I'm fairly certain that in the Incredible Cross-sections (the only relatively canon source that contains this information) the V-wing's pilot is depicted as having a fully sealed helmet, not unlike the Clone Wars-era ARC-170 pilots' helmets: I assume this is because the Republic cut costs by having the pilots carry their own life support instead of putting it in the ship, in the fashion of the later TIE/ln fighters. And at the end of Sith with the grey Venators and V-wings it looks like they just removed all the paint, so I assume the internal structure is the same. As such, this "Imperial" V-wing's pilot should have the same type of helmet. In any case, Hasbro is dead wrong since the only people we see wearing the open pilot (at least in the films) are Oddball and Jag, both of which are ARC-170 pilots. HOWEVER, in the scene with young Vader on the bridge looking at the Death Star prototype the officers are all wearing Imperial garb. Personally I think those last couple of scenes are implied to have taken place a bit of time after the birth of the Skywalker twins (how much paint can you remove in a few days off of a 1000+m battleship) so I assume by that point all of the standard uniforms have been altered. As such, the V-wing pilot should have been refitted with a TIE pilot's uniform and helmet.

The price sir, the price. New parts = higher price. Of course, the thing is so terribly inaccurate that I'll just pass over it anyway, but the point remains valid. There's also the fact that reusing the TIE pilot from the Defender in a cheaper set would have made that minifigure more accessible, the bricklink prices lower, and this set more desirable, as well as a lack of redundancy factor, particularly in that LEGO is actually taking a step back with the introduction of this less accurate helmet in relation to the previous rendition which inevitably results in deteriorating set quality and higher prices (as well as my disgust at a lack of real improvement, but I doubt the views of one member are a considerable factor in your LEGO decisions).

No expert, just lots of reliable sources. ; ) I think cones would work fine as well. But these 6x6 dishes look really weird, as if the rear of the bomber was supposed to be convex. Of course, you could also go the Empire at War route and use large blue cylinders rather than cones (as if each pod sported one large booster), but then I wouldn't approve of your taking game mechanics as canon (not unlike Brickdoctor's thinking that the V-wing's panels actually folded in towards each other).

Full access to Lucasfilm and LEGO uses HASBRO as a reference source?
-
as I'm not sure why spacepilot decided to change the color, as his original had the correct color (but the back was the wrong shape). I'm fairly certain that the TIE Interceptor has a red engine glow like the TIE fighter. There's a clip I posted in Anio's UCS TIE Fighter thread that has the clip from Jedi.
-
It's already been established with the loose pictures that the V-wing pilot's helmet is open, though I don't understand why LEGO would go to the trouble when they already gave us a pretty decent TIE pilot with the 8087 TIE Defender.

I thought it had been confirmed that the AAT was not going to be an actual set? It's just occurred to me that the new battlepack doesn't have any standard white Phase I clones in it.
-
The canopy on the actual model is quite tall, and it is noticeably angled in the rear. Other MOCers tend to add only a single plate's thickness, but I think the rearmost section is a bit taller than that. They'll see it if you take pictures... I remember how much time I spent trying to get the bottom of my X-wing to look more like this guy's. The bottom is just as much a part of a ship as the top, and in some cases it's more (for example, the Star Destroyer - who could forget that monstrous hangar bay).

Luke's speeder was one model, so I don't think that would apply here... Upon closer inspection, it looks like I was wrong. Sorry; it's hard to determine such a feature without having a physical model of it.

[MOC] Yavin base - unreleased set
Fallenangel replied to MightySlickPancake's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What can I say, it's got this LEGO charm to it that makes it lovable. I didn't say it was accurate, I said I liked it. I like the original 7140 X-wing as well as 7256 Jedi Starfighter and Vulture Droid, both midi-scale sets, and many other sets that aren't too accurate. Besides, it's not like they were trying to make it accurate... EDIT: Glad to see I'm known for something on this forum other than "bah, retcons". -
Indeed. The Muunilinst 10 should remain exclusive to the '03 series. (But I would like a Phase II Fordo minifigure...) Also, to whoever complained about the AT-AT driver's helmet: around 1:45. Looks pretty accurate to me. Those who prefer LEGO sets over the original studio models and props should remember that there are some of us who are in it mainly out of love for the films. Seeing the amount of space inside the UCS Falcon, I doubt it would have been very difficult to replace a 3x6 wing with a 2x3 somewhere, and besides the mandibles are too large by well over a stud or two. But then again, I haven't tried it, so I'll refrain from judgement until somebody shows that it can be done.

[MOC] Yavin base - unreleased set
Fallenangel replied to MightySlickPancake's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The "proton gap" was included in the 7191 UCS X-wing, so it only makes sense that LEGO would decide to IMPROVE by retaining good aspects of their previous models. Brickdoctor that midi X-wing looks great! I wouldn't mind one of those on my LEGO shelf. I'm amazed by everyone's LDD skills here with reproducing most of a playset from a single image. For the "war room", might I recommend using the panels from the 7180 B-wing set? -
Oops. Let me try that again: With the inclusion of members of this so-called Lightning Squadron it appears that the battlepack is a Neo-Clone Wars battlepack. As such, I think that with new molds we can expect either closed helmets in the style of the Phase I clones or the open-faced helmet with part of the actual helmet being a face print. The latter is clearly not the case, so I think we can expect a closed helmet. I'm looking forward to a closed-helmet version of Fordo in Phase II armor, complete with Jaig eyes. (I'm assuming Fordo has appeared in the Neo-Clone Wars.) EDIT: One more thing: I had wanted to metion that on the last two renditions of the Falcon (10179 and 7778) the issue was that the mandibles were too long. This was also the case in the original 7190. And the mandibles on the 4504 were just plain terrible.

Actually, I acknowledge that Battlefront and many other games change things for the purpose of game mechanics (no different from the snowspeeder towing Death Stars in the LEGO Star Wars video game) so I don't consider the 501st journals to be canon, much less retcons. (Though I'm not sure if the legion of the Emperor's "best troops even referred to the 501st in the first place. But they've only been named since '04, so...) -
This is fantastic Brickdoctor! The attention to detail is astounding, and your creation really captures the feel of the "real" snowspeeder. Finally, someone's made a minifigure-scaled snowspeeder that's bulky in the back and thinner in the front the way it's supposed to be! Despite the fact that the wings of the studio model are actually very thin, I must say that the SNOT wings look quite good. It looks like the SNOT has also aided in capturing the size and angle of the large blocks near the base of the laser cannons. The inclusion of both the top and bottom flaps is quite nice, and the angled cockpit is superb, seeing as many other builders do not include that feature on their MOCs. Very solid transition between the wings and the cockpit, no gap like LEGO's snowspeeder. Great to see that you've separated the front and rear windows (although at this scale, I think it may look more accurate if you were to omit that detail, as the separation is quite thin on the studio model.) With the colored tiles in the rear, it looks like you've made an attempt at including the squad markings as well. The guns are probably the best part of this MOC. You've got them exactly the right thickness and captured the shape perfectly. (If you could get them to slant inwards a bit it would be even better.) Of course, I also see a number of inaccuracies, many of which can be simply fixed. Compare your MOC with the studio model below: The most obvious error here is the slope in the front. I’m not trying to be offensive here, but it is important that you disregard erik530195’s comment. As you can see, the corner of the cockpit coincides with one of the vertices of the trapezoidal region in the front; in your model it looks like this is shifted back a stud so that the slope cuts into the cockpit. This is incorrect. I think this could be fixed with the 1x2x2 sloped bricks and some 2x4 wings, but I’m not sure. If you manage to get the corner to line up with the edge as I mentioned above, I think that the slope would be about the perfect size. There’s a gap in the front; is it possible that instead of the two dark grey studs you could just put a light bley 1x4 plate there? (For the little dark grey bit, you could replace the dark 1x2 bley tile with a 1x2 plate with the rail, although I don’t know whether that part exists in that color.) Similarly, it appears that the cockpit in the back is shifted forward one stud; as you can see, the rear edge of the cockpit only extends about halfway along the length of the blocks in the rear. The rear portion of the cockpit should be shifted forward one stud. Going off of that, you’ve left the cockpit open in the back, even though the rear viewport is the correct size. This is unnecessary; as you can see, the deck on which the harpoon is mounted has a sloped portion that goes right up to the bottom edge of the rear viewport. I think that a few well-placed “cheese” slopes could fix this issue. (I’ve noticed that you’ve placed 1x1 tiles to represent the bumps on the studio model; impressive.) The large blocks around the rear of the laser cannons are trapezoidal prisms; on your model, the innermost portion is angled inward towards the bottom. This is incorrect; they should be parallel to the deck on which the harpoon is mounted. This should also be true for the smaller bit in the front. You’ve done a good job of leaving out a cut of the rear edge of the wing around the large round structure, but you’ve overlooked one detail; there should be a small bit to the left of the round structure. It looks like you’ve got cheese slopes and 2x4 wings there, so removing the outermost pair of 2x4 wings (but retaining the 2x3 wings) and replacing the cheese with a 1x2 plate would do the trick. The radiator fins are not trapezoidal, but rectangular. Rather than using wings, simple 2x3 plates and 2x4 plates would be more correct. (On a related note, I see you’ve also included the pluglike structure below the innermost pair of fins – nice.) The errors really are quite trivial, not really noticeable at first sight. But improving these small errors would drastically improve the overall look of your model. By the way, Dack should wear the “generic” Rebel pilot’s helmet with two blue crests, as I’ve mentioned – what’s the design you’ve put there? While you’re at it, I think it might interest you to see that the bottom of the snowspeeder actually looks like this: To be honest, I didn’t know it looked like this, being only familiar with the grey bottom of the 10129 UCS snowspeeder. But this appears to be the final coup de grâce for 10129.

True. It appears Lucas has a habit of approving Expanded Universe lit either forgetting what happened in it or without ever having read it in the first place. Wookieepedia says: . After Menace the legitimate canon was that Anakin had built Threepio. You can argue that Anakin merely found Threepio's remains and rebuilt them, but that's the retconned story. Putting Threepio and Artoo in Antilles's service aboard the Tantive IV also conflicted with a lot of stuff in Droids, in which Threepio and Artoo are assigned to several other owners. (Threepio's becoming "separated" from Antilles is also a retcon.) In addition, Geonosians never helped build the Death Star and "Darth" was not a Sith title. (Exar Kun and whatnot.)And a BIG one is that Boba Fett is Jaster Mereel, NOT Jango's clone. This was heavily retconned. You could also say that the use of R7 droids in the Neo-Clone Wars is also a discrepancy, as the R7 series was developed for the New Republic E-wing. Additional discrepancies in the Neo-Clone Wars include Grievous's physical condition, Anakin's starfighter, and the appearance of the ARC-170 and the Venator (both of which did not feature in the war until 20 BBY.) THIS! (I think it was spelled Spaarti, though.) Seeing as the last set with a Phase II clone in it featured the "open" helmet and was released this year, wouldn't it make sense that they would reuse it? That fleshy bit beneath the helmet is really quite annoying... though I don't see why you can't just stick a black head under the helmet. Worked for the stormtroopers and will work again for the new clones.

If anything, aren't there more? Incorrect. There are actually two varieties: the Octuptarra tri-droid (from the Clone Wars) and a bulkier model known simply as the "tri-droid". I understand that there is a third variation in the Neo-Clone Wars film as well. Indeed. Besides, it wasn't the 501st that was deployed with Ki-Adi Mundi but the 21st Nova Corps (under Bacara). The 501st weren't on Felucia with Aayla Secura either; that was the 327th Star Corps. At the time of the Battle of Mygeeto I think it'd be safe to assume that all of the 501st were with Anakin on Coruscant -
You know, I was just kidding... Wouldn't the printed visor actually be better, since the helmet won't look weird when it's not being worn? (Greg's comic aside.) One of the things about the older Phase II clone minifigure helmets was the fact that the cut for the visor was in a particularly thick section of the helmet so it looked quite odd from the side. There was a similar problem with this in the original Phase I clone minifigures in that the visor's T-shape wasn't particularly well represented. I guess that a redeeming factor of the current Neo-Clone Wars craze is the introduction of more accurate Phase I clone minifigures (though the removal of the lip on the bottom bothers me a bit). A Stellar Envoy would make an interesting LEGO set, don't you think?

I think there's a thread for such decisions in the General Forum. Everyone, please take note. Yup. Neither were Luke and Han, but that didn't stop LEGO from giving them the eye treatment in the 8129 AT-AT. I object. 'Child size' torsos would just kill the LEGO minifigure concept completely. Besides, they haven't made an R2-D2 to scale with regular minifigures yet; shouldn't that come first? If LEGO is going to go crazy with the molds, start with a new body for Artoo! Wouldn't a Malastare set contain Grans? Or is there something I'm missing here? Oh wait, Grans aren't native to Malastare while Dugs are...(LEGO Grans would increase the chance of a remake of Jabba's Palace, since we already have Gamorreans, Twi'leks, Weequays, Rodians, Duros, Sullustans, a new Han Solo in carbonite, Tauntauns, and 2-1Bs - all of which were not present at the time of the original.) It looks to me like LEGO is just painting the old molds, so I would expect any new Geonosians to use the same mold in a different color with printing. I'm hoping that LEGO doesn't decide to make molds for those ugly squinty-eyed Neo-Clone Wars Geonosians. I wouldn't be surprised if LEGO decided to throw in Anakin and Ahsoka. A new droideka would also be nice. I had always wondered why LEGO didn't include them in 7654. (A couple droidekas would have been loads better than that troop carrier ripoff.) I wouldn't mind if LEGO decided to give us the old Sebulba mold, just for laughs.

Wookieepedia says: I like to assume that they built the Kuat shipyards the same way they built the Halo (I guess it's vice versa, since the shipyards came first). Imperial Star Destroyers don't have repulsors - as such, any video game or comic book that shows them flying in a planet's atmosphere (like Battlefront) is WRONG. (The Battlefront games tend to change a lot of things for game mechanics - for example, the shape of the rear harpoon of the T-47 in Battlefront II.) And wheels don't exist in the Original Trilogy, so they couldn't take off like a plane either. (The Juggernaut is an Expanded Universe vehicle.) Besides, the bottom of the Star Destroyer is angled, and there is no landing gear, so how could they possibly take off from the ground? Even in a space opera universe, that wouldn't make sense. However, Victory cruisers were designed with atmospheric assault/defense in mind, so it would make sense that they would have repulsorlifts. -
Bah, retcons! Besides, Dathomiri are human so they'll never fool us! (Although the image of a dozen Rattataki riding rancors would be quite disturbing.) I used to be like that too... then I discovered the Thrawn Trilogy, the Black Fleet Crisis, and the '03 Clone Wars cartoons. The best alternative would be to disregard everything from '99 onwards so that R2 can't fly, Hayden was never Anakin, and Chewbacca never died. But it's hard to ignore the Clone Wars, so I generally consider the '03 series and the last movie exceptions. By the way StoutFiles, did you get the baby Wicket idea from...? Well, of course. The Prequels had so many retcons (Geonosians involved with the Death Star, what? Republic's only been around for a thousand YEARS?) and ruined so many characters (Early Adventures of C-3PO and R2-D2 and Jaster Mereel completely disregarded, for example) that fans of the original lineup and the Expanded Universe up to that point were just really incredulous about the whole thing and decided to ignore it completely. Which makes sense. Out of curiosity, have you ever watched the '03 Clone Wars series? Oh, I just noticed; Savage Oppress = Asajj Ventress. Same number of syllables in their respective first and last names too. How creative. Still waiting for a nice picture of that Consular...

I'd like to second that announcement. Anyone remember this? Perhaps the reason for the lack of detail on the BARC is because LEGO realized it was already too big?
-
OK before I get attacked for reviving a topic after two years (which in Internet time is a long time I guess) I would like everyone to read what I have to say: I think that this topic can and should be revived now because it would be in such a different context than it it was in 2008 and 2006. The LEGO Star Wars line is going strong and pricier than ever; quality has simultaneously soared and plummeted, depending on who you ask; we've seen realizations of many old wishlist items (Ackbar, Tauntaun and Wampa, Death Star, Endor bunker, etc.) and ever-expanding new wishlists for even more extreme requests; sets are overflowing with new molds and characters; the Neo-Clone Wars is in its third season; the 6212 X-wing is the longest Star Wars System set to stay in production; and more. There is a significant shift in perspective from what has happened to LEGO Star Wars since 2008. There's also the fact that the rumored list of 2011 sets only contains two possible sets based on the Original Trilogy, both of which come from questionable sources, and a $350 set based on a ship from the NEO-CLONE WARS. So... am I sick of Star Wars? I'm definitely sick of the Neo-Clone Wars with its complete disregard to existing canon and ever-expanding instances of retroactive continuity out of pure ignorance, not to mention the insane amount of new characters and specialized clones, some of which are really not necessary seeing as there are perfectly good existing specialized clones that serve essentially the same function (ARFs for example - although Lightning Squadron was retconned into the 91st so I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much). Going off of that, I'm also sick of the number of overpriced LEGO Neo-Clone Wars sets with their excessive new molds and prices which make the '99 prices look like good deals. I guess the recurring number of creepy-faced Anakin Skywalker minifigures and subsequent minifigure eyes with pupils is also worthy of mention.

Is the Malevolence nearly as iconic as the Death Star? The answer is: not even close. As such, I do not believe the 10188 is a valid piece of evidence for your argument. Why arm prints, ceroknight? Do 'sinker' and 'boost' have some sort of distinctive feature on their arms?
-
I think he was referring to the obscenely large hole in the back where the plunger for the flick fire missiles is.
