Thank you, @LegoMonorailFan, again for the suggestion to try the 20 and 16 tooth gears. Here is my update! I have tried several different ways to gear the system in the powerbox with the XL-motor and the M-motor. I have found that there are three easy and possible alternatives to the original gearing system. 1. Simply remove the crank from its pin and add the XL-motor to the same pin (instead of where Lego instructs to add the M-motor as the clutch gear almost cannot deal with the XL-motor's torque!) 2. Gearing down the system for lightening the load for the M-motor. 3. The way @LegoMonorailFan has suggested is definitely optimal: using a 20 tooth gear on top and a 12 tooth gear on the bottom, and a monstrous XL-motor! ----------------------- @moustic, do you think any of these alternatives would work for your Carousel?

Thank you for being such a great teacher! Will definitely try what you suggested with the XL motor this weekend. Will also post updates! Thanks again.

Thank you for your feedback! Glad to know about the difference in power consumption of the motors. Yes, the M motor was brand new when I bought it along with the Carousel in July 2017 . I reviewed my video of the Carousel, which I took right after I built it, and saw that the motor had nearly no issue in cranking the gears. It is unfortunate how quickly its strength has eroded. Yeah, I could use the all mighty XL motor. My older brother has one so I will see if I can borrow it to test it with the Carousel. One of the way to "gear it up" might be connecting the XL motor to where the crank currently is because of how the gears are arranged in the "power box". How many "gearing ups" would I need to do for the XL motor to produce the same speed as the M motor? Never had a set with so many gears until the Carousel!

(Can't find the forum relating to PF components. Since it is about the Carousel, I guess it could be placed in the Town forum) Anyway, for the 10257 Carousel, Lego recommends the M-Motor. My M-Motor from July 2017 has already become weaker and worn out! I guess it is not robust enough. Has anyone tried the L-Motor with the set? The video shows the trouble I have.

I agree with @Hemlock Falls that numerous glances are necessary for big and detailed sets. I realized that I did glance many time at the Carousel. It is definitely my pick for 2017!

Hi Vilhelm22, Good luck on your search! I have found this video to be quite helpful, especially if one wants the golden lines on a cheaply bricklinked EN:

Well, looks like someone got lucky while the rest of us has to wait until closer to June 1st... The video shows the upper mechanism of the Carousel, which functions quite similarly as the older Grand Carousel. We can see that two additional mechanisms can be easily added in the spaces above the swan and the staircase if one so desires.

Lego 7740 set, upgrading/repairing track options
Gideon8 replied to beyondtool's topic in LEGO Train Tech
For the sake of keeping the looks of the original 7740 while updating some of the power components, you can refer to the video from YouTube below. It involves some tweaking of the power function and 12volts cords. Hope you can find and complete the other two carriages. :) -
My Ferris Wheel has arrived this week, and I am having too much fun with it!

It is unbelievable how few resources there are for your topic. I too have searched for long time and changed my Constitution Train's connective rods' structure many time with disappointments. I too want to keep the locomotive as original as possible. Finally I found an idea I absolutely love, which comes from msbbanl of YouTube. My structure requires some tuning of the two technic liftarm: 41677 at the end of the black "wand" piece to ensure that the moving piece does not get stuck against the wheel. It is not hard to tune those technic pieces. I am happy as long I can maintain most of the original build. PS. I also use a long frictionless technic pin 32556 for the middle wheels. Video:

May I ask when did you order it from S@H? Mine has not arrived yet because it has not been restocked yet.

Your Star Wars carousel is unbelievably creative! Thank you for sharing the video; I now visit it whenever I want to ride the Ferris Wheel as if I am a Lego minifigure! It is fun and feels amazingly real! Yes, I believe that one of the few ways to reduce the swinging of the gondolas is to control the speed of the wheel with a IR receiver.
-
I have to agree that it is the most surprising element in the video! I hope the clown's eyebrows will be tuned into a happier expression, unless it is used as a haunted fun house... Stuck with one speed, yeah... Variable speed makes me giddy! While extra gears are clever, I also don't really want my ferris wheel to have a jerky performance like in this video:

Has anyone ordered an IR Receiver along with other PF components for your new Ferris Wheel? I have been fencing on whether I should spend fifteen extra dollars to include an IR Receiver in my future Ferris Wheel order. Well, I am absolutely sure that I want a receiver now after watching the YouTube video below. The video shows a diorama of the three fairground sets together. They all use an IR Receiver to ensure authenticity of the motions. The graceful slow turning of the Ferris Wheel and the Carousel is rather convincing!

Around this time last year someone found the leaked picture of Santa's Workshop. So has anyone gotten a wind of the new toy shop? I am really looking forward to it since it is a great set/concept for starting a WV collection like the first toy shop has been for earlier adopters.

Custom and motorized Train 79111 Lone Ranger
Gideon8 replied to Godzilla91210's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Very nice. I liked how you kept the original front bogie while incorporating the piston rods. Are you leaving any room for an IR receiver? -
It was funny how this topic came up right after I decorated my Constitution Train for Christmas last weekend! Dr. Spock was right to direct you to the original Holiday Train. I got the ideas for my train's decorations from that set too. It was cool to see what other LEGO fans have done with their Constitution Train around the internet! I have made a quick video of my train for you: Hope it will give you some ideas too. :)

How come 60051 only have FOUR straight tracks in the latest pictures when the box of 60051 at New York Toy Fair 2014 advertised EIGHT straight tracks? Now we can only wonder until its release in August...
