Would you like to see Bionicle expanded into SPACE??
Darkness Falls replied to johnsocal's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Ignoring that post... ^^ We get it, you're hardcore. Anyway, I think, for Bionicle to top this year, they're gonna have to go into space. -
Phantoka is based off of Phantoms, chief. How come nobody realized he was misspelling Fantasy? EDIT: Eh, it's not a problem. I think it's clear that the sides of the canisters are, in fact, the Ignika.

I was going by the definition which all of you seemed to relate to, I.E. a tacked on shooter, etc. But okay, if you want to go back on your own opinion, that's cool. I got Antroz and his Matoran today. I've got to say, even when empty, the torsos look pretty good. Antroz looks fantastic, I've got no complaints... and his Matoran is a cute little add-on and a fair figure on its own, as well.

Sorry, my brain hurts from the sheer stupidity of half of the posts in this topic. Keep in mind, Grevious, that I'm not talking about you. First off, this isn't a gimmick. It's much more a function than a gimmick. The entire body works around this idea... and is that not the same idea that the Toa Mata, Bohrok, Nuva, and Rahkshi had in common? The Piraka, Barraki, Inika... they all had gimmicks. The Phantoka Makuta are no different from the specific Toa Mata bodies, and trust me, those bodies, just like those of the Phantoka, are NOT useless parts. My two cents. Complain about the Phantoka Nuva... THEY have gimmicks.

Ha... for more than just that. They make great crystal balls, and the variety of colors creates a good mood for any sort of naturalistic environ or MoC. If you can integrate those babies in, they're fantastic parts!

I've got to admit, Makuta's "I am Nothing" monologue was one of the best moments in Bionicle, hands-down. However, Makuta, in my opinion(to respect you, Helden), has not become a scheming villain. In fact, I think he's become a much more respectable character, examples being Time Trap and Prisoners of the Pit. While being dropped from his "mythic god" status, he shows a rational and drive that is almost commendable, if it had been used for good. Time Trap made him what he is now- a sort of sadistic character with a cruel outlook on life. You've got to admit, the spirit of Makuta was kept up until 2004- his utter control of the Metru-nui situation was very fantastic, indeed. But Makuta was given a realistic twist, especially when you had the Dark Hunters up against him. The DH seemed hard to kill in 2004, but when you apply their strength to that of Makuta, you see they have no hope. Prisoners of the Pit showed that Makuta was totally used to failure at the hands of the Toa, and that he was taking it into his own hands. He may have not been an all-encompassing evil, but that's hard to do when you've got a robot for a body. Got more to say... mayhap I'll bring it up tomorrow.

He doesn't love Bionicle. He loves it for what it was- not what it is. And that's perfectly fine. However, if, each year, you're going to protest the same stuff... it gets old, eh? And I'm only interested in one, perhaps two sets of this year. They are the only one's I would buy, unlike 2006-07, where I was open to most of the designs. No more. It's either unique, or it's a Toa Inika with a new mask and tool.

Who wouldn't? The Bahrag were probably the pinnacle of set design and function.

EUROBRICKS...? THIS IS SPARTA! Sorry, couldn't resist. And... I faintly remember Greg saying the Titans were going to be "Master Builder" quality... To that I say, "HA." Bionicle has always been about introducing a concept with canister sets and then taking that concept to a new level via the Titans. Unfortunately, these past three years have had a problem... there is not new concept to be found. This year, they take something interesting-like the trydax pods- and they destroy the idea by integrating it into the titans. Instead of getting sets like the Bahrag, which took the concept introduced by the Bohrok to a whole new level, we get sets like these. HA.

Okay, I know this is going to sound weird, but try to keep up. Besides the ridiculous smiling faces and new heads(that were only used for that year), I actually enjoyed 2006 and its storyline. I mean, I had given up on collecting sets of six because of the clone disease, but I liked grabbing some of them. More pieces were introduced which forced I and other builders to approach a MoC in a new manner. The Titans, while being overly centered around torso pieces, had impressive builds. The storyline was a welcome change from 2005. Greg opened up a whole new world to us, instead of isolating the activity in Metru and Mata nui. I found Dark Destiny to be one of the most pleasant surprises of the book series in a long time, and(here's where is gets kind of weird) I was very impressed with the characterization of the Piraka. While all of them were snippy, violent thieves, each had a very interesting motive and backstory. Of course, there were downsides. The Toa Inika were an uncharacterized lot, and set building was very dull. But if you look at the positives and negatives, the former greatly outweighs the latter. Plus, I think the great thing about 2006 was that they took its failures and compensated for them the next year. 2007 is even greater, but it wouldn't have been if we hadn't complained about everything that was wrong with 2006. Then again, perhaps it would have. I feel that we need to reflect on something a year after it has come out, to see how it compares to the next year. Only then can we see how much things have changed.

Apologies. However, it doesn't change the fact that the majority of people here, and on BZP, who hate these sets wish they could go back to the "old days". And... interesting points made by Visorak Kal's Greg quote. Sadly true.

Actually, I agree.

I've read the newest Gali Nuva Blog and Dreams of Destruction. I must say, if all the books were written like this, I'd be much more enticed. Karzahni against Makuta, with Karzahni backed by hundreds of Manas. Fantastic. And a new corrupt member of the Brotherhood. Interesting. -
The two claws on the side are probably pushed together to pop it out, or there's some sort of Zamor-esque function on their back.

Would you like some cheese with that whine? All of you guys are so bitter. "2001-2003 was the best years of Bionicle EVAR!" Grow up. The focus group of Bionicle has changed, and so Bionicle must as well. Personally, I think it's interesting how they can come up with so many different types of ammunition from 2004-2008, but I'm not saying I like it. You need to take the good with the bad, though I guess in your case it would just be the bad. Never launch the pod if you hate them so much, or make a "better" modification which I'm sure you and Darth Vader will try. Hell, you'll most likely succeed, but you're not working at Lego and calling the shots, and even if you were, there's no way they'd allow as many pieces as DV uses in a ten dollar set.

Truly a battle in the sky. The first spread is quite possibly the best thing I've seen since 2003. The characters have no "I'm Badass" grin on their face, but heralds that are nothing without them. The Phantoka are not creatures of gangster-esque look or aquatic nightmares, but seem, well, creepy. Each has a unique build and awesome wings. Chirox looks fantastic, as does Antroz. Vamprah is the only set of the bunch I'm hesitant about. As for the Toa Nuva... wow. Faithful representations for an updated look. Kopaka looks great! Pohatu may be different colored, but his stocky build is reminiscent of the old, and his mask does remind me of the 2001 look. I can't wait.

Reidak: Never defeated the same way twice? Zaktan: Made of protodites, can swarm, attacks go through him... May I list more? -
<.< >.> I too, would like to be a part of this epic list.

The Piraka were given powers that a virtually unstoppable. No wonder they were never really defeated. -
Wow. Two pages of absolute crap. By the way, remember what I was saying about pictures of the entire catalog? They'd be nice.

Transformers has been around for twenty years. Bionicle? Nope.

Well, SOME of the Piraka, I should say. Motives were very well defined. As for your Karzahni comment... he was portrayed with a much more loose grip on his sanity and much more sadistic, as well. -

Anywho, I've heard a lot of people say they have a problem with the storyline and writing of Bionicle: Legends. I slightly agree with this, but for different reasons. Greg seems to have a great idea as to what villains should be, and I say this because, every year, he comes up with a new set of them. In doing so, he approaches villains with a different view. We've had leaders of a horde, thieves, warlords... all unique professions, and Greg has developed them as such. However, when it comes to creating new persona from old characters, he slacks a bit. Last year's Inika were poorly developed, while the history and character of the Piraka were so in-depth you could have made them the focus. The Toa Mahri are an improvement, but with the constant witty remarks made by half of them you don't discover much about their personalities. Meanwhile, the Barraki have well-defined, dangerously quiet appearances. The only impressive Toa-character-work I've seen was in 2004, but when 2005 appeared, they became a bit dull. I can truthfully say that Makuta and Karzahni have been the best thing out of the past two years so far. The only thing to look forward to in Legends is probably the villains, or how Greg creates conspiratorial back stories to events happening in the year to come. Toa? Not so much. -
Okay, when was it said that Chirox, Vamprah etc. were Makutas? If they are, then that is awesome news. Finally, villains I'm not sure the Toa Nuva can even compare to... that'd be a change. Oh, and if the Piraka ever come back, I want them beaten to a pulp. I don't ever want to hear another "devilish grin" reference in Greg's writing again.

What are we trying to look at, here? The fact that Mata Nui's going to die, but there's an even more emotional ending? Personally, I think The Toa Mahri are going to blow up the cord, causing all of the Mahri and Voya Nui matoran to die, only to realize that Mata Nui is dead already.
