I only made 1 MOC up to now as i only got into lego technic in January this year, i made the Water Jeep for TSATS contest so dont have much experience. I have some ideas for my second MOC but am struggling to start it as i am not sure what way to do it. Help and ideas would be appreciated. I would like to make a Truck yes i know not very original but i want to make it slightly different than what i have seen before. what i want is an UK style Over engine tractor unit similar to the 9397 B model plough truck style but shorter, with articulated trailer utilising my trailer rear steer system, i also want it to be a tipping trailer but all remotely operated... now this is where i have a stumbling block. How do i power the trailer systems, do i make it so once connected i connect a power cable to the truck cab to power trailer motors, or do i make a drive shaft connection system that transfers power through a universal joint to the trailer or through the connecting pin, or do i make both the cab and the trailer with thier own battery box and ir reciever to power them????? also as regards to the Cab/tractor unit what is the best remote steering system, NXT or PF and if return to center then it wont be as accurate as non return to center, and how do i make it with out stressing the pf motors? Any suggestions help or just plain ideas would be appreciated. sets i am working with:- 1 NXT 2.0 set 1 9397 logging truck set 1 8109 Flatbed Truck 1 8110 unimog 1 8043 Motorized Excavator (keeping second one complete) and 4 extra wheels for the 9397 log truck.

Yes i misread your first post and thought you meant just to swap the thin bevel gears on page 47 book 1 but as soon as i reread i realised my mistake, you did state double bevel and also the other page with the 12t gears on, i will give it a test and see how it operates I just quickly, (inspired by your post) changed the 20t single bevel gears (page25 book 1) for a couple of the 12t black double bevel gears i had spare moving the 12t single bevel to the 20t single bevel spot and substituting the 12t double black for trhe 20t singles. (if that makes sense lol) it has speeded the tracks up and as a result has also reduced the jerkiness slightly, but i may be wrong. i will do as per your suggestion and see how things go, doing both my gear it up too much and reduce the power too much so will perhaps just do yours. The more i fiddle the more i am thinking the jerkiness is related to the tracks running on the 6 plastic rollers underneath them, if you put light pressure on the tracks and roll them by hand they jerk as they pass over the plastic rollers, maybe it is just bad desgn of the track system? Another update: just removed all of the idler wheels and brackets that hold them in place and ran the excavator on its tracks with just the large track wheels, no little wheels or frames touching the tracks...... this makes the jerking of the model 5 x worse ! not what i expected at all, so it must not be related to the tracks. must be the drive system. Hope all this helps. -
Help needed with my 8043
Rodeown replied to calypso's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I looked at this and thoght at first it was not possible but now i think it may be. Also if anyone else can confirm that a problem i am having is similar to what they experienced, when the batteries are running low does the selector switch stop working first? -

Hi there, I just got two of these yesterday and finished the first one earlier today, it seems to be that they do rattle and jerk a little on the tracks, I made sure everything was running smooth and there was no gripping gears etc but mine does the same as you describe, all I can think is that we are working with plastic gears and shafts and they have some longitudal flex in them, when put under load ie: moving forward on the tracks they flex then once moving the flex is released then applied again etc etc, probably very little we can do with this, just search on you tube for 8043 videos and you will see they are all the same. :-) -
OH MY GOD, have i broken the forum rules by posting a video of how happy i am at getting a box of lego technic through the post Cypr-21, I apologise that you are offended by my pleasure and also feel sorry for you that you cannot share my happiness, I have saved for months to get enough money together to be able to afford these as i am disabled and dont have much disposable income, technic lego has made my life much better since i got into it in January of this year, so please just be happy for me, I am not here to offend anyone or upset you, but i feel you have soured my enjoyment that i was sharing by stating that this post is "pointless" and "excessive flood". Yesterday on this forum i read a post about people been excited about getting new Technics, so my post was not pointless as it is in response to that. all i can say is "play well" my friend.

TSATS: Water Jeep by Rodeown
Rodeown replied to Rodeown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Tim, what bent axels? Do you mean the fishing rod? that was just hooked like that for the pictures to add more authenticity, apart from that there is no bent axels anywhere on the model and saying that the flex in the rod was minimal and not under much stress at all -
just got on today and was shocked to see my entry was classed as not final.???? It has been finalised for a few weeks now, I put the pictures at the top of the thread showing clearly that it was final and stating as much. Anyway, i have now done a new thread with just the 8 pictures, well 7 pics and one video.

Disabled Technic Builders
Rodeown replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Grum64, thank you for sharing your story, I had tears in my eyes reading it and peoples responses.... it hit home with me because i am disabled, no where near as bad as you but bad enough that I cannot work, you sound like you have found something that pushes you to achieve.. i went through a stage of jumping from one thing to another to try to find something that i could excel at with my problems and the latest thing i found was Lego Technic. yes it is a challenge and it makes me feel very satisfied when i look at a finished model i have built. I should imagine you are the same. I take off my hat to you sir. Well to my story. Short version - 5 year old swiming in local river, 4 mile up river farmer empties sheep dip tank into stream, absorbs through skin but not aware of anything wrong for 6-7 months, Mother notices me picking up lego with my knuckles rather than ends of fingers, tells me off, i tell her i cant feel at finger tips. rushed to hospital, in out for many years, grew up with severely damaged Nerves that caused my spine structure to be bent and twisted as there were no messages getting to my muscles that provided support for spine lumbar back area, at 13 i had hands like claws, could not use them due to the nerve damage, by 15 year old, nerves had started to regenerate, feeling came back i started to improve by 20 i was discharged from hospital as they could not see any more deteriation. I stil had severe scholiosis of spine and twisted fingers but they were working again. i got steadily stronger and worked in many jobs, became a manager in retail and finally decided to set up my own video production company. I got married and had a child, life was great.... 6 years into running my business i started to get pains in my back like i had never felt before, back to hospital, 2 years and many drugs later i was told there was nothing more could be done for me and i should be in a wheelchair..well that was not happening! I was on many tablets that i slowly became unable to take and now cant take any pain relief atall, i have to distract myself all the time to just get through the day. I am in constant pain but things like Lego keep me errrrr "sane", i can get involved and forget about my pains for a while, I have a wonderful wife who pushes me forward (mentally) all the time and an 18 year old son who is amazing, I also have people like you guys and gals on forums like this that make me realise that i am not alone, and then i read stories like Grum64s of people overcoming massive disabilities and I am taken aback by the strength of character they have to fight on and achieve. And yes that was the short version Grum64 thanks again for sharing your story and inspiring me. -
TSATS: Tri-Speeder
Rodeown replied to danim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Personally i would not put that in the water..... reason been is that your NXT motors are going to be submerged in the water at the orange end of them, they are not water proof and the water will travel up the gears inside during rotation and will get to the motors, even if that does not kill them then any dirt that dries inside afterwards will slowy destroy them... just my opinion, it would have been wrong of me not to have mentioned it as i would hete to see you ruin your NXT motors. -

TSATS: Water Jeep
Rodeown replied to Rodeown's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
OKAY here are the final pictures for my entry, I have also added them at the start of this thread. I changed the front panels for white ones from the yellow, added some style to the rear & Marvin the marlin was to big so i caught a different technic fish instead and extended the side bars (one now has TECHNIC on it). -

Thanks for all the comments, I am still working on this and today did some more alterations. the front was bugging me it was more car than boat so i have rebuilt it with a more boat like front. also removed all the red beams to make it more pleasing on the eyes, added some lights to the front, also lifted the back of the bonnet(hood) up one stud to give it a more stylish look. hopes you like it now. oh here is a picture of the underside aswell, just realised i had not shown the underneath before now. -
personally i think everyone will like to see the development of your ideas, i know my own water jeep has many more photos than 8 in the thread i started for it because i have been developing it as i go along, once complete i will create 8 photos to be in the competition and a video if that is ok with Siegfried.
