I wouldn't say size is too much of a problem... the M-wing looks to be around 16 studs, which in stud-to-foot scale isn't too small. I mean, both the Eta-2 and the T-47 were about 4.5m in length, and the TIE/rpt only about 3m (assuming the ball cockpit is identical to that of a TIE/ln).

So how do dmac and cavegod fit into that policy?
-
The content of the Wookieepedia article is from Chee's blog post, which is why I linked to the latter. I would say that Prequel fans and Original Trilogy fans are on common ground in terms of organic vs. non-organic, since the designs of most Rothana vehicles and craft were derived from established Kuat designs (AT-TE from AT-AT, etc.). It's really more of whether you associate Naboo with Star Wars (which, frankly, I don't).
-
I never liked the Vong designs. They're just this side of hideous. StoutFiles is usually the one to get at this, but I'll throw in my two cents. Canon in the Star Wars universe has been defined - it's just that most use the term too loosely. "The database does indeed have a canon field for each individual entry and for sources, though the canon level of the entry would override the canon level of the source since it factors in other sources associated with that entry. When determining canon levels for individual entries, anything in the films and from George Lucas (including unpublished internal notes that we might receive from him or from the film production department) is considered "G" canon. "T" canon comprises the theatrical release of The Clone Wars and The Clone Wars television series. The planned live-action television series would also likely fall under "T" canon. Next we have what we call continuity "C" canon which is pretty much everything else from the EU. There is a secondary "S" continuity classification used for older published materials created when there was less attention to making everything in the EU fit with everything else in the EU. But, if it is referenced in something else it becomes "C". Similarly, any "C" canon entry that makes it into the films can become "G" canon. Lastly there is non-continuity "N" which we rarely use except in the case of a blatant contradiction. Any contradictions that arise are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. ... "G" canon and "T" canon comprise George Lucas's vision of the Star Wars universe. "C" canon and "S" canon comprise the vision of the Star Wars universe held by Lucas Licensing that goes beyond George Lucas's vision. This material is collectively referred to as the Expanded Universe. The Holocron's canon system does not take into account any of the 3rd-Pillar fan-generated material. This material is not represented in the Holocron unless it gets canonized as "T," "S," or "C" canon by an official source. The 501st Legion, R2-KT, What's the Story, etc. are just some examples." Full post here. What's a little sad from an MOCer's perspective is that many things intended by the people who built the studio models (such as ship lengths) are considered N-canon, meaning that a random number some guy working for DK thought up and stuck in a book is considered more 'canonically' accurate than the scale of the actual filming model. What's funny is that there actually exists a ship in the Star Wars canon, the Incom I-7 Howlrunner, that resembles the Earth Directorate starfighter from Buck Rogers: I feel the same way regarding feedback to fanon creations, which is why I rarely comment on them.

Community Build: SW Episode V - Empire Strikes Back

"Cylindrical greebles" => "Nebulon-B frigate?" The creation will have much greebling, but it won't be an EF76, as much as I would love to try my hand at one. -

I think I'll also join in this community build. I won't say what I'm building, since I don't know whether I'll ever finish it - just that it will utilize a fair number of these. -
Great MOC, Renegade Clone. I really like its simplicity - it looks like something The LEGO Group could have released. The only thing is that you could maybe have fleshed out the underside more (@Brickdoctor: plenty more where that came from. )

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Fallenangel replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The Z001 really appeals to me for some reason. I think it may have something to do with the fact that it's so ridiculously obscure only hardcore Star Wars fans would recognize it. That and several nice MOCs exist of the vehicle, which I personally find really neat. -
The craft is rather unruly, but I always thought that the built-in handle grip ( ) made it great for swooshing. Although I could be biased, as 7259 was my first Star Wars set and my first LEGO set in a while.

Go, GENGAR! Among my friends, Pokemon was all the rage back in '04. Welcome to Eurobricks!

I mentioned Jon Palmer's M-wing in a thread the other day, and StoutFiles offered an interesting stance: Sure there isn't a definite connection, but I think it depends on how you look at fanon creations in general... after all, what is a LEGO TIE MOC but a non-canon representation of a TIE? There's certainly quite a bit of artistic license employed in the making. I always liked this fanon MOC, by our very own kost u grlu: A determining factor is definitely how well an MOC could fit into the 'canon' universe. I think kost u grlu's ship could very well represent a legitimate 'ugly'. I also think this MOC by Rook could be a legitimate podracer. What do you all think?

This could make for an interesting discussion.

Indeed. That's why Biggs and Jek started out plucking towers while Dutch and his wingmen headed straight down the trench(not firing a single shot through the entire sequence, which I always found rather ironic). What's funny is that I didn't know Y-wings even had proton torpedo launch tubes until recently, because they just aren't visible like they are on X-wings.
-
Indeed. What happened there?
Eh - in any case, I love that I can invite people into PM conversations now.

You've really brought something fresh to the table with these great Advent Calendar funnies. Santa Yoda is hilarious.

Having built so many, I can personally vouch for the fact that any LEGO X-wing the size of 4502 or smaller is very much swooshable (provided the build is just as solid). But if X-wings are not your cup of tea... From the Prequels, pretty much any of the speeders (X-34, Flash, swoop, etc) and fighter craft (Vulture, droid tri-fighter, Delta-7, Alpha-3, Eta-2, etc.) From the Original Trilogy, again speeders (X-34, V-35, T-16, Z001, T-16) and some fighters (TIE Advanced x1, RZ-1, TIE/In). There are also a myriad of small ships in the Expanded Universe, some of my favorites being the E-wing from Dark Empire, the V-wing airspeeder, and the Sith Fighter from KOTOR. And of course there's Jon Palmer's M-wing.

Wow! You've even SNOTed the underside! Be very proud, Hollander - you've really pulled out all the stops here. I understand this is the first time you’ve shared anything this large with us on Eurobricks, which makes the aptitude you demonstrate in this MOC all the more impressive. The sand green is really different from what I’ve seen on most Y-wings (LEGO or otherwise), and the effect is striking – though that’s not to say the yellow rendition doesn’t look just as good. I think that the engines are my favorite part of this MOC – they look great. I can see some fantastic SNOTing and a real attention to detail, like how you’ve even included the cross-shaped struts inside the rings at the ends of the nacelles and the little ‘fins’ around the thrusters. There’s also the fact that you’ve used 45 slopes in representing the nose of the craft, which I think is spot on. There is really a lot I'd like to say about this MOC... so expect a PM from me soon. @Mr Man: Actually, Wookieepedia lists the Y-wing as an "Assault starfighter", and in any case, you never see it as a bomber outside of the Expanded Universe. Then again, Gold Squadron didn't do squat at the Battle of Yavin so we can't be too sure about anything.

That may be true, but I can't help but think that Luke in his T-16 would have made just as good a set as Buzz Lightyear's spaceship. -

Podracers are presented in the Prequels as anonymous commercial gimmicks that are driven by aliens who have absolutely nothing to do with the plot of the movie and that are part of a spectator sport franchise ill-fitting of a backwater planet like Tatooine. The T-16, along with the X-34, is Luke's personal joyride, symbolic of his dissatisfaction with the monotony of his life and his adventurous nature, representative of his piloting skills, and his namesake ('Skywalker'). Though it may not have received much screen time, it has far greater significance than podracers, which could have been completely left out of The Phantom Menace if Qui-Gon had just stayed in character and stolen the hyperdrive parts from Watto. -
Lightsaber (CB SW V - Empire Strikes Back)
Fallenangel replied to sofo13th's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wonderful set of colored telescoping Technic tubes, sofo13th! Should be useful in lots of other creations! Wait, it's supposed to be what? Well, you've got the bare bones down, now add some detail and shaping so that people will actually be able to point to it and say, 'this is a lightsaber'! Good luck! k33P 0N bRiCKIn'! -

I doubt you would want seven or eight planet molds in your parts inventory (unless you intended to paint them). I think these Planet sets are more like small display pieces rather than army builders (though that's not to say a "MINI TIE fighter battle pack" isn't a great idea - but that's for another thread). This view would also explain why they come with stands. Podracers are neither the most impressive vehicles nor the most exciting ones associated with Tatooine. In the category of impressive vehicles there's the Jawa sandcrawler (as you mentioned) and the Khetanna; in speedy vehicles, the T-16, X-34, V-35, Z001... the Plug-F I would place near the bottom of the list, next to Mars Guo's Behemoth and Dud Bolt's Vulptereen 327. This would have been a great opportunity for The LEGO Group to give us a MINI T-16. Pity that podracing is more identified with Tatooine than Luke in Beggar's Canyon. @StoutFiles: Outside of Anakin's pod and the Plug-F, podracers just aren't popular, which isn't surprising given how little screen time they receive. If it weren't for this fact I'm sure The LEGO Group would have released only podracer sets for the first three years of their license (Podrace Bucket, anyone?). And I doubt that the decent treatment most of the pods have received from The LEGO Group would be retained in MINI scale. -
As far as The LEGO Group and its target audience are concerned, both Death Stars are the same size.

Could be that the pylons are too long, could be that they're the wrong shape, could be a lot of things. Don't quote me on this, but from the pictures of the final model I'd say that the width looks about right.
