Good Morning Bilbo Baggins (Hobbit Video Game poly minifig)
naf replied to Solscud007's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I wish they would have gone further with this figure and printed the legs as well. It doesn't quite look like a robe on the minifig since it ends at his waist. Still a nice figure, managed to get one this morning. -
Yes, that's what I get when posting late at night with one eye open! The headlights are common enough that I just replace them if they crack. As posted above, I don't notice any loss of clutch power with the cracked ones, so I don't even notice it unless I look very close.

I can't pick one "best" starfighter, I like them all. I really like the latest X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, and TIE fighter, I think they capture the look of the ships really well for being minifig scale. I really hope they redo the TIE interceptor and TIE Bomber at some point in the near future.

The visual dictionary is incorrect, it is an Episode III set. The minifigs don't have the weird clone wars eyes, as can be seen in the brickipedia entry: http://lego.wikia.co...170_Starfighter ** edit ** Various sources seem to contradict what subtheme this set is in, I guess it doesn't really matter. The ship and Captain Jag appeared in Episode III, they don't have those goofy Clone Wars eyes, and the ship looks sleek, so it's great in my book! I don't have the previous one, so I can't really comment on the differences. I can say that I the 8088 is a very nice looking starship. It's very sturdy, and the clone pilot minifigs are nice.
-
8088 is an Episode III version. I don't think they have a clone wars version of the ARC-170. Sandcrawler will be around for years, but 10198 will probably just get more expensive as time goes on. I'd rethink your priorities if you want a Tantive ;) I paid $202 shipped for a sealed set, plus I cashed in $25 worth of ebay bucks. It arrived today, box is beat to hell but everything inside is pristine.
-
They do have one, it's a normal 1x1 brick with 1 snot stud (they also have 2, 3, and 4 snot stud varieties: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=87087 I have some cracked headlight bricks, but some some seem to be sturdier than others. I have headlights from the 80's that were heavily played with and are not cracked, and I have headlights I got in sets a year ago that have developed a crack. I still use them, the cracks don't seem to affect the clutch power of this piece.

I don't mind the numbered bags. You can always rip open all the bags and mix all the pieces together before building (what I call "old school mode"), or you can follow the numbers. Because of kids, work, other responsibilities, I only get short periods of time to build, so I like being able to crack one bag open, build, and then pack the rest away for later.

Both brand new and sealed: 8088 Star Wars Arc-170 Starfighter - Missed this when it was out, one of the better looking starfighters in the PT IMO. 10198 Lego Tantive IV Anniversary Edition - Been wanting this set for a while, was waiting on a good price. Should arrive today, will start building this evening!

I started a thread about this a while ago to see what people did with their boxes. They don't take up too much room when flattened, but I decided to recycle them all. There really isn't any point to keeping them, they don't offer any alternate builds or anything. I did keep the boxes for my lego exclusive sets, since those are special and I want to keep them around.

I'm willing to bet it's the Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP!!!! Runner up would be the Cuusoo exo suit. -
What are your Lego Star Wars collecting habits?
naf replied to Something_Awesome's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have a love/hate relationship with the PT. They had some pretty cool vehicle designs, and some nice battle scenes, but that's where to joy ended. Cringe-worthy writing, horrible story, and really bad acting. I also grew up with the OT, so I may be slightly biased towards them. So, when I started collecting Lego Star Wars I stuck to the OT. However, the last couple of waves have produced some nice PT sets, like the AT-TE and Republic Gunship, so I've picked up a select few PT sets along the way. I stay away from Clone Wars sets as if they had the black plague, those minifigs look creeeepy. I know a lot of people feel this way about the set, but I feel like it's underrated. We all knew they weren't going to be able to give us the "entire' Echo base, and they managed to fit a lot in this set. I agree, some of the design decisions are questionable, but overall it's an ok set. It also gives you a good start for making your own Echo Base MOC. Great minifigs too. I think it's a lot better than the previous version that was basically a blast door and a cannon. -
As was said before, completely subjective, but my two favorite sets are: 6990 Monorail Transport System 6285 Black Seas Barracuda It's a combination of nostalgia, fun builds, and impressiveness. Both of these sets still impress people when they see them set up, and they are over 20 years old. They represent the pinnacle of my childhood Lego collection as they were the largest sets I owned. While I love all of my Lego, these are the two sets I could never get rid of.

Remembering "Ameribricks" forum rename from last year...
naf replied to LEGO Historian's topic in Forum Information and Help
Haha, I remember it. What made it great was the fact that it stayed up for so long. People were really starting to believe it/freak out/get annoyed lol. All hallmarks of a great april fool's gag. -
Target had some crazy clearance prices about a month ago. Went from 30% right to a 70% markdown. Had to be in the right place at the right time to get them that cheap.
-
I bought this cup for landscaping purposes, so I like the variance, but it was so obvious that I thought they had a darker green available and the bricks had just been mixed together. It would have been easy enough to sort through them to get all like colored bricks, but if I found this in an official set I'd probably be unhappy.

My purchase came to $71.99 at the lego store last time I was there, and they still gave me the martian manhunter polybag because it was close enough to the $75. I usually have great customer service there, I think this manager needs to be reported. They should have given you 3.
-
Lots of good finds at Target lately: 70709 Galactic Titan - $29.99 70708 Hive Crawler - $18.99 75005 Rancor Pit - $17.99 Not sure why some Targets are having such great fire sales, but I'm not complaining.

Pi$$ed at eBay .... sorry .. puZZled with eBay
naf replied to DrJB's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
There is nothing wrong with ebay here, it is called proxy bidding. If I find an item and bid on it, then each time you bid, ebay automatically bids on my behalf until my maximum amount is reached. Honestly, on ebay bidding any time other than the final few seconds of an auction makes no sense. All you'll do is drive up the price by having other people outbid you. Use a sniping program and have it bid the maximum amount you're willing to spend the last 3-4 seconds of the auction. That way no one has any time to outbid you. It's called sniping. I use this program and have had lots of success with it: http://www.jbidwatcher.com/ The golden rule of ebay is that early bidding only helps ebay by driving up the cost of the item, increasing the final value fee. -
Nice timing, I think this one is about ready to retire. I love the build, it's one of my favorites in the Lego Star Wars line. Have fun!

Looks better than I thought they would. I wish they added Smithers and Sideshow Bob, but I guess you can't have everything.

PAB wall is stocked with green parts, so I figured I'd load up since that's the color I have the least of. My cup: Look at the color variation in the green bricks... yikes. I didn't do a part count, but I'll just say that I think I got my money's worth. Lots of generic green and lime green bricks, a pile 1x2 green slopes, some lime green plates, flowers, and some studs in cool colors. Love those trans orange cheese slopes. I might make a 2nd run to get more since I want to build some landscapes in the near future.

Depends. 6285's sold in the US do not have shooting cannons. The sets sold in the rest of the world do shoot.

1. What do you think being a Lego fan means to you Being a Lego fan means being young at heart, being part of a created and dedicated community, and sharing the love of building with all generations. 2. Why do you love and what do you love most about Lego? I love how Lego allows myself to connect to my own childhood, as well as connecting with my kids right now. I love sharing something I treasured as a child with my kids, and watching them have fun with it. It really does offer something for everyone, at any age, and at any skill level. 3. also what is your all time favourite theme? Very difficult question, but I would say space (especially classic space), and historic themes such as pirates and castle.

Very nice collection! I missed all the POTC ships due to being in my dark age, they certainly do look nice. 10210 was missed due to the dark ages as well, but I ended up biting the bullet and paying after market prices for a new one. It had only just gone into retirement so I still got it under $300, It looks to be well over $400 to buy new right now. Right now I have Black Seas Barracuda and 10210 on display battling each other. Perhaps it's time to get the Caribbean Clipper and 6271 Imperial Flagship out of storage to join the fight.

I've never dumped a cup, but I have spilled round studs all over the floor trying to pack them into the little nooks and crannies of an almost full cup.
