  1. I've always though that Lego makes a tone more on AFOLs than they think. (Though I'm not sure we'll ever really know what the stats are). While the numbers of AFOLs is undoubtedly much, much lower than the number of kids buying Lego, I can tell you I spend more on Lego than probably 10 to 20 kids combined.
  2. Well, a couple things.. I'm not wealthy, so seeing sets at even 30% less than what I paid for them does hurt. (so far this mostly only happens on Black Friday). And most of the problem here is that I then realize I could have gotten more Lego. Also I've been collecting non-stop since 1976, so I'm well beyond what people call 'critical mass'. I have sold lots of Lego, but it's always so I can buy different Lego sets.
  3. I was just talking to a friend yesterday, and he had the foresight to keep all his Kenner Starwars toys in great condition, but didn't have the foresight to sell them in the 90's when their value was at it's highest. With Lego, there was that article circulating that basically said that if you had invested in buying Lego 10 years ago, you'd have made a lot more money than in the stock market. What people don't get out of that is the expense of storing Lego, and the effort it takes to sell and ship it. (I've sold Lego, it's a pain) For me, with regard to the bubble, I'm still a collector first and foremost, so getting massive amounts of Lego on the cheap sounds great. But then there's that other side, where I've got so much, having it devalued would admittedly be a punch in the gut.
  4. Lego would make less money on toys.. but like the comics companies (now), Lego has income streams for things like movies, TV, video games, books, and general licensing that comics companies weren't taking advantage off (back then).
  5. I’ve been very fond of pointing out how the Lego collectible market is following the trends of the comics market in the eighties. Prices are climbing and people are hording, but eventually when everyone goes to sell, those prices will drop. And when the amount of sellers is greater than the amount of buyers, some Lego will be worth less than you paid for it. So the question is; Do you want the collectible Lego bubble to burst? The obvious con is that your collections will lose a tremendous amount of value, the obvious plus is you’ll be able to pick up some Lego for much less than retail. (Large comics collections from the 80’s with no particular rarity are worth pennies on the dollar)
  6. "fiasco" is a nice way to put it. I call it Lego giving the big FU to all completists and loyal fans so some #$@#$ in marketing can live out his Willy Wonka fantasy by building up and systematically crushing the hopes of millions of kids. But I guess fiasco will do. No more chase figures please. ever.
  7. yes and yes. Totally agree that's why I dislike this theme. By far the worst "Castle" theme ever. I didn't really care for Fright Knights, but I disliked the Kingdoms theme and knights even more. Purple knight, baby blue knight? I was always very into knights as a kid, but I never wanted anything that looked silly or gimmicky. I think my 10 year old self would have hated this even more than my 43 year old self does. Knights should have grey armor and a sur coat with matching shield. done. In trying to come up with something 'new' they just served up the most unoriginal derivative rip-off of an idea I've ever seen. The knights all look silly. it's hard to find anything that looks even remotely OK. The kings head looks good. Maybe a bricklink pickup when the prices are reasonable. A couple of the bad guys also look OK in a D&D sort of way. Maybe cool mixed in with either ultra agents or medieval fantasy. Over all though a pretty big fail. Sorry, couldn't disagree more with everything you wrote here. This theme is worse than childish. It's what unimaginative adults think of when they need to come up with something they think kids will buy.
  8. My thought exactly. As a Castle and Space collector I figured there would be something for me. New Shields, new armor.... Nothing. it all looks so cheap. I'm not sure how anyone is excited about this. Just awful.
  9. They just released pictures today for NYCC. Looks hideous. Sadly I think this is going to be a hindrance for future space and castle themes and I really hope it dies very quickly. Clearly TLG is putting a lot behind this, so I'm just hoping that when response is lackluster, they'll try to cut their losses as quickly as possible and maybe kill it all together.
  10. Like most here, I was really hoping for something I could blend into my current knights set up. With the exception of maybe the visors, i have a feeling that's not going to be possible. I really don't care for the studs on the shields, and the armor looks way to space age. So that doesn't leave me much in terms of new knights. For some reason the vibe I get is that this was designed by committee, based on comments by a bunch of seven year olds and people who couldn't decide between a knights theme and a castle theme.
  11. why not just go to bricklink.com?
  12. As per my previous post, really hoping the plant man has the wrong head. As a actual monster I really like this figure, as a man in a costume, not as much. Also better printing will help some of these figures into the realm of acceptable. Scientist is a lost cause. I just hope someone comes to their senses.
  13. I was really, really looking forward to a monsters theme, and this series is very disappointing. White printing on the skeleton isn't uniform Tiger girl's yellows don't match. Looks like they couldn't decide whether this was a costume minifigure or a monster minifigure. This one is somewhere in-between. Plant minifigure would have been much better as a monster with a trans-red head/teeth/piece from that Atlantis hammerhead figure. As a costume figure it doesn't fit. Mad scientist head is way too cartoony and awful. Rock star Frankenstein really needs to go as well. That and the scientist are by far the worst of the bunch.
  14. Favorite figure was probably the zombie. Had series 1 not sold out in a few days i would have gotten many more of that one. Worst figure is hands down Mr. Gold. A real unnecessary FU to completists. Overall I hope these series go on forever. As long as the quality stays high, it will never get old.
  15. I really like these as well. Like a lot of you I'm really pulling for these 8x8 sets to become 'a thing'. Also would love for someone to run a contest for 8x8 MOCs; so I can 'borrow' ideas for my own displays.
  16. I have a feeling the Scooby Doo Monsters will be different from what we're used to seeing. In Scooby Doo, there are no actual monsters, so I expect all the 'monsters' to be costume type minifigs, with human heads, zippers, etc. I love monsters but was never a fan of Scooby Doo, so I'm not sure what I'll do able this theme. As for numbering, I do believe and hope that'll we'll be getting a Halloween theme in October. Considering that the Lego movie was deemed a 'Special Series' outside of the numbering, I have to imagine that a Halloween theme will be a 'special series' as well. Further more, I have a sneaking suspicion we'll be seeing many more special series in the rotation. In fact, I almost won't be surprised if the series numbers started aligning with the year, and we started getting 1 numbered and two specials every year for a while. Surely the Simpsons are not the only Licensed theme that will get the CMF treatment.
  17. I kind of agree with this, though I think I could pretty easily come up with 16 figures. I know (or hope) the sexy witch was a joke, but I could use an older style witch. (in fact don't a lot of stories have witches that travel in threes?) And thanks to the guy who posted the ultra agents invisible man figure, I hadn't seen that. of course I'd much rather have that figure for the $4 CMF price than the $8 or whatever it will cost me on Bricklink, but that's the way it goes. i'll just cross my fingers in the meantime it's in a $12 set I can justify for just the figure. Also to those who keep predicting the end of the CMF lines.. I really don't think it will end anytime soon. They are far too popular and also serve many strategic purposes for Lego. Honestly, I really hope they keep the 3 times a year releases going forever.
  18. I doubt it as Brick Fan has posted the 'rumored' list of all the SD sets.
  19. I'm totally in favor of an all Halloween theme, though I'd rather not see any rehashes of Frankenstein. I'll take 16 new zombies though. Invisible man (either wrapped head/black glasses with bathrobe, or an actual transparent minifigure) have been long over due.
  20. Uggg. I'm really very disappointed the price has gone up to 3.99 permanently, as I was hoping that was just a licensing thing for the Simpsons. Considering that's a 100% increase from Series One I really hope that translates into better quality plastic (series one was substandard plastic) and more new molds for the future.
  21. It's nice that they didn't include Mr. Gold in the Minifigures list page, as I thought that whole idea and "promotion" was just about setting up false expectations with kids. Also the Olympic figures are absent which is also for the best since these were not available outside England.
  22. while casual fans certainly out number hardcore fans, personally I don't see casual fans buying these. To me this item primarily sells to people who are pretty into it. I thought the point was they already used the molds and they probably would be pretty happy to reuse them a 3rd time.
  23. Are we sure these are Lego leaks as opposed to Decool or the like? I managed to avoid the counterfiet figures for a while but had to give in recently when they started making ones that are otherwise unavailable. (Hulk buster armor). Anyways, it would be something if these were Knock off molds. I already have two versions of the family members. I very much hope we don't get more (just in different outfits). I'd much rather use the '16' spots for other characters.
  24. Funny, I didn't care much for Scooby Doo as a kid, but I think this will do well. I really hope they don't do $200 of combined sets though. I have a feeling Lego is going to find it does much better with lower cost sets. (for instance I'll bet $20 sets sell ten times better than $100 sets). I'm kind of hoping they don't have molded heads. It's not needed.
