  1. Ah, the figures. I thought I had a nearly complete collection, but that was not the case. I thought the Technic figures were only the ones in the packs released in the 90's, but now I've scoured Bricklink to find the rest. My wallet is gonna suffer greatly for this.... Some pics...
  2. My 8466 currently looks like this, and the suspension is virtually non-functional. I bought it second-hand, but I've seen others mention this problem. It can either be that the springs are underdimensioned for the car, or that they have weared over time. To test this, I've decided to buy some new springs to tend to the problem. With these springs: The set originally contains 4 x "Technic, Shock Absorber 9.5L, Complete Assembly (Hard Spring)" (part no 2909c02), but I wanted to change it to four of these from the Unimog: "Technic, Shock Absorber 9.5L, Complete Assembly (Extra Hard Spring)" I've just ordered them yesterday, and will let you know as soon as they arrive with pics of the car. Here is some pics of the model per today: The main issue: Normal state of display: Front springs compressed, without any pressure applied: Front spring position (neutral) After a small bump: Rear spring position: After some pressure added, they return to this state: The chassis is lowered approximately three studs, and doesn't come back up. I'm hoping the new springs will fix this issue.
  3. Nice crane. I like the way the boom extends very fast. Is it powered directly from a m-motor, or do you use any gearing down between?
  4. Get the cheapest one first (The Claw Rig for me). They're very different, but the 8868 is more difficult to assemble, and sports more playability.
  5. Very nice model. Do you have any shots from different angles? EDIT: Oops, didn't mean to quote the whole thing

  8. Made some more models today and yesterday. Check them out. Spaceship destroyer Space fighter Space shuttle II Submarine Wraith
  9. I spent the weekend making some micro-scale models, and didn't find anywhere else to post. 10. can't get enough Technic

  11. That was the idea, Uwe makes no compromizes in his builds, although my personal opinion is that the 8258 is better.
  12. Now we build the crane, starting with a base placed on top of the turntable. First part of the log cage placed behind the crane base, along with a linear actuator. A 12 axle with a 12t bevel gear on top runs through a H-frame. Two yellow 15L beams supports the structure. This gear rack is placed on top of the linear actuator. A 7L axle with a bush runs through a "Gear 20 Tooth Bevel with Pin Hole" is keeping it in place. Extension of the crane arm with these pieces in step 144. A mini LA is used for the final crane movement. Now to create the Log grabber. Finished with stickers. The grabber uses the same principle as the 8110 Unimog with meshing 16T gears and bent liftarms. Now for the arm that controls the grabber. It uses the mini turntable, which consists of two elements. A 12T double-bevel gear controls it via a 5.5 axle. Completed crane arm. Attached to the truck. An 8T and a 24T gear are placed at the base of the crane to control the turning. The log compartment is made from single beams with liftarms. Adding the wheels. I'd wish for dual rear wheels like the 8285, but I guess I'll keep on dreaming. The log consists of 8 wheelrims, and two 12L axles. But there's only one. What a small forest this truck must have found. Some finished shots: Crane extended: Ready to drive: This truck looks great, but should have more logs. A polarity switch should be mandatory on all Technic models IMO. Stopping the crane at the center is a pain with the battery box switch. Comparison with the other Uwe Wabra (UW) trucks, 8285 Tow Truck and 8258 Crane Truck That's all. Please leave me some feedback if you think I should have done something differently.
  13. Adding some outrigger knobwheels and rear wheelwells. Battery box in place: And a frame for it, along with the exhaust pipes: Very nice: Two of these are bases for the outriggers. Placed on each side. Now to make the turntable base for the crane. Placed at the start of booklet 3, and locked in place by two 6 axles. Outriggers are made in the usual manner. Placed here: Some panels are placed behind them to hide away the PF motor.
  14. Adding HOG steering with the usual two knobwheels. Next adding an inline 4 cylinder engine, which uses the "Light Bluish Gray Technic, Axle Connector Hub with 3 Axles" as a fan. The cocpit rear frame is next. This horizontal beam with L-shaped ends is the base for the outriggers. Cocpit seats next. Here is the base for the hinged doors. And the doors themselves, with nice stickers with what I believe is a fake phone number. The roof; windows; mirrors; sunscreen and horns make up the rest of the cab. The hood is next. It's built upside down. Finished; Mounted on chassis;
  15. The next steps features the new "Black Technic, Liftarm Triangle Thin, Type II", but the instructions aren't updated to the last parts. Thus, this picture is provided in the instructions to show that it is interchangeable with the previous type: Added to the main structure along with a worm gear and some yellow half-bushes. The main base for the outriggers is finished. This black 20T DB gear later controls the outriggers. These two gear racks will control the movement of the crane. These are the gear racks for the cranes operation. Next is building the base for the outriggers. This adds strenght to the back end of the truck bed. You can see them both added to the superstructure here. Added a 11L beam and a 16T tooth gear at the end of booklet one.
  16. 9397 Logging truck review The box is about 1/3 filled with parts, and the instructions are packed in cardboard and plastic just like it should be along with the sticker sheet. This set contains 3 instruction books for the main model, the alternate has to be downloaded from the Lego website. The DSS (Dreaded Sticker Sheet) is enclosed in the cardboard also. It contains 20 stickers, which aren't numbered like in previous sets I've built. This set introduces four new parts, shown below. This is called "Technic, Liftarm Triangle Thin, Type II", and replaces the previous triangle liftarm. The new mini turntable, also featured in the mini excavator set. Another new part, the "Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular Double 4L" is introduced with this set. Lastly, this is called "Technic, Axle Connector Hub with 3 Axles". It's a Bionicle and Hero Factory part, first time used in the Technic line in this set. Some random shots of the outspread parts: The small parts; bushes and pins: Beams: Now on with the build, first it's the 2nd axle with a differential to drive the engine. Really micro steps in this set, this is step 9 of 155. Wheels fixed in place with an 11 axle and two grey "Liftarm 2 x 4 L-Shape Thick" Adding a driveshaft, and extending the chassis forward. These are added to support the front part of the frame: These make this: Placed in the front along with some more reinforcing beams: Now the base frame of the truck is finished. We've reached step 27 of 155: Steering mechanism added to the front: Front bumber added along with the HOG steering: You can see the bumper to the far left. A gear rack is placed on top of the driveshaft, tilted into place, and secured with a 3 axle. Adding the back of the cab is added, you get an idea of the size. Now for the interesting part; gearbox building. The PF motor is added in this section. Finished gearbox, now adding the stickered 9 beams. I found it easier to sticker them prior to mounting them on the chassis. 2 4axles with stop secures the changeover catches in place. Gearbox mounted on chassis. Zoom out:
  17. I have to convert the images, upload them to a webhost, organize them in folders there and come up with something clever to write. I'll leave it uploading till tomorrow, then I'll start in the evening. Hopefully I'll be finished by Thursday with the whole thing.
  18. I'm planning to have it finished by tomorrow, and if someone else is doing it at the same time, there is no use for me to do it.
  19. Just recieved this, and wanted to make a review of it. Pics of box and so on is coming during the day.
  20. Never seen that one before. It looks like the return-to-center steering part.

  22. Nice and clean design. It looks like the part number isn't too great either. It looks and works just like the real thing.
