Confirmed, picked up a few extra Temple of Light sets for $39. Also, Toys R Us is doing 50% off of Galaxy Squad sets, and you can get them now if you are a Rewards card member.
-
Hmm, I see some good sets discounted on the UK online shop, but nothing new in the US. Just some small items that have been on sale for a while now.
-
Nice! I'm tempted to get that Cargo Trian, but I also want to pick up a Mindstorms set. Not to mention I spent way too much during October's double VIP promo... Sigh. Lego is a hell of a drug.
-
Logged into my VIP account on the lego online store, and it shows that it's double VIP points again, today only. You can also get the 2nd holiday set if you spend $99, and it looks like there's free shipping on all orders, not just the normal offer of free shipping for orders over $75.

I got an email earlier today about special offers only available to VIPs tomorrow. It also said the offers are available in-store and online. So it seems that as long as you have a VIP account you can see whatever the offers are, without having to receive an invite. Don't they often do this when a new set comes out? For a week or so before the "official" release of a set, VIPs can purchase one. Unless the invite is for something else in addition to that? I'm not sure if I want to spend an hour or two driving down the store if I can get the same deal online.

I used these markers: http://www.joann.com/painters-paint-marker-silver-metallic/5775671.html#q=elmer's+painters&start=5 I tried one or two others before finding these, and they do the job pretty well.

Thanks for the kind words! For the hair, I used a brown paint marker, but I applied it with a brush. The paint came out very thin and wet, so I just rubbed the tip on a piece of of illustration board to make a little pool, then a small brush from there to the hair. Afterward, a little bit of drybrushing with black (also from a paint marker). The horns are indeed Brickwarriors, sprayed gold for an even look. Hand painting generally comes out too lumpy for Lego, except for these watery paint markers I found!

Everyone knows dwarf warriors are tough, sturdy, with beards as long as their arms, and twice as thick! But all the dwarf warriors seem to be men, so I threw a few parts together to make a female dwarf who could be equally as fierce. Dwarf_Maiden by The Gray Fox, on Flickr

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 13 Rumours and Discussion
jFox replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Wow, these parts are pretty cool (assuming they're legitimate). That space helmet especially! If the other figures turn out this well, I may get a box of the new series, and begin building my hot dog army! -
Wow, that set is pretty slick. There's a lot of cool stuff going on there: interesting mini-mech, great figures, cool main vehicle. I love the Tron-esque style of the Agents vehicles, they feel very futuristic. The color scheme is nice too.
-
The first one you pictured and the last one look like they might be worthwhile purchases due to the color selection. Hmm, on second thought, maybe the the others as well, as it looks like they're starting to include a larger variety of part types in them. Usually the "brick boxes" were just that: bricks. These look like they've got slopes, SNOT bricks, arches, etc. Any info on pricing and part counts?

A LEGO reality show... a good idea or a bad one?
jFox replied to XAxles's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It could be a really interesting show to watch, if they do it right. And by do it right, I mean focus on the interesting stuff, like the actual building process. There was a show recently on the Sci-Fi channel where people were competing for an internship at the Jim Henson Creature Shop. Once you got past the typical reality show BS, the actual creation of creatures, prosthetics, etc was fantastic. Unfortunately, being a reality show it was an uneven split where too much time is spent on interpersonal drama and conflict, rather than actually watching people make cool stuff. -
Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to Bob De Quatre for setting this up. This contest was a bit of a challenge, but a lot of fun building and seeing the great designs people came up with.

I'm not looking to sell any at this point, I'm really only looking for trades. Have you got a trade list I could look at?
-
Some new things for trade. Here's are some images of what I've got: http://imgur.com/a/dDCD6 Not pictured, I also have: 21010 Robie House - Complete with instructions, no box 31012 Family House NISB 8097 Slave I - Boba Fett only, no Bossk or Han Solo 7965 Millennium Falcon - Complete with instructions and figures, no box (will only trade for something hard to find-ish, because of the figures) 8039 Venator - Complete with instructions, no minifigures 31015 Emerald Express x3 NISB 10224 Town Hall NISB What I'm looking for: Figures: http://brickset.com/minifigs/wantedby-crazylikeame (Looking for multiple copies of pretty much any figure on here unless it's a licensed figure like Fifth Brother, Ahsoka, etc) Sets: http://brickset.com/sets/wantedby-crazylikeame Priorities: I'm really looking for the Ultra Agents figures on my wanted list. I'm building more space-related things lately, and looking for anything that would work in that setting. Other stuff: Wampa: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=wampa#T=S&O={"ss":"US","rpp":"100"} Hobbit Wargs: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=wargpb02c01#T=S&O={"ss":"US","rpp":"100"} http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=wargpb01c01#T=S&O={"ss":"US","rpp":"100"} http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=wargpb03c01#T=S&O={"ss":"US","rpp":"100"} Dinosaurs Indominus Rex Triceratops (http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=Tricera01#T=S&O={}) Gallimimus x2(http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=98166pb03#T=P&C=34) Dilophosaurus (http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=Dilo01#T=S&O={}) Open to offers, but mostly looking for stuff on the wanted list, or figures that fit into sci-fi settings (and, to a lesser extent, fantasy stuff--hence some of the LotR elves and dinosaurs).

Agreed. My girlfriend and I built it together, and when we opened up the box and saw the pile of small pieces she asked, "That's it?" Piece-by-piece it came together though, and the end result is totally worth it. Veynom, love that picture you linked! It is indeed very agile. For the Dress my Exo-Suit contest, I added a bit more wrist-flexibility for mine, but the overall shape is still the same: BD_Exo_Action by The Gray Fox, on Flickr

Create and Destroy (Microscale/Minifig scale crossover)
jFox replied to woofmcmoose's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Haha, very nice! I can imagine a scene like this playing out on the set of the original Godzilla movies. Crew members dutifully building the scene, the actor in the suit stomping around while they're trying to work. Well done, especially the train. -
Yes, it's the greebling that I was getting at. Some may not care for that in a set, or it may not make a set more attractive to them, but for me it was a major selling point. If that sort of thing doesn't matter much to you, it may not a worthwhile purchase for you.
-
That phoenix flyer is a must-buy for me! I love the new fiery wings on the eagle and wolf characters, though I wish they had used those for the phoenix tribe instead of the plain orange wings. The tiger tank/base set looks pretty sweet too. Some of this wave and last (the first fire/ice wave) are a little "eh" for me, but some certainly stand out in terms of detail or minifigures. I've always love the Chima minifigures, even if some of the sets are a little weird for me.
-
I say it's definitely worth the price. When it first came out (and then sold out in about 48 hours), I was worried it would be sold out for good. I panicked, and bought on on eBay for $60 with shipping. After building it, I was so impressed with it that I bought two more as soon as they came back in stock. If you're more of a Town builder, it may not be as interesting to you. If you like space/sci-fi even a little, I would get it. A few reasons why I was really impressed with it: 1) The detail on it is something I've never seen in an official Lego set before. I've built a few Technic sets before, and some of the gear systems in there are pretty amazing, but the small details that make up the look of this set is just fantastic. Worth it due to this reason alone. All the detail is largely due to... 2) It was designed by a fan, and an obvious Classic Space enthusiast (check out the book Lego Space, co-written by the set's creator). 3) It comes with great minifigures, and a cute little turtle-bot.

Dress my Exo Suit Mini-challenge - Voting thread

I was looking at BrickLinking some older sets, and one part stood out: the Technic Rack Winder Axle, BrickLink part 200. The price on this little thing is crazy, but then I figured it's old, suppy and demand, etc. However, I noticed that there is also the Technic Rack Winder Complete Assembly, part 2426, containing that same gear, for a fraction of the cost. Average price for the complete assembly? Under a buck. Average price for the gear alone? Over six dollars! So my question is, what's the reason for the huge gap in price? I'm leaning toward just getting the complete assembly (which the set requires anyway), but I have no experience with this part before. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Dress my Exo Suit Mini-challenge - Entry thread
jFox replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
My entry for this contest, I bring you the Exo-Suit of Brick Daddy from the Space Police III theme. Not to be outdone by the Space Police and their pesky Classic Space friends, Brick Daddy has commissioned the finest Exo-Suit that money can buy! Sparing no expense, this deadly piece of machinery features wrist-mounted blasters, jump-jets for extra mobility, and a custom, shoulder-mounted cannon designed by Brick Daddy himself! The Plasma-Injected Multi-Phasic Cannon (or P.I.M.P. Cannon for short) can take down even the toughest Space Police exo-suits, robots, and cruisers. Because he feels it's important that everyone knows just who the richest crime lord is, Brick Daddy's suit is covered in gold, silver, and precious gems. He commissioned the galaxy's finest sculptors to create a control stick in the shape of a fish (you won't be frying up this fish stick!), and model of his own head (both in solid gold, of course). Why choose between form and function when you can have both? That seems like the one, thanks to both Rolli and Vincent!
