Believe it or not. I spend most of my spare time refreshing the sub-forum page and waiting for something to happen. But long battles make the game a chore. They really do. They REALLY really do. Because player interaction is what this game thrives on, not ingenious boss fights that encourage me to post "Repeat" or "I do as the party leader says" those things get boring really fast. I know nothing about being a Qm but I'd say that having low health high level enemies might be the way to go. I'm currently active on another forum, Tamriel foundry, and thier Rp section is really unstructured, and has no mechanics. Hell, that thing is entirely story/player driven, and we still get 60 page threads. But the problem with it is that it's full RP, apart from plot it's just the same thing happening over and over again. Whereas heroica has proper mechanics. My advice on keeping a quest interesting is to break up the plot with battles. Not the other way round. (Breaking up the battles with plot) And to keep battles short.

I do, of course have the most masculine icon. The weighted companion cube.

I see people entirely as their avatar.

Sarge signs up for quest #100
-
I need to get onto quest 100. Who's still in the hall? And how soon is the Baltarok saga to finishing?
-
I can't change my name or title so......

But the cake is a lie.

I've been playing far too much Payday 2 and what Scuba suggests, a large map with an objective and multiple solutions and ways to achieve that objective, combined with planning, shopping and various other thins, would be awesome. For example robbing a bank. Or a jewelry shop.

We need a heist quest.

Loved it, a very good wall of text and very entertaining to read!

The demonic scissors are for shaving and Conspirator is a purely ceremonial sword.

Sarge quickly puts his name down for Quest #98 "Last I saw him he was at the Arena. But he could be anywhere. We can probably find people who've seen a massive freaking tentacle monster."
-
Sarge stabs the daggers onto the tables. They are covered in black ink and small pieces of tentacle still cling to the blades. "Mate. If I were drunk, I'd be hiccuping and staggering. Do I look like a drunk to yer? Actually, don't answer that. Trust me on this one sir. I wouldn't lie to yer."
-
Yes. That is how I have 53 games on Steam and have backed 3 kickstarter projects.
-
Sarge comes bursting through the side door to the Arena and pushes past Grimwald and Oilan to talk to Pretzel. Panting for a second, he stands up straight and says "Right, listen Pretzel, sir. I may sound crazy but I aint. I were just in the arena. Fighting that Arthur lad, and I was winning as yer can guess. But he changed into some tentacled monster in his rage he did. Kid must have been fiddling around with dark magic. Aparently he betrayed the party that were going after that Wren witch. Anyway he's a demon mate and you know what needs to be done to demons. So get yer weapons together and let's hunt."

Sarge grips the younger man's hand, but then, before he can react, the Black Knight yanks the mage off his feet, hitting the chiseled stone of the Arena with a thump. He aims to follow up with a lethal slash of his scissors, but the younger man nimbly rolls out of the way. Arthur struggles up on one arm, trying to clamber back to his feet, but Sarge knocks his support and his breath out from under him with a pair of well-aimed kicks. By now, Arthur's had enough. Twisting his body impossibly far around, the once-man lifts his body with one hand while pointing the other at his opponent--a flurry of inky black tentacles bursting forth. Not caring to hide his ability any more, he directs the gelatinous tendrils to snake around the recovering Sarge, pulling his peg leg from under him, pinning one arm and lifting him into the air by his throat. Levitating himself and his prey into the air, the Mystic Knight's eyes are consumed with black as he attempts to choke the life out of his foe, but even unable to breathe the old man stubbornly clings to consciousness, stabbing one blade of his scissors into the tentacle strangling him and dragging it along its length as Arthur screams. Suddenly, a curved blade whirls through the air, nicking the strands of fibrilous tissue and pinning Sarge's scissors to the ground. His concentration shattered, Arthur's tentacles retract and revert into his natural form, and both men fall to the floor. "That's...enough!" The Veteran stands fuming above the rails of the Arena, a second falx blade in his hand ready to throw. Seeing no retaliatory attack imminent, he jumps the rail into the pit, and both combatants stand back from his approach. "Copper Fox, he--" "I don't want to hear it. You," he says, pointing to Sarge, "Out. You'll get your weapons back later." He stares the old man down, until it's clear he has no choice but to comply. "Regulus--follow me." Sarge quietly picks up the scissors, and sprints to get help. Ooc: Thanks Flipz for letting me steal collaborating this with me!

Goddammit Kyle Flipz, I can't roleplay losing!
-
Dammit, didn't think of it like that, This is why I need to host a quest before trying to suggest rules! On another, completely different note. I can't wait to see what happens when we all hit level 30, because some of the classes are veering away from combat. Alchemists, create potions. These can be sold to Portia, given to party members, etc. And then Minstrel. Minstrel is based around singing songs to defeat enemies and buff allies. But they also have Diplomacy and, perhaps in Rp, could use their songs to lots of ends. I really want to see a merchant alchemist. I know it would be selfish to withhold potions from the party but I still think it'd be really cool.
-
There's a level of experience as reward for the quest, so you are guaranteed to get to level 30 unless the quest is failed. All I can say is that it was a dick move, that you've rectified, so the matter is over and everyone forgiven. Now that's all over Let's go back to praising Qm's for the lovely quests they provide. Also, K-nut, you're up to host the arena rounds for me and Flipz. If not, can somebody else please run the rounds?

Skyrim is a great exception, where anyone can use any weapon or armour however it's pretty much built into the game that low level characters can't get hold of high level weapons. In an MMORPG, for example, there have to be level restrictions, Because enemies are set unless you have a really great instanced scaling system And items can be traded. However enemies are flexible in this because we are human and can change the planned battle specifically for the party. If a low level character has a highlevel weapon can't the QM just scale the battle, or at least some of the enemies, up?

"And I, accept" (Equipped artifacts: Black knight's armour, Pegleg of hastening; Equipped Weapons and shield: Demonic scissors, Serpenthead shield) Sarge draws the scissors, and raises the serpent-head shield. Sarge attacks arthur (Double) twice from the front row! Mental kid, I'm prolly gonna lose this. Still, wonder why 'e was so scared of... Wossaname. Regret. Direct as always, sarge says in a slightly raised voice as so Arthur could hear him "Why were yer so freaked out when I told yer 'bout that crab fella?"
-
Arthur is pretty well matched to fight Sarge. I'm probably gonna lose if we fight, and that's gonna be hard for me to roleplay!
-
Slightly drunk, his judgement rather blurred, Sarge looks up at the mention of his name. "Look 'o's back from being haunted. Yeah'right kid, I'll take yer on."
