The only bastard role I've seen is the random cop, which I never considered using. -
I should play, if only that people can exact revenge against me

It does? Thanks for the feedback everyone. Glad to see most people had a good time! I'm curious to hear from Draggie and Ricecracker. Draggie's going to have to shower for days to wipe the feeling of scum off his body. -

Henry's Riddles (Test yourself, you're a puss if you don't) (and cheating is doubly cheating. Henry knows!) Hi It's me! Henry! Day 3 As we all know, KimT has a terrible gambling problem. His friends have tried to get him to stop, to no avail. Why, at this very moment, Stash2Sixx is trying to part a fool from his money. S2S bet KimT a battlepack that he'd get tails, so Kim took heads. Kim lost. Now, we all know, when we flip a coin, it's a 50-50 chance. So Kim upped the deal, double or nothing, and lost again. The chance he would lose twice?! One in four. So Kim did it again, and put a Landspeeder in the pot. And he lost again. The chance he would lose three times in a row? One in eight. Smoke was coming out Kim's ears. Long story short, half an hour later, Kim had lost nine freaking times! He was about as likely to win the lottery as lose this much! He'd bet half his collection, while S2S was hunched over trying not to wet himself with laughter. Kim was trying to make a decision, whether or not to do one last double or nothing, but he couldn't figure it out. What was the chance that this next flip would be tails? Answer: Day 4 Shadows may have a heart of gold, but he's a player deep down. He had two ladies he was getting with on both the east and west sides of town. Now, he was playing them, but he truly loved them both equally. He vowed that, as long as he was getting nookie from both, he would treat them equally too. So, every lunch break, he would catch the train to their place for a little something something. How would he decide? He would let the trains decide. The eastbound train came by every 10 minutes, and so did the westbound train. He would just take the train that arrived first. But, somehow, he ended up going westbound four out of five times, and that gal on the east side has kicked him to the curb. Shadows' heart is broken and he can't figure out went wrong. Why did he neglect that precious flower he had in the east? What went wrong with his plan? Answer: Day 5 Bonaparte has a devious plan. He rounds up a crew of his five most devious henchmen, and plans the perfect robbery; a brash, daylight heist in the streets of Brussels, Belgium. It goes off without a hitch… well, almost. One member of the crew is taken out by security. All the same, Bonaparte is happy, more money for him. The five of them score a massive bag containing 100 million Euros, and, with the honor of thieves, they agree to split it five ways. Each member takes the 20 million they've earned, but after everyone gets their money, there is still 20 million in the bag. What happened? Answer: Day 6 Cop Mike was freakin' starving on a Saturday night, and he's not the kind to cook. Too dainty for a tough guy like him. So he put on his trucker hat, and he got into his pick up truck and drove to his favorite restaurant. The place was hoppin', nearly packed, but he managed to find a parking space. Once inside, he ordered food, and started hitting on this one waitress. He went there a lot, and he kind of had the hots for her, if you know what I mean, so, I guess you could say he was trying to put the moves on her. Since the place was so damn busy, his food took a long time, like 30 or 40 minutes. Anyway, he paid the bill, and said goodnight to the waitress with a flick of his hat. She smiled politely. As he drove home, his stomach was rumbling and grumbling, much worse than when he'd arrived in the first place, and he was even hungrier than before. Regardless, he was very pleased with his decision to go there. Why was he happy he went there? Answer: Day 7 Jipay had a hard life on the streets growing up. A deadbeat dad and a prostituting mother, relentless abuse and a general inability to be successful. After a getting hooked on the horse, and barely kicking the habit, he realized that his life was in the toilet. As they say, no one becomes born again on prom night, and for Jipay, he waited till he hit rock bottom. He wanted out, he didn't want to end up a toothless rent boy on the wrong side of town. And he had a chance. A helpful little fella named Henry came along, and promised to give him a vision of a brilliant and decadent Lego website, used by people around the world, if he could tell this mysterious stranger one thing: Which one-syllable, five-letter English word is, when you take away the first letter, a homophone of itself, while at the same time, when you take away the second letter, is still a homophone of itself? Jipay said the word, and he was reborn. What was the five-letter word and its two four-letter homophones? Answer: So everyone(, except for Shadows,) is satisfied? I couldn't ask for more. (except Shadows to be satisfied, but...) I'll fully print out the game roles soon. I'm tired and slightly drunk now... -

Officially, there wasn't. That was his thing, and at first, I'd considered it a joke. It wasn't in his ability to sing to his 'victims'. After a bit, I decided to send to the song along with the block, but it was a bonus, not an ability. Similarly, Draggie's blocks got a proper treatment on day two. On day one, only Blutziegel's notes revealed JimB's failure to deliver. In retrospect, I wish I'd sent him a hypnotized post. No affect to game play, but it would have been more consistent. -

That was something that got shifted during game play, and you were simply the first one there. In retrospect, I wish I'd shifted the zoom more, so that it was more vague. Still, you convinced everyone in thread. Why do you think that if you were to convince the PR in PM, that he couldn't have put your execution off one day? Re-reading your character game profile, can you see the meaning of your game role now? Reading Whiefang's post, I'm reminded that town had a ninja! That was immune to all night actions. That's a massive benefit, but unfortunately, the real world crossed over to the EB world, and the ninja couldn't make a big difference. I'm confident that town was slightly more than equal to town on day one, though had lost their advantage by day three. -

A deep, insightful post, so I'll address this post, some of which I got to with Mr. Kovacs. The Insane independents, as they were termed, had separate win conditions. Sandy only had to kill three people, and could win with either side. TPRU had to switch only three targets, and could win with either side. Shadows could win with either side. There was meant to be an amount of headfuckery, this was an asylum, and unless they were Independent, there was no incentive to do any headfuckery. Badboy got the Jester role (http://mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Jester) which was a lot easier. But it had a separate win condition. None of those were weighed against town, except the Jester which wasted a lynch (in this case, against the guilty Scouts), so I really considered this game as at a ratio of 4:1, town to scum, with some wild cards to randomize the game. And those wild cards never game into play except to waste lynchings (Shadows and Badboy). So, town lost this game, not that they were beat. -

This is not unusual in games I've played, and gives scum a balancing flexibility. They were outnumbered 5:1 (including the bomb <the penguin> the serial killer <Sandy> and the misleader <TPRU>). Just by the odds, they should have been randomly encountered. As above. Also, town had three potential investigators (Hinckley, Stash, and Peanuts, plus Admiral Ron's vague photos). If they hadn't revealed their abilities online, they could have really kicked megablocks. Particularly, I understand that Hinckley didn't realize the potential of his ability until day three. By then it was too late. He should have found a leader like JimB and explained things to him in PM rather than explain in thread. If he'd done so, and Jim had believed him, they would have been in a much better place. With his ability, all the abilities could have been shuffled, and the good guys would have been in a much better place. Unfortunately, this is a matter of hindsight. Lord Arjay is the golden boy here. Scouts is second place. Ricecracker third. Rufus and Draggie never had their neck on the line. But how Lord Arjay survived is a testament to his mastery, and my fear of playing a game with him. You're a scary MF, mr. Arjay. -

Nope, "neutrals" is not neutrals. The only way you could be drawn out was by the insane investigator, which you were. You were aligned with the Insane. Blame Stash. His results were, "not Insane". Hinckley had the only ability to identify non-town. Between the two of them, they came to the results they did. Again, glad to see a sense of humor, but don't make it sound like you didn't have a chance. You were a victim of being meta-gamed, of being Shadows, not of anything else. -

Most definitely, yes. The baddies had three members, and they had to choose one each night to act as either recruiter or killer. The other two just slept at night. So, if you had targeted the one with a decided action, they would have been blocked. The town blocker is slightly less useful than the others, since it doesn't know what to target. But, you were very successful the last night, since Hinck was not blocked. Unfortunately, both of his targets were scum, and neither got convicted that last day. Truthfully, I thought it was pretty unfair to scum when the game began, but scum had a near perfect first three days, and town had a near perfectly disastrous first few days. Otherwise, you might have had better luck. You can read the history and see how close you were. -

Hmm. Bitterness. Hypocrisy. At least, you have a sense of humor You were grouped with the Insanes. You didn't read your own profile to debate Stash's 'not Insane' reading. There's not much to argue there. I gave "neutrals" a more than fair chance by aligning them with the good guys. Let's take this chance to analyze: Why Shadows Died 1) Stah2Sixx and Hinckley meta-gamed. Neither of them had a single reason to investigate/go after Shadows, except that they were meta-gaming. And it shot the both in the foot. Sorry guys. 2) Stash was the insane cop (the day cop, whose role was 'amateur psychiatrist') and would label any non-Sinister as "not Insane". That was bad luck. 3) Shadows ignored his player profile which said, "you are Insane." If he had noticed this, he could have explained to Stash that he explicitly was Insane, and a) saved himself and b) helped the good guys know their one investigator was getting reverse results, and thereby change the whole game, in favor of the good guys. So, I'm willing to take shit for stuff I'm guilty of, like, writing the word shit, but not for the rest. It's just sour grapes. Have a smile -

By the way, big thanks go out to Shadows, for being very encouraging to me when I had the notion to host something; Dragonator, for being open to letting me in line (despite my zero EB mafia win record ); Big Cam, for participating and for ordering and shipping some stuff from Brickarms (I think) that was unavailable in Japan; JimB for letting me bounce some ideas off him; and Hinckley, for taking a break from his busy life to participate in my game after I'd read through his two beautifully hosted Baritones games. And to the rest of you all who participated! There were numerous disappointments for me, from the early death of Shadows and TinyPies and their glorious head-megabluck abilities, to perpetual block of Hinckley and his uber-valuable power switch abilities. But, the game came together, and goes to show that reality, and its absolute randomness (and this game was built on randomness, more tomorrow about that) can build a solid narrative. Blocked, see above. I'll post them all all together, plus the random generated sequence that got everyone their abilities, tomorrow. -

I think it's hard to go through it all, but I will in the next few days. I had a blast hosting it, and hope to do one again in the future. You did fairly well for a first timer. It's hard to do your first game (and I messed up my first, somewhat) and simply surviving till the end is a difficult thing. Here is the break down of the actions, to start with the behind the scenes. The complete 'Henry' will come soon after. Maybe tomorrow. I stayed sober for the length of this game, and am celebrating with red wine tonight. First, here is Dr. Bloodbrick's Asylum afterlife message board http://123.writeboard.com/csif91lyrwpd652e/login Password: mental This is where people could chat about the game after they died (and Shadows could bitch, ignoring about how he fucked up <which I'll explain later>) Game history in post one ^ -
Last time in Dr. Bloodbrick's Asylum Now, on to ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ January 8, 1961. The hospital is cold. The hospital is quiet. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the washroom, the corpse of Ryan Catchers hung, lonely, a trace of past corpses lingering in the air. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In their beds, Dougie 'Jesus' Douglas, Perry Noid, and Dudley Eisenhower lay, murdered in their sleep. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The remaining staff had been dragged to the center of the ward, bodies discarded, having been robbed of life. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The rest, the Sinister Insane, marched toward the aghast doctor Blutziegel. Why? Why have you done this to my hospital? I've only tried to help you! The doctor's cries were muffled as he was swarmed by the group. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In his lair, his personal hideaway, the Sinister Insane laughed at their previous captor. You're all sick, you know that? If not me, who could ever have helped you? Dr. Ballbricker smiled at her old boss, "Oh, doctor, I think we're quite capable of helping ourselves at this point." Blutziegel stared at them all, slowly scanning their faces. Tears welled up in his eyes, seeing his life's work revealed in the blood lust of the lunatics before him. He remembered his past, memories fleeting and folding upon themselves, but all remaining firmly out of his grasp. He could barely recall a face not in front of him now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ His head is severed and his mind goes black. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Congratulations to the one of the baddest bad ass teams in EB history! To the charismatic leader, Ricecracker; to his henchmen Lord Arjay and Scouts; to the hypnotist, Dragonator; and the framer, Rufus. Also, congratulations to the recruited Cornelius Murdock, and to the suicidal Badboytje88. This game was full of A+ bad-assery, my hats go off to you folks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The End Hey! It's me! Henry! Hi. Screw you all ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Epilogue <translated from German> In a country house, in a small village a short drive from Cologne. Mother entered the room without knocking. "Ilse, dear, why must you read that?! You know I loathe those medical books." Mother, you know my free time is my own. You cannot command me not to enjoy what I choose. Mother was taken aback. "I just want happiness for you. You don't realize the pain medicine has caused this family." Ilse was unfazed. And you mother, don't realize where my heart and soul lies. You cannot take this from me, I will follow my calling. I will make Father proud of me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Game History Day One day time Stash investigates Shadows, gets a "Not Insane" reading, because he's the insane cop People worry that Bloodbrick is going to make a God kill if no conviction. Yumiyoshi becomes Insane and takes his weapon. Day Seven Rick answers Henry's question, asks who Henry's favorite night player is and why. But, without that to allow town to outnumber them, the final nail was in town's coffin. Everyone played very hard, and a lot of respect goes out to everyone. Thanks for making this a great game, and hopefully it'll be a hard one to top in 2011 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here are the roles, minus the pictures of weapons. Peauts 1. The message will appear as, "As you rub your eyes open in the light of morning, you remember a voice telling you at night, '______'". Any message is okay, except one that exposes your role. You win by surviving. TinyPiesRUs Syringe23. You are independent. You are Insane, of course, but your win requirements are separate from the rest of the hospital. You can choose to work with the Insane or the Sinister Insane. You are the Psychotropic Experimenter. You can switch the targets of any night actions by drugging the players. Your action is null if a non-action member is selected. You win by surviving and successfully drugging players on three nights. Your equipment is the Syringe. Badboytje88 24. You are independent. You are Insane, of course, but your win requirements are separate from the rest of the hospital. You can choose to work with the Insane or the Sinister Insane. You are the Manic Suicidal. You want to die. You win by being lynched from day three onwards. Dying at night or being lynched on day one or two will be a loss for you. You may not tell players you want to die, request to be lynched, or claim to be scum or an independent. You must inspire the players to lynch you. If you break one of these rules, you will automatically lose the game. Yumiyoshi 25. You are the Usurper, a very special and unique role. If anybody performs any night actions on you, you will kill them, cut off their face, and adopt their role. You will then be aligned to either Town, Mafia or Independents, depending on who performed the night action. Your equipment is the Scalpel. You win by joining a side and succeeding in their win criteria. 26-28, Ricecracker, Lord Arjay, Scouts. Ricecraker, Lord Arjay, Scouts, Dragonator, and Rufus are the members of the Sinister Insane. Ricecracker is your charismatic leader. You want to drain the blood of every staff member and patient in this hospital, and have decided to start on the new year. You were members of The Walrus' gang, until Ricecracker worked his way in. You warmed to his charm and supply of narcotics. Together, it's your job to destroy the hospital, one person at a time. You win when you outnumber the Insane. Ricecracker is the Cult Leader. He can act as either a recruiter or a killer, but will read as an innocent if investigated. Lord Arjay and Scouts are also recruiter/killers, but will read as guilty. All together, the three of you must choose one of you to perform your single night action (one action between the three players). The other two will appear as having slept that night. Killing will work on most players, but recruiting will work on roughly half. I have a pre-decided list of who can and can't be recruited. Players don't know whether they are recruitable or not. When killing, please state which room you want to kill the player in; Monkey, Bear, Rabbit, Chicken, Spider, Staff, the bathroom, the broom closet, or the garden. There is no relevence to the success of the kill, but obviously affects how the morning results appear. Your equipment is The Machete (kill) and The Briefcase Full Of Drugs (recruit). The Sinister Insane team are asked to submit their night actions at one time, preferably by the Cult Leader. 29. Dragonator - Ricecraker, Lord Arjay, Scouts, Dragonator, and Rufus are the members of the Sinister Insane. Dragonator is the Hyponotist. By the power of persuasion, he can put players into a deep sleep, thereby negating their night actions. The Sinister Insane team are asked to submit their night actions at one time, preferably by the Cult Leader. 30. Rufus - Ricecraker, Lord Arjay, Scouts, Dragonator, and Rufus are the members of the Sinister Insane. Rufus is the Framer. Each night, Rufus can choose one player and supply fake evidence to their file. This evidence will make them appear guilty in an investigation. Your equipment is The Clipboard. The Sinister Insane team are asked to submit their night actions at one time, preferably by the Cult Leader. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's my rundown, roughly of how people played, in my opinion. Some people obviously made more of an impression on me through PMs to me, and their behavior in thread. I don't know what went on in the PMs between each other. Scum (Ricecracker, Rufus, Lord Arjay, Scouts, Dragonator) They had no contact with me except night moves, but their moves were incredibly sharp. The frames took out two player (the King and Sok117) and caused a lot of distention among town. In other games I've played where a framer was used, it was never successful even once, so I didn't consider it a huge role, just something potentially interesting. And they parlayed it into huge distrust of Peanuts investigator. Their killing of Stash was perfectly timed. He'd cleared Dragonator, and they took him out that night, in order to not let town know that he was an insane investigator. I was very impressed that Lord Arjay got off so much. Admiral Ron - I really wouldn't have shown the photo. I can't speak for anybody else, but it seemed really clear that he was the photographer. It would have worked better in PM. Zepher - Played a decent game from where he was, and was a great example of what a town player with no ability can do in a game. Lots of rational thinking. BobTCM - Played very well, but was always just off the mark with his protection. If you see the list of night moves, he was always taking a safe gamble. Yumiyoshi - A first time player, but unfortunately didn't have the fundamentals of the game down, and wasn't sure how to approach her role. TinyPies - Died too soon! ADHO15 - Decent game, but a little quiet. Big Cam - Died too soon! iamded - Should have been honorary mafia, killing townies. Rick - Did very well, considering he had one of the worst roles, the miller. I'm impressed he was able to build up trust so strongly. Also, I don't know who cracked it, but realizing that the PR controlled who got a chance for hints could have been a game changer, if they weren't infiltrated so deeply already. Whitefang - A very unfortunate situation. He was one of the most useful town abilities, but couldn't play because of the real world. Sandy - Mostly played smart, not killing every night, but probably shouldn't have lied to say she was the vigilante. The Penguin - Another first timer, and I wonder if he misunderstood his role. He seemed to want to get killed, in order to use his grenade. It's not the best role, suicide bomber, but it is satisfying when town can take a killer out that way, and I like the role. The King/Jim B - Decent play, but I think they made a big mistake placing their confidence in each other in the open. It made them ideal targets. Hinckley - Both one of the best and worst players in the game. He was really able to rally and play a strong pro-town game, which EB games often lack, but when he was on the wrong track, he couldn't be swayed. Seeing his town game, I can imagine he's easy to spot as a scum. Peanuts - I think Peanuts played pretty smart at the start. I was impressed that he didn't blurt out his Jim B guilty reading as soon as he got it, because there was no way to safely reveal it. Unfortunately, he had bad luck in using Scouts as a link to Hinck. Quarryman - Died too soon, for no good reason. Kovacs - Pretty good game, and selected scum to block a few nights. Unfortunately, the timing was off. A shame he couldn't have blocked Draggie sooner. (btw, having the scum have three members to share actions with is quite common in games, and makes the town blocker only so-so useful) Shadows - Died to soon for bad reasons (meta-gaming) badboytje88 - An up and down game. I thought iamded would shoot him at night. I was a little disappointed that he didn't 'purely' get lynched, and instead was a side-effect of Scouts being saved by his team. Stash - Died too soon, but his role is terrible if you don't get that it's a reverse reading. The second/day time role was a hint, as was the description 'amateur psychologist', but I probably would have fallen for it. Cornelius Murdock - First or second game? I thought he did pretty good, and managed to become trusted. Mrlegoninja - A decent first game, and seemed active. Roncanator - A decent game. Sok117 - made very good arguments in his defense, but was a victim of a runaway vote. I thank you all for your commitment to the game, and your generally good spirits about it. As 'town', I think Zepher, Rick and Hinckley were the best role models of how to attack the game. There were other good players, but they didn't survive and lead the way they did. And I was glad to see all the new players last as long as they did. And so, Dr. Bloodbrick comes to an end.
-
Close. You make one of the biggest money losers in history, and you retreat to something bankable, if still absolutely terrible. I think Speed Racer was definitely better than Matrix 2 &3.
-
I guess that's what happens when you make a movie like Speed Racer. You all of a sudden come up with Matrix sequels. Poor guys.

A sleepless Dr. Blutziegel enters his beloved ward. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I worry we have little time left. Our success today is crucial to the survival of this hospital. The patients, themselves barely lucid, nodded. I understand you have come to a decision? The acting leader, Ryan Catchers, spoke, "Yes sir, we've decided on Professor Diem. There's just too much suspicion surrounding him." The crowd divided, and Diem stepped forward. "Ah, good doctor. These ingrates are below us. Surely one such as yourself can appreciate my complex point of view. Might I have a word with you?..." Diem gestured for Dr. Blutziegel to approach him. "My brain, you understand, it is a unique and priceless treasure of human civilization. To allow this mind to fallow is to deprive humanity itself. You understand, don't you?" The civil doctor weighed his words in his head before replying. I understand that you are a depraved maniac. You will get what you deserve. Blutziegel nodded to his nurses, who dragged the professor to his end. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The lights go out. 24 hours until Day Eight. Send in your night actions, the sooner the better.
