Potential (and quite large) Future Project
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Cousarmy0001's topic in Pirate MOCs
Ahh yes the 1600s was earlier than I thought this would be. :) I had in mind the mid 1700's. As for cranes its not so much the stand tall beasts of today, why would you need them with tall ships and rigging as you say. :) Found this image. note the bottom left. And This image, in the centre at "land" level. That was what I had envisioned. Also if a fan of POTC, jack uses one to escape in the first movie. But these may have not been around for the 1600's as my references are about the 1750s-ish. Also, mainly a British thing but, wooden rail systems were commonly used in wharfs again in mid 1750's. Forgive me, I am Australian and we didn't exist (as we do now) in the 1600's! Great progress, loving the interiors. AB -
Potential (and quite large) Future Project
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Cousarmy0001's topic in Pirate MOCs
Nice little scene developing here. I am also in the phase of revisiting my ambitious creation of fort efford, but the time I need for it is currently lacking. What I might recommend is a crane for loading/off loading ships in port. A post office.A trade centre. A military/law/customs/jail area. EDIT noticed it was there already. For the building next to the bar why not a brewery? Or a flour mill? Some other nice ideas might be a Bank, Rail roads, food markets. These were all considerations in my creation if it ever boots up again, so more than welcome to them. For references of good port style towns look at Port Townsend, and the Fortress of Louisbourg. Im not North American, but they tended to show up more in Googe searches. :) Happy building! AB -

Harbour Town in Adelaide has a clearance Target store. Its full of clothes clothes and more clothes. AND thrifty shopping mums. Never seen Lego there, and been dragged through by the GF a few times. I had noticed this thread slipping down into nothingness, was surprised. I think we're all resting pockets after the BYGO 60% off Myer sale. I am still trying to decide what the best return will be on my second LR Constitution Train Set. :S Was thinking of selling it whole for $120... any thoughts? -

For the Aussies (might be avaialable to others don't know), Ultimate Factories was on Seven Mate (73) the other night and is available online for 6 more days. Here Good interesting watch. Features the recent police station set and some very interesting interviews and LEGO history. Cheers, AB -
Cleaning and straightening out your sails
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Medievalego's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks Naf, I went for a safe little "dip" and iron with a table cloth to protect them. I wasn't keen on a overnight soak. Might try that with confidence now as mildew spots are still present. Did you have a check on the stiffness before and after. No fading of the red in the sails? Cheers, AB -

As I understand it the LR sets are to be a special exclusive to Myer for a short while before being more available in other shops. This is second hand information so not 100% on it. AB -

From a few people in the know, it seems that it is supposed to be out next week. Some sets just seem to be out a little earlier than official release. Forgot to put SA in the post, sorry! AB -

LighteningTiger, Is the lone ranger train set 20% off in Myer? - I thought Target had 20% off, is the set in Target? AB -
Sorry to bring this old review back, As always Whitefang you have out done yourself with the photos and review. I picked this set up the other day and just put it together. It is a rather nice experience to see Lego putting thoughtful effort into furniture. My favourite part of this set is the globe. I simply could not resist it. With my bottles however and why I am bringing this back to life is... I found one of mine to be slightly double printed as Whitefangs is here too. Have you found this as well? I noticed in Bricksters review he has clear crisp printing. I have also noticed people selling the bottle racks separately is anyone else still tempted by these rather nice little display shelves? I rated this set above average. For the great new pieces in it. The printed pieces are so nice! AB.

Some great points here, the couple are grandparents and they had 4 boys, I know most of them (older than me) in their collection they have a lot of classic space even a forest mans sets and have no interest in lego. I think what I will do is tell them how interested I am in the sets, and highlight the imperial sets I want the most. I only plan on buying the pirate sets not the other themes. I will also tell them to talk to the boys and make sure it is okay to sell them. I just really hope the grandchild (terror) won't stop me saving the sets. The way I found the minifigs was heart breaking, but luckily saveable. I will leave the sets made up and let them think on it. :) Thanks for the suggestions. This to me was the largest over sight of the base plate. I know some people use plates on the slope to solve the issue, but it still looks a little "off". There are some important parts missing, like flags, or flags with broken clips, I was thinking $150 was fair. Yes most of what you describe is exactly what happened nearly all bricks need cleaning. Although I almost feel like I should pay them for letting me put it together. AB.

Cleaning and straightening out your sails
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Medievalego's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks for the reply and your great post earlier, I did read your post, but I failed to notice the note about mildew . In your post the sail with the brown coffee like spill is mildew? I really hope I can get these dots out. When I am with my Lego again, will have to get some photos and try my hand at cleaning. -
"Moc": Jungle Outpost / I want the Bluecoats back

@ Matthias, in Australia we would kill to be able to do that! Next time you want to move some stock let me know, I would be interested in the actual sets if they are going at about that price! -
Cleaning and straightening out your sails
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Medievalego's topic in LEGO Pirates
I opened up my CC (I picked it up incomplete and second hand) for the first time in a while last night and found some little brown spots forming in one corner. I am keen to try to get these out. I don't mind the off white of sails but these are a little more annoying. I am thinking it is mildew or some other growing damage. Having read this thread I was wondering if anyone had anything in particular to get those more stubborn stains out? Mister Phes mentioned this was a particularly hard issue back in 2008! Any help appreciated. -
"Moc": Jungle Outpost / I want the Bluecoats back
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Matthias's topic in Pirate MOCs
This creation reminds me a little of sabre island, the tower to one side with a cannons on the other. I think it would be a great set as I also miss the blue coats. However I think expecting so many minifigs in one set is slightly unrealistic. Perhaps this MOC represents four sets. 1. a sabre island set (tower and a cannon). 2. a cannon and soldier set. 3. a minifig pack of five characters. 4. a soldier pack with accessories. This list is also quite like the offerings that were brought out for the recent redcoat sets. We may have to wait some time before we see those kind of sets again. In the mean time we are welcome to keep dreaming of more blue coats to fill our ranks. -
Hi again, Thanks good to be back, going to have to check out how classic pirates has evolved since I left. When I was last here they were running the "Pillage the village" contest and the site was rather new. Nice meeting you Joe. Most people hate the large raised base plates, I am a fence sitter on them, would prefer some brick built construction, but know that Lego wouldn't go that far for a set so having them adds to the sets size nicely. Personally I always liked the look of the raised base plate in set 6278 - Enchanted Island. It was fun and if you have the sets I really do encourage you dig them out, the nostalgia was an amazing experience for me, and has me hunting down old pirate Lego again. As for ripping them off, this kind of the focus to my question, we as collector want a good deal, but where is the balance between a good deal and being unethical towards the owners. I figure they could get about $200 for these sets from a Lego reseller pretty easily. Ahh, excellent, I had forgot about that feature. Thanks, I will use your method and edit in here what I find. Was there any reason you suggested half? EDIT: totaling up the sets and halving I got $112.25, so my guess at $200 was nearly spot on. AB.

Hello all, It has been a long time since I have been on these forums, a second dark age brought on by life and growing up. Going about my normal life I agreed to house sit for some family friends. A few weeks in their grandson is storming through the house to find a piano book. in the chaos I notice some Lego in a cupboard. By chance I catch a glimpse of a raised base plate that immediately makes me think of the Imperial Trading Post and Eldorado Fortress. I never had these sets as a kid and remember drooling over them for years in the Lego advertisements. I thought little of it amidst the young terrors invasion into what was a nice quiet week. A few days later it came back into my mind and I thought I might investigate. I noticed some tell tale signs of a good pirate collection... a large imperial flag, a mast from a ship, some rigging, my mind instantly thought there was not only a base for the Imperials but a ship as well! Then I came across the mini-figures box. Imperial guard torsos, and more importantly shakos! My heart jumped a beat and I knew this dark age man was about to regress to his golden-age-boy-self. I instantly needed to know what sets were there and if they were complete! My first question was answered quickly, locating the instructions! No more guessing, the sets include; 6245 - Harbor Sentry 6257 - Castaway's Raft 6260 - Shipwreck Island 6265 - Sabre Island !! 6270 - Forbidden Island and... 6276 - Eldorado Fortress But just then something unexpected was found! I instantly read the comic and felt my blood running cold in excitement, God I hope those sets are complete... A long story short, and a long day building later, I found all sets more or less complete. A few flags damaged, a few flags missing, and numerous broken palm leaves. Importantly, all the mini-figures were there, plus extras! - I was rather bummed to see that the Gov's hat was "toothed" so it doesn't fit very well. (not at all till some minor restoration, the insides had been pushed in too tightly) Look at these lovely imperials! You can see the sets and other things like the weapons in my Brickshelf folder here... (when open and cleaned). http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=528100 I had a really great time building these sets and wanted to share the experience with you guys. Have you ever had an awesome find out of the blue? If I was to offer to buy them what do you think a fair price would be? Thanks guys, the newly promoted, Cpt. Pegleg Blockbeard Now... Dutch VOC ship the Prins Willim, minifig scale!
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Captain Green Hair's topic in Pirate MOCs
Captain Gree... Sorry, Commander Red Hat, a long time it has been since I graced thee shores of the pirate forums, but I wanted to place my ongoing support into this project. I really hope that you have settled in nicely to the new house and that this beauty will be worked on again soon. This project stuck in my mind all the years I have been away. Keep up the hard work. Cpt. PB -
Just found this nice little creation in the MOC index. I am a fan of this building, it is simple in design, yet complicated enough to draw your attention to it. I like the ninja/ samurai styled LEGO buildings and themes. This is one of the better large castle type MOCs I have seen. Unfortunately it seems it is not done very often. It is a shame to see such few replies on your creation. I hope more people are now able to appreciate it now I have brought its thread back.

Ahh, see I have been out of touch quite a lot with LEGO as of late and other than my main themes have not kept my finger on the pulse. My personal opinion of the weapons is same as yours, they don't look all that fitting in a mainstream set. My main "old man issue" with it was that I recently sorted my collection. It is depressing looking at all the different weapons, colours and styles across the many ranges of sub-themes. A part of me wants to stand my classic castle LEGO mini-figures next to my Kingdom mini-figures and they look like they belong together. I do however value other peoples joy in variety they deserve happiness. I'll just have to invest in more "uniform" weaponry to outfit my men with. Cheers for the information about the pieces though, I found it very interesting!

Some beautiful old sets indeed. The castle period these sets are from is my favourite, thus my appreciation for your collection. They don't always have to be big to be praise worthy. :)

The Forest Mafia Sign-ups-CLOSED
Admiral Blockbeard replied to Hinckley's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
You’re definitely not getting me to jump through all these hoops you’ve got others jumping though. Your ability to make the simple, hard is too funny sometimes; their writing has been of extra high standard, they’re all trying so hard to impress. While I likely don’t qualify for the event, I thought I’d amuse myself with this application. As for favourite (Does “Australian spelling” count as a black mark out of interest?) FABULAND set 3676 Catherine Cat’s Fun Park. -Somehow the idea of playing with a bird, bunny and cat (I LOVE CATS) with an elephant appeals to me. On a side note, it has two ornate white arches in it. I work weekdays, free otherwise. -
LOVER?!?!?!? Murder solved right there... Cheating Queens, Dead Kings, Blinged up knights... Great backstory and great MOC, considering this is your second attempt, it's even better, keep up the good work! From what I can tell of the pieces here I am jealous of your collection ;)
