  1. That is neither here nor there. It's still a work in progress. One thing is for sure, those skeleton's were once people that did not die from natural causes.
  2. You're right of course. Both of my PTV MOCs only have violence implied and that was deliberate. When I finish taking final photo's I'll make up a story to go with it, which should help. This is a tale about buried treasure but the sub-text is buried trash. Imagine being thrown into a 12m pit, probably breaking an arm or leg and then left in the dark to starve to death. That does sound plenty cruel, much worse than the quick death from a cutlass.
  3. BSB would be built the same day I had it in my hands, regardless of the state of the box. I never fully appreciate the design and beauty of the model until I have built it. Looking at the plans is just not the same.
  4. Thanks. What I really like about the people in this forum is there amazing eye for detail. MoWo even spotted the broken fig. I spotted that just after posting into flicker and thought that no-one else would notice. The chairs in the boat was a bad idea, I knew that. But I have 36 of these brown chairs and can never find a use for them. The golden chest is from an Indiana Jones set 7622: Race for the Stolen Treasure. It's actually the ark from the first movie, "Raiders of the lost ark" I decided against adding too much rock at the top as it closed everything in too much and the doors become too hidden. One of the details I liked in the draft was the half buried fig. Once the extra depth was added at the top this was no longer possible. The way I see it is the sand at the top is just a slice. Below that (not shown) is much rock and earth but is not present because of the cut away. It's a strange shape. The treasure room could have occupied under the water as well. But I really like the fact it's just on the sandy side. I also love the contrasting colours on the top surface but down below only the gold shines. I could add plants, spiders and blood, it will make the lower section very colourful as well and I'm not sure that is a good thing, what do you think? Anyway thanks so much for all the advice.
  5. You got me wrong, I thought it was great AND it made me laugh. You should film some more.
  6. Nice Tutorial and it's already bearing fruit. Guss's walk and fall made me spit out my drink....ha. You have the motion very well, but there's always been a few things that bothered me about mini-fig stop motion. When they walk they get a pigeon bob thing going as they don't continuously move forward they only move on some frames to meet the stud. And when they run, they actually get closer to the ground when their legs spred, but in real life when the legs are split the character should go up a little. But that's what gives brick films a destinctive look, it's not bad, it's destinctive. Anyway good Tut captain, the only suggestion I would make is always tape down your base plates so the it doesn't move during the filming process. Now to make them dance.........and sing!
  7. I started with what I thought was a cool idea. Burying mini-figs in the sand of a beach. Until a friend pointed out that it's already been done plenty of times and way better than this. After a rethink I came up with the idea of a secret room where Blood Beard buries his treasure.
  8. Vig. 33a The Legend of Captain Blood Beard - Part II Blood Beard's piracy on both land and sea had netted him a considerable fortune which he was forced to frequently bury. In keeping with his brutal nature he would also bury some of his trash. Most often this would be the original owners of the treasure but sometimes it was a member of his crew that was exhibiting mutinous tendencies or just one he didn't like.
  9. Phew, thanks for that Phred! I changed the 1st post to show the entry and added the original 1st draft here just in case someone wants to see it.
  10. So the amount of overhang is acceptable then? I tried the cannon + victim within the confines of the base and it did fit, but just didn’t have the same visual impact, this looks so much better.
  11. The canon ball death is very well done, I like it alot.
  12. Wow thanks for all the help people, I'm quite new to pirate theme and Classic-pirates.com is tops in my books. This is such a great forum; I have posted MOC's at other sites and not received a single reply. The hands are funny as I do not have many pirates and all but one have red hands and legs. I'm quite sure I bought them that way but I couldn't find the exact set reference anywhere. Oh well, I agree that without a sword fight they need changing. I don't have many suitable animals and I was deliberate in not using any blood, the horror is implied only. One of my favourite touches was the officer's hat, even with his pending demise he is oblivious and clings to it. The irony being that without a head it is hardly worth keeping. I'll do what I can to complete it with my limited bricks and take some more photo's soon. Thanks again for all the advice.
  13. Vig. 32d The Legend of Captain Blood Beard - Part I Blood Beard was infamous for his cruel and unusual punishments. Trade ships that he commandeered would often have a number of surviving captives which he took great delight in torturing. His signature torture method was appropriately named "The Colonic Canon Ball" or CCB. The procedure involved stocking a canon with a regular issue of gunpowder but with a reduced sized ball. The victim would be loaded head first into the canon, which when fired, would result in the shot entering through the top of the head and exiting out the butt.
  14. Great MOC you made there Zuloo. Love the throne. Here's some suggestions: - the image size is massive (should be 800 x 600 or less) - the photo is not doing your work justice - the lighting is good the picture just needs a tweak on capturing the composition - be nice to see both pirates faces at least the captain - the entire MOC should be visible (top skull is cropped)
  15. Caploo Zutain, I disagree that the majority of my questions have been adequately addressed. In fact after drafting my post I went through and read every previous post. I'm glad you could find the time to answer some more. Do you know of any Lego sets which contained bald pirate figs? And can pirates use any hair? I have only ever seen skeletons in pirate sets with bald stud heads and all the pirates I have seen have hats. Many answers can be interpreted differently due to their subjective nature. So I was seeking clarification. For example, I have only two boats in my entire collection and was asking if a 6057 knights boat, packed with pirates and with a pirate sail was eligible. So one last clarification. LDD or digital work will not be accepted BUT backgrounds can have digital manipulation. So can we have real lego Moc’s displayed with LDD backgrounds? So staff determine eligibility, but are they judging the competition? Tell me you're not one of the judges, aaaaarrrrg, I'm sunk. As for off topic posts, I stand by my original assessment. It took me quite some time to trawl through 90 posts seeking some answers. And IMHO naked mini-figs should be allowed to show off their banana’s and water built with plate looks the best.
  16. There's a lot of messages here to wade through, thanks to all the off-topic posting. I wanted to ask some questions: - Does a Moc have to be normal orientation, or can I build a skinny boat that is standing on it's nose and on a small base? - We have to use pirate mini-figs (set in the Caribbean somewhere roughly in the period from 1600-1800) does anyone have set references (range of set numbers?) or would any fig in the pirates category on Lugnet be ok? - Do all mini-fig pirates have hats, or do some have hair or bald? - We can use custom sails, so can we use all other Lego set boats, specifically the very cool 6057, without that sets figs, with pirates added and the boat with a new pirate sail. At what point does it become a custom and ok to use? - Who will do the judging, is it public voting or EB staff only? - Is it considered better protocol in EB Moc's to use tiles instead of studs showing for water?
  17. MISB, not for long. What kind of idiot would open that box and build the Barracuda? I'm just that kind of village idiot, as I missed the opportunity the first time around. I have 3 pirates and 1 flag (jolly roger) in my collection, it's a big ask but I'm ready for the rules.
  18. REPLY. I'm here to help, you can send them to me!
  19. Lego is great for building just about anything, not just slot cars but it's great for race scenery as well. I made some Lego slot cars awhile ago in a smaller guage using afx motors and track. Bikes Lego pits And trains are the best background for race tracks Lots of pictures in the racing section at Bodville and high quality movies too. http://home.netspeed.com.au/mephisto/bodville/default.html Lego Racing on YouTube (low quality) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mVb--2ji1o Bodville movies on YouTube (low quality) http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer...mp;search_type=
