1. Ellaria arrived to the entrance of Zylstra, a familiar place to her from a past quest, only to find herself in the company of less experienced heroes. There was even a child among them, which made Ellaria's heart feel heavy all of a sudden. She put on a smile nevertheless and nodded to the others. "Greetings, gentlemen. I am Ellaria Arbour, an alchemist of the Guild of Invision, and looks like I will be your leader for the duration of this mission. Do not fret, I am not prone to cause sudden explosions despite my profession. I can ensure that my stock of items will keep us all hale and healthy throughout this quest. And you must not fear the imps, either. Despite their demonic appearance, they are benevolent people. One of my best friends and our fellow hero Hybros is one, and he would not hurt a fly. Well, unless the fly was a monstrous one attacking innocent people." She then greeted the gnome. "Good to see you again, sir. Please, do guide us down. I don't quite remember the way, as I don't do well in subterranean spaces." Yet somehow she somehow continuously found herself in those.
2. QM Note: Apologies, I added it now. "Sorry, I only sell, don't buy. I have enough junk... err, wares in this wagon as it is." The leader of the soldiers looked surprised. "Oh? In that case, I should probably escort you to the King. He has just arrived to survey the situation in Goetia - from a safe distance, of course. We have sent several scouts to the town already, but none have returned. King Jovis does not accept supernatural shenanigans in his lands - especially if they involve devouring tax-paying citizens. Please, follow me." QM Note: I assume you want to equip the Good Book for that. As the soldier escorted the party down the road, he intently listened to Monk Pretzel's preaching. "I have already lost some of my best men in these last couple of days. I can only hope and pray for their safe return, but once you see what the sky is like above Goetia, you will understand that my expectations are not high. If there is even a slim chance you can make it go away, I am willing to take it, rather than sacrificing more of my own men. I am Barret, a marshal in the Heartland army. It has been a pleasure listening to your wise words, friar, so please, let me make a donation to your cause." Marshal Barret dropped 10 gold to Monk Pretzel's hand. The light of the dimming day had turned a strange tint of green, and as they neared Goetia, they saw why: a giant, sickly green hole of light had appeared in the sky amidst a storm of swirling clouds. Wind howled around the hills, and a few drops of stinking rainwater fell on their faces. "I told you the sight was ghastly", Sham muttered with a shudder. "That, my friends, is what a gateway to Azazot looks like, if you have never seen one. Just imagine what could come out of a rift so enormous..." Soon they came to an encampment full of tents, soldiers and horses. They were taken straight to the king, as it was getting late already. "You are in the presence of King Jovis and his Queen Coreline. Bow thy heads." "No sense in sticking to formalities at this dark hour, Barret", the king sighed tiredly. "Who are these people you have brought to me and why?" "These men and women claim they can get rid of that unnatural storm for us. I have no idea how they will do it, but they seem like a respectable and trustworthy lot." The marshal nodded to Monk Pretzel. "Do explain yourselves", the king said to the heroes with piquing interest. 3. I would really like to keep Bossk's head unique to Schuester, thank you. I wouldn't be making plans for a second character if I had just started with a new character, either. I would suggest concentrating on roleplaying with your current characters first.
4. Sham Poo spread his arms apologetically. "I'm sorry... Oh, I do have one Demon Repellent right here that I could part with for 100 gold. Now, let's see about that card of yours..." Sham took the card and his lizard's eyes widened. "This is a one-of-a-kind card! If you're sure you want to part with this, I can turn it into something real good. Let's see if I remember how to do it correctly..." Sham touched the archangel card and muttered some words, and with a flash of light, it transformed into a brilliant stone. "Here you go: you now have a summonstone at your disposal! With it, you can call upon an actual archangel to fight by your side! Isn't that cool?" Sham kept shaking his head sheepishly. Sham looked miffed about Namyrra's bossy attitude. "I'm not Elphaba, and this is not a magic shop. This is a wonder wagon, like I told you! But very well, I'll take your 250 gold for the four ether cores.I don't have any use for bones, though. I don't even have a dog." Sham handed over the quarterstaff to Pretzel as Althior tossed him the gold. "Ugh, I hate spicy food! Sorry, no scrolls either, but I do have this odd diamond here. I guess Elphaba left it behind by accident. I shouldn't probably sell it to you, then, but 150 gold should be a good compensation for the moral dilemma I have to suffer." The wagon rolled forward on the road to Goetia, until suddenly someone ordered them to stop. Peeking outside, the party saw a patrol of soldiers blocking the road. "Halt! The road is closed in the name of King Jovis!" shouted the leader, brandishing a fancy rapier. "No one is allowed to enter Goetia until the strange storm ends. King's orders!" 5. "Well, I have gadgets and gizmos a-plenty. I've got whoosits and whatsits galore. You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty!" "Let's see... Yes, I do have one Ancient Amber on the top of that shelf! I would be willing to part with it for 200 gold. Deal?" "I have a Quarterstaff that I could sell for 50 gold. I also have six Health Cores and four Ether Cores, prized 50 gold and 100 gold, respectively. The rest of those, I don't possess." "Oh, I have held onto a Mythril Ore for years now. I'm willing to sell it for 1000 gold. What comes to the sigil, I would never dare to carry something ominous like that in my belongings!"
6. QM Note: You guys really think you need more overpowered artifacts? Sham shook off the inquiries. "What do I look like, some sort of fashion guru? If I had super rare stuff like that to sell, I wouldn't be travelling dusty roads in a wagon! So the answer is that I unfortunately have none of those to sell."
7. Sorry, I'm tired. JimBee is the real host.
8. Sham blushes upon the mention of his mother. "Thanks! My mommy can be overbearing, but I know she loves me unconditionally. I only want the best for her, that's why I'm on this never-ending quest to find my fortune. This wagon certainly gets me much further to my goal! Indeed, I have loaded the wagon with stuff to sell. Just ask what you would like to buy and I will see if I can provide it." ~SHAM POO'S WAGON OF WONDERS~ Sham has gathered all sorts of items to the Shammobile. The heroes may request any existing item and Sham will tell if he has it in stock and how much he charges for it. He does not have an unlimited stock of any item, though, and does not have items that have not been featured in a quest before at all. "Oh, I've had quite enough of playing with the cards - I was never very good with them, anyway - but I actually got this wagon as a reward for becoming an official Decamon Trader. If you want to trade your Decamon cards in for prizes, let me know! ~DECAMON PRIZES~ The following prizes can be exchanged for a Decamon card (besides Ethereal) of the corresponding number: 1. Mystery Prize (???) "But we must not dawdle! Get in, everyone! We still have a long drive ahead of us before Goetia, so we will have plenty of time to sort out any businesses you might want to entangle with." The heroes embarked the Shammobile and it started rolling down the street. Soon Miranda was left behind, and verdant, rolling hills surrounded them on both sides.
9. ~A new quest has been posted on the Quest Board (#151 by JimBee)!~ Having returned to the Hall after a long while, Ellaria walked to the Quest Board. "Hmm, looks like Hybros's people are in trouble. Since he's not around, I better go and help them", she muttered by herself and signed into Quest#151. Despite Hybros leaving the guild of alchemists behind, Ellaria felt obliged to help her close friend.
10. The cat sensed Hybros' intentions and quickly fled. It wouldn't have survived the alleys of Miranda for as long as it had if it was trusting of total strangers. The werebear shrugged drowzily. "Beats me. Not locals, remember?" At that moment someone cried "Watch out!" on the street, and a gaudily painted wagon rolled into sight rapidly and noisily. All the birds that had gathered flew back into the skies, scared away by the ruckus. As the wagon came to a halt in front of the party, they realized it wasn't pulled by any animals. In fact, they recognized the wagon as the very same that had been used by the witch Elphaba during her visits to the Eubric Marketplace twice a year. "There you are! Sorry to have kept you waiting, I just had some... erhm, business to finish here in Miranda. But now I'm here, as soon as I heard you summon me! Sham Poo, the Travelling Merchant, at your service, gentlemen!" The half-orc glanced at Namyrra and grimaced. "And uh, lady? Anyway, check out this ride I got from the Decamon Tournament! Just had to talk to a few key people and pull some right strings, and here I am as the proud owner of The Shammobile! Now I can travel anywhere I want with luxury and style." Byblos cleared his throat. "Yes yes, that's all well and good, but what about that business in Goetia? Isn't that why you called us here?" "Oh, yes! There's something nasty brewing down there, let me tell you! That sky... It looks like someone tore a hole in it! And not a soul has come out of that town ever since. Bad for business, I tell you - veeery bad. Of course you will make it all better, like mommy said. Won't you? The Shammobile will take you there in no time!"
11. The two men had nothing relevant to say. "Keee! Kia kia kia! [i honestly don't know! I was only instructed to meet His Majesty at the port upon your arrival to give him my raport! He could be anywhere by now, he is the King of All Birds, after all.]" More and more birds gathered around the port to observe the party, from parrots to birds of prey. The locals began to wonder what the strange phenomenon was all about.
12. The werebear glanced at Monk Pretzel. "Not meaning to be anyone's foe, just a paw for hire. But thanks anyway. The name's Ursauron. Mind telling what brings you to Miranda?" The man who was dressed in well-tailored garments ignored Hybros's question, just muttered something about being busy and walked to another man to chat. Hybros caught bits of their conversation, which seemed to involve trading. "Keee! Kraah! [i don't know anything about His Majesty's motives, let alone archdemons! He was just interested about your mission and wanted to learn everything about it. Please let me fly unharmed, I'm just a messenger after all!]" The seagull's cries had attracted other sea birds that begun to circulate above the heroes. "Ah, leave that to Nergut! I'll just send a word to the merchant network with one of the errand boys and he should be here in no time. Who should I say is asking for him?"
13. QM Note: I'm sorry, I had another incredibly busy weekend. You can blame my friends and the Eurovision Song Contest. The werebear looked contemplating. "Huh. Have to think again... Maybe just join a private army, then. Heard there's a lot of them in Eubric. Not seen an orcish merchant here. Haven't been around for long, though. Just arrived on a ship from Terra Chima the other day." Atramor's quick thief's reflexes allowed him to seize the seagull before it could take to the skies. "Kraaah!" The seagull tried to flail its way to freedom, but soon it tired and succumbed to its captors. "Keee! Keee! [i followed you from Eubric and raported everything you spoke about to His Majesty. I only did as he ordered, so please don't punish me for it!]" Nergut laughed heartily, baring all her many rows of sharp teeth. "Aye! I've seen him alright. Rides around the streets on a fancy wagon with no horses pulling it, peddling his wares. I remember he has a funny name, hasn't he? Some kind of a potty word... Sammy Doodoo, was it?"
14. Confused applies to specials as well, meaning that a confused enemy will have a 1/2 chance of using the special skill against it's interests. Just as Flipz has pointed out. It's been on the FAQ for a long time, so if QMs have been using the effect wrong, then it's their mistake. It's an interesting idea, and I wouldn't mind seeing it implemented.
15. Upon closer inspection, Monk Pretzel realized he's been talking to a werebear. The hulking half-beast looked down at Pretzel with disinterested. "Nah, waiting to catch my ship that'll ferry me to Eubric. Heard there's war a-brewing, and saw a chance to make some gold out of it. Heard there's this organization called Herochica or something like that that'll hire just about anyone. Have to see about that..." The mercenary's gaze wanders to the sea. Mr. Gaunt was startled by Althior's sudden appearance and intimidating voice. It seems he had been communicating with the seagull. "Aaah, Miiister Eeemoriith! Myyy miiistresss doeees nooot wooork fooor Uuulriic aaanymooore, aaand neeeitheeer dooo III." Mr. Gaunt rapidly rises into the air and glides over the building behind him. Will the heroes attempt pursuit? "Aye! The freshest fish - and gossip - in Miranda you get from Nergut, you can bet on that! How may I help you on this fine day, missus?"
16. After a few days of feasting, the party saw the coast of Mistaria in front of them. As they approached the port of Miranda, they saw an enormous pile of rubble near the town. "That's all that remains from the tyrant Haroka's tower that he built overnight using the magic of the Darkstar. The sea monster I mentioned the other day completely demolished it. Too bad I wasn't around to see it happen! Anyway, Miranda's recovered well from those times, the business is booming and people are visiting from all over the world. You'll see for yourself when we get there. Oh, and when you need a trip home, come back to me. I'll be anchored here for a few weeks." As the heroes disembarked The Sealion, they saw that the captain's words had been true. The port was lively, with plenty of merchants and fishmongers trying to lure in customers. "So, now we have to seek out Sham Poo. I cannot see him anywhere, so maybe we ought to ask around?" 17. "The Three Freewomen are independent trading ports that do not actually belong to Heartland. They each have a governor - all of which happen to be leaders of the Mistarian Trading Company, as well. Convenient, wouldn't you say? But the cities depend on Heartland as much as Heartland depends on them, so you could call them close allies. Heartland has been ruled by a human king ever since its foundation, but there are a variety of other races living there, even Metasimians like your friend that have crept out of the Mistland Jungles." "Excuse me? Crept?!" "Figure of speach, my friend", Mumbasa laughed. "Another race that has emerged from the jungles are the Proserpines. You can easily recognize them for their willowy bodies, colorfun skins and the tails on their heads." "Proserpines are ancient enemies of the Metasimians!" Byblos said, frowning. "They mock the name of Orang Pendek, the Dormant Fist, with their paganistic orgies and noisy bacchanals that last for weeks!" "Ah yes, you are likely to find Proserpines working in a brothel", Mumbasa said and winked. "Some of them are even said to work there for free, just for the fun of it." "What?! How did you know to pick a Plant card? I'd call you a cheat if I didn't know Heroicans were a trustworthy bunch. Once met a wonderful man from your ranks named Boomingham at the Foundation Day Ball in Eubric Theater. You know him? If you do, say hello from me. Anyway, I admit defeat. I officially name you the Aquatic Champion of Decamon, Atramor Gibbin. Congratulations, and take good care of that archangel card for me!" Atramor won the match! Mumbasa: Tygurah (Electric 7) Carcinos (Aquatic 8) Hydra (Aquatic 9) Pegasus (Luminous 8) Archangel (Luminous 10) Atramor: Stone Golem (Rock 8) Aquaphant (Aquatic 6) Automaton (Electric 5) Storm Elemental (Electric 8) Treant (Plant 9) "Now, let's all go to my cabin to have a celebratory feast. Losing makes me thirsty!"
18. "You became a Decamon Drafter after the Tournament, then? I wondered back then how that all would work, but it sounded too technical for my appetite. I prefer the simple life on the seas. Oh, and let's call that one even." Mumbasa tied the card with Pegasus (Luminous 8). "I naturally saved the best for last. Now, this is the prized pearl of my collection, so if you can somehow trump that, I will gladly give you my champion's title." The captain held out his last card: an incredibly rare Archangel (Luminous 10). "Ooh! Were you still a drafter, that one could decimate the demons we're about to face!" "Well, you could always find an official Decamon Trader and exchange it for one of those acclaimed 'mystery prices' - if you can pry it off my hands, that it." Mumbasa: Tygurah (Electric 7) Carcinos (Aquatic 8) Hydra (Aquatic 9) Pegasus (Luminous 8) Archangel (Luminous 10) Atramor: Stone Golem (Rock 8) Aquaphant (Aquatic 6) Automaton (Electric 5) Storm Elemental (Electric 8)
19. "Grafh! I'll give you that, but I won't give another one." Mumbasa produced Carcinos (Aquatic 8) that won Atramor's card. He then grinned slyly and took out Hydra (Aquatic 9). Mumbasa: Tygurah (Electric 7) Carcinos (Aquatic 8) Hydra (Aquatic 9) Atramor: Stone Golem (Rock 8) Aquaphant (Aquatic 6) Mumbasa gave Hybros a confused smile. "Who is sailing all those Bonaparte ships, then? I have no complaints about them, and the Company is wealthy enough to pay the toll fees with no problems. What comes to my crew, they're busy at work. Please don't disturb them - they're so easily distracted." Hybros watched as dozens of uniformed sailors hustled and bustled around the wide deck.
20. "Oh, the Bonapartes have been doing a good job keeping the pirates at bay since the days of Jolly Roger. The route between the Free Islands and Miranda is one of the busiest in the whole Crystalline Sea, so it's also well guarded. Not to say there haven't been attempts to take over my ship, but I keep my crew healthy and fit for those occasions." Mumbasa tossed the coin high into the air and catches it. "Tails. I will start, then. Let's see... I'll start with an easy one." The captain chose a card from his hand: Tygurah (Electric 7).
21. Yeah, that ship has already sailed. Literally.
22. "Ah, this ship has been the pride of the Trading Company for over a decade now, and I'm the second captain to commandeer it. Before my time, it was known as The Star of Miranda, but after the previous captain got killed in that whole debacle with the Darkstar and the enormous sea serpent attacking Miranda, I was given the post. I didn't want anyone affiliating my ship with General Haroka's tyranny, so I changed the name to better suit myself." "Ah yes, I remember seeing you do well at the Decamon Tournament! I must confess that since then I have earned the title of the Aquatic Champion of Decamon. Thus, if you defeat me, you will have the rare honor of becoming a twofold champion. But we'll have to see about that... I have chosen my hand, so please do the same. I'll flip a coin to see which one of us starts. Heads or tails?" "Well, where should I start? It's hot down in the south, but the land's fertile and green. The kingdom has had a relatively peaceful history to my knowledge, but about fifty years ago, there was an elven uprising as the Wood Elves of Salonia got into a war with the human rulers. If I recall correctly, they wanted independence or equal rights or some other crap that the humans weren't ready to give them. Anyway, things got ugly and bloody, but after decades of warfare, humans finally agreed to declare the forests around Salonia "elven preserve", meaning that it is forbidden for other races to enter unless invited. Now things are pretty stable down there, the current king Jovis is a good-hearted ruler, if a bit wimpy." Mumbasa started to chuckle. "Rumors say he had such a dominating and aggressive mother he eventually sent her away to become a mercenary. Can you imagine?!"
23. "If that's all, I pray that my Goddess and all the others are by your side on your quest. I cannot see how it will go, but I do not need visions to know it won't be easy." The party of six then left the Hall and made the short way to the harbor, where they sought out The Sealion, a large, bulky and gaudily painted trading vessel. They were greeted by the captain, a straightspoken but easy-going werelion who introduced himself as Mumbasa. "Welcome on board the finest ship that has ever sailed the Crystalline Sea - and don't let those bolsterous Bonapartes tell you otherwise! The Mistarian Trading Company might not be as rich as your Hinckwells and Shadeauxes, but we bow to no king or lord. We're an independent company stationed in the Three Freewomen - that's the beautiful cities of Miranda, Elia and Valeria, if you didn't know. Harrumpf, but I see that I'm now boring you with minute trivia. As honorary passengers, you get to drink and eat as much as you wish. And I wouldn't mind playing a round or few of Decamon, if you're interested. I've been gathering some rare and valuable cards ever since my bitter loss at the Decamon Tournament, so I won't be as easily defeated this time!" The werelion captain pulled out a deck of cards and flashed them at the party. Was anyone interested in challenging the captain?
24. Once the preparations were made, Byblos lead the party out of the library and into the entrance hall, where the two aforementioned women were already waiting for them. "I've been in contact with that lousy son of mine", Scheherazade told them. "He will meet you at the port of Miranda, on the northern coast of Mistaria. He says he's gotten a 'new ride', whatever that means, that will take you to Goetia. I on the other hand managed to make you reservations on the next ship bound to Miranda. The Sealion belongs to the Mistarian Trading Company, so they should have no trouble getting you there. Captain Mumbasa awaits you in the harbor, just tell him you're from Heroica." "With the practicalities out of the way, there is something I wish to share with you. It concerns the incident that took place at the Oracle's Shrine two years ago. The man who stole the Pandemonicon from the ruins of Azzurat killed my priestess Liandra during his escape through the shrine. At that time I had a vision of heroes of Heroica finding that man in Goetia. When I heard about Sham Poo's sightings, I knew the time was upon us when the man would be rediscovered. I then had another vision - no, more of a flashback - of that man. Byblos had told me he wore a wide-brimmed hat before, but only then I remembered I had seen that kind of a hat twenty years ago, when my husband, King Nebukadnezzar XIII Azzurati, first got his hands on the Pandemonicon that brought ruination to our homeland." The Sand Queen closed her eyes and waved her hand, and a vision flashed before the heroes' eyes. "A wisewoman calling herself Brahne came to our court, offering my husband a gift of immense knowledge and power. I warned him about taking such gifts, but he was always a power-hungry fool, so he refused to listen. This Brahne had an apprentice, a young boy wearing an overly large hat. He never spoke his name, only that he was from Dastan and that the hat was the only thing he had from his father. Now that we have slowly connected the dots, I know that Brahne was in fact the mindflayer Baba in disguise, and that boy was the very same man that is responsible of Liandra's death. Looks like he returned to Azzurat to steal back the Pandemonicon, but not before testing his abilities to summon archdemons through it. If he was indeed trained by the sorceress, there's no telling how dangerous of a foe he is, so please tread carefully. You are among Heroica's finest, so I trust you will put an end to what seems to be a demonic invasion, but just be prepared for anything." The Sand Queen then gave a long, examining glare at Monk Pretzel. "There are no traces of Baba's influence left in you, Monk, but you shouldn't let your mind be swayed by anything you see on your trip. That mindflayer has had thousands of years time to gather her powers, so it is still unclear to us how far they extend. If her apprentice has even an ounce of her talent in him, you should not take him by a stride." "So we only have to defeat a horde of demons, one to four archdemons and a powerful sorcerer trained by Baba, who also holds another Pandemonicon. Why don't I feel very secure with just six of us heading out there?" "With the instabilities in Eubric, there's just no one else to spare. You might get help from Heartland, though, but I've heard it's armed forces are severely lacking. And they're not protected by our organizations anti-death spells. Anyway, you better make sure that accursed son of mine won't get killed in the process, or else I will serve you bilgewater for the rest of your lives here. And tell him mother says hi." "So, are there any more questions before you head to the harbor?" Byblos groaned and shook his head. "I have a few concerning Heroica's hiring policies, but I'll leave them to another time..." 25. QM Note: I hope I got everything changed correctly. Just saying right off the bat that rolling battles for you guys will be a nightmare... A hint of horror flashed in Byblos's eyes. "Shush now! We wouldn't want anyone's feelings getting hurt, would we?" The librarian caressed the back of the book gently. "Ah yes, that was a rough patch for me. I'm much better now! Scheherazade has been keeping a steady supplies of fresh bananas imported from Port Farzibar. I suspect she's in cahoots with my great aunt Hathor..." Byblos gladly accepts all the scrolls that his party mates are pushing to him. "Guys, this is too much... But thank you, I will try to put these to the best use I possibly can! Now, Goetia... It is a rural town located in Northern Heartland, in what they call the Garmadonic Highlands. Scheherazade has been in contact with her son, Sham Poo. He will be waiting us in the port of Miranda, and I believe a voyage for us has been arranged in one of the ships of the Mistarian Trading Company." Byblos spread out a map of Heartland and it's surroundings as he spoke. "I agree. I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities to vent off your frustrations in Goetia. The Sand Queen's visions confirm that the storm Sham Poo described is caused by an immense rift between dimensions, and you all know that anything could come out of such rifts. Most of all demons." "Pandemonicon told me that such a large tearing in the dimensional wall can only be opened by a powerful mage with the help of a powerful demon. We might have to prepare to face yet another archdemon, I fear. With three of the seven out of the way, there are four options which one it might be: Abraxas, Rosier, Marilith or Leviathan. Take your pick. Now, if everything is settled, we should head to the entrance. Scheherazade is waiting for us there, and the Sand Queen wanted to have a word as well."
