  1. Oooh, seeing all this violence amidst the Peace proclamations of PTV II just makes me wanna cry... That aside though - your building style is stunning as ever, SlyOwl. My favourite detail? The trails behind / around vessels in the water! That is so typically you - such neat details add so much to your MOCs!
  2. The net looks like a perfect addition to this one, and the new/ revised fishing bait also looks much better - at least to me ;) However, I can't really get it - what's the Admiral's helmet doing on top of the Pirate Captain's rod - have you tried just placing that on the ground, next to the barrel? By the way, the effect of water splashing against the quay is very nice, kudos for that! One last thing I'd suggest is trying to add a slight curve to the trunk of that palm tree... It would make this MOC's setup look a bit more dynamic, because the way it is now it just reinforces the feeling of a horizontal line (tree) meeting a vertical line (the beach). In any case, a very nice entry - best of luck in the contest!
  3. Brilliant! Gotta run now, but I'll check out all the details once I get back home... All I can say for now is that if this one weren't so mundane (riiiight) and/or had KimT's running around the place, it would make a brilliant Christmas diorama like the ones they sell in Department 56, especially with (and mostly because of) the subway below. Oh well. Guess I'm slowly starting to get that Christmas mood, just in time for it to wear off the night _before_ Christmas, as usual. Anyway. Will be back, to rant more. For now - luv it! Edit: Took out the "you're so brilliant I almost hate you" part. Figured not everyone would enjoy my idiotic sense of humour :P
  4. Revenge is sweet - literally, with this orange colour scheme Hopefully, the ghost of the engineer will have mercy ;] Great MOC!
  5. That, if it becomes reality, would be lovely! The monorail itself can indeed go "up and down", so it can also be implemented at street level, but I get your point there and it would add a bloody awesome new twist to LEGO transportation. P.S.: Matt, unfortunately you're so very right about what you said regarding common sense :] At the end of the day though, I guess we won't be seeing a rework of the 6399 Airport Shuttle or anything resemblant in that size soon, since LEGO already have quite a few expensive sets out there and with the abundance of Exclusives next year I'd expect them to rather focus on mid-range sets...
  6. Well, since the question is asked that way - I personally would go for both, of course! Without an actual ground track, we wouldn't be able to include trains in our setups, which would be a crying shame. Aside from having to miss out on the likes of the Santa Fe Super Chief or the Emerald Night (which by itself is a tragedy :P), that would also mean no freight being hauled by the BNSF & co. along the rails of LEGO cities - and the industrial element that ground tracks add is so important to any city! That said, I can imagine how most of you guys with large tabletowns really feel the need for an elevated rail. It's not only practical and space-saving, it's also an instant eye-catcher. I personally would love to have an elevated railway in our town someday, however I've recently started wondering whether that would all not look a bit too much! I'm planning on adding a tram circling the streets of our town and seeing as I love trams so much, I will most definitely add that ground-rail-based means of transportation. I will also have more ground railway transport going on and with that, having a monorail just might seem a bit too much... But then again, who am I fooling. We all love Monorail to bits, me included. So if LEGO were ever to release another Monorail set, I'd snatch it straight away (especially knowing that I'd have to pay hundreds and hundreds of EUR in order to obtain one of those legendary 6399 Airport Shuttle sets). Even if the design were not that good (which I doubt, given the "return" of good City sets), just having those coveted elevated railway pieces would totally be worth it!
  7. First of all, welcome to Eurobricks and Classic-Pirates, shmails! What a lovely way to make your introduction to the forum - this one is definitely an instant favourite of mine in the Medium Category! I really enjoyed the innovative idea and of course, the fact that I didn't need to read one word of your presentation in order to know what's going on there - even though it's pretty zany! Your subtle use of 1x1 round trans-clear plates to add the sense of action to this MOC is brilliant - especially combined with that priceless expression of the cabin boy who was heading the race before slipping up there... As Tereglith pointed out, the sheer amount of minifigs makes this one feel very real and it looks just as if it were an actual action-packed crazy event - which it is precisely . The additional elements you've added to the entry however also add a lot to it - both the simple yet brilliant-looking fence on the left (your right :P) and the curved flagpole. You also haven't failed to include the element of cheating, with one pirate captain trying to blow off a cabin boy's head - not sounding the violence bells there, I'm just noting that all those little detais you've included are indeed brilliant and _very_ noticable, which is great! Regarding any addition ideas for this MOC - I'd just suggest adding a yellow 2 x 2 round tile to the cheese there in order to make it look even more "round". And the captains in the "stands" look like they could use some additional incentive to cheer on their cabin boys even more - how about adding a small betting scene in the background (most suitably, in the shades beneath the palm tree!) and having some coins exchanging ownership? That should look like a nice addition! Even without those (or any!) additions though, this one is, as I said, a prime contender in my point of view. Best of luck in the competition and I hope to see more MOCs from you soon :] Enjoy your stay here on EB!
  8. You've made some veeery subtle changes to this entry , but I still think this one needs some more work. For starters, replacing "apples" with "candy" and just going along with it doesn't seem to be the best idea to me. Besides, using candy to lure that Governor just looks a bit too... how to say... childish & unrealistic. But then again most of this year's entries are unrealistic and that's the good thing about them, so as long as you're happy with the idea, you should go with it. However, those red 1x1 round plates are supposed to be the focal point of this MOC - seeing as they are the actual trail - regardless whether it's a trail of candy or apples. So instead of using simple pieces which can't be defined as anything specific at first sight, I'd definitely suggest replacing those - now that the captain is not into apples anymore, that idea about using actula apples is void, but you could still try out some different and more "rare" pieces to find out the ones that look really well there. "Candy", per se, has nothing generic about it and could be anything - from sugar sticks to little pieces of packaged chocolates, so why not experiment a bit there? Apples or candy, those 1x1 round pieces just don't add anything to this MOC...
  9. I agree - it's a mystery to me how you've managed to add so many details and functionality in an LDD model! I'm sure even more ideas will start coming to your mind once you get around to building it with actual bricks... not that this one is short of ideas! This is a great vehicle; I've always wondered how an actual realistic car which could hold four minifigs would look and what its scale would be -- now I know! Awesome job :)
  10. What a wonderful idea Brickster! Unfortunately, I can't really contribute with any tips or useful pieces of knowledge, but I strongly suggest indexing and adding all bridge-related MOCs to this thread - that should give us a perfect overview of how it's done! These two bridge-related entries from last month's Train Tech Contest could be a good start The Train Bridge / Viaduct by Nagy László and rickbrick's Railway Into the Unknown
  11. Almost forgot I had a new title (wishful thinking :P) : Mischievous, Small & Impatient Mutt. The "Impatient Mutt" part remains, I guess as an homage to Hinck's wisdom in giving me that title, while "Mischievous & Small" were presumably added by KimT in a gesture of appreciation after I called him a mischievous animal-torturing Santa and went on to profess that Scruffy was a freakishly large, strong and talkative dog... Yes, I know, I had it coming
  12. Hey Jansued, as I pointed out already, I dont't think that the fact you can't tell it's a dentist straight away is such a huge problem. Obviously, neither of us has been to a dentist a few centuries ago, so it's only fair we would have absolutely no image in our heads to go along with that. Your tooth-pulling torture chamber does look pretty nice (even thought that sounds sadistic here) as it is, and that picture you've provided goes to show that it also bears a significant resemblance to actual dentist's "offices" from back in those days. I actually loved all of the details which underline this one's true "dentist" nature, such as the tooth drilling machine you've created using that whip and the patient's chair - the use of the shield there is great and so is the inclusion of a spitting bowl. So if I were you, I wouldn't worry about that too much. One thing that could probably help this MOC become more recognizable would be trying to keep it in uniform colours. For example, if you could, I'd suggest replacing the red tap piece with a brown one and using brown 1x1 round pieces instead of the dark red ones in the pillars. Other than that, I also think that a photo showing a close-up of the patient and the captain at work without the actual pillar would work very nicely.
  13. ...or you could always try 5-wide, if you've got enough jumpers lying around (Hinck used to be the main 5-wide agitator around these parts, so now that he's not around as often I thought I'd replace him:) ) Seriously though, 6-wide is just too big for regular-sized cars. While it's perfectly fine for lorries and such, it's just not the right scale for cars when placed alongside a CC-compatible (or any other, for that matter) building.
  14. Lovely! I actually really like that roof, it's a nice touch! A very American-looking building, at least to me - which should look great next to the Cafe Corner! Any chance of getting a few pics of the interior?
  15. Hey JanSued, now that's probably going to be one of the most painful entries in this year's contest - and with good reason too! As Martin said there, the entire MOC is pretty much reminiscent of a 16th century torture chamber rather than a dentist's office. The thing is, most people DO recognize their dentists as modern era torturers, so the connotations there are pretty spot on, I must say! What I really enjoyed about this one was the use of the patched-up shark. Having that poor fella serviced by the self-proclaimed Dentist and then showing him off as an advertisement of sorts is a bloody (!) good idea in my point of view. Oh, and the anaesthetic devices are also... erm... how shall I put it... pretty adequate! Choosing a face for the captain with a mouth which lacks a tooth is pretty ironic too. If there's one thing missing here, it's the tooth fairy - or is that the captain's wife? :) The only thing I wasn't thrilled about here was the quality of pictures provided. They all look a bit grainy and I'm not entirely sure what has caused that - but perhaps trying a different resolution might work? What program are you using to edit those - since I believe most photo editing apps offer a variety of options to enhance photo quality... For example, have you tried using a despeckle filter to remove noise from the pictures? A painfully hilarious entry! I wish you best of luck in the contest with that one :)
  16. Thanks for you kind words mate I would really have loved to actually build something - but the fact is, we've currently got 1/3 of the Town Plan, the Cafe Corner, the Toy Store and 1/2 of the Dwarves Mine just stashed in a cabinet and waiting for us both to get some time off... Been chasing quite a few deadlines these last few months, hence the total lack of MOCs. At least EB is a nice break when sitting in front of the PC 24/7. Can't complain though - at least that way we'll have more to build with once we do get a break. So unfortunately, I'll have to pass on the Ghost Train build, even though I had an idea in my head about a Spooky Shunter with a small Haunted Depot / Shed. In any case, it's tons of fun seeing all these GTE builds and I can't wait for the end of the month to see your setup in its entirety.
  17. I had actually never ever seen that set Guess that must have been sometime during my dark ages... Anyway, what's next, a crate overflowing with pumpkins?
  18. Ooooooh I love your mental powers! What do we have to do to evoke more of those! P.S.: Window washer in a lift!!! The concept reminds me of Raplh_S' construction works on his Georgian Houses! Can you guys imagine just how cool that would look in an official set... I knew there was a reason why I felt this set would be SO great ;)
  19. Who needs realism when you've got C-P members whacking each other Ratshot - your sigfig would have been the main culrpit here, so you could have included it as a God of sorts P.S.: This is yet another occasion on which I regret not having made me a sigfig. I'm off to rectify that error now :) Perhaps then I could also be included in some brawl
  20. +3 (yes, three) for emilec. He's just sent to me a Cafe Corner, Toy Store and a Pirates Advent Calendar. Beside being such a nice guy, he's also helped me out with information regarding packaging & postage fees AND gone through the trouble of custom-sorting and packaging the sets so that they would fit within two regular parcels. Thank you, Emile, this has quite possibly been my most pleasant Internet transaction ever. I would really love to deal with you again soon
  21. Wow, that must have cost a fortune in cargo insurance Where do you get these ideas anyway, Brickster! Another wonderful MOC, you're definitely the man setting up the proper Halloween mood here on EB :)
  22. A warm welcome from me too, lgorlando, your modulars are brilliant, it's always nice to have around huge fan of the Modulars around, especially when they produce such great MOCs! Hope you enjoy your stay with us ;]
  23. We'll be revisiting that once we find some more spare time; now that we've got a few modular sets it's high time we made sure it complies with the standard, so generally it's going to be completely overhauled. One thing's for sure though, we're sticking with the yellow/white colour scheme (and the seashells / creeping ivy :P) As to 10211, I have this weird tingling sensation that tells me this set is really going to be awesome. The choice of architectural era looks spot on and there's no doubt in my mind Jamie & Co.'s take on a modular building such as the one depicted above would be absolutely fabulous. For the first time, I'm not even that eager to see the pics, I just know this set is going to be great!
  24. Yeah, but can you imagine how much we'd whine then!!! Besides, who's to say that if the Modulars went on a hiatus, they would ever return? *shudder at the thought!* As to the colours - why are you guys being so hard on bright colours used for modular houses? I personally think that those can add a lot of depth of variety if used appropriately... Our Flower Shop was in yellow and I'd absolutely love to build a reddish (classic red, that is) modular house sometime later on!
  25. Aww, makes me wish I was a member of the classic-pirates team, this one. Loving the mayhem, it reminds me of the South Park episode when Obama won My only question here is -- where's the Rat(shot)? As to C&C - I think it's fairly obvious how much I enjoyed seeing this entry. I love the community feel of Classic-Pirates and Eurobricks in general and it's MOCs such as this one that portray that feeling so nicely! I'm not even going to try to criticize this one in any way - it does what it sets out to in an absolutely wonderful way and you sure did put a smile on my face. Wonderful idea mate :) Best of luck in the contest!
