Working on my port on the idea of a civil war between the Blue Coats and the Red Coats. I was toying with mini-figs like I always do on my "LEGO Sundays" and I came up with a combo for my "blue coat special forces", the Black Coats. I have always tried to use the pirate captain torso to make it into some sort of soldier with varried degrees of success. I have some flickr links with what I came up with so far. What photo site does everyone else use to post their pictures because I am not able to do it with flickr it seems? The bayonet idea I saw in one of the MOC forums, and is not my idea. I have seen others use the captain torso for troops, but I think Im the first with this combo. If I'm not, let me know. Also, I have been thinking about giving my Black Coats either red or black "gloves". What do you think, red, black, or leave it just as hands? I will probably give the Black Coat Officer a side bag and a black pistol. Opinions?

VERY VERY VERY good information! I have found that when you call them, it makes it way easier to tell them what set it is in. I will see what I find. I have a big order to place with them in a week anyways. A VERY big thank you for that info!

Oh!... I didn't know that. I will do that for sure then. Question then, I have some town pieces like road baseplates, boat hulls, and other various items that in no way I am going to be able to use for my blue mega-port. Can I post them somewhere on here? Or just put them on Ebay? As for ebay bidding, I usually bid on everything without bids or that is very low, and I win maybe 5% of the time. That way, I still get the deals. -

First off, I have plenty of blue coats as well. AS WELL AS... colonial militia! I bet you don't have a backup force of drunken farmers with guns? Yeah, thats what I thought. Second off, I know it didnt go that high. It will still below my calculated price index... But bricklink just took me to the cleaners, so I wasn't as "manly" as I normally am on Ebay. -
Oh man... I just couldn't! Especially one that nice! My problem is that I build something, and then those parts are gone forever to me.... Makes it harder to build, you know?

That is so VERY VERY cool!

Who broadcast those two Renegade Runners from EBAY on classic-pirates.com? I thought I was going to get away with those... BUT NOT NOW!!!! -
Im taking some SMALL inspiration from my home town of South Haven, MI USA. I have taken a general interest in the naval battles of the great lakes in the war of 1812. We also have a replica tall ship in our port, so sooner or later I will have to make a MOC of that too. One more time, way to go, VERY nice port! One question, with a project like this, using so much raw materials, will you keep it assembled? Or will you disasemble it when you make something else? -Super

I would probably buy four or five of them. It would be a glorious day indeed. Anyone have any idea what the next build contest might be? I prefer the ones where there are different sizes.

WOW WOW WOW So very cool! I am more of a port builder myself, so this looks awesome!

In the mean time I took a break from being retarded and figured it out on my own. They are from the Indiana Jones sets, right? I already have ten on the way for the victorious forces of the blue nation!!!

Well I dont know why we cant start calling LEGO and harrasing them? If they are serious about bringing the pirate line back, blue baseplates are a must. The only disturbing thing I have noticed about the new pirate line is that there are no baseplates at all. Anyone else find that odd?

I like both, very nice! I am also very impressed with the new torso! I have also in the past used the pirate captain torso as a military uniform. BIG QUESTION: Where is everyone getting the ammo pouches from?! I think they look way better than backpacks! Let me know!!!

Update, I went on craigslist today, and among "buying lego" posts, i found one about legos for sale. I got three boxes of them for $20! SCORE! It happened right after I read your article. BE PROUD! -
Well I might as well let the cat out of the bag. I am building the port I always wanted as a kid, trying to assimilate as many original sets into one port (and make it look right) as possible. I also planning on submitting to the design contests from here on out, and the adding my creations to this port, kinds like a showcase of my work? It is big, very big.

I appreciate the other angle. Unfortunetly, I am somewhat "committed" to doing it the difficult way. I just bought another 13 32 X 32 blue baseplates. I already have about 20. Yeah, I know that is a lot of area. I'll put up pictures as progress continues! -Martin

For those who are undergoing BIG harbor projects, we all know how expensive blue basepleates are! I tried calling LEGO, no go! Does anyone have a good source for blue baseplates? Maybe we should petitioning LEGO to start making them again? -Martin

I appreciate it! I have come of the the LEGO closet, and have started posting about it on my Facebook. The response is actually quite amazing. I saw we LEGO folks are the majority, not the minority. -Martin

95% of my loose items are from garage sales. When I was a kid, maybe EVERY OTHER garage sale had at least a few LEGOs at them. I remember one time my mom spent $40 (which was a lot back then), but I got several boxes of LEGOs including maybe 7 or 8 BIG space sets. I didn't care what they were, the parts were priceless to me. I still watch garage sales like a hound, but you are dead on when you say that Craigs List has been combed through and over run. I put ads out anyway, just in case. I havent had any luck with it though. -Martin -
Funny you say that, my sig-fig is now a blue admiral who USED to be a pirate. Its his weapon of choice too. Maybe they served together in the orient at one time? LOL. -Martin
