I've re-read almost all the quests at one point or another, but not ever in a marathon. I think that'd be pretty cool, though! Figuring out where the Hall fits in would be pretty tough.

Heroica RPG - Quest #139: Around the World (West)
Zepher replied to Zepher's topic in The Heroica Archive
"It is indeed a pleasure," says Daneeka. "Though I feel that traveling is as good a way as any to know anyone. I've never been one who is much for words. Gerald, Elba, and U'Or have all proven themselves fast friends, as have Guts and Hybros. You have known nearly every man and orc we have run into. It proves you keep good company." Guts attempts to compare the two maps, but they have utterly different landmarks on them. Confused, he turns around to look at the direction they came from. And he looks forward again...- 603 replies

"Very well. Wait here, and I will return briefly." Jin walks Yu Shu down the mountain. Hybros and Hoke kill some time together, thinking over the last few days. If there are any seams in their friendship, surely it can be mended by what both truly values - displays of power. Shortly, Master Jin returns. "Combat training here is easy. Please, gentlemen, strip yourselves to just the cloths on your back. Armor will only inhibit you." As the two heroes shed their extra armor, Jin draws a second sword. "In training, we worry only about your ability to hit a foe. We are not battling to the death. Kindly stop your blade just as it touches skin. As so-" his two blades move in a flash, and tickle both heroes' throats. They can feel the cool steel, but no blood runs. Jin removes the blades. "Darksteel, from Strivvi. A personal favorite." "Now, training works as such. Our primary discipline is focus. You must ensure that every action you take is a motivated one - one that will achieve it's goal. We will move in individual "actions" (rounds). Each time, we shall all act simultaneously. You may choose to take one of three actions each time. Focus, attack, or parry." Sparring with Jin Focusing will add +2 to your focus counter. Your focus counter acts as both your OFFENSIVE POWER, and DEFENSIVE POWER. Attacking will deal damage equal to your current focus minus their current focus to your target. Ex: Hybros has 4 focus, Jin as 2. Hybros attacks: 4-2=2 Damage Jin. Attacking costs -1 focus. Parrying will deflect all damage dealt to you that round. Parrying costs -1 focus. Each combatant has 7 HP. A combatant must exit the battle if their HP reaches 0, or their Focus reaches 0. Jin is duel-striking (he will perform one action against both heroes each round). All focus addition and subtraction is done at the end of each round. "Are you prepared?" OoC: I will plan out five rounds of Jin's moves at a time, so that you do not have to worry about me cheating and re-acting to your choices. I will select different combinations every five rounds, and reserve the right to react to the last five rounds (i.e. adjust strategy depending on your previous actions, but not in reaction to the actions you submit).

Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone
Zepher replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: Do recall, only Bobby found/knows about the Green Nekrastone. "Yo, so Fenerians, grab the Brown Nekrastone, and then give it to the Guardians? I'm aight with that. And then we go meet those winged chicks? What did they want from us again? Elnath's stone?" -
I really love the priest's devotion to re-explaining the angel to us each time we stop in. I don't know if it's a joke or not, but I think it's hilarious and has made him one of my very favorite characters in the whole quest.

"No relation. He was an old friend of my mother's, though, and when I was cast out of my tribe I came to visit him along with my brother. He trained me in the way of Chi, and then directed me to a Blade Master. After that my brother and I went to Eubric. Have you ever heard of the Warrior Priests of the Paladin Order?" "Words are nothing. We will cross blades shortly, though I must first assist Master Yu Shu to the Hot Springs." "Please, Jin. I'm not as hopeless as I was when I arrived. I can walk now, at least. You can stay here and play swords with them, if you want." She takes a staggering step, and the heroes can see the sweat dripping down her brow.

Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone
Zepher replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
Bobby watches with hopelessness as everyone jumps down each other's throats immediately again. Its a real bummer when everyone is so nasty. He shrugs as Miderun enters the fight. "Yo, Mide, tell these dudes what's what and enough fighting and all that shiz, you know?" When he traveled with Vind and their crew, there was never trouble like this. A huge bummer. He slides along the dragon - holy sh*t a dragon super rad! - until he's alongside Polly. "Yo, chica, I'm glad you're aight. I was super worried about you, dig?" He punches her lightly on the arm and blushes. -
"So that was your play, Eric?" chuckles Boomingham. He felt assured he had copied the best part of the book into his own Tome of Affluence. He walks up besides Peri and stares at the statue. "Grey Angel," Boomingham explains. "Looks after us all. Part of the little pantheon I'm building, of Gods who seem sort of alright. You like him, don't you?" Boomingham glances over at Sarge. "You alright, peg leg?"

OoC: Edited in missing pictures! The Training Grounds "Ah, yes. The Chi Monks. Most temples have a Chi Monk. Master Kiga was a powerful boxer in his younger days, but no more. There are, however, a number of Blade Masters in our order as well. Very few, but some. Most times I am not at a temple, but traveling. However, Yu Shu has come home to us to be rehabilitated. She requires both my presence and the hot springs of this mountain. Now, I reside in the temple and the Chi Monks roam. We are good training companions - we were trained together the first time. It is only right I help set her back on her feet." "I've found I forgot a few of our teacher's teachings over in Eubric," grunts Yu Shu. "I'm not a half bad paladin, but as a Blade Master- only Master Jin still holds that title out of the two of us." "You are too kind, Yu Shu. We shall see when you recover fully which of us is the Blade Master." "We would not have to practice at half speed, but I would be more than happy to teach you a little bit of my order." Master Jin bows to Torc. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, old one." Felix scales the building swiftly, and returns with a shrug. "Flat up there too." "There must be something we're missing..." "Patience," says Chauncey as he approaches from behind. "I warned you, it may take more time than you are used to."

The heroes leave the tavern, and wander off towards the edge of the wastelands. The wastelands stretch out for miles. "Nothing to do but to start," says Daneeka as he begins the long walk.- 603 replies

"I'm ready to bounce, but we gotta wait for Polly. That's that, dude." -
At the Training Grounds: As Hoke steps up the were-lion catches sight of him, and exhales heavily. The man catches Hoke out of the corner of his eye as well. "Enough for now, Yu Shu," says the man as he lowers his sword. "You have done good work for the day. Remember, patience over all. Do not push your body." "Thank you, master." The man turns to face Hoke and Hybros. "You must be our distinguished guests from the West. Welcome." At the Vault: "I don't know a lot about the Vault, to be honest. Chauncey told us we'd be able to collect the First Breath with little resistance, and it appears that it is indeed ready for us to take it. We need only figure out how to take it. The building style is strange for Xu - it looks for Dastanian to me, or perhaps even the old Moone Elf Kingdom. Xu does not primarily build with stone, mostly wood." Purpearl feels the stones. They are impossible hard and smooth, though they must be ancient. They are built out of both rock and sand. "Brute force would be difficult, I'd wager. Old crap usually has ancient runes or something along those lines making it even harder than it should be, and that stone is thick as Hel already."

The were-bat cackles again. "You're looking at all the people in this town! Just the three of us. Usually there's some more wanderers and treasure hunters, but for now you're the only ones." She scratches her chin. "You could buy a map off me for thirty gold. Normally I'd offer to be your guide, but with the Soul Sucker out there, it'd probably be worth more gold than you can spend."- 603 replies

Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone
Zepher replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Yo, we gotta wait for the others, and then bounce! I'm down for Fenario - we did say that we were gonna get back that Brown Nekrastone and I'm not looking to go back on my word, you dig? But we also got to save everyone, and we told those winged chicks we'd meet them in a few days... when did we say we'd do that?" -
Hoke and Hybros head up the mountain to the Training Grounds. Upon arriving, they find a man in white locked in combat with a were-lion. They moved at a deliberately slow pace, fighting at what would probably be about one fourth normal speed. Even so, the were-lion has broken a sweat. Purpearl and Guffington, meanwhile, head towards the Vault, with Lady Felix walking merrily behind them. Arriving, they find a box-like building, about two stories high. Lady Felix does a quick trip around the building as Purpearl and Guffington stare at it. Upon her return, she's grinning fiercely. "Well, I found our first problem, Purpearl. Won't be quite as easy to break into this vault as it was to break into that museum. It's lacking a door or windows."

"News from Dastan or Xu? No." *Sniffle* "I'm not in those parts of the world." The were-bat scratches her chin. "Someone must have. But the stories are scattered. They say he is a Orc, or a Pongcanis, or a Were-lion. They say he can control the elements, and that he travels with a group of advisors. One is winged, and known as a demon. One can control the weather. Sandstorms betray his coming, or mists when it should be impossible. I urge you, be careful. If you want to live." The were-bat cackles. "But nearly no one does once they're in the wastelands, Soul Sucker or not. Especially without a guide, or a map."- 603 replies

I love Waldorf. Everyone - I'm traveling home today! It's by plane, so it shouldn't be as miserable and long as my bus adventure. Updates will come tonight, probably about 10 hours from now. And then tomorrow I'll be heading back up to school and be able to insert all those missing pictures.

Boomingham draws his sword. The others had helped him with the rainbow knights, now it was his turn. "Listen, madam, I have no soft spot for your son but I'm with these chaps. If you want to go, go."

Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone

Bobby picks up the lamp and pockets it. He walks up to Miderun and the others, and asks, blushing profusely because he feels like he's asked this every two minutes and he hopes everyone else doesn't think he's a dummy. "What's the plan now, yo?" -
Chauncey watches as Hoke begins to wander off. "Looking to explore the temple? Allow me to offer some suggestions. The sword master's training grounds are at the highest point of the mountain, just over there." He points past the temple. "Lower down the mountain are hot healing springs." He points now to his right. "Over there you will find the teahouse. Master Kiga-" he indicates the were-lion next to him, "-can be found there most days. I invite you all to join me there for tea ceremonies. The hut can only fit four people at a time, however, so that it is an intimate time." He points to his left. "And finally, what you will most likely be most interested in, you will find the Vault of the First Breath over that way. And of course there is room for you to sleep in the temple every night. Gerald, when you have a moment, I'd love to relax in the springs with you and discuss your journey so far." Where will the heroes go? (You can split up!)

OoC: Sorry, I phrased it weirdly, but yeah I know about the timey-wimeyness of quests. Basically he was saying that now regardless of Baba he dislikes Ulric, not that she had left. Boomingham grins and shows off his new Royal Seal. "A token of thanks from our friend the queen. The ladies on the beach may like you, chappo, but royalty has an eye for finer things." He chuckles and searches around in his satchel for the book. "What are you looking to do with it? Never took you for a reader." He passes the book to Eric. "I'll come with you. Enough of this splitting this way and that. I need to get to the conclave, and I could use someone to bad up my story about Peri and Ulrica."

"I'm from this area now," says the were-bat. "Years ago I came here to seek treasures in the wasteland. My entire party was separated from me, and they were lost while I stumbled back here. But that was years ago." She cackles. "You're going into the wastelands yourself, huh? Be careful, little gnome. I was lucky to make it out alive, and some people say I left my sanity behind." She taps her noggin. "There wastelands have become particularly dangerous lately. There are tales of a great demon called The Soul-Sucker. They say he can rip your soul right out of your body and gobble it on up."- 603 replies

"We all have our hobbies," says Guffington a little off hand. "I happened upon incredible wealth through mine, and Chauncey has happened upon something a little different. He is a student of the world, just like I am. He has studied here and Etheria and in Eubric." Chauncey smiles quietly. "It is a pleasure. I hope you will not attempt to kill me this time around. This is a place of peace, I think you will enjoy it here." "I know of Arthur and Hoke as well, though not their dragons. I believe you both know the assassin known as XX, and his friends Zane and Johnny Everyman. Shortly after your encounter with Wren, they came to visit me at my manor. As you know, I'm quite keen on the subject. Nyx and I have exchanged words on it." He bows to Lady Felix, Elba, and U'Or. "Zora, Elba, U'Or. Nice to see you once more. I believe we will be here for a while, so please, make yourself comfortable."
