Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces
cptkent replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I've received my tracking order - I'll post an update when I receive my box. For what it's worth (I'm not sure which order things get processed in), I am kickstarter #25, and have ordered both metal and ABS -

I've noticed that, on the Me Models Facebook page, they have another product update and may be shipping soon. If anybody has a contact at Me Models (I can't get my email acknowledged) or if Me Models are reading this, PLEASE double check with the backers before you ship ANYTHING. Some backers may have changed address. Others (myself included) will not be about in the new year if they ship soon. I'm worried that, after the wait, that they will ship and some porch pirate will steal my goods because I'm not home to receive them. Anyway - they wait may nearly be over - a happy new year may await. -
Thanks. Yes the kids made a mess of it, but I only see them every few years so I wasn't too worried. And the trains need a run - that's why I built a layout. The lego is on polystyrene on MDF. You can't tell from this photo, as I have it set down at a lower level so the kids could reach it, but it usually sits up on the table in the background, and when I remove the taller buildings it can all fold up flat against the wall if required. Most of the time I just stack one 1/2 on another, which saves space, but still lets me get access.

Well, not really a Christmas train setup - just a setup that come together for Christmas. I've been working on the layout for ages, but this is the first time it's been together in its entirety. I had a Christmas deadline as my Nieces and Nephews were visiting. What you see is the what remains after they had an afternoon playing with it! It's a modular layout, so from here on I can leave it packed up (it folds away), and remove individual modules as I want to work on them. Each module is a polystyrene board, holding 4 grey base plates in a row. My plans for the future are to restore it to it's pre-nephew state (it was a little more intact) and then work on each module in turn, developing the town, country, port, etc as I get to them. The track arrangement is largely settled, though about 1/3 of it will be replaced with larger radius Me-Models curves, in metal, should they ever arrive. Unfortunately they didn't make it in time for this Christmas, but it will be easy enough to upgrade if they ever arrive, and that will free up some other track for a couple of shunting yards. Outer loop is 9volt, inner track is regular plastic. Merry Christmas to you all.

I appreciate your efforts and look forward to receiving my rewards when shipped. Thanks for sticking at it. I've been lookitforward to it for a while. -
Very nice. I initially looked at using Arduino, but found it a little more work for me (only because im not that familiar with it) than I wanted, and I wasn't sure about how it would scale to do multiple switches (I'm sure it would, if you knew what you were doing!) My solution (that you saw here) isn't quite as elegant, but should be compact and sufficient when I get it running. Arduino may be the best option for creating some kind of track layout / point display board, which I would love. I figure, having installed the point servos and wiring, I can always scale up to that, from my manual dial control, in the future if I feel the need. The only thing that would change is the controller. Regards

Any updates from anyone? I can get emails answered (I enqured through a new email address) but no response otherwise . -
The servos are these: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272426941306?ul_noapp=true The come as a pair, so about $8au each. I'm using these because they are 'linear', so a little more compact.

Hi all, I've been playing with some ideas for remotely switching my tracks. Here's a link to the 'proof of concept' mockup I've made of my progress to date. It's very much cobbled together, but I think it will work on my layout, to give me remote access to distant points. Its not a 'pure' lego solution, but it's unobtrusive and relatively cheap. This requires modification of: - The point (to remove the 'click' when the track gets switched - there's too much resistance for a small servo to overcome). - The lego 'cupboard' (to fit a small servo inside, and cut a hole in the door.) I tried modifying a small brick, but the servo was just a fraction too wide. The cupboard seems to work well. The only wiring visible in the final layout will be three very small wires running from the cupboard. I'll put together something more detailed once I have a version installed and running, if anyone is interested.

Yes, there has been an update to the project on the Kickstarter project timeline. Backers should receive an email on this, others can visit the kickstarter page. I still hold out hope, and look forward to receiving what promises to be an excellent product, but my earlier comments still stand. (In the meantime, I did have to crack open 6, mint condition, boxes of 4515-1 (straight rails) that I'd been saving. I need to finish a project by Christmas, and can't wait any longer. -

I've tried to contact them a few times recently via email, but have not had a reply. It's all a little disappointing: I backed metal rails originally on Kickstarter. I hoped to receive something related to my pledge, but didn't expect it, that's what Kickstarter is about. After 26 months of scattered updates, I received an email stating that delivery was imminent. Yahoo. Foolishly (as I'd not seen anything in the way of product to this point in time) I gave extra to extend my order. I tripped my original expenditure. 4 months after I last sent funds, for an imminent order, I have yet to have received anything, and am not aware of any metal-rail backers receiving anything. They are not responding to my emails. Now you can all read into that what you want. I didn't want to write this, but I'm not getting any response through their email, and nobody is getting any answers through their Kickstarter page. I appreciate they probably have ongoing problems, but their lack of communication is disconcerting. But I feel this is worth writing for anyone out their wondering what's going on, thinking of purchasing, or adding to an additional purchase. I'd happily retract all the above if I ever receive anything. So - long story short - I can't offer any updates. Happy if you feel the need to PM me (Eurobrick members, or anybody from Me Models). -

I added extra to my Kickstarter pledge after the recent communications. Getting a little nervous I've not heard anything since. But trying real hard to keep the faith.
