Makuta's final battle was very satisfying for me as it reminded me of the early years when he was portrayed in a nearly godlike fashion. He seemed very impressive.

Agreed. Particularly about the mask. Besides the addition of the fin, the mask looks quite reminiscent of the old Hau but with something covering the mouth, which makes perfect sense as they may have to go underwater from time to time in the swamp. And what's with all the ninja-star comments? They look like daggers or wrist-blades of some kind to me...
