  1. I'm a studless snob of sorts - I can't hardly stand to look at studded beams now that we have studless. I do like studded beams in certain applications but only when they are covered up with tiles!
  2. I would guess that cost savings was not the driving force, but rather a way for Technic to further separate itself from standard bricks and open up new possibilities with the new type of building. Cheaper beams was a nice by-product for them however.
  3. I don't mind a few studded beams in critical spots but prefer mostly studless. On the limited number of studded beams I do use, I usually cover the studs with tiles.
  4. Wow! That looks pretty nice! I'll definitely take a close look at that version when the time comes. Thanks for posting that and for all your contributions to this forum as well.
  5. I wouldn't mind a studless adaptation of the 8868. That is on my list of studless models to consider. I'm currently working on a studless 8459/8464/8439 Pneumatic Front Loader.
  6. Thanks! They are from the 8110 Unimog U400.
  7. Incredible job you have done with this helicopter! I love all of the details and functions.
  8. Wow! Amazing work. That thing is massive! I'm a big fan of your work and I'm still drooling over your tractor. I will probably end up building it at some point.
  9. That's one BIG project! I like the design and the color scheme except for maybe the red bits. The tipper might look nice with some blue trim on it a la 8052 to tie it back to the rest of the model better. Looks like you're having fun with it!
  10. I was pretty excited to get the 8292 Cherry Picker as well. It was on my list when I got back into Lego Technic a couple of years ago. I also have the 8052 and 8109, and want the 8071 but will wait on that one. I really like the scale of those models and recently picked up an 8273 from 2007 also. When I first got back into Lego, there were three must-haves that I went after - 8421, 8275 and 8455. They were also the most expensive, but once I decided to make the commitment I couldn't get them soon enough.
  11. Count me in for a motorized Flagship Back-Hoe!
  12. Very nice! I have around the same amount and among them are those three. I received set 8063 as a gift and that got me back into Lego Technic after many years away. It has been fun so far catching up!
  13. That sounds familiar. What are the highlights of your collection so far?
  14. Very nice model - love the assymmetry of the two arms and the combination of LA and pneumatics. I like the combiation of colors and panels, and the lights are a nice touch as well. Very cool enrty!
  15. Looks great! I like the color scheme as well - it reminds me of the old Expert Builder sets (853, etc) where they have the components broken down into primary colors.
  16. I just finished with the pneumatic hoses but still need to take some more pictures of the finished product. They turned out nice and neat. Thanks again for all of those precious yellow panels! Thanks for the comments. That's correct on the 6x6 - 6 wheels and all are driven per the original design. The wheel arches took a while to get right although they look simple enough. I'll add some updated images to my Brickshelf folder as soon as I get some time.
  17. Ding ding, we have a winner! Pretty impressive looking entry.
  18. That's amazing. Love the model and the video! Very nicely done!
  19. Thanks for all of the comments. I will probably attach the hoses this weekend and then I'll take some better photos. I want to replace one of the brackets that holds the hoses that cross underneath the trailer also. I have to disassemble part of the trailer to get to it so that will take some time. I want the hoses to be routed as neatly as possible. I'm not sure if there is a way to improve the model in this area but want to investigate it first. I may experiment with some black pieces in place of the yellow for the mirror brackets and the top of the cab to make it look more interesting. I still need to replace the (now) yellow mirror surfaces with a 2x4 bley smooth tiles when I receive them. This is a model I will probably revisit after I have built a few more official sets and have picked up some more techiniques and ideas. I'm still trying to get used to studless construction so it might be a while before my first true MOC. Edit - I changed the name to 'Han' in the original post but couldn't edit the subject line. I just now realized I had it wrong.
  20. I'm here, and happy to be back into Lego Technic after a long time away. I don't know any serious Lego people, much less Technic people. It's really nice to have a place to share and I look forward to becoming more involved. Are there any other popular Technic forums to browse? I have been over to setechnic a few times but that's about it.
  21. How did you like the 8273? That is one I'm still considering. It got good reviews on Brickset and seems like a nice set. I'll either pick one up if I can find a decent price or piece one together.
  22. Here is a Hauler I have been working on recently. It is a studless version of the Hauler designed by Han. I still need to attach the pneumatic hoses and go back over a few details I'm not completely satisfied with. I have wanted to build this model since I first saw it. I really like the Technic aesthetic so it had to be studless. The thing I like most about the Technic look is that surfaces are less literal and more implied with careful panel placement. You get to see the skeleton and the skin simultaneously when done well. For inspiration on the look of the altered portions, I looked at several Lego sets including the 8264, 8265 and 8069. The shape of the upper cab is from 8264 and 8069 and the grille and fenders are taken from the 8265 for the most part. The mechanicals are unchanged from the original as they work fantastic. I will probably switch to the RC with adjustable speed control that is recommended. Special thanks to Han for such a great design and for making the instructions available. Here is the model so far: Here is my Brickshelf folder with more images: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=500080 Thanks for looking!
  23. It looks great in yellow! I was thinking maybe all orange for one.
