  1. Agree there. It looks like little more than a glorified memory game. All well
  2. While technically true, I just don't see that happening. I mean the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit go hand in hand and it's hard to imagine one without the other. Most people who are fans are Tolkien fans, not strictly Hobbit or LotR. If one line does better than the other I would bet it's because that line simply didn't have as good sets based off it in which case Lego needs to fix their error and improve the quality. Otherwise there is really no reason one line should do any better than the other. For this reason I don't ever think we will see one line cancelled while the other goes strong. I doubt they will do two full waves at once, one based off the Hobbit and one off LotR. I COULD see them mixing sets in a single wave though, like they did for the Superheroes line. For instance maybe in December we will get 4 or 5 Hobbit-inspired sets, then 1-2 LotR ones.
  3. They could go even further than that. They could have one for the Easterlings, Haradrim, Corsairs, Moria Orcs, Mordor Orcs, Gondor, Rohirrium, Rangers, Dwarves, and 1 or 2 for all the different kinds of elves.
  4. I think people are using it more as an army builder for the Mordor Orcs than they are Uruk-Hai, since the UHA set is obviously the much better option for army building them.
  5. Sorry there is no poll, I don't have the option to make one yet (mods, if you could attach a simple poll with a yes/no option that would be fantastic!) Anyways, I hear a number of people talking about the Orc Forge set as an army builder. Personally I don't really see it. I know we have yet to get a proper army builder set like those seen in the Star Wars line, but the Uruk-Hai Army set is at least somewhat of one. It has a good number of minifigures for $30 and it also has a horse, wall, and catapult you will want at least a few of. Sure it comes with Eomer, but I see a lot of people just using him as another Rohan grunt. What about the Orc Forge set though? This set comes with Lurtz who is also a named character and you really only need one of. Unlike Eomer, I feel it's harder to blend him in with an army and make him look like a regular grunt. His all brown/orange skin color and total lack of armor make him fairly noticeable. You can't really use armor from the other orcs in the Orc Forge set as that leaves them bald, w/o armor, or with Lurtz hair. I guess it's possible to combine the Orc Forge with a Uruk-Hai Army set and make 2 Uruk-Hai with the long black hair, only one with chest armor, and then give Lurtz the other chest armor and helm. Of course that doesn't change his skin color. Regardless of Lurtz, you only get three other orcs in the Orc Forge set for 40 bucks. This set was originally shown with 5 minifigs which would of made it significantly more appealing, but unfortunately they cut one of the minifigures out. Unlike the Uruk-Hai Army sets walls and catapults, you don't really need more than a few forges I feel. Don't get me wrong, the white hand on the helmets and shields is really cool and unique, and the Mordor Orcs also look fantastic, but for the price I just don't think it's very plausible to try and army build with this set. I am sure we will get many more sets with Mordor Orcs in the future and some may present better army building options. So my question is, do YOU view the Orc Forge set as an army builder? Why or why not? How do you feel about this set in general?
  6. I like how you responded to the guy's question about which set to buy, Orc Forge or Shelb Attacks, then you asked yourself which you should get! Of course it was Shelob Attacks vs Uruk-Hai Army set for you, but still Shelob Attacks was in question in both scenarios! Anyways I agree, Shelob Attacks was one of my favorite sets from the first LotR wave. It's amazingly priced for what you get and the spider is really well done. Overall it's just a really fun set and I would suggest getting it before most(all?) other LotR sets.
  7. Ya, I definitely can see the resemblance! Anyways, nice work mate, looks really cool.
  8. I really like the way you put Sam's cape "upside down" to give the sense he is sinking in the water! The water also looks very nice. There are tons of little details that really bring this together. Great job all around!
  9. Hehe, not a cardinal sin, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that set may not be your cup of tea. But when you say you wouldn't even buy it for 13 bucks (90% off) it makes you seem a little... crazy? That's less than ONE CENT PER BRICK!!!
  10. That's not the case online. Check here: http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=lord%20of%20the%20rings&origkw=lord+of+the+rings&f=Taxonomy/TRUS/2254197&sr=1 They have all the old "list prices", and then "their price" currently which is nothing more than MSRP. Funny thing being the old list price TRU has was never MSRP or anything, but just their own jacked up TRU price! So basically they offered the product for more than MSRP (as much as 20-30% more in some cases), and now they are offering it for MSRP but trying to make it look like they have them for cheaper.
  11. Just want to point out, if the vehicles and buildings were the main selling point of the Super Heroes themed sets, why are we ONLY getting pictures of the minifigures!?
  12. I dunno about others but I find it hard to add much detail to the LotR minifigures since they are already so incredibly detailed!
  13. Now that's a Helm's Deep! I love all the details and everything, it looks very much like it does in the movie! The crazy part is though, even with you expanding the size so much it STILL is quite a bit smaller scaled to the minifigs than the thing potrayed in the movies!
  14. They first started showing up early May from TRU (heard TRU has some deal where they are able to exclusively put some Lego sets out for 2 weeks before any other retailer.). Prices have pretty much stayed the exact same other than minor deals here and there. TRU was way above MSRP when they wedre first released but now I think they are only a dollar or two over.. most other retailers have stayed at the same MSRP though they originally offered them for.
  15. I dunno how you got it to stay, mine keeps popping off.
  16. Funny, those are the three themes I was considering collecting!
  17. We still don't know if that list is real or not though, do we?
  18. Was anyone else sort of disappointed with Legos overall showing at SDCC? What they did show was fantastic, but they only showed 2 new sets total as far as I know (Bag end and Rancor Pit), and a handful of minifigs. It would of been nice to see at least 2-4 of the Hobbit sets which still should of only been half of the December releases for it. All well, maybe at New York Comic Con? Hopefully sooner than that though...
  19. I dunno, it just seems weird to me none of the other Batman sets have been cross overs with any other super heroes in them yet. The Power Armor Lex set kind of made sense since you usually see Superman and Wonder Woman together and they have the whole love thing going on. I don't really think of Aqua Man and Batman together though. In fact they seem the furthest thing apart. Who knows though, he doesn't seem to fit in anywhere else either so... As for this being all the minifigs or not, I would be inclined to think it is. Why else would they show off minifigs like Spiderman and especially the security guard which we have already seen before? Of course part of me doesn't think it is since there are only 21 or 22 minifigs shown. Maybe they will release these early 2013 and several other waves throughout the rest 2013 to coincide with the movies coming out?
  20. Ya, I hear ya. I missed out on a lot of the earlier Star Wars sets and am a completionist so I don't even want to bother with them at this point. There would be no way to get even a fraction of all the sets available from the past ten years. Plus most the current sets seem overpriced and boring, not that I could afford them and LotR, what with my army building tendencies. I gotta say though, the new Rancor Pit pictures and the Jabba's Palace do sway me, if only a little. As for the rest of the Lego themed sets, again nothing that really sparks my interest. The Dino sets seemed kinda cool for the dinosaurs, but I think I will pass on them. I do really like the Batman sets though, and unlike the Star Wars ones you don't really need to army build with them. Plus the newer ones seem to be more or less remakes from the first Batman series, just slightly updated so it seems like a perfect time to pick them up. Not only that, the new minifigs shown at SDCC look amazing like I mentioned before so ya.. they really have caught my eye. Anyways, sorry to derail the thread, again your army looks fantastic! Kudos!
  21. Ya, I just saw your other thread and the pictures of your army where you had 3 walls across. I was figuring 3 across and 5 high so 3x5=15. Really though, if you are trying to make it as to scale as possible with the minifigs and as authentic as possible you would prolly need it 8-10 wide and 5 high so like 40-50 Uruk-hai Army sets!
  22. Awesome! I was contemplating going out and buying all the Batman Lego sets that are currently available and branching out to another them besides just LotR. This diagram makes me reconsider though. I am so torn, the new Batman minifig pics from SDCC make me want to get all the Batman sets before it's too late, but these pics make me want more Uruk-hai army sets, lol. I probably should wait till there is a decent sale to get more Uruk-Hai Army sets, that's what I told myself I was going to do, but seriously seeing these pictures makes me want to say screw it and just run out and buy 5 more! They prolly won't even be around by the time a good sale hits anyways... hmm, decisions, decisions. Btw, no Gandalf Arrives set?
  23. Impressive! How many Uruk-hai Army sets did it take you to get it that high anyways, it looks like five or so? To build a wall like that all across would take like 15 Uruk-hai Army sets and that's not even including the pieces it would require to raise the actual keep part of Helm's Deep!
  24. Very nice! How many sets is that? What did you end up doing with all the extra walls and catapults from the Uruk-hai Army sets?
  25. In all fairness that thread was more about the different ways to build a LotR inspired army and the different variations in minifigs while doing so. This thread is pictures of your own personal army! Similar threads for sure, but not exactly the same
