The new creator sets are avilible on lsah
gylman replied to lego trains rule's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
It's done http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=10116 Hopefully if people find this useful, one of the admins will pin it. It worked just the way I expected.... I saw a new message in the thread, clicked on the link, and learned about a new release or sale. I think the postings - one of a preorder, one of pretty good sale item, are appropriate. No spam so far. I'd love to have admin power for that thread to clean it up a bit if necesary. The other problem I see is that if one person posts a news item, and then has another news item the next day, and no one has posted in betwen, then attempting to post a second news item will not create a new message, but only add to the previous one by the same user, and hence there will be no "new post" for people to notice. Minor issue, though. -
I bought this set in Legoland Cali 2 years ago.

It all comes down to how much money your time is worth, and what other things you need to do at the same time. Selling is time consuming, especially if you don't have easy access to a postoffice with good services and short lineups. Certainly that has discouraged me from selling a bunch of stuff I don't really need any more.

If you have not posted in this topic before, please read the instructions carefully before posting. We are trying something new. The purpose of this topic is to allow people to easily keep track of new sets releases and significant sales at S@H. It is not for announcing new sets that will be released in the future, not for discussion of the sets, and not for any other purpose. ANYTHING YOU POST HERE IS FOR SOMETHING JUST RELEASED, OR SOMETHING PUT ON SALE at S@H that YOU THINK LOTS OF PEOPLE WILL CARE ABOUT (for example the recent 50% sale on Arkham and on the "Classic castle' (yeah, right, classic my a$$). If a Bionicle sword or Makuta costume or Belville dress go on sale for 90% off, that's NOT of general interest. Use your judgment people.... Whenever a set has been released on S@H, or is newly available in the stores, and you wish to inform other EB members about it, post it in this topic. Please make sure that the information has not been entered by someone already. Product releases that are more than a week or two old are probably already old news dont bother entering them. It is probably useful to say where the product is released if you know. For example, many sets are released in Europe or North America first, and in the other region weeks or months later. Saying that a set is released in North America is one entry, and its release in Europe 2 months later would be another entry. The easiest way to know if something is available in a country is to load it into your shopping cart at S@H, and then try to transfer to that country on the main page. If the product is not available in that country you will get a message telling you so. A reasonable way to enter data would be as follows: Date of entry (redundant, but helpful) Set name Link to the set picture if available Where the set can be obtained (S@H, or Lego Stores, TRU, or whatever) Geographic area of release. Use your best judgment as to what you think other people will be interested in. Try not to turn this into a spamfest of useless stuff no one cares about. The idea is that when people do a search for new posts, every time they see a new post in this topic, they will jump to it and see info about a new product release. This is an experiment. If it turns out to be a waste of time or a spamfest, it will disappear. I have entered the first one below as an example. If you have any questions, feel free to post them. I assume there will be a few posts to ask questions, I will try to clarify, and hopefully after that nothing other than "for sale" information. Let's try to make it work. June 22 / 07 Creator sets: Ferris Wheel http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=4957 Monster Dino http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=4958&cn=348 Model Townhouse http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.aspx?p=4954&cn=348 Available at S@H North America. So far not available in Europe.

OK, I have a question about this. It seems to me that the annoucement that a set is now available for purchase on S@H, or is found in stores, is separate from the information about a new upcoming set that we have pics of, or advance news about something that will come next year, or Toyfair pics, etc. Simplying appending a "now available at S@H" post to the previous 198 posts on a topic which began 6 months earlier with the initial discovery of the set makes it likely to be ignored or missed by people who are actually interested in the fact that they can buy the set now. I would suggest that we have a topic, pinned, entitled "new arrivals", or "sets newly available", or something like that, into which only a single announcement woudl be made (no comments or bitching about price, etc) that a set is now available in some part of the world. That way, any new post into that topic would mean that there is something newly available. Since most of us, I believe, scan the forums by checking new posts, it would be useful information. We can even make a standard format for announcements: Set: xxxxx link to picture: xxxxx now available at: xxxxxx cost: xxxxx (if appropriate) It doesn't have to be only S@H, it can be sales, promo sets, whatever. We can flesh this idea out if there is any interest. -
Well then... Monsieur, you will have to explain your strange obsession with polyvinyl chloride then..... :-D

Well, what woudl REALLY be neat, is if Brickmaster would be available in Canada.... ^%$@$!#!!!

Very impressive and very clever building techinques. I wish the photography was a bit better. You do something amazing like this, but then you spend 30 seconds photographing it, and you don't get to truly show off (I mean show off in a good way) your work. -
8436 Pic Review
gylman replied to Stauder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I certainly like 8455, but it does not live up to its potential. 8455 has a ton of pneumatic functionality - more than any other by far. It sits on my office shelf with no risk of imminent storage, along with Airtech, the Black Cat ModelTeam, and the Scudaria Truck. However, it has a flimsy feel to it - too light due to the use of liftarms rather than bricks, and probably a bit too small. It is very hard to control the movement of the pneumoatic powered parts - they open too fast, close too fast, and getting them to slowly and in a controlled way go to the position you want is almost impossible. It doesn't demo well to family and friends. Airtech is much more impressive that way. Again, this could have been partially remedied by having heavier elements, so the pneumatic power did not fling them back and forth. Also, the switches are too many and too close together. A 100% better model with exactly the same functionality, would have been 50% larger, 100% heavier, and used the extra space for an air tank somewhere. The reason I like the tractor so much is because it is very sturdy feeling, and because of the air tank you really can control it very nicely. It is almost the opposite of the 8455 - less function, but all the functions work really well. Also, it used a significant amount of bricks, not liftarms, which is a major plus in my books. And the liftarms were actually used in a useful way. And no farings. EGAD I hate farings. I have to confess that this is probably part of my bias against 8436 -
LOL. Seriously, I don't care much.... (maybe it was TT! That's it! That's the ticket! OK, next time you see a user called VCVCVCVC.... be very afraid! REVENGE WILL BE MINE!@!!!!!!! bwahahahahaha)

Sigh. It's a short story. There I was, minding my own business (well, not really)....I was making reference to a long-ago EB member (long since banned) who stirred things up with extraordinarily hilarious or annoying posts. His username was VCVC. I had discussed EB in the "pre-VC era" and the "post-VC era". My post had lots of PVC's in the text, as you can imagine. Further, it contained various veiled digs at the admins. Well, not so veiled. So, clearly Yoda (I assume, but it coudl have been any of the powerful beings that run the forums) is obsessed with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Why, I know not although back when I was twenty-something, there was a fad for rubber PVC suits with some type of sexual fetishism I'd rather not say which one.... but you can google "PVC" and "fetish" and find out no doubt. Let's just say that PVC is waterproof. But I digress, anyway, back to the story. Yoda (or whoever) HONED IN instantly on this opportunity to once again bestow the Polyvinyl chloride title upon an unsuspecting, previously respected, EB member. And so, for reasons totally unrelated to plastics, polymers, or wierd sexual fetishism, I am now the carrier of this title. Also, it is said (somewhere) that unless at least one EB member at any given time has the Polyvinyl chloride title, the entire forum will self destruct within a week and Megabloks will take over The Lego Company, while the Star Wars License is replaced by the return of Galidor, and Spongebob becomes the new comporate mascot for The Lego Company. How's that for a short story! Sponge on!

8436 Pic Review
gylman replied to Stauder's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the review. I have to say I found this model soooo disappointing at the time that it came out, because Technic had been so much more than this, and I had really looking forward to a new Pneumatic model, and in 2003 at least it seemed that there had been a revival in Technic because they had the very good backhoe 8455 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8455 and recycled the crane truck 8438. Anyway, comparing this to the Airtech Claw Rig(the greatest Technic Model of all time of course) or even lesser pneumatic models like the tractor 8464/8459 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8459, or the big backhoe 8455 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8455, or even the medium sized log loader 8443 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8443, shows how little they did with this model. Basically, this is a standard modern (meaning crappy gearless liftarmed excessively fared) truck chasis with a function arm of some sort "thrown in". 8455 - the backhoe was a pretty decent set, and marked the last time Lego did anything useful with pneumatics (8421 does not count because the pneumatids were basically useless). It's a shame really - nothing I ever did with Technic was ever as cool as the pneumatic stuff. Lego seems to have abandoned this, though. -
Totally agree with above... some of the pieces in thse sets are not usable as an actual chest set if not glued together, or they fall apart when you try to move then. We actually use these as chess sets at home, and they are kinda a pain sometimes because the pieces fall apart. My father can't actually use them because his large clumsy fingers keep knocking over the pieces beside the one he was trying to move (sorry dad). As minifig packs, of course no need for glue, but if they are actually meant for chess, I think they should use a slightly larger board, and only two studs in the middle to hold each pieces. We built our own board, and using a 6x6 size for each square (instead of Lego's 4x4), with slightly elevated jumper plates in the middle of each square and the rest studless, made for a FAR more enjoyable chess playing experience all around.

WTB - 2/3 Sets of MISB Lego 7243 Construction Site.
gylman replied to vhtf.hw.lego's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
With regards to Bricklink... feel free to contact the seller in advance to ask what the shipping costs would be? Better to do that before buying. -
Yeah, the set itself is ugly as sin! What was going through the designers' heads when they came up with this? However, the new motors are of great interest...
-
For those who are interested, this french seller has a few of these for sale (no boxes, though, so I'm out). Here's the country club, which is quite rare! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting

I think that this theme emerged from the Lego Town theme after the success of Breezeway Cafe 6376). It's like tracking down the evolution of a species - the 1990 Breezeway begat the 1992 Sand Dollar Cafe 6411 and Poolside Paradise 6416, the line evolved, and reached its peak in the 1996 Country Club 6418. There were a couple of weak sets in 1997, and that was the end of Paradisa. 6 great years.
-
Paradisa is really one of the underappreciated Lego gems, although bricklink prices make it clear that enough people do appreciate these sets. Considering that this theme was out only a decade ago, it may actually be the most collectable Lego theme at present. I don't think so many copies were released, and even small sets with 100 parts or less will sell MISB on bricklink for 50$. I think the Lighthouse (6414) is my favourite, although the country club (6418)probably is a better set (I just can't get my hands on that one for a reasonable price, or even a somewhat unreasoanble price).

Very unusual. They have never done a keychain like this before. Are we totally sure they are real? It seems like a reliable source of information, so I guess so. Usually there is a Lego logo on their keychains somewhere, and these do not seem very practical (at least the Tie fighter looks like it would be quite painful in your pocket) Still, if they are real, I am obvious excited about this, as it is a new and novel keychain product, and I do have a slight interest in Lego keychains.... :-D
