  1. I use these extensively (tilt bins). Good quality, easier to use than drawers. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/sto...35477_200335477 I do use some drawers too.
  2. If any of the EB regulars can get those for me, still sealed of course, I'd happily pay for them, shipping, + a little extra for your trouble. Just PM me Cheers. Gyl
  3. Oh hell, yeah you're right lol. Undeniably Lego. Especially in a society of theirs where bad grades = suicide. EDIT: OOH, editing wierdness... LOL. Jinzo somehow your post came out as mine, and mine is gone. Ahh, the awesome powers of a mod. Almost like those of...... KIRA!
  4. One of the more popular Japan Anime shows these days is Death Note. It's not as vile as the name sounds... basically it's a battle of wits between two geniuses, one with a misguided sense of justice who has a notebook that allows him to kill whoever's name he writes in his book, vs another who is determined to bring the first to justice. Not a kids show, but mostly because they would find it too boring. Regardless, a recent episode (33) featured lego-type figs.. kinda funny to see them there. It's a pretty good show, but you have to see it from the beginning, or it makes no sense. Look it up on Wikipedia. Fansubs are available. http://kuro-hanasubs.com/index.php
  5. Yeah, it's a bit "fishy". A bunch of 20 dollar fishing gear auctions, and then a Lego set out of nowhere which is likely to fetch hundreds of dollars, no PayPal, last few auctions bad feedback.
  6. Getting back on topic... Now this http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...=ADME:B:SS:CA:1 will be interesting. MINT SEALED 6080 Normally it could fetch 500$ or more, but the seller looks quite dubious: no PayPal and not the best feedback. Normally I woudl be interested, but not with those kinds of issues. Money order is a red flag for fraud.
  7. As a buyer, I have NO trouble at all buying from Europe and Asia. I buy LOTS of Lego from HK, some from Singapore, from Korea, and Japan. They have some of the best Lego gear, which I collect. Right now I am working with a Japanese Lego fan to buy stuff on Yahoo Japan, which has a lot of nice Lego things I can't get on eBay. As a buyer, I can live with it if something is lost in the mail. I try to use only honest experienced sellers (lots of feedback, 99% or higher feedback), I don't spend crazy amounts of money, and after that if it is lost, I don't blame them. No stress. But as a seller, I have no control over what kind of buyer I am getting, so I am much more nervous about things. It's one of the reasons I don't sell much - too stressful!
  8. His charges seem to depend on where he is shipping. Within US it's 11$ Canada 23$ On the high side, but not crazy crazy. I've seen much worse. Depends on how they are packed. US Postal rates too a big jump for packages a month ago. BAsically, I see that he doesn't really want to ship outside the US. Truth is, I don't blame him. I am in Canada. When I have sold sets, I usually charged "at cost" for shipping in North America, but outside I charge more than cost. The main reason is that I don't like selling outside the North America region because I am worried my stuff will get lost, or damaged more likely, and then I get the blame. Buyers always ask for uninsured stuff to save money, and if something goes wrong, all of a suddent it's my problem. Still, I feel guilty charging more than cost, and so the last few times I only sold within North America.
  9. It's a bit hard to compare PlayMo and Lego. There are some similarities between the two, but important differences. Playmobile: 379 M annual sales in 2006, 2721 employees Lego: 1000 M annual sales in 2006, 4900 employees (all amounts in Euro, I converted the DKK) Lego, being significantly bigger, has to have more irons in the fire at a single time in order to keep moving. Playmobile is more of a niche toy, and I have to say that my impression is that it is waning, at least in Canada, although I cannot say for Europe or US. Also, it looks like Playmobile is much more Eurocentric than Lego - the culture of toys is probably different between the US and Europe. In the future, I would predict that toy culture in developing Asia (China, India) which is a site of potential growth, would be much more like the US than like Europe. How strong is Playmobile in Japan and Singapore and HK? I don't honestly know, just asking...
  10. Meh, the shipping is a ripoff, obviously, but as long as he states it there's no issue. All that BS about careful sorting etc, is a lie. This is actually a scam to avoid pay eBay fees. Because of his shipping fee being so high, his auction will go to a much lower value, so he pays less to eBay. Also, he can take the risk of listing at a low initial value, and again save money. In some cases it's good for the buyer, because for customs, they declare a lower value. A lot of China and Eastern European sellers do this too. 1 cent item 25 dollars shipping. It's actually against eBay rules, but sellers try to find a fine line where it's not so obviously a scam that they are penalized by eBay. I'd say this guy is probably on or just beyond that line.
  11. It's tricky. Without Star Wars Lego, The Lego Company would not exist in its present form. It was close to financial failure, and was saved by this and by Bionicle. I agree most of the licenses are unnecessary for AFOLs, but I think they are a good entry point for people into Lego, and then they can more on to more themes. Especially little kids who grow up on Bob the Builder, Dora, and definitely Thomas for example. I think the Batman theme has been a disappointment, but maybe it it had been done better it woudl have been worthwhile. Similarly Spiderman. Potter had some good sets, but too many klunkers. Juracic Park was a total loss, Avatar too. Disney? I have seen a couple of Mickey/Minnie sets, but they never had a significant presence I DEEPLY regret an Indiana Jones license if it means the end of the Adventurers. That would be absolutely a terrible mistake for long term, because Indy Jones is not a long term franchise. So, it's a mixed bag. Like anything else, not black and white. Bottom line is that the people at TLC are not stupid, and they do a LOT of market research, and they have turned things around a LOT from a few years ago, so I cut them a lot of slack. Except for the old gray thing. No slack for that at all. :-( And if they kill the Adventurers....
  12. I know how that goes. I have exactly the same issue. I have lots of sets, and miscellaneous parts, that I bought because the price was good on 75% off sales etc, and figured I would use them for parts in some MOC in the future, but somehow never did. It's too easy to just click and buy something, and too hard to find the time and state of mind to be able to build somethinh worthwhile. I look at them now and wonder whether I should sell them, especially my Mindstorms stuff. But so far I have not been able to bring myself to do so. I guess I have to reach more of a crisis point with storage.
  13. I contacted the seller, and he was willing to ship to me, so I tried for both of them. Didn't get the Imperial Post....I wonder if I had bid 5 bucks more.... that always is the case with eBay. You never know how high the guy who beat you out was willing to go. Still, I already had this set MIB, so I didn't want to go crazy for a second one. Got the 6086 MISB, though! Pretty happy about the price there. Thanks for the heads up JP - I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.
  14. my prediction 120$. I'd bid if they shipped to Canada...
  15. This is an outrage! I was quoted out of context! I love Indiana Jones! Who are these so called "adventurers?". What I said, I believe, was that it was incredibly stupid that Lego had not thought of doing any Indian Jones movies in the past, and no lame "Adventurer" character could compare to the one and only Harrison Ford! I have proof of what I said. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...t=0#entry160356 Where did you people go to journalism school? ..... <looks up his lawyer in the phonebook> ;-) :-P Kidding. Good newscast, BTW
  16. Yep. I loaded up on some food items a few days ago. They used to be very expensive to get....
  17. Actually, I would think that it is almost exclusively fanatical AFOLs buying this set. There is NO WAY any kid under 12 would even be interested in this, and normal teenagers do not sit at home building this kind of stuff. Neither of these two groups have the money to get this type of set, and if they did, it would not be spent on Lego. I believe that this group of sets will demonstrate to TLC that AFOLs are a more lucratic potential marked for Lego than had been thought previously.
  18. I'm with you. For an AFOL, this is the future of Lego City: modularity, detail, clever building techniques, interesting colour mixes. This is what AFOLs have been posting on Brickshelf for years, and clamouring for on the forums for just as long.
  19. Hi Dunamis. I am in Canada, and have received hundreds of things from the US by mail (Lego, knives, toys,DVDs, books, furniture), from envelopes to boxes weighing 20 pounds. Avoid UPS like the plague. Horrible service on the receiving end, and customs charges are incredible from them. My policy as a buyer is to not do business with anyone who uses UPS as their only shipping option. FEDEX is better. Frankly, at least from the US to Canada, US postal service is best. Reliable, least expensive, least hassle. Are you getting into the Lego selling game, having filled up all you house with Lego?
  20. Maybe I overlooked something in this auction, and at the risk of sounding like a snark, I would not call 66 kg of parts and a bunch of instructions, with no boxes, a "collection". There is almost nothing "collectable" there. It is an impressively organized and photographed array of Lego parts, but bigger lots than this have routinely sold on eBay. Most of the sets are old, and however well maintained they may have been, Lego bricks do age. Bricks from the 1970's are often brittle and discoloured, and much as I love solid studs I would much rather have bricks from the 1990's for building. A single MISB 6080 would easily sell for more than this entire lot. Three rare Lego keychains could possibly sell for more than this entire lot. But then, those items are "collectable" in the true sense of the word. /turns off snark mode. Cheers. G
  21. Sorry to revive an ancient thread.. any word on when these cute little sets will be available? Are they promos only?
  22. From my experience seeing my kids play - a story line is extremely helpful to initiate and maintain interest in a line. Once a certain depth of interest is reached, the kids go beyond it. But you need that initial spark, especially because kids these days do not just sit on the floor for 3 hours playing with Lego... they have too much else on the go. If it doesn't capture them within 10-20 minutes, forget it. The story line is key to the continuing success of Bionicle, and the apparently emerging success of Exo Force. I keep coming back to this... that's why Lego needs the Adventurers! Built in story line, characters, awesome web site at the time. I don't know just how poorly the last line did, but designs can always be improved.
  23. This just seems like the kiss of death for the Adventurers. I had never really believed that they would be gone forever. Now, I'm starting to think so.
  24. It's the highest so far. Let's keep a running tab... Frankly, if there are 10,000 of these out and about, I don't think they will go much higher than this. We should make a pool... on the averaged cost of the two most expensive ones sold on eBay, excluding any ones with special offers, free shiping, etc etc,
  25. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Limited-Edition-Me...1QQcmdZViewItem About 5 of these have been on eBay in the last few days... I wonder what the highest price will be?
