  1. Possibly the chess set? Or is that a Shop@home exclusive?
  2. A similar project, this: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/25002 The snob in me ought to be sneering at the way it's all closed up in a box and all that, but I actually quite like the set and props. He's using big, chunky, expensive pieces, sure. But it's actually really cute, and totally convincing.
  3. Let's think about minifig parts that still need re-using. Series 8: ruff, diving helmet, headphone hair, fairy wings, long hair cowboy hat, santa hat. Series 7: Viking helmet with long braided hair, galaxy patrol armour, ocean king's crown, hippie hair, laptop?, bunny suit head, tamoshanter, bagpipes, aztec headdress Series 6:, statue of liberty crown, clockwork robot head, teddy bear?, surgeon cap, toolbox, genie tail, classic alien head, minotaur head, roman helmet Series 5: Egyptian Queen hair, gladiator helmet, graduate hat, lumberjack axe, bearskin, deerstalker, lizard man head Series 4: Hazmat hood, sailor cap, gnome cap, paintbrush, palette Series 3: Gorilla suit head, native american headdress Series 2: Spartan helmet, sombrero, pharoah's staff? Series 1: caveman beard?, clown horn? The reason for the list is that it might be more profitable guessing figures based on the parts Lego have to re-use to try and offset the moulding cost. A few may find their way into the new space theme, such as the galaxy patrol armour and the classic alien head. But for the rest... There are a few minifig accessory packs that are begging to be made. Legionary/Spartan/Gladiator. DONE. Gorilla suit/Lizard Suit/Bunny suit. DONE. Genie/Minotaur/Leprechaun. DONE. Quite what's stopping Lego from doing these all at once I don't know. It's not like they have to jostle for shelf space. I do wonder about that Sombrero. Where else could you use it except on another Mexican? The big possibility would be a mariachi with new moulded acoustic guitar, which would be absolutely fantastic. The surgeon's cap has one very obvious re-use - someone in the shower. Think about that for a second. Yeah. Obviously he/she would need a towel to cover their dignity. The ruff could be used on practically anything and I'd want to buy it. My hope? A Lego take on Elizabeth I. It's a long shot, but it'd be totally worth it. The paintbrush and palette lend themselves to a Friends set. Maria's Art Contest Showdown or something like that. Unless it's already been done - I'd hardly be surprised.
  4. It's not so much being refused the licence, but the other company not having confirmed one way or another yet.
  5. My own theory is that one company or other are dragging their feet over licensing issues. In a perfect world we'd have had word of the picks by now. Someone's stalling, and that's stopping Lego from even telling us what's going to happen.
  6. once punched a bee.

  7. Check the thread. (actually earlier this morning while I was at work. But still)
  8. Fancy a pressie? ADHO15's Jedi Temple by bobsy26, on Flickr If you want the 1440x900 original, sling me your email address and I'll send it along. Oddly enough this was one of the quickest renders I've done. Mostly I think because the transparent pieces are so far off and small in the image they didn't dominate the render. Compared to yesterday's mini-model of the Lady Luck which took 16 hours, this was a doddle.
  9. Well if anyone's in a position to see if those parts fit inside a planet shell it's you. And to be honest, from my version of the model, it would be possible to shave of a layer or two from the top or bottom, as well as simplifying the internal structure. It's not so far over the piece count as to be impossible, I'd say. ANYWAY. Part 2: Lady Luck with Lando Calrissian by bobsy26, on Flickr I know the Lando minifig sucks, but my attempts to give him custom decals utterly failed (after it had gone so smoothly with Thrawn...)
  10. Since it's the same handle for 90% of all lightsabers, I try and vary it up to keep things fresh. It doesn't really matter which way round, does it?
  11. If you mean the hull pieces from 1989, no. Your alternative is LDraw. There's a forum about all this here on Eurobricks. You definately should look.
  12. Yeah, if you want the instructions to make sense, you'd need to do it by hand. I've followed LDD-generated instructions many times, and they can get utterly barking at times. It has no sense of symmetry, so near-identical parts on either side of a model can be interprested in entirely different ways. Also it will do its level best to ignore model stability, so there's that.
  13. The big photo of the Lego design office (which I can't find right now) has a massive and detailed prototype of a UCS Probe Droid on their big display shelf. It's a safe assumption that they decided against putting it into production, so I wouldn't get your hopes up of seeing it any time soon.
  14. There is already a very similar project that has a lot of buzz. The large number of comments mean's it's got a permanent spot on the discover page, too.
  15. My request. A basic face template with the standard eye/mouth proportions of minifigs on current release (e.g. Collectable Minifigs, Superheroes etc.) in the dimensions used by LDD for its face decorations. That is to say, as wide and tall an image as the images that LDD uses. And by preference, with a transparent background. The reason for this is that LDD2PovRay has a facility to replace one decoration with another while rendering, but I've not had much success with the ones I've pinched from this board.
  16. Asking people on Eurobricks to not get too excited when there's no information is like asking a polar bear to be less furry.
  17. I know I'm inviting mod-wrath by not posting this in the minifig customisation board, but it pertains to LDD2PovRay directly, so: Can anyone set me up with png format templates for faces, torsos and the like in the precise proportions that LDD uses? I've done some errant fumbling with the decals others have made but with no real luck and as far as I can tell LDD does not allow you to copy/edit/view the decorations files at all. A file with a basic face to help with positioning eyes and mouth, as well as the correct dimensions to ensure it doesn't squish or warp when used with LDD2PovRay, that'd be grand.
  18. Very nice. Can I recommend that you render it in LDD2Povray?
  19. I think it's more a case of being a kid-friendly and wallet-friendly version of the Super Star Destroyer. Both represent absolutely huge ships, neither are built to minifig scale, but both have minifig-scaled interiors to act as playsets. Granted, the Malevolence isn't exactly cheap at £100, but compared to the £350 SSD, it's something parents can at least consider without choking on their lattes.
  20. Just a quick bump to say that the project has reached 100 supporters! Huge thanks to everybody that's supported so far, and if you haven't lent your support please consider doing so! Reaching 100 supporters is a proper milestone, but there's still a long way to go! EDIT: Just realised I've never posted this picture here (or indeed anywhere other than Flickr). Enjoy! 21. I decided to finally render this in Povray while I was at work, and coming home just eight and a half hours after starting it going... it had only reached 51%. Thankfully, that 51% included the lion's share of the windscreen, so the rest actually rendered pretty quickly. I made a couple of small changes. On recommendations, I switched the colours around on the cargo section so they're in line with the rest of the speeder. Then I put a crate in there. Because, you know, crate. 22. See, it's this kind of rationality that puts me in a good mood, and can sometimes be in short supply among collector communities, sadly (spend some time among Transformers collectors... *shudder*). If you don't like the price, you don't need to buy it. That's how buying things is supposed to work, but so often we see something desirable and lose all rational thought because MONEY BE DAMNED I HAVE TO HAVE THAT SHINY THING! So yeah, you've pretty much summed up my thoughts on this set (except I'm not middle aged, and I don't have any kids. Hopefully). It's a nice set, but I don't really want it. I certainly don't NEED it. I don't NEED any Lego because I'm an adult and I don't need to buy children's toys. Every Lego purchase is based on want, and I don't want to pay £150 for it. £50? I'd consider buying it. But since it won't ever go at that price I needn't worry.
  23. I blame Night Elves.
  24. Just go into preferences in the edit menu. As an example of a screenshot with this option turned on: Telosian Speeder by bobsy26, on Flickr
  25. Got my first lot of 5 today through Tesco Direct. Started off on a good note with the evil robot, who's just as jolly as they say. First time I've had a robot-arm torso, so that looks like it'll be fun to re-use, as will the fantastic head print. Straight after that came Santa. Santa is Santa. A decent fig, certainly, but with no re-use potential beyond being... Santa. Really not looking forward to getting another one. Third bag was the Actor. Dear lord, if he's not everything I'd hoped for. The torso and leg prints are beautiful, the ruff is fantastic. The only thing letting the actor down is the rather basic hair, but still, I am not complaining. Give me more! More ruffs! After that was the Vampire Bat. Bleh. Not my favourite, but the head print could have some value elsewhere. It's odd how these figs have the most innovation in minifig shapes since they were given arms in the first place... but they're still not all that exciting. Last was the Diver, and he's just fun personified. The helmet is great, and helps show off what an appropriate head print he has. He's having a wonderful time down there on the ocean floor! Best holiday ever! Sadly I didn't get a Conquistador, but I'll be getting more of these for sure. I'm dead chuffed with this series so far. So long as I can get a couple more Conquistadors and Actors I'll be a happy chap.
