Yep, any and all LEGO pieces are welcome.
-
I have to say that was quite unexpected, but completely wonderful!
-
It's good to see many entries so far, and a mixture of LDD and real creations. They will be based on the creation, through a quick and simple judging process.
-
Absolutely. That picture is based on a MOC, so I'd be very interested to see your interpretation of the picture.

Hero Factory Month - Index and Discussion
Brickthing replied to Brickthing's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The runner-up gets the set left over, but if both winners want unsigned copies I can arrange for the signatures to be removed with rubbing alcohol. (I kid, I kid! You'd be stuck with an awesome signed set, or we can figure something out if that case arises.) -
You don't have to use POV-ray to render it, but making your Hero look as good as possible will be important for the voting stage. It depends on the style/look you'd like to achieve, because LDD's highest shading settings with lines look great for Hero diagrams/plans. There's no limit on the piece count, but try to keep the Hero at a realistic size for a Hero. No HF pieces are needed, although they are recommended. System bricks can often work well as a substitute for the clean HF armour plating, but feel free to go completely BIONICLE as well. Good catch. Being a Brain Attack villain seems to be the consequence of being infected by a brain parasite, but your creature could be situated anywhere around the galaxy, not just attacking Makuhero city. For all categories, I hope to see mostly original creatures and heroes, although revamping existing characters is also allowed. The height restriction is fairly loose, but it's there to keep the entries at a realistic scale for a Hero. If an entry goes slightly over the height limit but still distinctly looks like a (monster) Hero than that shouldn't be a problem. They don't have to be on the head, but brain parasites do their thing by connecting to the brain. They could still achieve that by extending neural tubes to the head though, not unlike Bane's Venom tubes.

Yes, absolutely! That was one of the first things I had in mind for this raffle. The quality of the entries overall will influence which entries will get bonus points, but if there are a lot of high quality entries then there will be a lot of bonus points given out. Since this is a more casual raffle/contest, editing posts is fine, but to keep things fair the time of editing will be treated as the timestamp for an entry.

Hero Factory Month - Index and Discussion
Brickthing replied to Brickthing's topic in LEGO Action Figures
That wasn't in the plan, but I did pick up a few Galidor sets recently... -
Within reason yes, but the focus should be on the figure.

As part of Hero Factory month, we'll also be celebrating the Chima Action Figure side-line, which marks LEGO's second line of original Constraction characters. To do that, we'll be holding an experimental form of raffle in order to give away all 6 Chima sets, signed by their respective designers, generously donated to us by TLG! How to enter: Build a Chima related weapon/vehicle/character/accessory at Action Figure scale. Post a picture of it no larger than 800x600 in this topic. After 5 days from the timestamp of posting your previous entry, you'll be able to enter again. While there is no minimum quality for entries, the best few entries will receive honourable mentions and bonus entry points for the raffle. The intention of the entry method is to give everybody a fair chance of winning a prize, but also to allow the most committed a chance to increase their odds. Prizes: After July 17th, the entries will be tallied and judged, then for random winners will be picked from the entry point pool: 1st Place: First preference for 2 out of 6 Chima Action Figure sets, signed by their respective designers. 2nd Place: Second preference for 2 out of 6 Chima Action Figure sets, signed by their respective designers. 3rd Place: Third preference for 1 out of 6 Chima Action Figure sets, signed by their respective designers. 4th Place: Final set out of 6 Chima Action Figure sets, signed by their respective designers. Fine Print: Your entries must be new Chima-related MOCs or LDD file, that haven't been posted before June 18th 2013. Only one entry per member per 5 days will be counted, for a maximum of 5 standard entries. Entries posted within 5 days of that member's previous entry will be disqualified. Members from all around the world are eligible. The raffle closes on the midnight of July 17th, so no entries after then will be accepted. Results! Massive thanks to everyone who participated in the raffle, and waiting out the delay at the end. The results are finally ready, for your viewing pleasure! There was an impressive range of quality and styles across the 39 different entries, and it was great to see both LDD and physical entries with a considerable amount of time and effort put into them. The months started off with a lot of weapon entries, but they tapered off as the month progressed, and the best entries mostly came through character and vehicle entries. Running through all the entries, I picked out 8 entries in total that I thought deserved extra recognition and points. Bonus Points Character: Infernum, Chi Spider – 3 points A clean and stylish build, with an excellent colour scheme that oozes of chi and toxicity. CM4S, Rhogon the Rhino – 1 point A solid set-like depiction of a Rhino in Chi form, with a fantastic brick-built head. CIDDi, G’Loona – 5 points No explanation is really needed here, with the colours, part usage and style all being exquisite. I wouldn't have thought that a Krana, a Kraata and a Dinosaur could make such as expressive face. Weapon: Dorek, Raven trap – 1 point Dorek isn’t too sure how this trap works, but that probably makes it all the more dangerous. It definitely looks like it will hurt anything that comes near it. Emma, ChiBow – 3 points A very stylish jungle bow, which features a great use of palm tree segments and minifig spears. It’s also a great example of using System pieces to create an action figure accessory that probably wouldn’t look as good using just Bionicle/Hero Factory parts. Vehicle: Oky, ZNAP Double-Crosser – 4 points I’m not sure how to classify ZNAP, but Oky puts it to good use with this excellent action figure scale quad-bike. Not only is it made almost completely from ZNAP, but it manages to look good and carry the raven colour scheme. Bacem, Chi Copterpack – 3 points Highly inventive and fitting to the crazy animal vehicles of Chima, the Copterpack seems mad enough to work. Dorek, Crawley’s Claw Crawler – 3 points Albeit aided by LDD’s unhindered colour selections, this recreation demonstrates that the minifig sets would work excellently as action-figure sets as well. Get on it LEGO! Congratulations to all seven bonus point recipients. In addition to increase odds at the raffle, you'll also receive a special Chima Action Figure tag! The Prize Winners With bonus points taken into consideration, the four lucky winners (in order of placing) are as follows: Takanuinuva Bacem CIDDi CM4S Congratulations to these four members! Each will win 1 or 2 Chima Action Figure sets, signed by the designers that created them. Please send your full name, mailing address and order of preference for which Chima set to receive to me (Brickthing) so that I can get your prizes sent out to you. Thanks again for LEGO and the Hero Factory Design Team for generously providing these excellent prizes! Please share any thoughts you have on this contest/raffle format as well, as I’d like to start running more building challenges for the sub-forum in the future, so your feedback will be very useful and appreciated! Any questions or concerns about the raffle can also be posted here. Channel your chi and get building!

Welcome to the second Action Figure forum contest, as part of Hero Factory month 2013! This year the heroes of Makuhero City have had to deal with the bug-like brains, who captured and mutated harmless creatures in order to carry out their purpose of destroying Hero Factory. From harmless rock monsters to mighty dragons, all forms of creatures were taken hold of, but what would it look like if a Hero was captured and subjected to the same transformation? Categories Hero or Monster: Build a Hero that has been taken over by a Brain parasite and show how that infection has influenced them. The mutations can be extreme as you'd like, but they must still be recognizable as a Hero. The mutations do need to be more severe than Surge's brief infection during the Hero Factory show. (Image courtesy of HFsector01) There must be some form of Brain slug on the Hero, but it can be brick built as an alternative to the actual Brain parasite piece if you'd prefer. Entry should be shorter than 30cm/12 inches. To enter, make a new topic for your MOC in the Action Figure forum with the prefix "HoM:" Before and After Brain Infection: Build 2 MOCs displaying an alien creature before and after infection from a Brain parasite. The 2 forms must be recognizable as the same creature, so don't get too carried away with the mutations There must be some form of Brain slug on the alien, but it can be brick built as an alternative to the actual Brain parasite piece if you'd prefer. To enter, make a new topic for your MOC in the Action Figure forum with the prefix "B/A:" Digital Hero: Use computer aided means to create your own Hero. Entries can be created using LDD and POV-ray, other 3D programs, GIMP/image editing programs, etc. Designing new pieces and recoloured parts is encouraged, but not required. The Hero must be recognizable as a Hero, so should be reasonably humanoid and include a Hero core. Entries do not need to be photorealistic, but should look like they could be built in real life, aside from new and recoloured pieces. Entries should be presented on a plain/simple background, since the focus in on the Hero. To enter, make a new topic for your MOC in the Action Figure forum with the prefix "DH:" An example image. (Which would be disqualified for not being a Hero) General Rules Only one entry per member per category. Only official LEGO elements can be used, excluding minifigs considering the scale that entries should be at. "Real" entries only for Categories 1 and 2. For category 3, the entries must be digital, although the choice of which programs(s) to use is up to each entrant There are no restrictions on ratios between SYSTEM/BIONICLE pieces, but the entry must visually fit in with official Hero Factory style and scale, so using primarily Hero Factory/BIONICLE pieces is recommended. Entries must have one deep-linked picture posted in the entry topic with a maximum resolution of 800x600, and an optional link to a topic with additional images if wanted. Entries must be posted by midnight of the 9th of July. Voting will then occur in the week that follows. Contest ends at midnight of the 9th of July 2013! Entries posted after the deadline will be disqualified. Entries that do not meet all the requirements by the deadline will be disqualified. Whether an entry meets the requirements will be at the discretion of the contest host, but entrants will be notified if their entry does not meet the requirements. All entries can be altered/changed as many times as each entrant wishes up until the contest deadline. Shortly after the contest closes, a voting topic will be made for the qualifying entries. Comments and suggestions on entries are more than welcome, and may result in participation prizes. Prizes Category 1 - Monstrous Hero: 1st Place: Choice of Signed/Unsigned 44014 Jet Rocka + 44008 Surge + 44012 Evo + Hero Factory Tag 2nd Place: 44014 Jet Rocka + 44008 Surge + 44012 Evo Category 2 - Before and After Brain Infection: 1st Place: Choice of Signed/Unsigned 44009 Dragon Bolt + 44011 Frost Beast + 44013 Aquagon + Hero Factory Tag 2nd Place: 44009 Dragon Bolt + 44011 Frost Beast + 44013 Aquagon Category 3 - Digital Hero: 1st Place: Choice of Signed/Unsigned 44010 Stormer + Hero Factory Tag 2nd Place: 44010 Stormer If you have any questions or need clarifications, ask them here. Otherwise, get building!

Do People Really Think Bionicle's Story Got Too Convoluted?
Brickthing replied to pocketmego's topic in LEGO Action Figures
To be fair, everything about the final storyline came out of nowhere to the casual fan, although that story only existed in order to tie up the theme anyway. As you say, the basic premise for each year was quite simple. Good guys vs. bad guys with some setting that justifies the cool new gadgets and monsters. But that was just on the surface, whereas the more detailed stories such as the books and serials drew upon the years of backstory that a new fan wouldn't know about. I can speak with a small degree from experience since I mostly dropped out of following the story from 2004 to 2007. When I had last seen the story of Bionicle the Toa were on Mata Nui and were fighting Makuta, but now the Toa had been replaced with new Toa who were supposed to be Matoran, fighting aquatic mutants underneath a completely different island? And 2004 and 2005 was just a flashback? Vakama was an evil monster? It was reasonably difficult to figure out what I'd missed, and I needed the assistance of non-official (but invaluable) sources such as BS01 to set my mind straight. I think the problem is that the supplementary stories and even the comics in later years required fans to have read or read up about too much backstory, which locked out casual fans from getting more involved. If you were determined enough to figure out what was going on, the story was fantastic, but then if you missed too much you could get locked out again. There was a bit of an odd situation where everybody could access the complex serials and podcasts online for free, but needed to buy the more straightforward stories found in the comics and 2009 flm. Naturally you'd check the more easily accessible content first, and you'd be turned away by stories involving characters no longer available as sets doing things seemingly unrelated to the year's plot. Would you then want to try your luck with buying a book or comic? -
Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Brickthing replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
You'll be pleased to know that there are actually six combiners, although still with three pairings of sets. Each character advertises a super version of themselves, using the complementary set for booster parts. It'll be interesting to see whether they address the combiners in the story, since they don't seem to suggest a shared consciousness as Bionicle Kaita did. -
Great review! Scanning the bag is a brilliant solution as well. Overall the set looks pretty cohesive, even though it doesn't resemble Eris as much as it perhaps could have, but at least the Chi figures are meant to represent different forms/states of the characters rather than just a different scale. Do you think Reidak's dual-coloured claws would improve Eris? They might improve the colouring, but Hero Factory style sets generally seem to have moved away from blended colour pieces.

New display case for lego minifigure
Brickthing replied to stephenuuu's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Welcome to Eurobricks! I've moved your topic to the appropriate B/S/T forum. Be sure to introduce yourself in the Hello my Name is forum as well, since the forums aren't meant for people joining just to sell goods. Those display cases look like quite a useful product though, so I'm happy to let this topic stay open. -
about XT4's torso
Brickthing replied to bacem's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I can confirm that I have the same problem as bacem, where the central ball on the 98590 torso doesn't register as a connection point for certain shell pieces. It does register for ball cup pieces such as 93571, but as you can see in the XT4 picture, the Size 3 HF shell should fit there as well. However, I've put together a quick infographic for aligning the two pieces. If you need the two to be connected for rotation purposes, you can add a half-pin and 3L bar to the pin hole within the culprit ball. -
Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Brickthing replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Just a reminder that this is the Legends of Chima topic, while the Hero Factory 2013 topic is just next door. For the sake of keeping the two topics distinct I think it would be better to discuss the HF Building system itself in the Hero Factory topic, although I might make a dedicated topic for the building system in the future. -
Legends of Chima 2013 (Action Figures)
Brickthing replied to DarkSurgeXL's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The details of Stormer's chestplate weren't as essential to the character, plus he had similar stickers for his jet drones, so perhaps it wasn't worth the cost to setup printing on two pieces rather than one. With Gorzan however, it would be inconsistent to print the chi designs on all of the figures bar one and there is only one piece that needs setting up for printing, which would certainly be useful in the future. That said, Gorzan's chest pattern does feature more background detail and colours that look specifically designed for stickers, whereas the other chestplates use a more limited colour range and make use of the base part colour in their designs. I suppose time will tell, and while I'd prefer printing for the sake of the character, stickers will provide MOCers with a useful gold recolour of that fantastic chestplate. -
This MOC is amazing! It's not often that you see inanimate objects or architecture built with BIONICLE, but you've done a fantastic job. It looks just like an Antidermis vat from the comics! If you can, I recommend that you replace the blue pins with black ones, since they distract from an otherwise perfectly sinister colour-scheme. Welcome to the forums as well! I'd also like to politely remind you to take care with your grammar and capitalization, since it keeps the forum posts tidier and easier to read. Thanks!

New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Brickthing replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
At least until the Bricklink prices drop below US RRP, the prices in New Zealand for the Hobbit sets are surprisingly good. I managed to find Bag End ( ) and a few other sets at the Albany Warehouse this evening at the tail end of the "Buy one, get one 50% off" offer. At least for the Warehouse, the prices were: Riddles for the Ring - $25 Escape from Mirkwood Spiders - $50 Attack of the Wargs - $90 Barrel Escape - $80 An Unexpected Gathering - $130 The Goblin King Battle - $160 -
MF Crazy Scientist's reversible face, bad quality?
Brickthing replied to JeagerEX's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have a couple of Monster Fighter Scientists, and the left lens is tinted black on both sides of the head, while the right lens is either empty or tinted red. Was the minifig that you bought new or used? Is it possible that the previous owner sharpied the second lens to be red as well? -
New Zealand: "Where to find Lego"
Brickthing replied to Legoman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Probably to prevent accidentally applying the discount to the larger set, the promo online seems to be "Buy two or more, get 25% off all of them", which means you get a much better deal if buying a large set and a small set. -
LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Brickthing replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Space Marines project actually started on the 6th of December, rather than the 12th of June, so the Space Marines were definitely inspired by and designed to look to the CMF figure. As for Galaxy Squad, LEGO themes usually take at least a year to develop, and the GS minifigures seem to be an evolution of Alien Conquest minifigs rather than the Galaxy Patrol figure. It's a shame for this project that GS was already in the pipeline, but hopefully it will still get through as a one-off set representing something that CUUSOO users have been asking for over the course of almost a year.
