Improving the 71044 Disney Train (WIP and Idea thread)
legoman666 replied to Carefree_Dude's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I've got similar replacement stickers for the Lilly Belle on my website: https://www.okbrickworks.com/shop/vinyl-decals/lego-custom-decals/custom-replacement-stickers-for-71044-disney-train-ck-holliday-lilly-belle/ -
It's really fiddley to line up fabric perfectly to do double sided. And if it's even slightly off, the whole batch is ruined.

Nothing is stopping you from starting a lego train company and giving away a $200 prize. You do sound ungrateful.
-
Very confusing reading this when you refer to the lego wheel holder as a bearing and are also talking about ball bearings in the same paragraph.
-
Damn! That's what it should have looked like to begin with! Glad the stickers worked out. I bet you're one of the only ones to add some extra carriages. Now I actually want to build one for myself!

How it looks with the laser cut fabric sails I sell that were designed by Alazon. Available here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/293567432233

Im going to print a few batches of these on fabric and see how they turn out. Single sided since printing on both sides of fabric is impossible on my printer.

Is there a file for that somewhere? More or less impossible to redraw that to scale just from the photo. And it would be for 10210, not the Barracuda? -

I haven't done those yet because the prices for originals on BrickLink were still fairly reasonable at last glance. Although I'm looking at the prices again and it'd run around $60-100 for a full set if bought from US sellers. Maybe I ought to take a look! My goal with selling the laser cut replicas and sharing the art is so people can relive the classic sets. They were a big part of my childhood and I hope they were and continue to be for other people as well. -

hehe, I added that bit after Steve's comment. The FB post I was referencing was by Nick Halliday, which is who created most of the models I print and sell. So far as I know, Steve was the one who had the original idea of using code 100. I'm not sure who first thought to 3d print the groove already in the track. Maybe it was Scott Hoffmeyer (who designed a few of the models I sell, by the way). Maybe it was someone else. I'm happy to keep making the track, although 9V isn't going anywhere until there is a new source for motors. -
Ive had mixed results from eBay sellers. I switched to Aliexpress a while ago and have been able to get consistent product from the same seller over multiple years of orders. I do add a tiny dollop of sewing machine oil into each bearing though. Most of these come with no lubrication, so while it may seem to spin very freely, it'll only last until the metal on metal contact starts to wear.

I do not include the stripes, although I can add them for an upcharge. Making the decals go to the edge of the brick generally is not a good idea. If you even slightly misalign the leading edge, the trailing edge will also be misaligned. I generally try to keep stickers within 0.5mm from the edge of brick. So a 1x2 tile is 8x16mm, the max size decal I would put on it is 7x15.

I am not the OP and I have never made wheelsets using this method. All of mine are bearings pressed in to Technic bricks.

www.BrickTrainDepot.com has 20% off all models with code BTDBRICKFRIDAY2019 and 10% off all accessories like wheels and track with code BTDACCESSORIES19 www.BrickModelRailroader.com has 15% off almost everything with code BMRBLACK19 www.BrickTracks.com has 25% off everything, no code needed. These are all the ones I know off the top of my head. Others can list if they know more.

A couple large groups are working with BrickTracks to injection mold original style wheels that press fit on to the end of the BT axles. I believe they are fairly close to launch, they've had a few prototypes runs come off already.

Do Big Ben wheels need added traction?
legoman666 replied to Carefree_Dude's topic in LEGO Train Tech
http://www.bricktraindepot.com has them for less than shapeways. And keep in mind that a regular lego steam wheel is like $4 on bricklink, so $5 or 6 for a custom one isn't a big price upcharge. Still, I get your point. Not cheap.
