  1. Can any individual buy from Lego Education site? How does it differ from Lego's normal shop at home site?
  2. Sometimes change is not possible by end user. For example, I like old boxes which had transparent cover so that I could see parts before opening the box (Lego did that before). I like printed instruction for both models (Lego did that before). I like motors not included with every set but instructions given for motorizing.
  3. Some proof of old classics selling low 8868 gone for just £58 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130830448059 8479 gone for just £51 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150973285838 8880 gone for just £80 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271118938396
  4. Just wait till 3D printing becomes affordable.
  5. Why would someone pay over odds for smaller sets like 8853? It is very easy to build sets like these with parts from other sets. In fact if someone has recent sets like 8110, 8258, 8043, 8069, 9398 etc. it is quite easy (with patience) to build many of older/smaller sets. Until a few years back I used to moan why TLG is not re-releasing older sets but now with latest line up, it hardly matters.
  6. In most Asian countries, people are very unlikely to spend that much on something which are just "toys". There may be exceptions (like Japan etc.) but it is true for most part of Asia due to socio economic scenario (same for Africa too). It is only the developed countries where people have time AND money to invest into hobbies. If TLG is serious about Asia, they need to reduce production cost by setting up manufacturing in China/India or similar.
  7. Resale price depends on many factors. I recently started a similar topic in Technic section (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77897). For Technic, the older sets are not gaining any value lately. One reason why some sets went up in value due to some people just being crazy. Now so many people are thinking of investing in Lego, return may not be that high what you expect. Also, in recent times Lego has released lots of interesting sets which somewhat negates the craze of having older sets (why pay more when you can similar products much cheaper and new)? Still, out of the sets you listed, I think VW Camper might appreciate as this has got wider appeal. So Technic lover one day show interest assuming it as a car.
  8. I think it might be difficult for TLG to release the entire car as single set. It will be huge and price will put off many potential buyers. What they might do is to release it in multiple sets. One for just the chassis (with all mechanical parts, of course) and one optional set for just the body shell. Then instructions of how to add motors. I can smell some other conspiracy theory as well. This car packed almost all features one can ever imagine into a single car. If a single set becomes this good, TLG will find very difficult in the future to lure customers into buying their sets with inferior features because it will lead to buyers' comments like "ah, that Landrover released last year was far better". I don't want to sound pessimistic (I'd love to see this set as released) but TLG's comment already hinted that, this car, in its entirety is unlikely to be an official set. If TLG dumbs it down then it will be a shame. This Landrover is the best because of its complexity and discarding any single feature will be sacrilege. The aim of Cuusoo is to keep the hype about Lego (which will push their sales) and not to prove general public can make better models than Lego designers.
  9. Hmm, now I realize why most railway modelers prefer track powers! Battery is indeed too much work for trains. I couldn't guess that 10+ stud wide trains will require so much power to move. May be for trains steel wheels on metal rails is best option (at least by physics' laws)
  10. I still believe 8880 is the best Technic set ever created. Amazing what Lego could do in 1994. I bought 8880 from eBay few years back for just £36. I never got so much fun for such little money in my life.
  11. The police car has lots of features and looks very good (well proportionate). I don't understand why the Mustang style car got so many votes. It is hardly any different from stock 9398 model.
  12. Then there is still some hope. But how do I fit technic axles to flanged wheels? I don't have any Lego trains so not sure if that can be done. PS: Found the part - http://rebrickable.com/parts/55423 With this it is possible to put Lego trains on any custom width gauge (as long as flange doesn't touch base). So trains won't be limited to just 6 studs wide.
  13. To me, the the black police car seems most interesting. The blue car then a close second.
  14. To further narrow down my problem statement, I just want Lego train wheels which I can fit on Technic axles (with custom spacing as to fit on HO/OO track). Once that is done, rest is very easy as I can easly fit some cogs to drive the axles via PF motor. In fact as long as I can vary the spacing of wheels on axle, I can run it on any gauge by just changing the spacing of wheels on the axle. Since I have never used Lego trains, I don't know whether such wheels are available.
  15. G scale is best for outdoors but it is way too expensive. I already have a collection of OO models and tracks. But I could not find any RC/battery operated OO/HO locomotives. I understand Lego Trains are 2x bigger than OO/HO trains but I can treat Lego on OO/HO track as narrow gauge trains (Somewhat similar to On30 trains). If I can build a chassis of Lego PF motors driving wheels on OO/HO track my problem is solved.
  16. I don't own any of these sets. However, I am interested to know how they compare with one another as they all visually appear similar. If we take away power functions from 8043, do the 8294 or 42006 offer identical feature?
  17. So far all my Lego collections are Technic only. I also collected some OO gauge model trains (Hornby, Lima, Bachmann) earlier in my life. Now I want to lay tracks in my garden. G scale garden railway is too expensive and OO/HO is not suitable for outdoor (due to live tracks). I tried to find battery operated locos (like Lego PF) in OO/HO tracks but have not found any. So I am thinking whether it is possible to create my own Lego locomotive but making it run on OO/HO track instead of Lego's own tracks. Sounds feasible?
  18. For few years, TLG itself went thru a dark age. They didn't bring good quality Technic sets. However, in last few years, some good Technic sets are coming out. This shows that, buyers who thought somehow they needed to grab old classics (at insane prices), can now see similar/better quality sets are available again at reasonable price. If people can buy things new cheaper not much point in buying old at inflated price.
  19. Holy cow! I once paid less than that for a real car!
  20. You mean just attaching the spring to some other slots as shown in attached image?
  21. Can someone please tell me where I can see the list of 10 finalist models?
