  1. LegoSjaak -- Wow; that looks pretty sharp! Now I'm second-guessing my decision to make only three 'custom' coaches! How many straight rail sections does your Emerald Night use? Is the XL motor enough to pull everything along okay? Thanks for sharing! Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  2. Did it ever occur to you since I currently only have one coach, I'm curious what other's results were with adding more coaches? For instance, do more than x number of coaches slow the train down or create other issues? I've already done a long Santa Fe El Capitan and this time I'd like something a bit more reasonable. Besides, I thought the whole purpose of this forum is to take advantage of fellow LEGO train fans experience... Sheesh.
  3. Here's a link to the picture from the Brickset News article: http://www.festum.de...ne-ranger-3.jpg. The engine looks quite nice and the set looks to include track, which is nice. It also looks like it may be able to be motorized similar to Emerald Night. Overall, I think this train may appeal to more train-oriented folks than the Toy Story Western Train Chase. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  4. I didn't know you could call LEGO and get parts like that; I thought only parts in the Pick A Brick were available for purchase. If I just call LEGO they'll be able to sell me some? I modified the color scheme of the coach car so I could use other color train windows available in my parts but if the brick yellow ones are available from LEGO, that may be the way to go! Thanks! Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  5. For those of you with 'long' Emerald Nights, how many coaches in your consist? What makes a 'good' length? Three or four coaches seem about right to me. I'm interested in adding to my Emerald Night by designing some 'custom' coaches based on the included reddish brown/brick yellow coach but am curious what others have done. I'm also considering some different color combinations but haven't really seen much. Thoughts? Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  6. Your christmas train is really well-designed! Excellent job! Cheers from Claremore, OK! Dave
  7. The Santa Fe sets, Super Chief and cars, are the best LEGO trains ever made, especially when used to make the Santa Fe El Capitan. Epic! The playability of 4561 Railway Express and 7898 Cargo Train Deluxe are under-rated and can't be ignored when considering LEGO trains. The low cost of 4561 Railway Express makes it a great introduction to 9V trains even today. With it's futuristic styling, engine, two train cars, three vehicles, and nine minifigures, what's not to like? Cheers from Claremore, OK USA! Dave
  8. Train Video I know it's been done and seen before but this is my LEGO Santa Fe El Capitan. It's based off the Summer 1956-1958 consist and uses four 9V train motors and two 9V speed regulators. Thank you. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  9. 6399 Airport Shuttle is such a great set! Reading this great review makes me want to pull mine out and start building! If you want, I can try to get a picture of the inside of the box with the molded plastic display tray; I think I still have it. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  10. Wow! That is phenomenal! More pictures, please!! Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  11. I think on the newer buffers with the captive magnets you can use a tile or plate to hold the magenets together. It kind of feels like you're cheating though! Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  12. Brickshelf Gallery Hopefully the above link works... I created a Brickshelf account so I could post this. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  13. Wow! Your layout is really sharp! Your Power Functions modifications are very clean-looking; I like that! If you have any more pictures to share, especially of the motor, that would be very nice. The Farm sets would go great with the Vestas Wind Turbine! 7637 Farm and 7684 Pig Farm & Tractor would fill out that area nicely. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  14. It's nice to see another fan of non-stickers! Do you have any additional pictures of your layout and the conversion to Power Functions? It looks really neat! Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  15. Howdy! A pet project of mine has been trying to come up with a TTX-style well/double-stack car for the 7939-style containers. Attached is my first attempt after some time in LEGO Digital Designer. As you can see, I borrowed heavily from 10170. 10219 and 7939 also influenced the sides and bottom, respectively. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Is there a preferred method for sharing pictures other than attaching them to a post? Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  16. If you're going for a longer car, would something like the attached work? Your post got me thinking about combining the intermodal car from 7939 and the tank trailer from 3180... Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  17. There are 8 pieces of straight track included in 4204 The Mine. The mine train is four studs wide and uses part 4600 Plate, Modified 2x2 with Wheels Holder for the small train wheels. The tram from 8404 uses 2926 Plate, Modified 1x4 with Wheels Holder and can use the standard train track although I suppose you can construct a custom base for the straight rails in 4204. Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
  18. My hope is LEGO will introduce a level of consistency in container sizes for future cargo/intermodal trains. Since the introduction of the LEGO CITY theme, there are three different container sizes which make it difficult to integrate sets together. 7992 & 7994 use a 6x10 container, 7939 uses a 6x12 container and 10219 uses a 6x16 container. The LEGO container of the 1990s was a standard 4x8 container and allowed integration between Train- and Town-themed sets. Containers from Train Sets 4563, 4537, 4549, 4564, 4552, 4555, 4565, & 4557 could all be used with Town sets 6352, 6541, & 6542 and even 4030! The inconsistency of modern container/intermodal sets is frustrating when creating a LEGO town/city using official sets. A LEGO CITY intermodal facility for 2013 spread across a seaport/harbor, cargo station, container transport, and cargo train would be most excellent! Cheers from Claremore, Oklahoma USA! Dave
