Heroica RPG - Quest#15: Hoisting Down the Jolly Roger
JimBee replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Frozen again... Hybros was getting irritated at his inability to fight. He would've especially liked to have acted this round since Christopher's shield would protect him.... OOC: Sandy, you're taking the lucky effect into account, right? I don't remember if you do this, but I showed the results of both dice in my quest for lucky characters. And, if Christopher's Sentinel position is protecting the party, and Ad-Hoh attacks me, what would happen? I've read the R&D thread. -

"Right. I'll drink my second round of Mead, Nostrum, and Smelling Salts." -
I don't think there should be time equivalents in-game. The seasons and time are different for everyone on EB, and quests take place over different periods of time. I think it's fine as it is.

Heroica RPG - Quest#15: Hoisting Down the Jolly Roger

Hybros unfreezes, and his scythe, in his continued swing, strikes the ground with a clang. The battle is over. "I sure would like that Bladerang, hehe... and we'd better continue down the hall." -
That would never work, though, because almost all of the characters are linked in some way. If De'kra yields Hybros and Hybros yields Eric, then Eric yields Guts, Guts yields Tarn... we'd have most of Heroica in one quest.

Dude, I love Nine Inch Nails. Probably one of my favorite groups ever. Have you listened to the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack? I recently watched Drive (loved it), and have been listening to this song a lot recently: Sounds kind of retro to me.

Heroica RPG - Quest#15: Hoisting Down the Jolly Roger

Hybros charges at the mutant, but is turned to stone when it uses its special skill. He freezes in place, scythe still raised. "Well this is no fun," he thinks to himself. "I'm sure they can handle the rest though, hehe..." -
Very nice. I don't know if you meant to do this but her expression seems sad to me, which is accurate to the film as far as I remember.

Might as well post my entry here... forgot about that.

Thanks guys. Which is why I think these need to be limited somehow, definitely. It was incredibly hard to balance battles with these. That was a big disappointment. On weekdays, literally you were logging off when I was logging on. Hm, can't say for sure. Now I think Namrrya needs to visit the training room.

Thanks! I tried to include more puzzles and decision making, such as when you could buy the telescope, the maze, and to decide whether or not to fight Atticus, but I realize this quest was heavily battle-based. Nope, the Sword of Decay is still in Alf's inventory and works the same way. Yay! Or, should be "I would hope so", a theater fanatic such as yourself. Thank you. Yes, I felt the quest was pretty "railroaded" at times... I will have to be sure to give the heroes more opportunity to make the decisions next time.

Very nice, AC. I am instantly reminded of playing the first LSW video game from this. The starfighter is a bit simplistic, but I'm glad you included it anyway.

With Quest 18 just about wrapped up, I will post my final comments here. First off, thanks to all of you who participated in the Quest and also to those who followed along. I really hope it was as much of an adventure for you all as it was for me. I had a great time QMing for the first time. I'm glad most of it worked out the way I had planned. I know I made quite a few errors when running the battles, but I hope to get better with that (and I have, I've become more familiarized with the rules and mechanics tenfold). One thing I would like to comment on is the decision of the party to not rely entirely on the Magic Compass. I designed the island maze so that the compass would point to a direct path to the final destination (Atticus). On this path were all of the battles (that took place on the island), and the loot was distributed throughout the rest of the maze as a reward for not using the compass. There was one missed chance of loot, which was 3x Smelling Salts that could have been dug up on the beach after the Sand Worm battle. Also, in case anyone didn't get this, Quest #18: The Storm was mostly a tribute to Shakespeare's The Tempest. Many story elements were borrowed from it, as well as the name. Fun fact. If any of the players or members who followed along would like to comment, please feel free to do so.

Nur takes out the vial of phoenix ashes and hands them to Patricia. Before he can do so, however, the ashes begin to glow, returning to embers and then to flames as the phoenix reappears, as a tiny, fuzzy baby bird, not much big than Nur's fist. This of course shatters the glass, but the flames do not scorch the Mage's hand. The baby phoenix, reborn from the ashes once more, looks up at Nur with round, black eyes. QM Note: A little something special for you, Jeb. You may do what you wish with the phoenix from here, for story purposes. At this point, the heroes may return to Heroica Hall. If you want to finish sorting out the gems here, that's fine. Thank you all so much for playing and for the continued participation throughout! I will add more in the QM's Lounge, where you can add criticisms, comments, etc. Thanks again!

"Oh, yes, I can most certainly get those gems out for you!" Patricia takes the Sword of Decay, unaware of its origin. She runs her hand up and down the blade. It glows white, and in a second four gems appear in hand. "Here you are." Party Leader, how will the loot be distributed? Aquamarine Ruby Emerald Sapphire
-
Patricia wears a confused expression on her face, first at the sword, then at the medallion, then at the fairy hovering at her shoulder. "I'm afraid I must attend to some family matters shortly, my dear Barbarian. Now if there's anything you need right now, please let me know. Otherwise I must be off." She whispers to the fairy, "If Alf seeks to train in the ways of magic, Copper Fox of Heroica Hall knows much and would surely be able to help."

Looks good, Legonator. I did like the double cape technique, though. This has to be one of my favorite lines in the game.
-
*Shrugs* "Pleased to meet your acquaintance, Mage. Unfortunately I cannot offer any sum of gold, but I assure you my magical talents are as formidable of any of the Ziegfrieds."
-
Hehe, thanks! Perhaps Nur should send her a letter when he gets back. Yes, the gold was taken out of your reward. 1,000 isn't evenly divisible by 6, anyway. Arw.

Thanks for your comments everyone! Yeah, I wish I had some macaroni parts or large quarter-column pieces in tan. What sorts of details on the columns would you have liked to have seen? Yes, he's dead/was shot. Why should he have fallen the other way, though? I don't imagine the shot would've propelled him backward. He could've just fallen to his knees... No, the scene was not meant to be accurate to every little detail (including the gun size...), the pictures were just added for decoration. I imagine they'd be in the palace. I imagine the picture of the female minifig to be a past queen.

"So you mean to tell me that you've failed?". He accepts the medallion. "Well, you got half the job done. It is unfortunate, but a deal is a deal and you've gotten rid of at least half of the plague, along with some of the Finegold brothers' followers, I suspect. Here's your 1,000 gold, we may call upon you again to finish the job. However, there will be consequences for your actions... Until next time, then," Phillip says with a look of disappointment. + 1,000 gold + Improved reputation with the House of Bonaparte The heroes then head back to the docks, where Whales and Thimlin are waiting. Nur hands over a pouch containing the 100 gold. "Thank ye kindly. If any o' ye ever need a lift somewheres... you just let me know," he says with a wink. "Thank you heroes." The party then departs, ready to return to the Hall. Before they can get through the fish market, though, a turbaned woman beckons to them from an ally way. "Please, heroes... if you'll just come inside for a moment... I must discuss an important matter with you. Concerning events that took place on that island yesterday... please, come inside." The heroes follow the woman into a wooden doorway in the ally, and head to the upper level. They're in a simple stone room, with a tall window letting the morning light in. "Thank you for coming. I am Patricia Ziegfried, I'm sure you've heard of our family. We've gotten word that recently you encountered and... defeated a member of our family, Atticus. I'm sure you know all the details by now, but we would like to thank you for eliminating him and his dark ways. Members of my family locked him away long ago, but with recent family events... I'm afraid the spell must have been broken. How fortunate that capable people such as yourselves were there to stop him before he escaped!" "Now listen, if there's anything any of you ever need, let me or one of my family members know. We'd be more than willing to lend our services to those who've helped us. Within reason, of course, heehee!".
