There are reasons for numbering: one, the example from Olympics, and two, the expectation of more original minifigures. Most important of all, prevent us from being confused by what series it is. Despite the flaws in the Lego Movie CMF, there are still some nice original minifigures and I don't mind to see special/licensed/original minifigures all mixed up together in future series. No series has to be labelled "special", though some collectors would feel offensed.

That basically depends on what kind of plan TLC want to use. Not to say running out of ideas, I honestly think adding some special / licensed CMF series is interesting and it can prevent fans from feeling bored by normal series. However, if that rumor means there are three special / licensed CMF series coming one after the other without any normal series, they could push it too hard and lead to countereffects. I think there should be a normal series after the rumored Simpsons or the rumored MMORPG has to be filled with original CMFs too. So it's been questioned whether they're going to add more slots. Even they do, three uninterruptible special series is also a question mark. I meant CMFs should include original pieces as many as possible, not totally reusing elements from regular sets. So far Emmet's hair with helmet is exclusive to this CMF series as a newly introuced one.

IMO, even though the Movie CMFs are not offically numbered, they're still part of the formal CMF series that would be massively produced and globally distributed. In other words, they replaces the orginial time of series 12.But if the series are totally additinoal or TLC are able to add more production lines, a better result can be that four series come out in 2014. Rumors are still rumors. I guess that doesn't mean there won't be any original series between them (optimistically thinking). I'm not sure about MMORPG. If it includes original characters who are not based on the plot of the game, they can still be labelled series 12/13.

While being selective, Disney somtimes include some other non-princess characters (beside Mulan) like Alice and Tinker Bell. Actually Disney Princess is inclined to be a collection of girly characters, not a 100% royalty party. Yes, I agree with the fact that the products we see for now are still restricted in the range of very stereotypical Disney Princesses. But still as I said, there is no way Lego can't do more since they've done many other products based on "princessless" Disney stories. A more realistic reason I can imagine is that it's very difficult to ask Disney for multiple stories because license fee would be huge, while Disney Princesses are relatively cheaper (which could be a risk for the Cuusoo Minifigure Project).

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
More spoilers, huh? I'm suprised that TLC is willing to give so much spoilers at the same time. Generally most of the playsets are very different from any existed Lego product, which is good, but many of them are craft and vehicles, and they don't look very cohesive. It could mean that they might just appear in glimpses while other important scenes like the hall of fame are in the final products. It could be less interesting in other aspects. Obviously there are no licensed characters included (not important, they can still be obtained via ongoing licenses), but it's sad to see no old Lego characters rehashed so we can't get a Johnny Thunder. About the controversial CMF series, it's surprising to see that most CMF characters don't appear in these sets, but most of the characters appear along with the robots and protagonists look like generic citizens. This decision could be smart but risky, becasue they should retain some exclusive special characters in regular sets. So far the protagonists have their parts exclusive to CMFs: Wyldstyle's western dress, Emmet's hair with helmet, Mr. Business's normal appearance. We don't know if they'll reappear now or in the future. Is it 70874 Ice Machine?- 2,626 replies

Not to be optimistic, we're just following the example of Olympics. Hope that the special series without number labelled doesn't do anything with the release of real series 12 (they don't have to appear very soon, but at least in June after the rumored Simpsons series). If it was destined to be a special series, it is reasonable (or an excuse) to put similiar characters from the same allies without considering diversity like original CMF series do. The robots look more like noted characters who were not born to be army buiders.

Despite Kairi has license issues, what we hope is to include more scenes that are not princess-like or even from no-princess stories. Since the license can do that, we shouldn't argue who are "official princesses" and who are not. Is Jack Sparrow a Disney Princess?? Reasonably, if this case happens in normal toy companies that sells "unbuildable" princes castles, you can't ask them to add the tower from Hero's Duty because those companies can only produce for a series targeted at specific customers. But this is Lego, which has an obviously wider customer range who are able to play Chima and Ninjago. It's not a kind of over expectation. There are too many examples like her as we know. Tingting, Kilala, Sofia, Kida..... etc. Though Disney are often questioned for being selective, however, many unofficial princesses don't come from folk legends or fairy tales. In Giselle's example, she only represents a typical princess but not a notable identity. Merida is the only "original" princess in a broad sense.

It's nice to see that TLC don't use regular series number so that they would seperate special CMF and original CMF series in the future or discontinue the latter. Some kind of official spoiler? Technically yes, but if the piece still appears with Emmet in regular sets, it's still not allowed. So far we only see Emmet's whole hairpiece in preview sets. It's coming to surface that more and more headgears begin to combine hats with hair. If TLC think it's a trend, other future City construction sets would also include this piece along with Gail(Lacy)'s, though guys' short hair don't really need them. I think there would be some issues to directly make minifigures based on historical people. We've seen some minifigures that obviously used some stereotype images of certain characters (Detective, Hollywood Starlet etc) but just don't use their names. The reason why this series include two notable names could be that they are detailed parody characters from a movie story.

It should be one of the major problems. As fans of both Lego or Disney, some of us want to see TLC make the best use of a certain license: more characters, more stories, more playable scenes. Yes, we want to see playsets based on various Disney movies and it shouldn't be that difficult since TLC had already obtained other non-princess themes. We just hope that the series don't be too superficial so that TLC lose the customers who were willing to buy their Lego Diseny products. So it comes to what a traditional Disney Princess sets should be: no sets based on the poor unofficial princesses (Nala, Kairi), no characters that baby girls don't want to see (Lady Tremaine, Mor'du), romantic and girly scenes only (uh, Brave doesn't count unless a sequel comes). Another problem in minidolls is, so far we haven't seen a licensed character that has a different bodysize that can't fit in Olivia's model. I can hardly see that Merida's father and brothers (in human form) obtain their minidolls, while it could be easier in minifigures. But TLC might just try to skip them as many as possible.

Well, we had cops, robots and zombies in previous series oo. If characters with repetitive identities could be more interesting or come with useful parts, it doesn't really matter. The third merimaid is interesting in its color and face. The new old lady also looks modern and hip. But I hoped the previous Grandma looks more like a typical country woman so that she can be in line with her Visiter granddaughter. But the second Mexican doesn't look fresh at all. Not an opposite gender or personality. He's only valuable for those who didn't collect series 2. Gail should join City construction sets. I kinda doubt that the repetitive characters and protagonists are added mostly because TLC can't produce too many new parts at the same time, results in some popular and distinctive characters not chosen. Hope that we can still see the others in regular sets.

I mistook that, but maybe I should check your brain.

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yes. If TLC want to promote licensed CMF without losing customers, they need to release at least four series in 2014. My bottom line is two original series if TLC are running out of ideas and need some time. Sadly, that's true. Most CMF fans are probably kids and they would have fewer interests in LotR CMF. So let's hope LotR sets are still coming out. TLC have been trying to capture any scene and ship from the trilogies, so there are almost nothing left for a CMF series. The only part that TLC seldom touch is the Expanded Universe, however, characters from novels and video games would not be as famous as the trilogy characters and could make a CMF look weird, though I'd really love to see young Mara Jade. -
If they represent good variation with new parts, I don't really care a third or fourth mermaid. Indeed we want some more original characters. Cops and construction workers would be too ordinary as CMFs since they would appear in both City and Movie sets. I'd like to see a Mexican woman too, if TLC don't mind to have seven ladies. Even though each zombie (robot?) looks awesome and they won't be in regular sets, I think they should actually be distributed into different CMF series to avoid lacking of diversity, and it doesn't have to be a series featuring Movie characters only. Series 13 would receive the same complaints if they really include the Simpson (family).

LEGO Minecraft (Minfigure Scale) 2014 Rumors and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I should clarify that I do agree with the restrictions. We have to review and know whether each single product would work, not to allow all of them to produce together. They don't have to take all risks when one product is risky enough. However in this case, my doubt is that TLC is willing to pay attention to certain license, which is a case what they often do to normal licensed themes, not a great example which evolved from a Cuusoo project. There are indeed some business reasons (Mincreaft could make it better than BTTF or Zelda themes), but I feel than supports have very little influence in the decision of adding augmented products. -
LEGO Minecraft (Minfigure Scale) 2014 Rumors and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm not sure it's a welcome news or not, as licensed scene based on Cuusoo projects. It's nice for Minecraft fans, but would be weird for other Cuusoo project supportors who like BTTF or other rejected (or not) licesnes while they also want to see more of them. Even though Cuusoo team never mean to reject some license because of its expense or difficulty, however, if they're willing to favor a certain license much more than any other fan-favorites, it would be more like a decision of TLC rather than a success example of Cuusoo projects (which makes the achievement more like a lucky.coincidence). And it lacks reasons when they don't allow other projects to have multiple product ideas. -
Future of the CMF as licensed characters

I'm no native speaker so I'm sorry for that, too. Anyway, hope that there will still be more LotR-era sets so we won't need CMFs. -
Future of the CMF as licensed characters
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think it's been discussed. For now we're still not saying that license CMFs will replace original CMFs, so it's not your problem. About your concern, it's correct sometimes but it even occurs in regular sets (similar films and old themes), not just CMFs. And we shouldn't neglect those needs and supports who think some license have longterm potential. -

What? No, we've seen at least 4 Hobbit sets for 2014 already. Look twice and you can understand I guess. -
Future of the CMF as licensed characters
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree with the Simpsons part. They're all famous because of this show, but not necessarily classic. I have opposite opinions. TLC seems not to agree with Star Wars CMF since they used to make each kind of trooper exclusive in regular sets, and they can hardly give any kind of character or trooper as CMF choices. One thing I worry about is there is no LotR sets announced along with its prequel series in 2014, while there are still many possible sets and notable characters not being made. If TLC don't make more LotR products, a CMF series would be the last resort. For Superheros, it indeed seems quite wierd since TLC had made so many exclusive minifigure bags, which means they didn't plan to have a Superhero CMF at all. Disney could have the widest range of characters among all licenses, and they also have the best diversity. If Disney make this deal, it has to be a longterm project with multiple series and still ongoing when Disney have new films. I don't mind having one Disney CMF series every year. -
Unless you're creating a new one, I totally disagree with the opinion that a curled hair doesn't look good on a curled Merida while you want to use Forest Maiden's hairpiece which is not similar at all. To me Ariel is the one who really needs another hairpiece. However, Andrea's hair is shorter than Merida's so it's still not perfect. Minidoll face arts do have a problem that they don't show too much individual difference, but it can be regarded as a "style" just like all minifigures using dot-like eyes. The opinion I can give is, minidolls don't have different emotions or expressions shown on their face, while minifigures can at least have double face prints. The only solution is TLC making more variations of the characters, or they just have to give us Disney minifigures.

I don't know what you're saying. It's not about coming from a licesed theme or a story, its about the roles that characters play in that stories, which affect their appearances in regular sets. Directly speaking, the series is a glimpse, preview or "spoiler" of the movie. Perhaps most of the minifigures would just play a background role who are eye-catching but don't affect the general plot (for example, maybe Gail would be described as a coworker with Emmet who just appear in the first thirty seconds of the movie and her story ends). In other words, series 12 minifigures might be actually not "based on" the movie, but TLC just make use of that movie and get some advertising effects to the CMFs. However, it's nothing to do with the "protagonsits" since they are the least valuable ones in this series. The worst situation woud be that some other popular minor characters like Michelangelo or Johnny Thunder would not be in any future CMFs or regular sets, and we know who are going to be the target of public criticism. So in your way of speaking, I'd say that Emmet and Wyldstyle should spoil your collection while others don't.
-
I didn't expect Lacy's horseriding helmet would be used in this way. So hope that we'll see more woman in City construction sets. I though it's special in many aspects, but could be both a success or failure for reason, not the best or worst. If they could get rid of the main characters (or give them a more different exclusive clothes in CMF), series 12 could be perfect.
-
I personally have polarized views, but generally it isn't as bad as I or many people thought, because there are many interesting elements and usable army builders. The most controversial part is whether this series would include too many main characters (which means they would also be in regular sets), leading to loss in value or incapability of being army builders. The result is that at least four of them are. Wyldstyle is obviously an alternative version, but the guys would very possibly remain the same look in regular sets. To my surprise, Emmet has hair in helmet even though his hair is "short" (like Lacy's horseriding hair used for the female construction worker). For the parts, there are many new parts which proves that TLC really put much more investment than past series. We can also see six female characters in this series, which means the series has most girls so far (but I wonder if there would be another important female hero/rival in the movie). I think they're quite "distinctive". Distinctive means not everyone loves them, but it makes them more valuable. The new "Mermaid", "Grandma" or "Mexican" obviously don't share the same personality with their previous counterpart. We've complained that some counterpart identities like "rival" "gender" are just rehashing. However, we get a "crazy" version of the old characters with interesting colors and expressions, which should be a remarkale idea.
