 Number of Pieces: 90 LEGO box, 90 Peeron, 93 Brickset, 82 Bricklink Minifigs: 3 Price: $10 USD Theme: Star Wars Year Released: 2002 RESOURCES: Peeron Bricklink Brickset flickr (High res pics available here) THE REVIEW: The Box: I bought mine off of Ebay so luckily the box is still in good condition, it has a nice scene of Anakin flying by some Tusken Raiders with his lightsaber out and ready for battle. Although this exact scene never happened in the movie, (IE: he snuck into the camp on foot), it displays the set nicely. Front: Clearly shows what you get, Anakin, two Tusken Raiders, speeder, and vaporators (or so I call them). Although there are 3 pictured, you only get one. I think LEGO did alright having them so far off in the background. Side: Nice profile of the minifigs included in the old style as opposed to the new full body shots Back: Shows some alternate models you can build as well as a real life shot of Anakin for comparison. Instructions: Front: It contains the same image as the box, nothing too fancy. Back: Showing Yoda on his old IBM checking out the new models at www.LEGO.com/starwars Random page: Showing construction of Anakins speeder. Contents: All the pieces minus the minifigs. 90 pieces, 93 pieces, 82 pieces? Depends who you ask. Printed pieces: I really like this piece, it's part of the vaporator but it reminds me of a piece that would make sense on a bacta tank. No stickers in this set! Minifig's: Cape Box 42928: For the record cape box 42928 contains a single brown jedi cape for Anakin. Front: The Tuskens are awesome, and probably the main reason anyone bought this set. It is the only set to ever offer Tusken Raiders. Also Anakin has a unique torso with his Jedi braid, and a nice chrome lightsaber hilt which are almost completely now extinct. In the picture I only show one gun, but both Tuskens have one, they are black and the typical LEGO rifle that you might remember from any of the old Pirate sets. Back: The two Tusken Raiders have nice back printing, which nicely compliments their front printing. Nothing under the cape for Anakin. Ships/Stuff: Vaporator: The Vaporator is just in the set to add parts but it's a nice little piece. It doesn't really interact with the set but it's great for background material. Also if you bought more than one of these sets like I would have loved to for the Tuskens, then you'd have a Vaporator field. It opens up and shows you the inner working which consists of the sweet printed tank and some lights. No real purpose but it gives you something to do. Again, a number of these would make a good Vig setup. Anakins Speeder Front Anakins speeder is presented in brilliant red. It's a little fragile with the front plates being held on by only one stud. Even with that downfall, it's a nice speeder. Back Very functional looking, I like the flap on the back. It just makes the back of the speeder flow nicely. The Complete Set: The Tuskens scare easily! They are also great shots, with their long range rifles. Anakin jumps off his speeder and confronts the clumsy Tuskens. Needless to say, Anakin makes short work of the Tusken Raiders who hurt him in a way no Sith ever could. On to the next gigantic mistake I'm going to make in my Jedi career. The complete set in all of it's glory. Extra pieces are very few and far between. Just 4 with this set. Totals: Design: 9/10 The speeder looks great in my opinion, and the minifigs are great. The vaporator isn't neccessary but it adds to the scene and makes sense. Parts: 8/10 Nothing too super special, but the printed flat 2x2 tank is nice and I personally like the rods used to make the speeder. All in all, nothing super valuable, but the red is a nice color. Build: 7/10 Easily done in 5 minutes, not challenging at all, but that must be worth something, you'll be playing in no time. Minifig's: 10/10 The minifig's are priceless to me since they are so limited, these aren't like clones where everyone has a bunch. For the price, a Jedi and two Tuskens is totally worth it. Playability: 9/10 The set is straight out of the movie and is easy to set up your favorite scene. There are not alot of moving parts or interactive parts, so it doesn't get a perfect score. Price: 10/10 For ten dollars, you can't beat two Tuskens and a Jedi. I know the standard is four fig's for ten dollars, but with the Turskens being so rare and even back in 2002, they were cool, and only available in this set. It gets a perfect score from me. Total: 53/60 I consider this the battle pack of the early years. If I was collecting back then, I would have bought at least twenty of these. The fig's are great for the price, it is the only set that offers Tusken Raiders, and the speeder is pretty cool. It has some nice red pieces which my collection is missing, so it scores pretty high with me. Let me know what you think!
  5. This set is an old one but has two great minifigs. I actually picked this up off of ebay a while ago and paid well over the original friendly price tag. That was before I knew they were remaking Yoda and Dooku, oh well, live and learn. On to the good stuff. BASIC INFORMATION: Set Name: Jedi Duel Set Number: 7103 Number of Pieces:81 LEGO box, 81 Peeron, 82 Brickset, 74 Bricklink Minifigs: 2 Price: $10 USD (or around $45 on ebay) Theme: Star Wars Year Released: 2002 RESOURCES: Peeron Bricklink Brickset flickr (High res pics available here) THE REVIEW: THE BOX, now with more self wear, and ugly sticker price residue Front: Good old LEGO making the set seem better than it is, with glowing light sabers and all. Side: Includes a great picture of Yoda and Count Dooku getting along. At least long enough to pose for this picture. Back: Shows some alternate models you can build and a preview of other sets, including 7113, which you can expect a review on shortly. Instructions: Front: It contains the same image as the box and is quite old and used as you can see. This is one of the few instructions in my library that has been used well. Back: Showing Yoda on his old IBM checking out the new models at www.LEGO.com/starwars Random page: Yoda is just checking out the specs on the rotary girder. LEGO insert: Front: Anyone remember Jack Stone, because I actually don't. Back: Lots and lots of LEGO advertising going on here, and being that I wasn't collecting in 2002, the Life on Mars sets look appealing. MINIFIGS: Front: This is the main reason I sought out this set at such a high price: Yoda and Dooku, two fig's that are were hard to come by a year ago. Dooku's Light saber is boss, being it's the only minifig to get it. Yoda was on my list of minifigs to get and of course he comes with the “I'm too short to actually walk” legs. Both worth the original $10 in my opinion, in fact in my opinion they are worth $45. The chrome light saber hilts are a plus too! An interesting fact is there were 2 prints of Dooku's face, a dark beard which I have in this set and a lighter beard which more closely matches his hairpiece. The lighter version is displayed below courtesy of bricklink. Back: Nice little print job on the back of Yoda's robes and I'll save you the extra picture because there is nothing under Dooku's cape Ships/stuff: #1 Count Dooku's little speeder is a nice change from the plain Jane speeders, it has two nice printed pieces and is cleverly built. It's got a different design that the original speeder we are used to seeing scout troopers on. It's small but functional, it even has clips for weapons on the side, plus the air intake on the top is a nice touch. I'm not sure if this was the intent, but Count Dooku's cape fit's nicely under the air intake so it looks like it is flowing in the wind. I feel the printed pieces bring this speeder together and it's a nice one off bike for Count Dooku. The rotary girder as I like to call it is simply there for extra pieces; it appears that you can have it break down probably from the force. It's a nice touch but I would have preferred more minifigs, but for ten bucks you can't complain. Enjoy the following different views. #2 #3 #4 The girder itself: I felt it deserved some pics alone so you can see the multiple ways it can move. #1 Here you see how if you move up the handle, it allows the crane piece to fall over, why? Not sure, probably a tragic victim of the force, enjoy the next few pics showing it's versatile movements. #2 #3 #4 #5 LOOK, It can move the other way. OK, I'm sure you think I'm on a picture quota. I'm done with that piece, I just didn't know how else to show you the availability of movements it had. Final Product: Dooku shows up and Yoda immediately shows him his force power by moving the crane slightly to the left. That'll show him. Count Dooku is frightened for his life and turns right around (as does the crane) and the sound of Yoda's light saber is too much, Count Dooku retreats like the coward he is. Totals time Design: 7/10 I like the ship, even though it's pretty simple, but the crane to me seems useless. It was probably just to fill up the parts list. Parts: 8/10 I give it such a high score because of the bent light saber hilt, this is the only set you can get it in (until the remake), and it's a marvelous piece. The printed pieces are nice but nothing to write home about. Overall the parts are good for the original money. Build: 7/10 Nothing too challenging here, very few pieces with a few technic ones thrown in, but easily done in about five minutes. Minifigs: 9/10 Again, I am rating them so high because of their rarity. Even though they have been remade for the clone wars sets, they are still the originals and that means a lot to some people. Two is definitely not four like today’s battle packs, but back then before any thought of a battle pack, this was a great way to get two rare minifig's. Playability: 10/10 Ten because it makes sense. It's a scene from the movie, so you already know what to do, but the speeder bike works well, and the crane is just a fun piece you could force throw at Dooku. Price: 8/10 I think the $10 sets have always been a bargain, but one more minifig would have been nice, not sure who. Anyway, I was willing to drop $45 since they are collectors items so $10 is a bargain. Total: 49/60 It's a simple set the way they were back in 2002. It features a few good pieces but I think most people bought this set for the minifig's. I really like the smaller set's that LEGO used to do for the Star Wars line, now it seems like everything but the battle packs starts at $25. With that said, if you're a collector you should definitely get this one and if you happen to run across it cheap, pick it up.
  6. The scream extracter! I was going to say the same thing. Brilliantly done though, I really like the heads in the containers and that guys face. Nice job
  7. I just bought 2 Nute Gunrays, 1 Onaconda Farr,. and 1 Hoth Han Solo Woot!!
  8. Very nice review, I never bought this because it didn't look that appealing, but your review makes me wish I did get it. I didn't realize it was so big. and I don't know how but I missed the 3rd cockpit for the rear gunner. I guess I just never noticed it before. Definetaly a cooler set than I had first thought. Thnaks for the review.
  9. That's cool, but man that would get heavy. I wouldn't want to drop a nice set and break a fragile piece. Still very cool for writing or hanging minifigs on it.
  10. Order sent, I can pay as soon as it's invoiced. Thanks again.
  11. Wow, that's incredibly accurate. Great job, they all really look like their real counterpart. I really like the elf's hair.
  12. I'll take the 2 nute Gunrays, the Onaconda Farr, and the Hoth Han Solo. I can paypal immedietaly, let me know where to send it. 11.50 Nute 11.50 Nute 11.50 Onaconda 4.00 Solo 3.25 shipping ---------------- 41.75
  13. I would assume they would honor any current cards you have, or even convert it at a certain rate. If this goes online, I'll jump up and down and sing. Almost all of my purchases are from Shop @ Home. Again, I agree with the above statement that it probably is a LEGO STORE promotion.
  14. In one thread you trash my bricklink suggestion, but in this one you embrace it????? Your welcome.
  15. I don't want to sound mean, but that's the point of Bricklink. Most of us have bricklink accounts. The point of bricklink is a place for people to put their private collections up for sale. Plus there are tons more people on bricklink actively trading/selling LEGO than here.
  16. smokebelch, your pictures always impress. Do you take setup shots, I'd love to learn from you.
  17. Gotcha, i guess I misunderstood you as you misunderstood me, since I misunderstood you I meant no one voted for you, when I thought that you thought that the we voted for the winner. I know people voted for your MOC's, they are really good. Just a huge misunderstanding, my apologies.
  18. Hmm, I like it but itis incredibly similar to the scout walker that comes with the clone battle pack. Is it just a little shorter?
  19. Our LEGO ambassader actually confirmed that we are not getting anymore.
  20. MKissing some details, but still, if this ever happened. I would buy many many of these.
  21. Happy birthday guys, I hope you receive many LEGOs.
  22. Count my vote for the hopefuls. The $129.99 AT-AT was too expensive for me. A midiscale one would be excellent. On the other hand a larger version might make it worth buying. hmmmm
  23. I would bet money this is why. Agreed. Honestly I'm not as involved in the Pirate community, so I actually thought it was. Dissapointing news.
  24. 3oh!3 - Starstrukk
  25. I can't pick one, namely becasue I don't own a bunch of the expensive sets so I can't truley comment on them. I'd have to say the UCS Millenium Falcon or the UCS death star or the Endor base (I freakin love it) or the RGS, another of my favorites I just can't choose.
