  1. Nice MOC. I think the suspension is called leaf-spring or something, but your idea is much better I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of this.
  2. You generally shouldn't leave your batteries in the box when you're not using the model. They will not be able to uphold the voltage, and possibly corrode. I checked an old battery box of mine, and it was covered in corrosion:S

  6. 3054 was released in 1998, contains 30 pieces, and features rubber band suspension. What else can you want from a motorcycle? It was bundled for free with some Kelloggs product in the UK only. I paid about 5$ on Bricklink for it. Although this bike is from the Technic line, the instructions says SYSTEM on it. The instructions has two pages, and folds out from a tiny brochure. It has the same size as the 2544 Shell promotional set. It is one out of 3 sets which have the "Liftarm 1 x 9 bent (6-4)" in green color. The other ones being 8479 and 8446 Well, on with the build. The rubber band is placed between the two bushes at the 4 axle, and stretched over the "pivot". When the rear axle is pushed upwards, it acts as a suspension. Lastly, adding the windshield made of thin liftarms. The 3L pin acts as handlebars. Finished. Ccomparison with 1257 and 2544. I think this is a great set for a Kellogg's bonus, but from a technical perspective it's not much. If you're a collector like me I would buy it for anything less than 5$. Questions? Comments?   7. I paid about 130 Euro for my 8455 in great condition with box. About the same as the 9397 Log loader.

  9. Thanks, Its fun to do also. I always read other reviews before I buy certain sets, so it makes sense that more people will do the same. EuroBricks reviews of Technic sets are also a rariety, something I'd like to change.
  10. 8284 Tractor was released in 2006, the year before 8274 which uses the same color theme. It features front wheel steering via a HOG, front wheel pendular suspension, inline 4-cylinder engine driven by rear differential, and tilting and spinning the cutter attachment in the back. The mower can be disconnected from the drive axle by a lever located in the driver's cabin. According to Brickset, it was 60$ on release. I paid 75$ for mine. Not bad for 872 pieces. This set uses 54120 tires, which was also used in this years 4 x 4 crawler, 8118, 8297, and 8063. Comparison tires from 8466 and 8081. Despite it's overall greenish look, only 17 of its 872 pieces are green. A total of 38 gears are included in this set, if you count the differential. The build stats with the tractor, and the cutter has its own separate instructions. The instruction booklets are 63 and 38 pages long, and contains 62 steps for the tractor, and 15 for the cutter. The overall parts per step equals 14 for this set. Sub-assemblies are not counted. We start off with the bottom of the chassis. The driving ring engages the cutter when the driveshaft turns. The second axle is for the PTO. A 12T db gear and a worm gear will lift the PTO when its not in use. You can see here how the worm gear will turn the Crown gear with the PTO axle. The changeover catch it placed on some thin liftarms, and an axle connector acts as a handle. The second axle for the HOG is placed with a meshing knobwheel. This 16T clutched wheel provides input to the fake engine without interfering with the steering axle. The seats uses Bionicle tooths to make a nice curved shape. The dash features a instruments sticker. The differential sits on the rear axle. You can see how it will drive the set of 12T DB gears. A set of wheelhubs are placed on each side, and locked with some liftarms. The engine is an inline 4-cylinder, constructed on standard Technic principle. A 16T gear on the input axle gives a 2:1 final drive ratio. It's placed in the front, and locked with a 3 axle. The front axle has rack and pinion steering, and pendular suspension. This rack is placed on top. Finished. The second 8T gear isn't really necessary, because the steering angle is already limited by the 3L pins with bush. The front grille is made of thin liftarms. Front lights and hood in place. The entry steps. The same for the opposite side. The HOG gear setup uses a 20T DB gear. Some flex axles suggests the windshield. The cocpit starts taking shape. Rear mudguards Rear floodlights in place. Note the 10 axle protruding from the universal joint. That is the source of power to the rear attachment. Rear lights next. And the exhaust pipe. Front mudguard. The mudguards are made the same way as 8295, meaning they follow the wheels as they turn. The warning light on top doesn't serve as a HOG in this model. Rear wheelwells are made of flex axles. Next the front weights (thanks hoeij), made of thin liftarms. The rear attachment is initially driven by a 24T gear which axle is connected to The PTO of the tractor. This meshes with another 24T gear, which is connected to a 20T bevel gear. One of these goes on each side. You can see how the 12T bevel gears meshes with the 20T bevel gear. This forces them to spin in opposite directions, at a ratio of 1:2.5 of the input axle. That fits with the red axle connector at the bottom. Lastly, the spinner blades are made of Umbrella Stands and thin liftarms. Finished! Lifting cutter: Engine is driven by the rear differential: The gear selector which turns the cutter on or off. If you look closely, you can spot the driving ring underneath it. Size comparison with 8274, 8049, 8281. Overall I think this is a great set. It's big size, combined with the genuine feel of the functions makes it, in my opinion, the best Technic tractor there is. The steering is very smooth, and the engine moves at a reasonable rate. Also, the green/white color scheme makes it stand out in my collection. The only cons I see about this set is the absence of a working steering wheel, and some form of doors for the cabin. Thanks for reading/watching.   11. Looks like you've thought this really thorough through before you started it even. Fantastic MOC, and it works so well also. It really doesn't matter how much time you spend creating something as good as this. Good work on the CADs, it must have taken you forever just to add the parts
  12. Nice truck, I like how the front grill is made. On the underside shot, do the turntables spin freely as a pendular setup. And is that red flex axles I see for the suspension? Additionally, you should try setting your camera to remote trigger or delayed exposure. This removes any motion blur effect on the final images. Thanks for showing your work, I'm sure it's appreciated by a lot of users.
  13. I've been collecting for 2 years, and have accumulated 99 sets. I bought the two aluminum racks before I discovered BrickLink, and thought I was close to having a complete collection. I used to go to TRU and point at what I had and so on. Little did I know there was an entire world of sets out there waiting for me. Oh, and some boxes. I can't figure out what to do with them. Ten more sets are in build queue/missing parts right now, bringing the total up to 109. Maybe some day I'll have them all.

  15. 8467 Future Car was released in 1997, contains 419 pieces, and features full suspension, two-point steering and a 4-cylinder engine powered by a rear differential. It was $50 on release, and I paid about $35 for mine. This set comes with a set of 2995 tires, which are the same ones seen in 8858, 8459, 8439, 8465, and 8829. This set is the only one to have a red engine crankshaft center piece, and rust colored piston and crankshaft pieces. The steering uses HOG via a flex cable system. Also, one of the first to have the trans cylinder element. We start off with the basic frame. To attach the wheelhubs, Long towball plates are used. A long axle with flex parts controls the steering, and leads to the HOG. The leftermost 12T bevel gear will lead to the steering wheel, and the right to the HOG. FInally, the flex system parts is placed on the front end, and attached to the crankshaft piece with a bush. The rear end of the car is made on its own, before it's placed on the back of the chassis. The HOG gear is placed on the top. A yellow thin liftarm 5 secured the steering rack, and a "Steering Arm Small" is fastened on each side. Tis axle will connect the differential to the engine in the next step. It holds a 16T and a 24T crown gear, giving a final drive ratio of 1: 1,5. The steering wheel is connected to the HOG, and the dashboard is comprised of white thin liftarms. The top of the mullion holds some yellow pin connectors which will be used to attach the engine. The rear differential sits on a double-bent liftarm, which connects to a shock absorber. A series of 16T gears then leads it to the main driveshaft, and another DB beam fixes it in place. Both axles and shock absorbers in place. The 8T gear serves no purpose. Some reinforcing liftarms on the sides. Now some seats. There are some very nice looking seats in this set. So nice in fact, that they resemble the seats of 8448 and 8880. Placed on the chassis: Now for the engine. A 4-cylinder V for this model. The engine compartment is made old-style with bricks. After the engine is placed, the rear body is made as a separate structure. The flex axles makes some nice curves here. The same goes for the windshield. Finished. Doors opened: And Bonnet: Comparison with the 8829 and 8048. I think this is a great looking set, although it's somewhat odd to have the same tire dimensions in front and back. It's more sturdy than the 8048, and actually managed to fall off my building table without anything breaking . The red cylinder heads are a nice touch, as well as the overall blue colour scheme.   16. UPDATE: I made a small montage of the set using Technic figs. This sure has lots of playing features. It's enough to keep 14 Technic figs occupied. The engine has broken down so they can't lower the boom

  18. Very nice indeed. What do you use for lights? Rubber wheels? The fork is also connected in a new way for me. With a Long pin with pin hole? I like how the chain spins on a wheel, rather than just hanging there.
  19. I've not replaced the string. If I apply a lot of force to the string, it winds up well enough. I saw another thread for buying bead string to use with lego contraptions, but I didn't buy any. Maybe in the future I will change the string on all my sets.
  20. 8419 Excavator was released in 2005 and contains 289 pieces. Features are slewing superstructure, raising and grabbing arm and moving threads. It cost 20$ upon release, and the average BL price is about the same in used condition. Interesting pieces include a large turntable, 4 Technic thread hubs , a mini Technic digger bucket, 2 Treads. The build starts off with the wheelbase, one wheel in each corner supports the threads. The other side mirrors the first. The two sides are then joined, and some liftarms tie the together. The turntable is placed on top. And then the threads. This rack is mounted at the rear of the turntable, to support the gears. It meshes with another 20T bevel gear at the end of a 3 axle with an UJ. The boom lifting mechanism is driven by a worm gear. And 8T gear is placed underneath it. It is then locked by thin liftarms. Placed on the base. The digging arm is then attached to the grey liftarms. A 24T gear is attached to the axle driving the boom lifting. An 16T gear is connected to the axle which powers the bucket tilting. A worm screw is combined with the 24T gear to slow down the boom movement. Lastly, a 20T DB gear is added to further reduce the bucket movement. The back end of the superstructure is comprised of axle connectors. Locked in place by some liftarms. Double-bent liftarms finishes the right side of the compartment. Next is the cabin. In place. Further extension of the arm. Lastly attaching bucket. Finished: Features: Raising and lowering arm and digger bucket, slewing of base. It's excactly the same as the 8047, but it does it in a different way. It is the only excavator that uses actual rubber threads rather than plastic ones that doesn't work. The low gearing for the boom and bucket makes this excavator able to lift something. The only con is that the 8T and worm screw combination has a lot of play. Comparison with 8043 and 8047. This has to be my favourite excavator. I really like the smooth bucket and arm movement, and the rubber threads are a nice bonus. Questions? Comments? Feel free to ask. Big pics @ Brickshelf.

  22. 8213 Spy runner was released in 1998, contains 98 pieces, and features opening canopy/wings and lifting wheels. It cost 10$ when it was released, I paid 8$ for mine without box. It has the same coloring theme as 8217 The Wasp and 8208 Custom Cruiser, suggesting they are in the same theme. Interesting pieces include some white flex axles and knobwheels, 2 rubber bands and 4 6578 tires. These 12L axles will support the wheels and "wing". The rear wheel base. A green Technic brick and some 4 axles locks the wheel support in place. Some white knobwheels and seat placed. Another set on knobsheels synchronizes the landing gear. The rear wing base is made of axles and thin liftarms. Some rubber bands keeps the wing in lowered or lifted position. Some white flex axles suggests the canopy. Lastly adding a thin liftarm to complete the rear wing. Finished. Pushing down the rear wing retracts the wheels and opens the canopy. Last page suggests playing scenes with the car.
