Heroica RPG - Quest #27: Badger Badger Badger
Khorne replied to Darkdragon's topic in The Heroica Archive
Eric strolled to Sanjay's shack. He was glad to see the exotic merchant did stock some potions. However, he only stocked the more expensive kind. On top of that, he charged more than they were actually worth. Eric gestured towards the potions. "I'll give you 10 gold each for those. I think that surely covers your expenses adequatly" -

I should have full health, Maurice healed me on the previous page. Deciding to fix the mistake of not bringing potions to the quest, Eric decided to check out Sanjay's shop, as well. Hopefully, the man stocked some useful items. -

As Eric stood there waiting for the others, his vision suddenly got blurry. Things around him started to twist and turn. His party mates' faces got all warped and funny colored. The Nord shook his head, hoping to clear the effect, but it was to no avail. Rubbing his eyes again and again, he muttered "What the ... !? That sure was some damn crazy mushroom!" Eric started smiling, then laughing first silently and then gradually louder. He didn't know what he was laughing with. In fact, he didn't really have much to laugh about, his life had gotten into a rather crappy situation lately, where drinking has become the Raider's only solace. He stared blankly at his quest mates, his eyes dull and a weird look on his face. Then, he sank to his knees and collapsed on the ground. "Eric, what the ... " he heard one his party members say, but he didn't catch the end of the phrase. For a split second, his mind went blank and seemed to leave Olegaia. "... hell is going one with you? You haven't gotten soft, have you now?" a familiar female voice said in a somewhat mocking tone. Eric opened his eyes once again. His vision was back to normal, but he sure wasn't on deck anymore. He looked around and noticed nothing but sand, white sandy beaches surrounded by an endless crystal-clear ocean. The Nord then turned to the woman. He raised his hand to block the strongly shining sun. He knew the woman standing in front of him, yet she seemed changed. A bit more worn. She still looked young as ever, but her face and clothes were filthy with ashes and soot. Her vibrant auburn wasn't in curly locks anymore like it used to be, instead some of it was plaited and shark teeth were woven into the plaits. She still had a rather pale complexion, but her cheeks were reddened by the heat. She had a scar on her right cheeck and a large hat covered her head, giving her at least some protection from the sun. If Eric didn't know any better, he'd say this woman was a pirate. "Well, have you gotten soft? Can stand the drink anymore?" she said as she took a healthy swig of her rum bottle. "Astrid, what the hell ... ?" Eric asked, visibly shocked and surprised. "You changed." "A lot of stuff has happened since you left, Eric. A lot of bloody bad events crossed me" There was a hint of melancholy in the woman's voice, but it was quickly subdued by a giggle. "Darling, you have no idea" she continued with a playful look on her face. "So, what brings you here?" Astrid continued. "Did you want to see me again that badly, huh?" she grinned, while having a seat next to Eric in the sand. She shuffled closer to him "Like the old days, huh?" she laughed. Surprised by the entire event, Eric was slow with his reply. "I just ate some mushroom. Guess I'm kind of high, then?" Again, he started laughing uncontrollably. "Crazy stuff" he managed to say in between his laughter, which was echoed by Astrid, who had another sip of her bottle. She handed Eric the bottle. As he downed the rest of its contents, he could hear her say: "Here, it'll make you feel ..." The last word of her sentence didn't quite reach him, it echoed in the vast blackness, far away in the distance: "...better" Eric felt his stomach turning, his food was coming back up. Without warning he vomitted. He opened his eyes again and noticed he was now back on the ship. His vision was still somewhat blurred. He looked up and heard one of his friends ask: "Are you feeling better?" With a thump, Eric collapsed back onto the ground. Looks like he's Oneupshroom-intolerant. Answering the question is difficult, so he just gives a thumbs-up. I still want my +1 extra health, though -

Eric pockets his newly gained coins as he munches on the Tinyshroom. "Tastes kind of funny, but not bad. Not bad at all ..." After eating the shroom, Eric feels fitter and more alive. Then he noticed the bruises and cuts the shrooms had somehow managed to inflict on him and requested a heal from Maurice. -

Eric gritted his teeth in anger. Again he threw one of the Silverwings at his target (Oneupshroom) from the back row. -

Again Eric let a Silverwing fly, it's high pitched whistle marking its path. Eric hoped he'd deal some serious damage now. Eric attacks the Oneupshroom from the back row, using a Silverwing. -

@DarkDragon: Did those Diseased Silverwings do two attacks of WP:8, or does the '2x' in the description mean that I've got two of those Diseased Silverwing sets? Pleased with the result of his attack, Eric decides to linger at the back a bit longer and takes another pair Silverwings. With great speed he throws the organic weapon at the Oneupshroom, hoping that it would hit again. Eric attacks the Oneupshroom from the back row, using a pair of Silverwings. -

Eager to try out his new weaponry, Eric clutched the diseased Silverwings between his fingers. He flung them at the Tiny Shroom Oneupshroom sending the razor sharp objects whistling through the air. While hanging in the back, he urged Maurice to heal him the next turn of combat. Eric attacks the Tiny Shroom Oneupshroom from the back row, using the Diseased Silverwings. I just love the Oneupshroom name . Edited to change targets, didn't notice Maurice's attack. -

Looking fascinated at the razor sharp scales -or wings- Eric had just received, he barely managed to mumble "thank you, Tesni". Carefully, he stored his new weapons and agreed with Namyrra's suggestion. "Yeah, some hot meal will do us good!" -

"Hell yeah, this is what I like to see" Eric said and smiled at the sight of all the precious coin he had gained. Eager for more he charged the manta once more. Eric ill attack the Manta Ray from the front row, using Grom. -

"You're mine, Manta!" Eric yelled as he took his axe, Grom, in his hand. He gritted his teeth and prepared to strike. Eric attacks the Manta Ray from the front row, using Grom (twin axe). -

Feeling well rested, Eric decided to go to the deck and find out where the others were. It didn't take him too long to spot them fishing. "Caught anything yet?" Eric asked one of the party members. -
Right now, I'm listening to Steak Number Eight, a great young metal band from here. The members are about 18, but they can sure make some freakin' good music . Be sure to check out these videos if you're into this kind of music .

Noticing Namyrra and Tesni walk in, Eric stopped talking. He turned around and adressed the two women, his usual calm and cold demeanour having returned. "Where's that sorry cleric of ours?" Not really caring much for an answer, Eric stood up. The long night and drinking had made him tired. He needed some sleep. "I bet he's still in his bed, right? I'll just go see then." With that, Eric strode to the cabin and lay onto one of the beds that didn't look like it had been occupied yet. -

Eric had trouble listening to the man's story. Even though he did not want to, memories of his own past and similar stories started to well up. Quickly, he downed his ale and gestured Cookie to bring another one. Inside, he was torn again. He wanted the memories gone forever, start with a clean slate. However, his memories were pretty much all he had left of home, his people and those he had loved and cared about. Normally Eric couldn't care less about sad figures like this one. He wasn't interested in their pathetic little lives, but somehow he felt compelled, curious, maybe even intrigued to ask the man for more details. Eric then started to speak, quietly. "The gods can be cruel patrons indeed. But I believe there is reason to their cruelty towards us. The gods are as stringest parents, testing us, pushing our capabilities in order to rise up above ourselves. For long, I was a suckling at the breast of the almighty pantheon, but past events have taught me things might be different. They placed things in another light. By losing everything, we can start anew and gain so much more. By respectfully casting aside the gods, we are free to forge our own destiny. By leaving the warmth of home and the love of our parents, we truly can become independant and become gods ourselves. That is what I believe. That is what I seek ..." Eric was surprised by his sudden monologue. He never really did care to share much of his ideas or views. They never really mattered much anyway, as the views he had were generally those shared by the traditionalist Northern populace. The raid on Jolly Roger's cave and the events there left a mark on him however, he felt changed, more mature. Eric looked down at his chest and saw his pendant hanging there, suspended from his neck. He took the silver twin-headed axe jewel in his hand and muttered once again "... a god, that's what I will become". The Barbarian's cold nature resurfaced and he glanced around the room, making sure none of the other Heroes had come in. Noticing they were not around, he answered the loner's question. "The sea is the only home I have left, it's a home none will ever take away from me. The men serving on this ship, ..., they are my kin. We are one." Eric then posed a question himself, curious to the nature and story of the man's silver trinket. "What is that your holding over there? What happened to Elana?" -
Yo dawg, I heard you like split-personalities, so I put a split-personality in your split-personality, so you can split-personality while you split-personality. Really? Your alter ego's name is the same name like that of another dude who also has a split-personality? Heroica is starting to look more like an institution for the mentally deranged than an organization of heroes . Or maybe it is a mental hospital and the characters all think they are heroes .

Heroica RPG - Quest #27: Badger Badger Badger

The galley was oddly quiet, safe for the shuffling of metal pots and creaking of the wood. The atmosphere was tense, no doubt a conqequence of Eric's earlier behaviour. The kind cook did as he had promised and regularly came to Eric's table to fill his cup with more ale. While he did so, he steered away from Eric's gaze as if he was ashamed to look at him. As soon as he was finished filling the cup, he shuffled back to his bar, taking care of the stew. As he drank his ale, the Nord took out the paper scroll Nab Knees had given him. He glanced at it and studied it for a while. Then he suddenly become very aware of his surroundings. Eric sighed. He wasn't much of a talker, but he detested the deadly silence far more. Despite his mostly cold outward behaviour and appearance, he actually liked some livelihood and personal warmth at times. However, it could make him come across as soft in the eyes of others, Eric usually bars any outward help or warmth from strangers and locks himself up in his own fortress of solitude, safe from the troubles of the world, caring only about himself. How different he had become since he had been forced to leave home. What an impact his lone travels had had on his personality. Cold and calculating, ever ready to claim what he deemed what his. Eric grumbled and looked up. First he glanced over his back, to the other patron in the galley, then he adjusted his look towards cookie once more. Begrudgingly he opened his mouth and started to speak. Actually, it would be better to classify it as 'mumbling'. He adressed the other loner. "What brings you here?" To which the other patron looked up surpringly and looked around, as if to determine where the noise came from. "Who? Me?" he replied. Eric simply nodded and rolled his eyes. He would regret this, but he couldn't stand the silence any more. It made him think, and bad things always came up when he had time to think. "Ja, du. Why are you here?" There was an aggressive sneer and tone in Eric's voice as he posed his question the second time. The other loner was visibly taken aback by it, but he started to speak nevertheless. OOC: It would've been a shame not to talk to any of the other guys here. Otherwhise the picture and build of this galley would've been kind of pointless and I didn't want to have that . -

Eric eyed Cookie suspiciously as the man just seem to go on rambling and babbling for ever. "Riiiight. I don't really give a damn about your stories, old man, so I'll just go sit over there" the Nord said and nodded towards the empty table as he spoke his last words. "And just for the record here, I have been at sea before. Multiple times. In fact, I was practically raised at sea. I mightn't look like one, but I am a viking, infamous northern pirate folk." If Eric would've been able to shoot lighning with his eyes, the bartender would've surely gotten it. Eric felt genuinely insulted by the man's remarks. Angrily, he stepped towards the empty table and sat down, drinking his beer. -

Eric strode straight towards the bar, not really caring about the other customer. "So do you have any ale 'round here? If you don't, I'll settle with a bottle of rum. As long as there's alcohol in there, 's all I need." -
I'm listening to Gojira's latest single. I recommend it to anyone who's into the genre or anyone who likes their previous songs. It's just so goooood, I could listen to it over and over again . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sn2xI9OkqTo

Happy to be at sea again, Eric decided to go upstairs and enjoy the wind that propelled the ship and the waves that battered its sides. He was glad to have the salty smell of the seawater craddle in his nostrils once more. As he went upstairs, the words of the first mate rung through Eric's head. Ale! There was ale aboard this ship. Well, of course there would be ale, this were pirates after all, but to have it offered for free... With that, Eric rushed towards the galley to have some ale. -
Your Quest is looking really great once more, Brickdoctor. Excellent photos, editing and gameplay. It is truly a joy to read and great eyecandy .

Nice list with interesting names. 'Necromancer' seems a bit dark/evil for the Ziegfrieds (as I know them now), I wonder what dark secrets you have in store for them in the future. Are these classes mixtures of previous classes or just something completely different and standalone?

Eric looked at Maurice getting up and chuckled at the Cleric's apparent clumsy behaviour at sea. Eric was clearly glad to be out of that barrel and find himself surrounded by the freedom of the ocean again. He smiled as he spotted the pirate's bottle of rum. Eric felt thirsty, but was more focused. He didn't like it and he wanted a drink fast so he'd feel more at ease. "Looks like we've found our captain. Will we go up or do you want to look around in the cabin first, Tesni?" -
Awesome sets! I especially like your Meduseld, it looks like a very believable LEGO set. I'd buy it in an instant, the design is just perfect. The Treebeard is very lovely as well, I think it's one of the best Treebeards out there. Finally, the Dead Marshes set is well-designed, but here I'm not really feeling that this could be an actual LEGO set. Anyway, great stuff. Can't wait to see what else you got up your sleeve !
