Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Fallenangel replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Indeed. I used to have my ARC-170 displayed with open S-foils until I discovered one day that half of the pieces on my poor 7259 were cracked! And two of the three rubber bands that the 7259 came with have long since snapped. You have to be a bit careful when trying to preserve LEGO. -
This is starting to sound phony... I'm at least glad to hear that this new 'Republic Frigate' is a Consular. I had been expecting Padme's yacht, as many Clone Wars fans had been wanting one. (Ilum diorama anyone?) Now this is weird: a $350 (or $250, or whatever) LEGO set based on the NEO-CLONE WARS? That's more than the UCS Star Destroyer. And the MALEVOLENCE? That ship that got destroyed in the first season (which I actually watched before I lost my taste for the Neo-Clone Wars)? What is LEGO thinking? I mean, in the past most of the $100+ Star Wars sets were of very iconic, or at least easily recognizable, starships (even the LAAT/i counts as easily recognizable, though the AT-OT does not). The Malevolence isn't even a Providence cruiser, which would at least be slightly more familiar to Clone Wars fans (and which I thought it was when I watched the series) - it's some new cruiser called a Subjugator. And there's what, 15 minifigures? Just how big are they planning to make this? And just how do they intend to have it sell? Isn't anyone else here as incredulous as I am right now? When you think about it, LEGO is releasing two $200+ sets and probably another UCS set, but only ONE set based on the Original Trilogy - and given what I've heard of the Clone Wars, Ewok Attack might not be an Original Trilogy set either. Are they planning to blow us away with a Cloud City playset or just release a bunch of Original Trilogy stuff next year? It seems like 2011 will be quite a strange year for LEGO.
-
That's not funny. There's your throwback to the Original Trilogy for ya... EDIT: With Hero Factory and Toy Story, LEGO's really been going crazy with molds lately. Please LEGO redirect whatever extra money you have into set design or at least making battlepacks $10 again... no new hairpieces please... Still waiting for Anakin's yellow Eta-2 that was written out of the Wars... Yep. He's also a terribly obscure character - to the point that neither he nor the actor who played him was mentioned in the credits for Star Wars. So to answer your question ceroknight he really doesn't play much of a big 'roll'. Ewoks... it looks like LEGO is reusing molds again. Perhaps in the future LEGO will release a set based on the defense of Mon Calamari with manta droid subfighters and Kit Fisto? (Clone Wars Chapter 5 anyone?) Other than the Mon Calamari mold, it would also provide LEGO the opportunity to give us another Kit Fisto (shirtless, for those who are interested =D). Could everyone please not use so many acronyms? It's getting awfully hard to read.

The pylon should still be two studs wide so why can't you include the bracket? In this step just replace the 1x2 grey brick and the stack of plates in the center nearest the panel with two 1x2 bricks with axle holes and the 2x3 33 slope bricks on the top and bottom with 1x2 bricks. If you mount the brackets on the 1x2 bricks they will still be in the same position so they should fit. (Like I said, you just have to stress the brick a bit.) So make the axle longer... and besides, UCS sets aren't known for staying together well (other than the 10129 UCS Snowspeeder - but that model is messed up in the nose).
-
Why, thank you, Anio! You've made my day. As for the picture, how's this? (I used constrasting colors for visual clarity.) * Remove the 33 slope bricks on the top and bottom and replace the large wedge with the 1x3 33 slope brick on the side. I didn't look over the instructions in too much detail, so the arrangement with the 2x2 round plates (which is crucial) might not be completely compatible with your model. I saw the layer of grey plates on the inside of the panels in the new pictures you put up and assumed you could fit a plate with holes in between them. If you wish, I think you can also retain , just replace the 33 slope bricks with 1x2s so that they won't interrupt the shape of the pylon too much. (You have to stress the brick a bit to make the studs attach and retain the connection with the axle and the 2x2 round plates.) *No LEGO Star Wars sets were harmed in the making of this image, except for several owned by fallenangel327, which were horribly maimed.

This marks my 200th post. I've never posted on Eurobricks outside of LEGO Star Wars (with the exception of maybe one or two posts). As you've probably seen from some of my posts I'm a big fan of Star Wars and LEGO and I've been wanting a fan tag for a while now... Not only that, I've been here since January of '09 which means it's been nearly two years since I joined.

Seeing as both of the midi-scale sets had to be dropped from $40 to $25 it's possible that LEGO decided not to design any more.
-
About 3min in.

Whoever called these sets uninspired are right. This really does look like an assortment of random vehicles and starships... Dathomir speeder... as much as I would like it if LEGO made a set based on The Courtship of Princess Leia (and as much as some AFOLS would love rancor molds) it sounds like another Neo-Clone Wars set. Bummer. I'm just hoping that the Ewok Attack isn't a Neo-Clone Wars set as well... and I'm afraid that the "Millennium Falcon" will turn out to be some Neo-Clone Wars version of the Stellar Envoy involving some random episode with Anakin and Ahsoka and some aliens... However, I think the podracer sets were a good idea (they're like Star Wars-style race cars) so I'm glad to see LEGO is getting into that again. I wonder if this means we'll get the rest of the Boonta Eve racers? (Mars Guo perhaps?) The Republic Frigate also sounds promising. Another Consular cruiser sounds good to me - I just hope they make it longer to make it look more like the studio model.
-
I see from the new picture that part of the wing is three plates thick, which I think would be enough for a Technic axle. And you could also switch the large wedge pieces on the front and back of the wing pylons with 1x3 33 slope bricks to make the pylons appear thinner, as it does not look like they offer any structural support. The two red dots and the hexagon-shaped hole seen in this shot of the studio model. In-universe, the red points are the Twin Ion Engines, and the hexagonal hole is a rear viewport. I saw that they were absent on your model.
-
I agree. And what's more, I am increasingly convinced that they are making Neo-Clone Wars episodes without knowing what happened in the original Clone Wars (or having even watched the original Clone Wars, for that matter). And the new vehicle designs aren't even that creative. Delta-7B? It's a deformed Delta-7 with a full droid socket. I know one cruiser basically consists of a Consular's engines mashed onto a Venator's body. The 'Pelta' Frigate? Tore off the back of a Consular and added a hammerhead. T-6 shuttle? White Geonosis fanblade starfighter magnified x100. And I know I've seen something looking like the main body of the Twilight somewhere, I just can't remember where! Yup. Given the amount of new minifigures that AFOLs have been demanding of LEGO, I wouldn't be surprised if the other $200 came from new molds. That and the fact that LEGO might actually have put some effort into making sure the sets are accurately scaled and proportioned. *You all know I'm kidding about that last bit, right?

Are you praising my X-wing or his...?
-
Such is the fate of one with a small vocabulary... I haven't seen this before, but there are a few things I noticed straight off. Is there any particular reason you've got the cannons kind of hanging off of the ball cockpit like that? Because the guns on the studio model are much closer to the windshield (though not so much that they break the circle of the windscreen like the ones on the LEGO set). The wing pylons should be a bit thinner where they meet the panel; however, you've got them widening out again. Is this a structural issue? Because I think that a Technic axle running all way through the other side of the wing would do the trick (not unlike what LEGO did on the 10174 UCS AT-ST). Nice work on the new wings. To be honest I was a bit skeptical on the wings myself until I saw this picture. I guess I'm too used to the 6x12 wings that LEGO uses for their TIEs to notice that 1x4 wings capture the angle more accurately (not unlike the wings on the X-wing - coincidence?). Where are the ion engines and the rear window?
-
That's a mighty big speeder that clone's got... still, I would have to agree that you've made the best of a limited inventory. The use of the old megaphone blasters are also nice. You've got a 91st trooper overhead and... a clone with yellow arms. Which corps does he belong to?
-
As soon as commanderneyo said 'red Y-wing' I got excited because I thought he meant something like this (based on this, of course) and then I saw the words 'clone pilots' and I thought 'darn Neo-Clone Wars!' But the scale was off, the features were weird (the cockpit!), and Yoda was just plain creepy. But then again, the AAT is kind of ugly to begin with, so... Does LEGO no longer want to design big System sets, sticking BARCs everywhere to meet a price point? Or are they forgetting that kids will want to buy less if both sides of the conflict are in one set? Or maybe they just don't want to give us a $6 BARC speeder. Going to go with Brickdoctor here... I wouldn't really want these sets.

A newbie crashing the party - looking for a recommendation...
Fallenangel replied to seibab's topic in LEGO Star Wars
All in favor of doing what KielDaMan did and making a pinned 'deciding what to buy' thread, say aye! You can't go wrong with the 7256 Jedi Starfighter and Vulture droid. You get two fun little ships to swoosh for like $20 - and what's more, one of those ships contains a major character. The design of the LEGO Eta-2 isn't 100% accurate but it's really grown on me over the years, I just love all the play features and sticker detail they've put into it. -
Seeing as putting a named character in a battlepack defeats the purpose of the battlepack, I'm going to have to disagree with you all. Besides, as Brickdoctor pointed out Luke was (correctly) placed in the Imperial Shuttle and the Death Star, and they've already stuck him in 7128 Speeder Bikes. It's not like Luke is Anakin, who LEGO thinks they have to include in at least one set every year. Reminds me of... "The Empire is still out there! I don't think-" "No time to discuss this in committee!" "I AM NOT A COMMITTEE!" Makes me laugh for some reason. No offense to you, of course; it's just that I say this all the time, only it takes me a lot longer to say it.

According to this site, the actors had to hold their blasters in their left hands due to its unique design. And as you said, left-handed clones are probably for continuity. If you ask me AFOLs wouldn't have complained about the Endor bunker set even without the AT-ST since it already had two long-sought after molds, Endor troops and new Ewoks, not to mention a new hairpiece for Leia. The same goes for the Star Cruiser set since it had the long-desired Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma minifigures as well as General Madine. And both sets are pretty pricey as it is so I'd rather they had omitted the AT-ST or the A-wing and kept the price closer to reasonable. Besides most AFOLs tend to want minifigures and AFOLs are mostly the only ones who care enough to complain, so... -

Imperial stormtroopers. Most of them, anyway. The clones from the Prequels are also left-handed (which I guess means Jango Fett is left-handed as well). I have a question that's actually LEGO and Star Wars; why is it that LEGO doesn't make really small Star Wars sets anymore? Not those crappy promo things but legitimate sets like 7128 Speeder Bikes (90 pcs. at $10!!!) or 7106 Droid Escape (44 pcs. and only $6!!!) Yes I know there are the battlepacks but lately it feels as if they're getting skimpier and skimpier while the minifigures get more and more detailed. The AT-ST from the 8038 Battle of Endor would probably have worked well as a stand-alone with the rare AT-ST driver, but no, instead they threw it into a huge playset. The same could be said for the green A-wing in the 7754 Mon Calamari Star Cruiser. -

Well excuse Brickdoctor, KielDaMan, myself, and others for knowing a little bit more about Star Wars than the average LEGO Star Wars enthusiast. (Not saying the three mentioned above are the only notable ones, just the ones that seem to post in this thread most often. Plus KielDaMan is a chemistry whiz, I didn't know that!) And besides I think these 'nerd' questions are a lot more interesting than all the 'which should I get' and 'what is coming out and when' questions that most of the people here are asking. They're less redundant and you can learn new things. -

I remember a line in the Attack of the Clones novelization about how pilots shoot off their own nose cones in a Delta-7 and how only Jedi could fly it with an R4 droid, so I don't see why that wouldn't apply to the Eta-2 as well. Also, this can't be considerably completely canon, but you can fly an Eta-2 as a clone pilot in Battlefront II. Of course, remember that in the era of the Old Republic there were thousands of Jedi all over the galaxy so who knows, each of those Eta-2s may be for a particular Jedi. By the way, Razor Squadron is a Hasbro fabrication; according to Wookieepedia they're not actually featured in any canon. (What's more, the entry for Razor Squadron lacks an 'Appearances' section, and all of the sources are toy companies.) On a related note, I've just discovered that Anakin shouldn't even have a Delta-7B or the Twilight in the first place; as I thought, Anakin is given his yellow Eta-2 immediately after his knighthood in Clone Wars Chapter 21. So I don't know what kind of weird retcon they're gonna try with this... it's not even mentioned on Wikipedia. -

Well the Wars aren't my area of expertise but I do know that ARC Captain Fordo and the Muunilinst 10 flew a specialized LAAT/i with rancor markings on Hypori. (Clone Wars Chapter 21, wasn't it?) ARCs are about as elite as clones get (as far as I know anyway) so there's that. According to Wookieepedia both ARCs and clone commandos often flew in Traffic Interdiction Vessels. (I've never played the Republic Commando games, so I'm honestly not sure.) It appears that elite stormtroopers have been retconned into the "Coruscant Guard"; apparently they use LAAT/is and AT-RTs, as well as something called a 'raider'. It lists their first appearance as the Clone Wars movie, which I haven't seen, so again I'm not completely sure. In Heir to the Empire spacetroopers were deployed in mole miners during the conflict at Sluis Van. Royal Guards had their own specialized TIE Interceptors with red markings. The 181st Imperial Fighter Wing from the X-wing novels were known to have red markings on their fighters (as well as their uniforms). Kir Kanos had several temporary ships, including an X-wing and a Skipray blastboat. -

I said silver... and this was before anyone even knew about the 7663 Sith Infiltrator. I am aware that the Maul head in the 7663 is different from the one in 7151 but as far as I know there was no official head with silver trim. Just like there is no official moustache stormtrooper. Notice I said UCS sets... but lucky LEGO... I wish I had full access... but it'd cost a lot of money... -
Like I said, the droid's body doesn't fit. It looks like the plate construction there does not allow for the entire astromech's body. Look at where the droid is in this picture - right behind the clear clips on the cockpit. Now look at the same place in the loose pictures and you can clearly see black about a plate thick, on top of dark grey, meaning that there is no room for a droid body and legs there. Of course, I was wrong about the wings, so I suppose I could be wrong about this... And I will add that LEGO had managed to include an entire droid body in the 7660 N-1, although they pretty much cut out a section of the hull to do it. They also did something similar with the 7658 Y-wing and the Delta-7Bs by putting the droid in sideways rather than facing forward. Accuracy aside, I can't help but think LEGO would opt for the cheaper option when choosing between including all of an astromech droid or just including the head and saying it's supposed to be a sphere. The reason I brought up the Q7's being spherical was to point out that the lack of an entire droid body in the 6205 is not a valid complaint, since their solution is more accurate and less costly. It would be a bit like complaining that the Millennium Falcon's canopy wasn't hinged, that the new AT-AT driver is ugly, or that the new clone helmets aren't open visors like the older ones. Of course, I sort of broke this rule with the new Grievous minifigure but that was out of personal preference - I don't believe now that it constitutes a legitimate complaint. It looks like those droid pilots have two of the original "bent" droid arms to me.

Indeed. I remember someone on another LEGO forum saying there were two separate Darth Maul head prints, one with silver and one without. I have a question: just how much source material does LEGO use/have access to for their UCS sets? Because from what I can see the mandibles on that UCS Falcon are just obscenely oversized, as well as the engines on the UCS Y-wing. Such major errors of proportion are unforgivable on UCS sets(and I know that at least Aeroeza would agree with me).
