Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
That was my mistake done when writing the conclusion. Palathadric was the only one out of everyone who got it right by the letter - including me, apparently. -
"Is that so? What did you think we were going to do to these werepanthers, then? Slaughter them all out of a whim? While it is true that there might be followers of those rebels among them, we will use civilized manners in finding that out. We aoi did not get to our position by butchering innocent people." "Instead we forced them to do what we wanted." "Young Ji Pei, my patience is truly wearing thin with you! Now get out of my sight, every single one of you, or I will have you dragged to the Ark to face trials at the Citadel in the Clouds!" "Please go, my friends. Baokun will be alright, I am sure..." The desperate eyes of the old werepanther revealed his true feelings. What will the party do?

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
I'm trying to be lenient because there's so many players than some inactivity doesn't matter at all. If someone's not playing at all, though, then that's a problem, but so far everyone have been on board. Anyway, the conclusion to Day Two is now up! Hope you like the carnage! Thank you so much for playing, Eric Su, Etzel, Pyrovisionary, Darkdragon and Scorpiox! Who knows, maybe we'll see some of you back in the game, in one form or another. -
At the library, others had long given up on solving the unfinished sentence with Byblos, but Pallas Thaddicus lingered. Together the two thought they finally solved the problem. "How about this: One angel in his pride refused to become a guardian to a single mortal being. He became the first angel to fall from Ennoc's grace, and took the name Lucifuge, The Lightshunner." "Yes, that must be it! Thank you so much, Elder Thaddicus!" "No trouble at all. Care for a pretzel?" Nearby at the Gallery, Luridan Duvors purchases an axe to replace the weapon that was stolen from him the day before. "Thank you, come again!" Meanwhile, at the main hall a full-blown death match was in motion. Cromeo Nightingale, Kharybdis and Sir Rubinstein beat Piro the Visionary to death. Brienne Deercourt shielded her protégé Calico Meatpie from harm as Ein Surefoot and Capriccia Gianpaolo healed the halfling together. Theodor Legion threw a bomb at Ezeal, which gave Swinehurst an opening to cut the werelion in half with his mighty blade. Panduin Oreheart chased Eris across the floor, but got hit by a cannon bullet himself. Zarissa Curie watched in horror as Zpilf, Werther Brickton, Panduin Oreheart and an arrow literally tore Eris apart, even though she had just sealed the orcish sorceress to make her less of a threat. Calico had just snatched something away from U'dargan as an enormous sizzling spirit of thunder appeared, and struck the dragoon dead. Maxi Ebdul watched this take place through a magnifying glass. "Interesting..." Skrupp Oxstrong was admiring his newly gained magnifying glass when he was ripped to shreds by a light spell and an explosive. Enya Dorgamel got her share of the carnage as an arrow pierced her arm. Some of the others were in a less aggressive mood, though. Luridan continued making his mixtures, while Geosmos Phiephyrphoe whispered something to Emmanuelle Janus. Humming gleefully, Zelphie enhanced her staff again. After the survivors were ushered to their rooms again, the Veterans gathered the bodies. There were five of them in total. "Again, there is nothing on any of them to even hint that they had been affected by an angel. Maybe it was all just a ruse..." "Wait... Ungh, my head... I sense a presence... Fabula Sibylla be merciful, what an evil... Aaahhh!" As the Sand Queen screamed, a bright light emanated from the body of Ezeal, the werelion. The Veterans then heard a voice inside their heads, both sweet and dreadful at the same time. {This Nephilim served me well, but the others will not give up until every last one of you lies dead. That is my will.} Just as fast as the apparition of the angel had appeared, it was gone. Shocked of the vision and the fact that it was now confirmed that the Nephilim truly existed among them, the Veterans retired for the night. On the stairs, the Sand Queen stopped the Dragonlord. "Cain, what do we do? That was a real angel, free from Ennoc's rule! How can we ever dream of defeating him?" "That was nothing more than a mirage, Semiramis. Mirages can't hurt us. But those that the angel is controlling can. And as today showed, they are flesh and blood, just like the rest of us. Now try to get some sleep, you'll need it in the days to come." The night fell upon Heroica Hall, and there wasn't a soul inside that slept well that night. Host Note: You may now start sending in your actions for Night Two. Any actions you sent before this conclusion (against the instructions) were not counted, so you need to resend them.

The aoi is addressing the village elders when he sees the party returning. "Is there something more you want? You people apparently don't know what is good for you..." Elder Baihu shakes his head. "Please, milord. Be merciful to these people, they do not know the customs of our land..." "Our land? This land belongs to the aoi, Loremaster, like it always has." The guards suddenly move closer to the Thumb, as if to wait for an order.

THE DAY IS OVER! Please wait for the conclusion to be posted before sending any new actions.

The party is still undecided whether to return to the Thumb to talk about the fate of the werepanthers or just head back to the Destiny's Bounty. "We can replace their burnt circuits when we get back to the Tritech Company's headquarters outside Eubric, but I'm afraid their memories and personalities have been erased by the jolt they got." "The Bounty has a few tricks up her sleeve, but nothing to compare to the Azure Ark. The Council would have never allowed me to build myself something more powerful than what they got. And those armored soldiers were part of an elite force called the Azure Guard. Most of them have gotten the Tao Warrior's training, so you don't want to go up against them." Tarn and Tesni notice that the cannon parts seem to match, but they don't have the technical know-how to put them together. "Maybe I can help you with those? It'll give me something to do on the way back home, besides steering the wheel and oiling up the machines."

Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours
Sandy replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Ellaria tuts in disappointment. "Our luck be damned, it's locked! Well, I guess there's no way around it... Come, let us visit the people inside that other warehouse." Ellaria walks into the second warehouse alone. "Oh! I'm sorry, gentlemen! I got a little lost, it seems... I'm looking for the knights of Patuqun, do you happen to know anything about them?" she flashes the men her most endearing smile. -
The Feathered Serpent steps among the bickering heroes. "Time's a-wasting, only three hours to go until dusk. Better get your final actions in, or you'll lose the chance. Life's tough that way."

A stunned hero must be put into the battle order, for they need to spend one turn to recover from getting stunned (unless a remedy isn't used on them).

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
IMPORTANT NOTICE! Due to time constraints, I have to end Day 2 earlier, even though I haven't gotten everyone's actions yet. You have 3 hours left to send or change your actions! I agree that there are a lot of "fluff" posts in this game so far that it could very well do without, but on the other hand I've made the rules so that the game doesn't require you to read everything or participate actively to the discussion if you don't want to. Generally speaking you can just focus on causing havoc with your abilities, for example, if you're not that committed to winning. So even though some people have complained about the inactivity of others, I'm not enforcing any sort of minimum post limit. I just need to get your action for every phase, one way or another. -
"A service that we did not ask. Let me see that head..." The Thumb peers into the rice sack that Tesni holds open. "That's... an aoi! Master Kai Tsi of the Tao Warriors, if I am not mistaken. Don't you know that harming an aoi is punishable by death?" It was then that Jun stepped forward, his face darkened with anger. "Yeah, that's my former master, and he wasn't the only aoi that got killed in the battle at the falls. His daughter Xiaolin fell there too. But that was their choice! They wanted to depose you and the other councellors and instigate a new democratic rule to this land. However, these mercenaries disagreed with their plans and defeated them and their 106 companions in direct combat. Tarn is right, they did you a huge service, and now you still want to punish them because of your petty laws?!" "Jun, I don't think that's wise..." "Silence, monk! When the aoi are talking, the lesser races must hold their tongue!" The Thumb turned back to Jun. "You are the son of Lady Shanxian, I presume. I knew your father Yeong well, having served with him in the army. You speak passionately, just like him. It would have been better for you to deliver Kai Tsi and his daughter to the capital for a trial by the Council, but I understand the numbers were against you. For your father's sake, I am willing to look the crimes done here through my fingers and let you go. But let it be known that the Council won't be as merciful if we find your hirelings interfering with our matters again. Now leave before I change my mind." The aoi councellor waved his hand to give the party permission to depart. The heroes, Lee and Jun and the automata joined Vincent and Monalisa. "But monsignore, what about the werepanthers?" "It is best we leave that up to the aoi. Let us leave while we still have the chance." Vincent gives the party a desperate look. He knows that the aoi leaders are not to be trifled with. The reptilian Benji sniffs around the entire village, but cannot find Sham Poo anywhere.

"Are you implying that Xu cannot handle it's own matters? Have you any idea of the scope of our army and warmachines? I personally arrived here to pluck out this minor thorn on our side, but it seems you foreigners beat me to it." "Yes, Mr. Legonardo informed me that you were hired by Lady Shanxian. It was needless of her. As for me, I am known as the Thumb of the Blue Hand, one of the five rulers of Xu. Report what happened to the scum calling themselves "108 Stars of Destiny", immediately." Vincent Legonardo coughs. "You better do as he says, and be courteous about it. See that blimb up there? It's called the Azure Ark, and it has enough firepower to wipe this entire village out of existence. I should know, as I was the one who designed it." The inventor looks down sheepishly.

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion

CLARIFICATION: Even though giving items is not an ability, it is still affected by the order of action. If you get killed before its your turn to act, your items go to your killer by default. This is to avoid taking advantage of the power to give away items freely in the situation where you know you are going to die. -

The rest of the automata are waiting there with their werepanther guide and the nian beast. "POS-IT-IVE TO SEE YOU OP-ER-AB-LE." Gau and the nian lead the party safely back down to Baokun. But when they get there, they are met with a sight they did not expect. An enormous blue blimp hovers over the village. Soldiers with an emblem of a blue hand have rounded all the villagers at the central square, where they are kneeling in front of a helmetted aoi. Vincent Legonardo and Dr. Gioconda are there as well, but Sham Poo the merchant is nowhere to be seen. Seeing the party arrive, the aoi speaks to them. "So you are the rag-tag bunch of mercenaries who have gotten their noses in inner matters of Xu without an explicit permission from the Council? Lady Shanxian has certainly exceeded her authority." How will the party respond?

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Day Two is now up, and it's 2:30 AM in my local time. I literally spent two hours sending your night results, so you better be damn satisfied with them. Anyway, thanks to herrJJ for playing! And welcome back to the game, Kintobor - sort of. -
DAY TWO ~ DAWN OF THE DEAD At the crack of dawn, Scheherazade is the first one up, as usual. As she enters the main hall, she sees the body of Heron Jujube lying on the floor. "You've got to be kidding me. I just mopped up this floor!" Muttering curses, the matron goes to summon the Veterans. They investigate the cleric and find him to be loyal to Heroica. "Such a shame to lose another young promise..." "The blood-splatters all across the hall suggest that Heron wasn't the only one who got attacked last night." "Umm, guys..." The Copper Fox points behind the others. The Fenarian, Retak Ysp, is standing there with someone the Veterans didn't expect to see up and about this morning. "What?! I'm a necromancer, dammit!" The rest of the heroes start to wake up as well, and soon the Hall is filled with little groups quietly recounting the events of the last night. Some slept like babies, while others had fierce encounters with the same people that were now nonchalantly chatting away with the rest of them. Wandering about the Hall, some heroes stumble into the Library, where Byblos shows them a book he had been studying all night. "Glad you are here! I've been searching every book about angels I could find for a reference about a fallen one called Lucifuge, and now I think I finally got one! There is a chapter on myths related to Ennoc and his angels in this first edition of Mythica Historica, and I think I found a passage about the angel we are up against. However, most of the letters have been wiped away by time. Can you help me to fill them in?" ***** BYBLOS THE LIBRARIAN'S CHALLENGE #1: Help Byblos complete the sentence below by filling in missing letters. Send your suggestion privately to the host within this phase to receive bonus experience if you are correct. You get one try. RULES: 1. ALIGNMENTS: There are two sides in this game, trying to beat each other. Heroica wins if they manage to find and kill all of the Nephilim. The Nephilim win if they outnumber the heroes loyal to Heroica. The Nephilim know each other, but the others don’t know who the Nephilim are. There are also neutral players, who have their own special victory conditions. 2. PHASES: The game is played in two alternating phases - "Days" and "Nights", both lasting up to 48 hours - during which the players can use their abilities on each other. All players can use one ability per phase. During the Night-phase, the game is played through Private Messages between the host and the players, and all actions are private, revealed only to the target. During the Day-phase, all actions are public, and are shown in the Day-topic to everyone. Ranged attacks and spells are anexception, their performer is never revealed. 3. RESULTS: The results of the abilities are tallied at the beginning (for Night-actions) and the end (for Day-actions) of the Day-phase. When a player’s health is completely depleted, they are killed off from the game. The player who delivered the killing blow will get all of the victim’s gold and items, and gain experience (see Leveling Up). The alignment of each killed player is revealed when they die. Anyone who kills a Nephilim will gain 50 extra gold from the Veterans. 4. STATISTICS: Level signifies the player character’s overall experience. Health is initially equal to level, and attacks reduce it while healing restores it. Ether is equal to about a half of the level, and is used for spellcasting, healing and scroll-reading.Defenseis gained from shields and most artefacts, and it reduces the damage taken. WP means weapon power, while SP means shield power. All statistics except Level are kept a secret from other players. 5. ABILITIES: All player characters have their own sets of 3-6 abilities they can use during the game, related to their job classes. These skills include (but are not limited to) attacks, spellcasting, healing, tracking, stealing items, blocking, buffing, debilitating and using items. To best make use of these varied skills, the players should consider forming alliances. 6. ITEMS: All players start out with 10 gold, a weapon with 2-6 WP and a random array of other items, such as restorative potions, artefacts and tools. Like the statistics, these inventories are kept as a secret from other players. During the Day-phases of the game, upgrades and more items can be bought from Sham Poo in exchange for gold. You are free to trade items with other players, but you need to notify the host whenever you do that. 7. LEVELING UP: Gaining a level increases the player character’s current and maximum health and ether by 1. When a player kills another player, they will gain experience according to this chart: - Level 1-9: a full level - Level 10-19: 1/2 of a level - Level 20-29: 1/3 of a level - Level 30-39: 1/4 of a level - Level 40 onwards: 1/5 of a level 8. ELEMENTS & EFFECTS: There are five elements in the game: fire, ice, lighting, light and darkness. Elemental spells and attacks are twice as effective as normal attacks, but consume ether. They can also be blocked with the right piece of equipment. There are both positive and negative effects in the game as well, including encouraged, enforced, stunned, poison, sleep, blinded, sealed, confused and enamored. These can be inflicted by certain abilities and scrolls. Negative effects last until removed by a Remedy or a suitable ability. 9. BEHAVIOR: When you play this game, you are bound by honor to your alignment – even if it changes mid-game. That is why you must not discuss the game outside of the topics and PMs related to it, under the threat that you are instantly killed off if you do. Sharing information via PMs and forming alliances between the players is allowed, but must be done by knowing the risk that the other might be lying or deceiving you. Things will get brutal and cut-throat in this game, and you can get killed off at any time, but any of that is not to be taken as a personal insult. Haha, just because of the hat? Sorry to break your conspiracy theories, but that was just a coincidence. I chose the blue hat with stars because it fit Ethereth the best out of all the wizard hats. I added Njordon into the list of deities as an alternative name to Neron. And there's already a "trickster god" in this game world - Mercutio. The Vikings can have their own version of him.

~The list of Deities in the first post has been updated!~ Byblos eyed through the pages depicting norse mythology before tossing them aside. "Where is that damned banana... Got to eat something..." From the corner of his eye Byblos saw a mouse scurry in between piles of unsorted books. His eyes gleamed and his mouth watered. The taste of fresh blood gushing into his mouth, tiny bones breaking in between his teeth... He snapped out of it with a jolt. What was he thinking?! How had a civilized Metasimian such as himself stooped so low? But in his heart he knew why. It was that damned book at the back room, poisoning his mind. But he couldn't throw it away. It was a Pandemonicon, maybe the only one of it's kind left in the world! He found the banana, rotten and stinking. He ate it anyway, while giving a bitter glance at the mouse that was now staring him from a half-empty shelf.

Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours
Sandy replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"The way seems to be clear. No harm doublechecking things, though..." Ellaria uses her magnifying glass on the warehouse door and the ground below it in search of traps, before opening the door and entering. -
That is indeed Thoric. I'm using Khorne's original description for him as the flavor text. You can post the information to the Library topic yourself, just like you and Khorne have in the past.

Bah, it's Amphibiannoc, the god of the Frog Paladins, of course!
