In 1990 as well. After a tournament in which the Netherlands was knocked out, I always felt sad. This year this isn't really the case, maybe because it was inevitable after the first two matches lost. And if I watched the matches before the tournament (i.e. the 3-0 defeat against Germany) I could have guessed this wasn't going to be a succesfull tournament for Orange.

I thought it would be difficult, but to go home without even getting one point was something I never saw happen. Well, this tournament is already full of surprises. I never expected Russia to be defeated as well.

For the Netherlands, the worst result on an European championship ever. In 1980, they didn't reach the knockout phase, but at least they managed to get some points and even won a match.

Well, for me as a Dutchman I might haven't an objective look at it, but I had the feeling that none of the finalists were playing fair back then, neither the Dutch nor the Spanish. Spain was the better team nevertheless. As for Euro 2012: I think the Netherlands will fail in reaching the quarter finals. Before the match I thought it was possible to reach the finals and maybe even win it. For now, I hardly doubt if they will reach the quarter finals. The Dutch created lots of opportunities but failed in all of them. For me it's hard to believe this was almost the same team that reached the 2010 final. I don't know if the Danish were better, but at least they scored and toke the three points. Too bad Van Bronckhorst is retired now.

I already voted. Nice to see a model of the Titanic that's realistic, big enough to be recognizable but not as huge that it would cost a small fortune. The portholes, are they custom stickers?

Technic Update
Rijkvv replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A great example of military equipment I think is suitable is the Dakota. A cargo plane without weapons. If I see those planes, I mainly think of the liberation, not really death and destruction. I wouldn't mind if they would release a civilian DC-3 either (not counting the Indiana Jones one) but I would prefer the military one. It's even more famous than the Camel. As for the TECHNIC part: I would love to see some replacement for the 8839 Supply Ship. It is very unique, and with good playability. I would prefer no Power Functions included. It's a system that is currently over-used in my opinion. -
8288 Crawler Crane

At http://blokbricks.com/, there is string available as well. I haven't tested it, but I think this comes close to the LEGO kind. When this set became available, I was in a dark age. When I discovered the AFOL community, my main interest were TECHNIC sets from the 90s, and to be honest I began to really like this model a few weeks ago. And now it's too late to get a cheap one... -
Congratulations marshal_banana! Let's hope LEGO will approve this. Nice to see non-licensed sets can achieve 10,000 supports as well.

Old Style beams
Rijkvv replied to Tacker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I prefer old style. Not the square look of the '80s, but the nice designs of the '90s, with sets like the 8880, 8480 and 8479, but smaller sets like the 8440 and 8459 as well. This toy is called LEGO, and for that I think it should have studs. The big advantage of the (old style) LEGO is how compartible it is. TECHNIC pieces can be used in System MOCs with ease, and vice-versa. With the new studless stuff it's a lot harder. Full studded sets like in the '90s, the golden years of TECHNIC, well, I'm afraid we'll never see them again. But let's hope for more mixed sets like 8421 and 8275... Oh, and for the people who think studded is ugly, please look at the articulated dump truck of Designer Han (where a lot of System parts are involved)... -
Try this topic.

Here you can read an 1% royalty is given.

@TheWarden: in the description, he says: "Each house represents a single set and can be combined with other sets of the series." I think he means this as a new theme, rather than one single huge set.

Another comparison picture.

I really like watching reviews of classic town sets. So: yes please! Maybe it's an idea to edit the topic title (if it's still possible) with the set number.

Nice review of a wonderful Town set I hope I can get some day. Actually, the Octan car you compared the Formula 1 car with is a 1996 release. For the pieces available (the chassis plate and the slicks of the Octan racer were not yet available in 1995)I think it looks quite good. As a kid, I always wanted this set, while I didn't knew back then a micromotor was included. Especially n a 4-wide era, this truck looks massive. Great that there aren't any stickers included.

Thanks for the review JopieK! Nice to see a set from the '90s, in my opinion the 'golden age' for LEGO. One thing I never understood since I know this set are the long containers. They are 4x12 studs, while the standard back then 4x8 (or 4x16) was. It's hard to combine this set with sets like 6542, 4549 and 4555 without modifications.

It's hard to pick a favourite one. I don't really like the ones from 1998 and later though. I didn't like the sets themselves from that period, but looking at the minifigs it seems they all are angry. The 8463 one is one of my least favourites, since it's one of the most common, although it does look okay. I think the fig of 8235 would have been a better choice for that set, and I think I will use this fig in the future for construction vehicles. I really like the helmet of the Power Puller fig, I think it's quite unique with the pattern.

They all look lovely. I think the Beamer is the most recognizable, while I think you did a fantastic job in creating the Dutch police colour scheme. Another idea: a Porsche in the Rijkspolitie-version. Especially in the old colour scheme, with the orange doors. Maybe the 80s version, since you already built a classic 911. You could even complete it with a Bolkow helicopter!
