  1. I actually find it quite amusing that people are coming up with these "apps" for the bar codes. Lego had a good idea to have the figs hidden in the packaging. It surely increased speculation and I'm sure they will be in higher demand because of it. Are people that worried they might get a double?! Oh No! More for the collection! I am buying a case, so maybe I have a different view on this, but if I wasn't, the randomness is what makes it fun. Did anyone ever by hockey cards? You never knew what was inside.......and that was the best part! On a side note, I agree with the theory that some stores will have these behind/close to the cash to deter theft.
  2. I have heard that a complete case includes 60 figures. And within that case there are 3 complete sets. So 48 figs in the case will be for the sets, and then there will be 12 random minifigs left. All in all, there are definitely 3 of each Minifig in a case. If you aren't buying a whole case, knowing what bar code is for which fig is good to know. The only problem is, the bar code does not have numbers on the bottom, so unless you have a scanner, it might be hard to differentiate.
  3. I think the Canadian release is around July. What I've heard from a Canadian Ambassador is that it is unknown which toy stores will be carrying them.....I would think TRU and other Lego specialty stores will stock them as there seems to be a lot of people/collectors wanting them. Price around $3 Cdn with 60 figs per case.
  4. A couple of questions for Karto. I have a whack of pieces I need to get white again, and by reading some of these posts it seems as easy as finding some 100 volume (30%) H202. All I would do is put it in a strong container with the pieces, and they should turn white again over time? Have you done multiple pieces at a time? And What do you do with the liquid after you are done cleaning the parts? Do you keep it or discard? Sorry for all the questions, but getting my parts back to white this way seems better than spending a ton of $$$ on Bricklink. Thanks for the help.
  5. I can't wait for these to get to shelves. I think I am going to just buy a whole box, and whatever doubles I get, will sell or trade off. By buying the whole box, you know you are at least getting the whole run of the series. I would like to have the complete series, and wouldn't like paying a ridiculous amout on BL for rare minifigs.... I also like the fact of not seeing what you get. One, for the fact that the rare ones will fly off the shelves, and the not-so-rare ones will stay and collect dust, and two, it adds to the joy of opening each package not knowing what is inside. It's all about being a kid again this way!
  6. Nice ships! What a cool find. A MOC means My Own Creation, meaning its not a set, but a model built with the use of many pieces. Enjoy them. I know I would!
  7. Sweet Oden's Raven! Not my first pick, but hey......
  8. Great idea! There are so many sites I have never even heard of before so it's all good. Another LUG you can add is ParLUGment in Ottawa, Canada. Another category that might be usefull is Where to Buy with a list of stores. Thanks for this.
  9. I was sorting my issues the other day and noticed I am missing some copies. Besides the page on Wikipedia, is there a list somewhere where you can see all the covers and what is in each issue? Also, has anyone gotten back issues from Lego direct? If so how far back? Cheers.
  10. A neat story and article. Thanks for sharing!
  11. Thanks for the review. I have had this set in my hands ready to buy many times and know I just might go for it. I think the price is a little steep as well. Its $15 here in Canada. Might wait for a sale to happen. Cheers.
  12. This sure cheered up my night shift haha! I should do that with my tow trucks Thanks Siegfried!
  13. Here are a few: 4x4x3.5 barrel: And I think I speak for everybody with this one
  14. Some criminals..... To bring up the Insurance thing again, I think most people should check it out. When I was in school, my collection was at my parents place and for me to add insurance on my collection, it did not increase the amount my father paid every year. It was just added to the policy as a collection. I think it's definately something to look into you you have a larger quantity or a lot of expensive sets.
  15. I don't understand why you would throw a set out because you a missing one piece. There is really no reason for it thanks to sites like Bricklink. Just curious, but how many sets have you thrown out? I will gladly send you my address and pay for shipping if you are parting with any more. I really can't wrap my head around this..... As for the purist thing, I have a few sets that I have not mixed with my collection, 5571 being one and 10000 being another, but that is because I cherish those sets alot. Maybe becuase they were hard to get, I don't know. I just like them complete. For the minifigs, the fun part is mixing them around, making different characters that you know would never come in a regular set. I think the whole fun is digging into a giant pile of Lego and not knowing what you are going to find. That is the joy in the toy!
  16. If you are coming to Mississauga, go to Lasting Toys too. They are just a Lego retailer. They have sets from this year, and older sets, some 10-15 years old! I am actually surprised that people don't know about this place.....
  17. There are a few other stores where you can find Lego at as well: Lasting Toys in Mississauga London Toy Shoppe in London, Ont. Miss Tiggy Winkles stores in the Ottawa area Winners (haven't seen much there lately, but sometimes get lucky) I was in the Square One Zellers in Mississauga and they were stacked with all the new 2010 sets. One whole aisle. The Loblaws near me has hardly anything. The new Tow Truck is there but it is $21.99! And I would think there are more than 2 employees at Lego Canada
  18. Interesting topic. For me, it all depends how much is going on in life. When I was in school, I didn't have 95% of my collection with me, so didn't use the little I did have. Now that schools done, I reunited with my collection and have it with me at my new place. When I have a day off, I could spend 5 or 6 hours dinking around sorting or building MOCs. Sometimes I don't touch it for a week. I find that if you don't fiddle with Lego everyday, its better in the long run. It's nice to crack open a set that you forgot you had and build it. I guess the time spent is different with everyone, but a break is always good as it make you enjoy the hobby that much more.
  19. That screams originality! Nice vignette and I hope the newyweds enjoy the gift. Now if we could just get a nice side view of that vespa..............
  20. Thanks for the review. I was able to scratch this off my wanted list a few years back. Won it on eBay for around $2 I think. It's definately a great classic add to the collection!
  21. Nice shots! I totally forgot I owned that Service Station and now might build it on a day off. The Tanker fits very well with the set. The Repair Truck and Tanker are definately on the want list haha. Thanks for sharing!
  22. For me, it was the 8421 Mobile Crane, and I think it was also my longest build at around 7 hours. I don't think it was that hard of a build, but it was my first pneumatic set, so took my time more than anything. Cheers.
  23. Wow what a great thread! It's nice to see other peoples storage system and ideas, as it helps to make your own better. My system right now is pretty good. A mix of totes and storage bins, along with binders for instructions. Once I buy a house, I will have my own room dedicated to my Lego, so I will have a lot more room. I have close to 500 sets, and around 85,000 pieces. All but around 10 sets have been sorted, (keeping the 8421 and 8285 together for show of course!) so that's an awful pile ot Lego! Most of my collection is sorted by piece, not color. Here are some pics of what I have going right now: This is the shelf unit one of my friends managed to grab from TRU when he worked there. Worked out great for the smaller totes! I have 8 storage bins that have worked out well. One bin is for angle pcs, two for car and vehicle parts, one for minifig parts and accessories, one for hinges and plates, etc. The Lego contianers hold: minifigs, 1 wide bricks, and odd plates and pcs (like snowboard halfpipe and NBA Arena parts) Totes contain either parts, or sets. Most of my Technic sets I have taken apart and put in a tote. Some totes have 1 set, some have multiple. The 4 sliding drawers are sorted by 2 wide plates up to 2x6, another for longer plates, one for pilars, and the last for plates over 8 wide. And instructions. Binders work well for most. I have the big books in full page sleeves and smaller books in 4x6 pictures album holders (works great!) The oddly shaped books I am still trying to find what to do with them..... Thats it! I will one day have all the Technic sorted my piece as well, but need a couple more storage bins. Cheers!
  24. Looking good! I can't wait for this to hit shelves here in Canada. The set looks great so thanks for the pics. And I feel if the Limo was 6-wide, it would look to "big" being stretched out. The 4 wide looks more to the right size.
  25. That is an amazing layout! Great job on the City scape. I can't wait until I have the room to put something together like that. 95% of my Lego is sorted and stored. Keep the updates coming dude!
