Thanks! I have a few up my sleeves ;) Update of sorts: I purchased 4702, 4726, and 4735. So take that as you will!

Thank you! I didn’t like the original set kinda just hiding the slopes, this build in my opinion looks like a slice out of something bigger. The lower level is probably my favorite part as well. Not much made me happier than shaping and designing the lower half. The top was too frustrating for me. Now let’s see if I can do it without a vignette base.

We probably won't, but hey, we can wish! Thanks as well!

Thank you! I love the aesthetic of it and what a unique color to use. I’m glad this brings back the good memories!

I made an imgur album full of WIP shots of this build so you can see what it looked like before a lot of changes. You may be as frustrated as I was making this! https://m.imgur.com/a/SaUv5qL

Here is the newest entry of my little project, this one was a pain. I think I was sold on one color scheme throughout the concept stage, which evolved into a top wall, which led to much frustration to the point where I redid the whole top half about three hours ago. Three photography sessions later, I would love to present this. The original set was fairly cut and dry, featuring a lot of flames and a glowing Snape. Was I jealous? Absolutely but I love the 2018 Snape. I added one brick to the height of the original so I could focus on detail. I wanted to keep the earthy feel but also wanted to show that this was something built. The roots and the leaves are an extension of the leaves part included in the original, I wanted these things to wrap around and seem to actually have a purpose. The middle is probably one of the nicer changes. The light bluish grey tiled ground has a Hogwarts crest in the middle and a medium lavender(?) chest in the back to add a sort of reference to Hogsmeade/Honeydukes. The set in itself is an amalgamation of the Honeydukes tunnel and a fairly tense scene in which Harry pursues Peter Pettigrew. The top of the build didn't really need additional pictures as it wasn't too obscured. The statue had to flow seamlessly for me, thankfully there was a VERY easy solution which helps de-clutter the original set and allows for a focus on the architecture. I chose such a tall build because Hogwarts is a massive building, it really swallows someone up, that scale was missing from the first remake in the name of adding character. The mainstay for me and my LEGO Hogwarts is that there will be offsets by small details. I love the drawings and adaptations of these sloped and curved buildings. It's fantastical and very aesthetically appealing to me. That imbalance was shown by the candles and the brown foundations on the bottom. Fairly subtle but I felt pure mirroring would make for a boring build. LEGO Harry Potter 4711 is next, with an addition of a character and a building. I won't be using the vignette base so I'm hoping the open space isn't too distracting! Thanks for reading! Tell me what you think!

There's not much filler as the actual build as I just wanted to get it finished. Spinning from the bottom is fairly easy as the back is that open just with tan tiles to smoothen it out. As you can see too, the 9x9 base is completely removable if need be.

Thanks a ton! I had a version with an owl stand made from a life preserver piece and a spire. It was neat but I felt like it stuck out too much so it didn't make the cut.

Unfortunately I took it apart to work on my next set, but I can do a mockup on LDD later tonight.

I don’t think I spend more than 2 days of 5/6 hours of building each session. I use a Discord with some friends that grew out of LEGO for some basic questions and a LEGO Discord channel for the whole process. It’s fun to post what I have made, good or not then see how feedback and ideas shape each build. I have another set remake that I started working on about 5 hours ago that’s near completion, from that completion I get feedback and ideas on how to make it better. For this Green Arrow MOC in particular I had struggles with the dock’s borders along with the back corner looking plain. The little gate/door was a last minute decision but as you may see it pays off not only for spacial reasons but for characteristics themselves. Everything in every build has a purpose, my work may not be perfection to me yet but everything is there for some reason. I think finally getting to that point as a builder where I can distinguish between filler and something with purpose is when I start taking a build up a few notches. Thanks for the follow as well, hopefully I don’t have another lengthy hiatus!

Wholly intentional! That was one of the things I was just dying to do since the idea of this MOC came to me! I had none of them . But on the bright side, BrickLink and other resellers exist so I've been able to slowly build up by quickly blowing paychecks! The back is completely open and the wheel is on a very nice set of hinges made for some great spinning. This set was also made with the intent of being a vignette with a border before it was a complete remake of a set. Regardless, I can work on a version without a border and something much more open. You absolutely will! Thanks so much! As someone who really only builds vignettes, I miss these styles of sets. I completely understand why they aren't as common nowadays but with functionality and a good imagination, anything was able to be played with as a kid. (Thanks as well!) Thank you! I try. me too, bro As a kid, I never really had the money (and the theme was long dead when I was really into LEGO) so I'd spend my time gawking over sets online. A few of them are pretty fairly priced if you piece them out and others are near inexcusable. I wanted to keep a lot of small details but also focus on my building skills. So while I'm aware I might never see building like that in a set, it's a pretty nice table decoration! Aw, thanks! I championed this set in particular as a kid for some reason, I reaaaaally wanted it. Looking back at it while designing, I'm glad I didn't go out of my way a year or three back and try buying it for nostalgia's sake. There's something nice about modifying a set you adore (concept or build). It's just a great means of expression if you come away feeling you made something special. Which is what everyone really has made me feel like, which is a surprising but very nice reaction. Absolutely agreed, I hope they can get something like that done. I have my doubts but luckily BrickLink has these going pretty cheap. Yep! While depth may also be deceiving as the base is 8x8 but due to the slopes, it's really 9x9. There's a good amount of the wheel exposed for topical spinning as well. I will absolutely try to make that a reality, there's not a single 2001-2005 Harry Potter set I don't admire or find redeeming qualities in. Iron sharpening iron is always something I will always stand by, give it a go! Would love to see your interpretation, Hogwarts is such a great setting because it's so up to interpretation as to what builders want it to look like. I love seeing every iteration I can find. EDIT: Can I just say, I've never, ever quoted 15 replies? This feedback is incredible and I truly appreciate it!

I ordered a lot of classic LEGO Harry Potter items on BrickLink and this was the first project I wanted to accomplish. Hopefully, I'll make more soon! I do believe a mistake was using the old hair and not including a cape, however.

EB Xmas Raffle 2018 - Your Santa MOC winners thread

Is this what winning the lottery feels like? -
There's not much about the build I really want to talk about, it was fun to work without a base though. I really pushed myself to figure out how to work around the various cheats I give myself. I must admit that it may be a bit crowded though.

EB Xmas Raffle 2018 - Your Santa MOC entry thread
adotnamedstud replied to CopMike's topic in LEGO Town
Huge thanks to CopMike for running this raffle! My ideal Santa Claus has hit a bit of a bump in the road financially, the Elves now have him pose bare-chested in oddly fitting scenarios and put these images in calendars. Sleigh bells don't grow on trees y'know! -
Thanks for this awesome prize, Brick Warriors! Thanks to everyone that entered and voted!

Marvel Superheroes 2017 - Set Discussion
adotnamedstud replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
It looks real. Nice to see people are skeptical after that whole red Batman debate a while back, but this actually looks real and doesn't copy a design nor does it look so ridiculously cheap. I was thinking about it, the arena set would've been nice as like a $25-$30 set like the Hulkbuster. Just take the purple guard or whatever out and make walls that actually look like there was some thought and effort put into it. Something with a wall/door breaking function and maybe a feature that shakes the walls.- 5,808 replies

It definitely looks like a new piece. If it was a real LEGO arm holding it, you'd see it pointing back much more prominently than the actual piece it's using. It looks like an arm piece that will connect the two pieces you mentioned and hopefully offer the normal range of motion without potentially ruining the torso. It also looks like a chief complaint of the BvS Batman is being corrected in the Knightcrawler set as the design continues down the legs. Thank goodness for that. Most any set is better than that supposed "Battle Arena"

What was the last movie you watched?
adotnamedstud replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I bought 11 films the other day and decided to talk about some of them as I love them. I first bought the Cornetto trilogy, only $26 on Apple so I thought it was a fantastic deal. Shaun of the Dead: Really witty film but was fairly basic for my liking, due to Edgar Wright's impeccable attention to detail it elevated the experience for me. It was a fantastic introduction to Wright and his insane world. Hot Fuzz: My favorite of the Cornetto trilogy, it took everything that I liked from Shaun of the Dead and made a better movie from it. Fluidity between scenes, interesting side characters, entertaining death scenes. It's the perfect parody that could stand just as well if it were just an action flick. The World's End: I have some mixed feelings on this one. It's hard to watch all three and not compare them in some way, as you may see. It's an ensemble film so it's hard to care about all of these characters. I don't see Wright as an ensemble director and it's clear to see by the end of it. It's a great film but it bears the burden of being an anchor to a trilogy that's not really a trilogy but can be interpreted as one. I also bought all six LotR/The Hobbit Extended Editions for $40, it was a fantastic deal that was without doubt worth it. I haven't powered through the Hobbit movies but the Extended Editions of the LotR trilogy were great examples of how additional scenes can make fantastic films into exceptional classics. Small character scenes strewn throughout the films were so impressively done and still flowed the movie through. I actually found watching the normal trilogy the first time as somewhat of a chore, upon watching the Extended Editions, it flowed as I said before. It also made larger scenes much more impactful for me at least. I love Taika Waititi and his films, buying Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople was a fantastic choice. Boy is my favorite coming of age movie, a personal film with some great characters. While Boy is a great character, I actually found his brother to be my favorite character. Thought provoking to say the least. People may hate the ending but the whole film was subtle, a subtle ending fit. Hunt for the Wilderpeople is my second favorite Taika film though it is his best. With some more money and caliber of actors, Waititi can make some images come to reality that he once might have had trouble doing, the editing is phenomenal though the film does have minor pacing issues. Some great shots indeed. It was also a much funnier film than Boy but still had the heart of Boy. That's it. I try not to spoil too much. -
These are terrible too. What the heck!? I'm just going to BL Cyborg and Aquaman then buy the Knightcrawler to build my own version. Really lazy sets for both Marvel and DC this movie season...

Marvel Superheroes 2017 - Set Discussion

Oh god, the arena set is atrocious. Whoever designed it must've had the time of their life doing so. I'm definitely buying the Asgard set though, all that I really would need is there.- 5,808 replies

Your best Batmobile IMO. Though putting a fig it it makes it really awkward, I wouldn't imagine that adding a few tiles for height would be hard. Then again, if the shape and details suffer, I'm fine right now.

Love the entries! Finally had time to read everything on all of them, love how into it you guys are!
