What Ever Happened to the Train Engine Shed?
pe668 replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I started building a turntable and was going to build a shed from the two train sheds I have. After I opened the 2nd set I discovered that all the bricks are bley not grey? I can't beleive TLC would change from grey to bley with the same set. : ( With the people that have the train shed set, I wonder how many have old grey? -
What Ever Happened to the Train Engine Shed?
pe668 replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The one set I would really like to see available is the coach from Emerald Night available separately. I'd buy a few of them if I could. As for the Train Shed, it's excellent I have two now. When they were running them out at shop@home they were 1/2 price. I just about fell off my chair when I spotted they were also sold out. The other total winner for me was the hobby trains. Cargo Depot (4555) is a great set. I paid way to much for one from Germany on Ebay. But I'm glad I did, it gave me the idea to put AFX motors inside lego cars (Check out more pics and movies of my Lego Slot Cars at the Bodville website) And I also built a mindstorm automated crane from the base of this set (4555). (Check out more pics and movies of my mindstorm Gantry Crane at the Bodville website) I have always regretted not buying when I saw it in the shops. -
"I liked the film but it just wasn't scary enough" - Anonymous I hear you. It started to build suspense but fell flat, only the main character got scared, not the viewer. Keep in mind this is a family film (rated-G) but I made a new ending. New and improved, now with more scary bits.

Ghost Train Entry I made a carnival ride Ghost Train which uses a technic 9volt motor to turn the entire MOC. The train itself is fixed to the base so you can see all the rooms of the ride as it rotates. Here's some more pictues. Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 I also made a Brickfilm so you can see it in action. Captain Zuloo and pe668's Great Steam Train Journey
pe668 replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If you stick you head out the window, wear sunglasses. Soot in your hair is not so much an issue but get some in your eye and that's another story. -
Very nice work, it has a great cartoon feel. Not a big fan of the colour scheme in the photo but I'm sure it looks better in real life. Much to like, too much to discuss. On the negative side, the railings are a bit weak compared to the rest of the model. The number of stairs was also a bit dangerous, needs a flat section like on the station side. It lacked any real cover for passengers. The lamp post were fantastic but were positioned over the rail not the platforms. All these things made it toy land despite the very clever build techniques. Still overall, a brilliant MOC well done. <Jealous>

You have made so many excellent trains in the past and this is no exception. Bravo!
-
Well you haven't wasted the extra studs. 8-wide allows for extra detail and you have done a very fine job.
-
The rolling stock is really good but totally outshined by the BR 80 steamer. Wow, that's some nice work.
-
I really like that fact there are studs contrasted with the snot design. It gives it a real structural feel.
-
Proportions can be a real issue with 6-wide trains. The alternative to going 7 or 8-wide is to lower the height but then there are other problems with doors and mini-figs. Anyway onto the MOC. The orange livery is fantastic. It would be great to see a long line of these. The rarer colour could be obstacle. Not much to fault here, it is a great build. However the front door is hanging precariously. One last thing, if you going to photograph a MOC best not to have it de-railing, doh! Great MOC I really like this one.

Nice work, the colour scheme is fantastic. There's much to like about this MOC. Just 2 small points caught my eye. The windows in the doors were signaificantly smaller and the real life had more black (light surrounds and underbelly). Neither matters all that much when the end result is this good. Just be careful, as the rules stated one photo, it would be a real shame if it wasn't judge because of a technicality.
-
That's a serious MOC. With TLC saying they won't release the Emerald Night coaches separately. It's a great use of all the extra pieces from the EN sets. Cab forward is a freaky looking design but you have done a great job. I really like the boiler work. There has been quite a few trains lately using Cheese pieces for boilers but I think yours looks much better. Just be careful, as the rules stated one photo, it would be a real shame if it wasn't judge because of a technicality.

Wow that's a sweet looking wagon. The main critisism is it looks so good I want to copy it, but one wouldn't be enough I would need a string of them. The brake looks a bit fiddly and fragile, fine for a photographed MOC but rolling stock should be rolled. The tent works very well. Nice work, very nice.
-
You should be. You've done a great job it looks great. If only it was red. <wink>

ENTERED The Ghan is a passenger train operating between Adelaide, Alice Springs, and Darwin on the Adelaide-Darwin railway in Australia. Celebrating 80 years in 2009 Operated by Great Southern Railway and with locomotives provided by Pacific National, the journey takes 48 hours to travel the 2,979 kilometres (1850 miles). The service's name is an abbreviated version of its previous nickname The Afghan Express, which comes from the Afghan camel trains that trekked the same route before the advent of the railway. My latest train layout has a large bridge with a lower table section specifically for pirates. The different height tables keeps the two themes very seperate. Still a work-in-progress, there's no pirate ships in this pic. In the past I have incorporated race cars. Lego body on (AFX) slot cars. The coolest thing about Lego with slot cars is all the great trackside buildings that you can make. Oh and slot bikes are way cool. They go nice and fast so be sure to watch the video of them in action. Speed King Video

Very nice work. The 2 wheel pony truck gives plenty of space for some excellent piston design. The carriages are also good, except the green one is not up to the high standard of the others. The carriage bogies look good but with a full stud between the wheels it's not going to roll very well around the tight Lego curves. Speaking of track, 9volt looks so much better with the shiny rail. But alas I'm splitting hairs here, it's an awesome MOC. Well played.

Welcome to My website (click logo above) details most of my Train MOCs and layouts. Lego trains are the reason I left the dark ages. I bought my first set (4563) in 1992. The rest of my purchasing history is occasionally recorded here. Lots of photo's, track layouts and movies on my website. Here are some from my public exhibit in 2008. My last major MOC is a twin train bridge.

[old] Brick Flick Technique: Jumping
pe668 replied to Captain Zuloo's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Good stuff Capt Zuloo but I wasn't sure why you chewed the yellow plates? Ha ha Just kidding. Can I add that for the jump to looked less weird, swing the arms up and into the jump frames and have them return after the landing. Animation 101 would also suggest a little anticipation before the movement. In the masking exercise while the updated frame is in your paint software also add a shadow underneath. Mini figures maybe stiff but can still do all sorts of motion and I have an example. In my 2nd brickfilm I had the main character dancing and at 0:33 he does a back flip. YouTube HD -

DC power is like a garden hose. The speed of the water flow is voltage and the thickness of the hose is how much current (amps). If you add a 2nd 9volt regulator you don't get 18volts at the rail, you still only get 9volts but with more current. One regulator will happily run two motors with low load. If you have a big train then you need more motors to distribute the load. More motors means more regulators. I typically use two motors on my medium sized trains to reduce the load on the motor (longer life). Oh and the speed train is fantastic with the big sweaping turns. TLC should make different radius curves (another topic perhaps)

Thanks again your comments it really helps me to make better films. It's hard to get constructive criticism from YouTube viewers. I have in the past concentrated on CG animation but I’m really enjoying stop-motion and Lego for building it’s an excellent medium to work with. The robots ended up being very fun design and to animate. John wasn’t so much an intellectual, more a man of action. To contrast Frank who was timid. Great that you didn’t care much for these characters that was kind of the idea. To soften the impact of their final fate. I tried to give them dark traits to their personalities. Originally I had planned for John to kill all the pirates but I changed my mind at the last minute. It would have been too over the top. The same was true for the robots. Iain totally dogged his mate as soon as the rescuers arrive. Robert wasn’t much better by domineering over Iain when he wasn’t getting his way. Perhaps the robots were still a bit too cute I should probably use them again in my next movie, maybe a love story?
