  3. My entry for the Winter Village Contest. When you're having fun down at the Winter Village Market, swing by Neptune Coffee House to get warmed up and grab a snack. We're home to the only jet powered Z-6 espresso machine in the area. We've also got flavors and mochas and javas and lattes galore. If a plain old cup of joe is your thing, we've even still got that. And cookies and muffins. You always need cookies and muffins. Stop in and see Doc. He's the guy in the Santa hat and bow tie. Because Santa hats and bow ties are cool. Enjoy! -Chris
  4. Wow, thanks to all who voted and congrats to the other winners! It was a great month with a ton of great entries; thanks to Simon for putting on an awesome batch of contests.

  7. Thanks to everyone; I'm elated that so many people share my love of this film. :) -Chris
  8. Thanks everyone! That finger design has actually been around for a really long time; I remember a lot of mecha from the early 2000's utilizing it. Probably the most prominent one (that comes to mind, anyway) would be Mark Sandlin's Deepfrah. -Chris
  9. Puny humans, so safe and happy on your dry land...well no longer. For too long we have watched beneath the waves as you played, swam, fought and stole from our domain. You've brought this fate upon yourselves, for now you will know what it is like to have your domain invaded. We have developed new technologies (which is amazing considering our lack of thumbs, or hands altogether) and now we WALK ON LAND! Run if you must, but you cannot escape The Rise. We will find you. We will kill you. And WE, we will flush YOU down the toilets from now on!
  10. Thanks all, glad you like it! -Chris
  11. My entry for the Microscale Sci-Fi Contest. I've always loved the Iron Giant. Here's one of my favorite scenes. (yeah, who am I kidding...they're all my favorite scenes) Enjoy! -Chris
  12. Here's a good place to start. From way back in the day, Jon Furman's Bag End. The first real large attempt I know of for someone doing hobbit holes. -Chris
  13. Thanks! I noticed that lots of vignettes and scenes nowadays utilize some kind of border, so I'm trying to blend the old style of showing studs and the new style of clean lines and edges. I think it's fairly successful. -Chris
  14. Much thanks! I've kinda been lurking for a few weeks and figured this contest would be a good way to get back into building, and meet some of the current online community. -Chris
  15. Thanks for the welcome guys! Gotta knock the rust off. -Chris
  16. Hey all, first MOC in...oh....8 years or so. My entry for the contest, Mos Eisley Astromech Elementary. Not a school for astromech droids...a school ran by them. Your basic overview shot. Looks like the first day of school... Tusken Raider Jr. clearly wants nothing to do with this "school" thing. The stormtrooper's kid in the background looks a little nervous too. Note the R2 unit (a pair of them) serving as crossing guards. Daddy Vader saying bye to Little Vader. Must be hot under that helmet... Playground equipment! Everyone's favorite part of elementary school was recess...including Han and Chewbacca. Clearly this Gungan has been misinformed about the diet of droid teachers... See the full gallery here. Let me know what you think; I need to reacquaint myself with the older generation of AFOLs and meet some of you new guys. Thanks, -Chris (old Brickshelf account Xcalabur, in case any of you guys remember me from a decade or so ago)
  17. My favorite parts are the stairs and the lava, and the tool used by the workers. Great job using that trash can. -Chris
  18. I think this is my favorite entry so far..."cute" in a good way. Lots of detail packed in a small space. -Chris
  19. AC! A name I recognize...I was afraid that no one from back in the day was still around. (So long ago that I forgive you if my name doesn't ring any bells. :) Anyway, really nice MOC...very kinetic feel to the whole thing. Especially the multi-leveled setup. -Chris
  20. I LOVE that Bantha. -Chris
  21. It seems like I got "temporarily sidetracked" with other things and before I knew it, a whole decade went by! Let's get the formalities out of the way. My name's Chris Maddison. If you've been part of the online Lego community for 10+ years, you might remember that name, or my "back in the day" screen name Xcalabur. Those days are long past since I'm 30 now (eek!), but the LOTR sets brought me back out of my 2nd dark ages (or is it bley ages? I don't know if that's still a term thrown around). Anyway, I'm back and I have an itch to get building again. And it seems like the online community that once revolved around a single point has been scattered to the wind, so I'm looking for familiar faces to get re-grounded. -Chris
