Here's my new town layout, with train too :-) Its size is 4 x 8 baseplates, and there is still some space to add some buildings too. When I was a child, my favourite was the 355: But I never had enough money to buy it :( My second choice is the 356: I still have it, 100% complete :)

Building and unbuilding a city on the floor should be a pain... Have you ever thought to build your town on a support (a large table, etc.) and leave it there permanently or semi-permanently? Not mentioning the problem of dust...
